Album Description
From the co-creator of ENIGMA !
Highly acclaimed co-producer and guitarist of the multi-platinum group Enigma, Jens Gad brings you a spellbinding downtempo musical odyssey into the ancient mythology of his Scandinavian homeland. He is joined by the entrancing classical vocals of Helene Horlyck, to co-create a sophisticated and hypnotic chill-out journey through "The Nine Worlds" of archaic legend. At once stirring and calming, entertaining yet relaxing, Achillea achieves a vibrantly new and hauntingly beautiful musical vision that artfully blends evocative ambient New Age atmospheres with European dance club electronica. Achillea elegantly weaves the mystery of ancient myth - a world of seers, elves, and rune masters, into a lush, richly layered sonic landscape with velvety melodies of delicately bluesy guitar playing, slow sensuous grooves and silky smooth vocals sung in Latin and ancient Swedish. Both intimate and cinematic, this uniquely transcendent masterpiece is full of deep beauty and mysterious wonder that will nourish your soul.
"Achillea is the new project for producer/guitarist Jens Gad, co-producer, co-writer and one of the central creative forces behind popular group Enigma (alongside Michael Cretu). For his first solo project, Gad presents an atmospheric album of tunes themed after Danish myth. Enigma fans should definitely take note, as there are many common denominators between both groups: the same laid-back "Enigma-style" beats, Gregorian chant, whispery vocals and Gad's signature electric guitar. Achillea differs by offering an album steeped in dreamy ambience. This album slower paced and more ethereal, making it better suited for the mind than the dance floor. Adding to the appeal is the wispy, sensual vocals of singer Helene Horlyck, who sings on many of the tracks. Serene, slightly trippy and sure to bring on a bout of Enigma nostalgia, this is a must for worldbeat/chill music fans." - Music Design In Review
Customer Reviews:
Austerity and beauty all mesh on "The Nine Worlds"........2007-02-11
I was entranced by the debut release by artist Achillea. To my peasant surprise, I leanred that it is also a side project of Enigma's guitarist and in terms of side-projects, Achillea is almost as good as Enigma.
The debut album has a similar trademark to Enigma's album but the tracks stand out altogether with beauties like "Odin's Hill", "The Garden if Lisfaraine" and "Seeres Prophecy". Overall, "The Nine Worlds" is almost like a sequel to Enigma's third album from more than a decade ago.
This is highly recommended.
Ambience Spectacular!.......2006-11-27
I am a big fan of early Enigma and having found a first solo release by co-producer of Enigma's Jens Gad, I decided to purchase this release from Amazon.com. Jens is a superb handler of the guitar and it was a pleasure to hear his contributions on Enigma especially on 'Cross Of Changes' and the song 'Turn Around'. But it is good and fitting to see his first solo album be released, and whilst there is alot of similarity with Enigma, he brings to his album a more reflective, softer ambient driven sound that is both spiritual and refreshing. It is a nice chill-out album.
'Achilles' provides sweet and sensual beats with gregorian chants, soft guitar rifts, and a ethno-flavoured landscape. It should be noted that both Jens and his singer Helene are danish and this album is fashioned after numerous Danish folklore. Therefore you expect Danish lyrics and you do get a mixture of Latin and Danish with some English mixed in. All in all the mix is beautifully orchestrated and well-done.
The 12 tracks on this albums offers the listener pure music bliss, and it will take you on a journey that is much needed and is soul nourishing. There is no need to go through each track. This album will mean different things to all people who listen to it. Open your mind, have a open opinion and enjoy. I have and still do.
Pretty nice music, a little bit short of Enigma........2006-11-22
It's quite nice, althought definitely not an Enigma, the female voice is beautiful, but quite monotonous all across most of the songs. Still a good addition to one's New Age sound collection.
If you liked Enigma's "Cross of Changes"..........2006-11-14
Only now that I've heard The Nine Worlds do I appreciate how significant Jens Gad's influence was on the sound of Cross of Changes-era Enigma. The guitar style from that album's "I Love You, I'll Kill You" permeates, but never dominates this album, and I love it. The synth-based writing and arrangement styles are familiar as well. The title track, "The Nine Worlds," is something of a sonic "missing link" between the two albums, with a touch of chant, tablas, and a guitar sound one step closer to "I Love You, I'll Kill You" than the rest of this album.
