5 out of 5 stars Ray Lynch - Deep Breakfast.......2007-07-06

This is a very upbeat sound. My grandson, age 5, requests the Celestial Soda Pop piece, Number 1. I had this album before in a cassette form. It was lost. I heard the song at Disney World this May. We were in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground at the MGM Park. My son-in-law identified the piece. I knew then that I wanted the album again.

5 out of 5 stars Get it and enjoy it before it goes out of print. .......2007-06-16

I know I'm jumping in late in the discussion, but: "Deep Breakfast" (not to be confused with "Naked Lunch"), Tomita's "Snowflakes Are Dancing," and Wendy Carlos' "Switched on Bach" are the three best "electronic music" recordings EVER. What distinguishes "Deep Breakfast" from the others (as amazing as they are) is that the pieces on this CD are all Ray Lynch's own compositions. At once delicate, whimsical, thoughtful and thoroughly ORIGINAL, this is a virtuoso outing, hands down. Any serious collector of late 20th century non-jazz instrumental music isn't serious, in my opinion, unless he or she has "Deep Breakfast" in the collection.

I've listened to this CD countless times since I first discovered it in the local library in 1990, and it never fails to amaze, soothe and delight me with each listening. It's helped my children fall asleep when they were younger, bring smiles and peace in the car on trips, and a spring to the step while cooking dinner or, even, breakfast. (It's not what you'd play for a romantic candle light dinner, but with eggs Benedict and mimosas - DEFINITELY.) "Celestial Soda Pop" is an absolute classic; I could listen forever to "Falling in the Garden"; and I can't help but chuckle when I hear "Rhythm in the Pews." Ray hit a home run with this one, and gets my vote for the composers' Hall of Fame on this "swing" alone.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-06-15

I first heard this in the 90's - my high school science tearcher used to play it when we would have test or exams. This is wonderful music to really give you that relaxed feeling. I have now put it on my ipod and listen to it more then I do the rest of my songs. Great Artist.

5 out of 5 stars Brings me back.......2007-04-23

When I came across this title on Amazon, I listened to a sample of "Celestial Soda Pop" and it brought a tear to my eye (yeah, I'm a sentimental fool). I first heard this album when I was 16 and hearing it again after so many years have passed has reminded me of a simpler time in my life. I have been an amature artist ever since I was old enough to pick up a paintbrush and this album was constantly playing whenever I sketched or painted. The music, although completely electronic, is calming to the soul and soothes the heart. Whether you are a "new age" music fan or not, this album will make you feel wonderful.

This album I think is the best of his albums. In college, as a student of architecture, I would listen to this album over and over as I was creating designs or needed some inspiration. Celestial soda pop is my favorite. I even brought it into the delivery room to use as relaxation. I have recommended this album to everyone I know. You will find yourself humming the tune or tapping your pencil. I now play it in the car when stuck in DC traffic. I now don't mind being stuck in gridlock!

5 out of 5 stars If You Don't Think You Like "New Age Music", You Haven't Heard THIS!.......2006-12-14

I never considered myself a "fan" of New Age music until I discovered this album (...as well as Ray Lynch's other excellent releases.) But don't just take MY word for it, I'll give you an example of how good this album is:

I used to work at a record store that gave us a rather limited selection of what we could play "in-store", so we would play "defectives" from the "returns" bin. This was one of them. The first time I played it we sold three copies that evening. Need I say more?

5 out of 5 stars Caught my attention .......2007-05-30

It was when this first came out that I was at an art fair in South Minneapolis and this was playing at someone's booth. I asked who it was and what the title was. I promptly forgot. Not long after I heard it again, this time in a bookstore. I went to the counter to ask who it was and bought the Cassette. I am here to buy the CD so I can continue playing it. It is unique and beautiful, soothing and satisfying. I had never before and have never since sought out music like this, tracking down an artist because I was so caught by it. This will go in my collection with Andreas Vollenweider.

5 out of 5 stars One of the all-time great albums.......2005-03-30

I came across Deep Breakfast in its original LP form - the cover was pink then and yes I'm that old...All hyperbole aside, this is probably one of the best albums I've ever heard. Every track is just outstanding. I'd still like to know how he did the sound for the beginning to "Tiny Geometries."

If you haven't heard Ray Lynch, you owe it to yourself to listen. Music like this does not come along that often (unfortunately).

5 out of 5 stars I've missed this album!.......2005-03-10

I worked for a record company back in the 80s when this album came across my desk for a listen. I absolutely loved it the first time I ever heard it and kept a cassette version after the turntable died. Now, almost 20 years later, I was on hold at the insurance company and one of the tunes was playing. I immediately did a search and found the cd and ordered it. I can't wait -- I've missed Deep Breakfast!

5 out of 5 stars The First "New-Age" Gold Album.......2004-07-09

Before hearing this album, whenever I heard the term new-age, I thought of hippy-chicks (and Gypsies) smelling of Patchouli, buying crystals, and other like-minded "weird" stuff. I also assumed it was the Devil's music, because that's what my church taught me. So isn't it ironic that it was on a church outing almost 15 years ago that I first heard this album, shattering my misconceptions about new-age music.

Imagine a pop artist making classical music using 80's keyboards. Then take that mental-image and improve the quality of the music by a hundred-fold and you would have a very loose idea of what this album is like. This is not an album of whale calls, ocean tides or anything of that ilk. Right now scroll to the top of the page (or go to the first page of this listing) and listen to the sample of "Celestial Soda Pop"; if you are like me, you will be sold on this album in 10 seconds.

This album ranges from intelligent melody driven songs like "Celestial Soda Pop" and "Rhythm In The Pews" to the ambient outer-space sounding "The Oh Of Pleasure", which reminds me of Space Mountain at Disney World for some reason. I can listen to it while driving, falling asleep, reading...you name it, it is the perfect all-purpose listening album.

Maybe the best way to explain this album is like this: whenever I listen to "Deep Breakfast" I feel like I am transported to another world (to use a hackneyed phrase); it evokes feelings within me of far-off non-earthlike places, and that there is something out there bigger than I am (not in a physical or religious sense). So, basicaly, it's quite hard to describe, but it definitely hits an emotional center within me, because listening to this album always puts me in a mood. Not a good mood, not a bad mood, just a mood.

5 out of 5 stars Deeply moving, relaxing, awe inspiring!.......2004-04-23

I've been enjoying this album since 1990...I am now buying it on CD so that I can continue to enjoy it in my CD player(s)