The first Achillea song I heard was "Cape Porcupine". It remains my favorite song from the album, and is representative of what you'll hear throughout The Nine Worlds. Helene Horlyck's vocal stylings are featured on over half of the album's tracks, and she shares writing credits on those. Her high end is somewhat breathy, and has a piercing edge that frustrates my appreciation of her contributions, but the lower end of her range is beautifully smooth. "Othila - The Rune Masters" is a welcome exception, which I can only attribute to its guest writer/producer, John Tonks.
The Nine Worlds is a great listen for a bit, but there isn't enough variety to make it a really great album. I'm perfectly happy to listen to the whole thing passively, but when I'm listening actively, I typically only get through the first five or six songs ("Odin's Hill" is a highlight I never skip) before changing CDs. I would expect your affinity for The Cross of Changes to be a good indicator of how much you'll like The Nine Worlds.
Austere Ethereal Beauty.......2006-08-30
This album needs a few listens to allow its true beauty to unfold.
If you are after the lush percussive sensory smorgasboard of Enigma , you will be disappointed.
Put aside your preconceptions and open your mind to the pure spare instrumental arrangements accompanied beautifully by Helene Horlyks sublime ethereal vocals . Everything is pared back to a delightful minimalism that sometimes sounds so spacious that the songs seem otherworldly.
Definitely a match to the other great works of Delerium, Enigma , Amethystium etc

Buddha Lounge Vol 4.......2007-01-15
Good chill tracks. I have all the other Buddha lounge CDs as well as Arabic Lounge, whe something works stick with it. Ilike this CD for warm up, Yoga, Pilates, stretching. Also good to chill to very calming rythems.
Chillin' With The Buddha.......2006-10-16
This is an interesting one, that is sort of outside my normal frame of reference. My girlfriend and I were in a "new-agey" store while on a road trip, and we were both sort of intrigued in the music that was playing, which turned out to be this album. I would consider this disc a combination of two genres of music which I am actually rather unfamiliar with-techno and world music. It actually comes together quite well; most of the selections on this compilation are somewhat obscure(to me, anyway) european trance or house DJs (again, I'm going to have to cite unfamiliarity with the current "hip" slang on this subject(*snicker*)which incorporate world music and chanting (in Arabic?) into undeniably modern drum beats and synth programming. There is also a fair amount of briefly-phrased but very melodic electric guitar reminiscent of Buckethead's "Electric Tears" or "Colma" albums...quite a soothing combination, although I could have done without one track, which is sung in French. Excellent music for just relaxing with friends or a glass of wine.
Keep it up Gordon Brothers, your Buddha series is perfect!.......2006-03-09
I was so pleased to see this top compilation series continue with even more great selections. Helen Horlyck's atmospheric vocals and J. Gad of Enigma fame on their track Cape Porcupine, is a great way to introduce this excellent collection of mood music. TYA shares an exotic atmosphere on Why. One And Twain by Ginkgo Garden is spatial and measured as Mueller-Key adds a melodic story. Touche' by TAU adds an inspired French groove. Samah livens up the grouping with Kilada's Arabic/Afro beat & vocals. Bhajya Sahita by Hands Upon the Black Earth has gentle vocals by Renee Petry along with a light-hearted beat by Bobby Cochran. The Gordon Brothers added one of my favorite tracks of theirs, with a club-remix of Empowered, giving a North American contemporary beat; as well with Descent to the Lowerworld, where the brothers always take me on a rewarding venture into deep Shamanic landscapes. Mangoville by David Gordon brings a gentle and instrumental track, which lends a joyful, lazy summer-like feel. With Northern Lights by Stella Maris, this obviously multi-talented group demonstrates their special brand of mystery-pop in both their vocals and melodies. The entrancing American group, the Moontrane Conductors, brings a wide multiplicity of soothing sounds with their In for the Night. Jaya Lakshmi & Deva Priyo hook up to weave together a Sanskrit chant into a rhythmic sway with a contemporary reward in Hamana Nale. And last but not least, Abraham Schenk wields a way among the electric in Sky Walk, which graces the end of this entrancing and soothing album. All together, this album has provided me with many soothing hours of aural enjoyment, and served as easy background music, when I have entertained friends. Keep it up Gordon Brothers, your Buddha series is perfect!
World Class Chill-out.......2006-03-06
Each Buddha-Lounge just keeps getting better. While I love them all, number four is by far my fav! It opens with a track from ACHILLEA which is the new project from Jens Gad, co-producer and guitarist from ENIGMA, then continues with fantastic tracks from many top European artists such as Tya, Stella Maris and gems from underground US beatmasters such as The Moontrane Conductors and Hands Upon Black Earth plus world artists such as renowned Egyptian vocalist Nassar Kilada. The level of quality on this set is among the highest out there. I love putting this on for late night rendezvous!

not sure what this volume 4 is trying to achieve, but me thinks that if you take all 4 volumes and actually pick through the songs you might salvage one decent record...ughhhhh listen at your own risk!

Wonderful..........2006-08-05
I really don't know how to review this... but this album invokes my mind to produce vivid images for 44 minutes straight. It really is a mesmerising and memorable experience. One of my all-time favourite albums.
An interesting story..........2006-04-17
This album is the reason why I've held on to my cassette deck all these years. Why, you ask? Because, a long time ago, I recorded the several tracks from this album onto cassette from the FM radio. This music was of atmospheric slide guitars, eternal campfire sounds, train sidings, and Elvis on the radio. The DJ never said who it was and I subsequently never discovered who made this music. I figured I would never find out. Nonetheless, I loved the way this music made me feel. So, I held onto the cassette and my cassette deck so I could listen to this once a year or so. Last night, on a long drive, I got thinking about this music and figured I could Google "Elvis+electronic". Low and behold, the KLF popped up, and my long-time mystery came to an end. I have always loved where this album took my soul. It's ethereal and calming and brings me to a different time. I guess you can say my tape deck has no use anymore as a CD is now ordered and on the way, but that's fine. Them cassettes sucked anyway.
Something different.......2005-12-04
Okay. Slow music often doesn't appeal to me. But as someone who sometimes finds himself on the open road at night, there is just something about this album that appeals to me. Perhaps it is the strange combination of Americana sound clips with a little Euro mystique, courtesy of the KLF. Perhaps it is that feeling of being simultaneously at peace and excited in a strange universe that the KLF seems to convey to me (much like being on the open road at night). Or maybe it is something different altogether. Needless to say, I just can't walk into a truck stop without thinking of this album. But as to whether you will like it, you will just have to give it a listen. It is not really much like their dance-oriented 'White Room' (another GREAT CD). So you really can't base your decision to buy it on this. You just have to hear for yourself.
What a Trip.......2004-11-05
I agree with the great on drugs, but also when winding down from an all night clubbing session in nyc and then driving home on the dark highway its nice to put this on and just wind down and relax. a definately amazing album.
GREAT.......2004-11-04
Great with drugs, and quite nice to fall asleep to. Kinda cool to have in the background after you've come home from a club and are too wired up to sleep and don't want to listen to anymore club music. Or if you just need to ( in the words of a good friend of mine ) "Chill the *#@& OUT !"

Customer Reviews:
Lovely mix of world beat and electronica.......2005-10-16
This album is a mixture of world beat including asian, indian and middle eastern rhythms and melodies, with an electronica feel. It is in the same vein, but softer than Dum Dum Project's mix of indian chants. I highly recommend it for meditation or yoga, but also just to relax while studying for a test or having to deal with any stressor. It is not sticky sweet, or cloyingly annoy as something like Enya (not all songs, but some) can be...You won't go use this for aerobics or running, so if you are looking for more up beat electronica with world sounds you should try the new Reboot- Music for the next generation from Om Records. Benefits from both CDs also go to charity, so that's bonus. For what this music is intended, i.e. lounge type chill with a world beat influence, it does an excellent job, and I highly recommend it.
Dept. store Music.......2005-07-07
This album is horrid, not genuine and drones on and on. Sorry I bought it. Prozac on a CD. A new drink coaster.
News for Yoga Fit instructors.......2004-07-02
I used this CD for my Yoga class last week and loved it. I want to let you know that this is the same CD that Yoga Fit sells as Zen Cafe - Dessert. At least this way you can listen to a sample before buying. It flows wonderfully and is a joy to listen to. I highly recommened it for anyone wanting to chill or use it for teaching yoga classes.
Step Into The Lounge.......2004-06-19
Ancient wisdom, calmness, gentleness, dignity, but also exotic and mysterious magic, strange beauty - these are the notions which the Buddhist culture evokes in our minds - no matter what culture or religion we stem from ourselves.
All these qualities are dealt with in the 14 tracks from ambient artists from Europe and the US assembled on this compilation. The DJ has selected them with knowing care and exquisite taste. Here modern western sounds meet with themes and topics from ancient oriental and occidental cultures.
Gentle but subtly effective trance grooves, moody haunting melodies, and soothing harmonies relax the listener and nurture his mind, soul and body in a easy and entertaining way.
Buddha Lounge 3 is out of the world !.......2004-05-12
I just recently got my hands on the latest installment of Sequoia Groove's Buddha Lounge series and it is even better than the previous releases in the series. Absolutely phenomenal ! It has many of my favorite artists along side some fantastic new European artists that I continue to discover through this series. I particulary enjoyed and recommend Nasser Kilada's sensuous middle-eastern number "Tarnima" , Alcyone's up-beat "Velvet Sutra, and David Gordon's cool and fluid "Bodhisattvas" which is a real departure from what I have heard from him in the past.
Buddha-Lounge 3 takes me to an exotically hip, down-tempo place that is just our of this world !

Hook-laden chillout grooves.......2007-04-11
This two disc set has two distinct feels. The first falls neatly into the trance genre, and hits hard with tracks like Cosi Ti Amo, Meu Amor, Breeze, and La Plage. Other tracks on the disc manage pace and keep you immersed in an upbeat but relaxed feeling. Even in colder weather this disc's songs place me in Spring mindset and I can nearly feel the sun and cool breeze on my face.
The second disc feels more strongly electronic, but remains on the border of trance. Music therein falls somewhere between what you'd hear in a lounge and what you'd listen to relaxing at home.
I respectfully disagree with the other poor reviews.......2005-05-19
This CD, in my opinion, has 11 good songs out of 26. There is a lot of filler, so I can see why some people have given harsh reviews. However, how often do you get 11 good songs on a CD? Programming this while listening to it is recommended as some of these songs can get repetitive for sure. However, the good songs can be absolutely tremendous. Superb.
For example, on CD#2 songs #2,3,9 & 12 are unbelievably fantastic.
My advice: Buy the CD, listen to it a few times and mark the songs that you like with a pencil on the back of the CD so you can program it the next time you listen to it. If you program the top 10 songs, it can sound like the best CD you will buy this year.
Mixture of the Italian Labels.......2003-11-29
Water Music comes out with their dive into the Italian chill/cafe scene with this cd, hoping to pull in a few people that are (and maybe are not) fans of the various French series like Costes, Paris Lounge, Buddha Bar, Saint Germain Cafe, etc. etc. etc. This one came out I believe in the end of 2002.
To be honest, this isn't a bad release. It's two discs that feature the big names in Italian nu-jazz, heavily dominated by Irma and Idizioni/Ishtar (Schema). The artists included range from Banda Favela to Nicola Conte to S-Tone Inc., The Dining Rooms, Montefiori Cocktail, Duran Y Garcia and many many more. Some of these cuts are pretty good, actually - check out the cut "It's Samba", and anyone that's a Joao Gilberto/Caetano Veloso fan will recognize the "Aquelle Abraco" samples in that one which makes this sort of nostalgic. And in general you can get a feel of Brazilian bossa influences through the music.
All in all, I'd recommend this if you're unsure of Schema or Irma, but rest assured those two are terrific labels, IMO the best for this genre as is proven by their contributions to this compilation. If you do dig this, I would recommend checking out Schema's Break & Bossa series - particularly the 5th and 6th editions - those are stellar. Also check out Irma Group's Sister Bossa series OR Pyramide/Cafe Noir's "Bossa" compilations. Just be careful of duplication - Schema is pretty unique, but Irma and Cafe Noir I think are related, hence you will have some same tracks on the cd's.
You can do better.......2003-10-26
To echo another critic, this 2-CD set has a few good tracks, but mostly consists of bland electronica. On Disc 2, tracks 2, 3, 9, and 12 are exceptional - eloquently combining Brazilian/Latin beats and acid jazzy, electronic riffs. Those tracks almost justify the purchase of Disc 2 by itself. However, Disc 1 is pretty much completely unremarkable and it will collect dust on your shelf after one or two plays.
Might as well have been called "Cafe Montana".......2003-08-26
Other than a few tracks with Italian acid jazz-like lyrics (one in a dialect that was incomprehensible) it's mostly instrumental, and not that great. Hip Musak is what this really is. If you're looking for cool Italian music, save your money and get some San Remo Festival CDs (available at amazon.com). Customer Reviews:
Buddha Bar Specilist,.......2007-04-08
A beautiful collection of smooth rythms
a must for lounge
Check out opera to relax in this collection they have great stuff on cd
Hypnotic and soaring.......2007-04-03
As with all the other Budda Lounge CDs, this is an awesome mix of hypnotic and relaxing music. Unlike some music that's relaxing because it is lifeless, this is relaxing because it allows the mind and spirit to soar and drift in and out of reality. Beautiful.
not really "lounge" per se.......2007-03-15
This is a great new age, instrumental music disc but not really "lounge" per se according to the popular definition set by such things as Hotel Costes, Paris Lounge or Buddha Bar series.
FYI.
what was I thinking?.......2005-12-27
With so much instrumentation in global music, why laaaaaaaaay on that synthesizer? Track 10 was the only cut worth anything.
Not the Buddha Bar Series.......2005-03-03
Nice background music, but definitely NOT the Buddha Bar experience.

A Solid Down-tempo Mix.......2006-01-08
This is some relaxing stuff. It's like electronic chamber music. It's great for days alone at home, bathing, driving, walking on a treadmill. It's just good all-around background music. It makes everything chill.
Rushing sets the mood from the start with thick ambience. The second track is decent. Bent's Always is a classic. There is some serious funk in action on this track. When I hear it I feel like I should be dancing through Times Square on an 80's New Year's eve. Breathing Light is the best track on the album. This really is pure chillout. Give me a cd full of songs just like this and I'll be in heaven. Gloomy Sunday is a classic sweeper with a sweet aftertaste; great vocal track by Heather Nova. Opium 45 is fantastic. It's the trippiest track on the album. Tracks 14 and 15 are also pretty good. The stuff I didn't say much about is decent.
This is my first chillout purchase and I'm satisfied with it.
ALL THAT AND A BAG OF POTATO CHIPS.......2002-11-14
I first heard Pure Chill Out while chilling out at a major bookstore. Some of the songs, mainly, Always, by Bent, caught my attention. Then, other songs from this album popped up and then I was hooked. I left the store without buying an books, and I straight went home and logged on to Amazon.Com... This album has a great mix of really, mealow ambient songs and some very still-danceable songs too. You know, when you're sitting down, but you move side to side or up and down. I enjoy hip hop, jazz, and dance, and this is like an infusion of good beats, well-made melodies, and fast and slow songs. It also takes me to different cultures and heightens my imagination much like the album Moroccan Spirit. Get this album if you like mealow-dancey-true artist written music. (It's not techno.) Very good danceable tracks are Bent's "Always", and Fila Brazilla's "A Zed & @ L's". Other very commendable ambient, well written songs are "Stars", by Nightmare on Wax, "Opium" by Moodswings, "THe Orbiting Beatnik" by Julee Cruise, "Enchanted" by Delerium. The producers should have left "I Miss You" by Julia Messenger,"Gloomy Sunday" by Heather Nova in the cutting room floor. Buy this when you can. You'll listen to it over and over.
Easily live with or without it.......2002-11-11
Right, it's time to raise the bar on chill out music. Labels may proclaim some of these discs are designed for the casual listener, but packing the same names time and again reeks of a quick cash in. Moby, Bent, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Nightmares on Wax, Fila Brazillia, all tried and certifiable, or shall we say bankable.
As for the rest, expect the usual mix of slow beats and airy female vocals. Cleverly done at times, with Julie Cruise's whispering "The Orbiting Beatnik," though Afterlife leave the biggest impression on their mixture of chanteuse, faint sax with piano, and slow bongos on "Makes Me Feel." Heather Nova's sweeping "Gloomy Sunday" has the lifting orchestration and delivery plucked straight from a stage musical, a fresh idea rarely heard in dance.
On the downside, Julie Messenger's "I Miss You" is the typical sullen woman with piano accompaniment, Delerium's fey "Enchanted" struggles to mesh all it's new age sounds with girlie chanting, and Waldeck's "Aquarius" is little more than a cover curiosity.
Meaning, Pure Chill Out is relaxing and varied and bland enough to be one more of the chillout market releases you can easily live with or without this month, and it's a safe decision either way.

Product Description
Evolve's chilled out grooves and breaks are produced by Red. Their debut outing, Happy Hour In The Gene Pool is a delightful blend of lounge pop, subtle beats, found sound, and mellow jazz influences, a lounge lizard s idea of heaven on Earth. The overall vibe is predominantly mellow, and the arrangements ooze sophistication and depth. Singer Margo Reymundo features on two tracks contributing her distinctive raspy, Billy Holiday-esque jazzy vocal stylings to "Couldn't Be More Wrong" and "The Way Back", with rapper Tantrum providing the testosterone on "By Definition: Cool" and "Mice On The Ice". Happy Hour In The Gene Pool manages to stay focused and coherent throughout it s sixty plus minutes while providing enough diversity to maintain interest, and enough depth to sustain repeated listenings. Most of the tracks presented here are ripe for the plucking by nearly any of the hundreds of chill out mix albums being released. The album is equally enjoyable to chill out to whether on headphones, at a cocktail party or on a long drive. Happy Hour In The Gene Pool contains a little something for every electronica music fan, which, in this case, is a good thing.
Customer Reviews:
Chill out music at it's best.......2007-05-11
Excellent album and I'm happy to own it. In my humble opinion, the following three tracks are exceptional:
3 Couldn't be more wrong
4 By definition: Cool
10 Where where you (Sunday Afternoon)
Evolve seem to have been influenced by a wide range of musicians in the field of chill out, trip-hop and lounge music. "By definition: Cool" sometimes even reminds me of "Stereo MC's".
Apart from the above mentioned highlights, there's some smoother/quieter tracks.
I live in Zurich, Switzerland, and was unable to find this album in Europe, which is a bit of a shame.Happy Hour In The Gene Pool
Smoothjazz.com Review.......2007-01-16
And what a swanky, swirling, sophisticated happy hour it is! A mingling mélange of smooth grooves and chilled tracks from beginning to end. Evolve has a superb and intelligent recording here; one that makes even the most blasé music enthusiast sit up and take notice with its rich instrumentation and arrangements featuring killer drum programming and loops, trumpet, flugelhorn and keyboards, as well as brilliant lyrical notions and outstanding vocals from the sultry Margo Reymundo and intriguing nu-rap from Tantrum. The man behind the evolution of Evolve? Only the coolest Brit in California with a name to match, Red Broad. Red's work on HAPPY HOUR IN THE GENE POOL is deep and poignant, yet shallow enough to wade in with friends while sipping cocktails. Evolve is genre defining in my opinion; a standard by which other artists should measure their work and quality. In a time when the music industry requires life support, Evolve has just shot an injection of clever and unique into its veins and offers the consumer a reason to buy the entire project, not just a tune. More please! More music that appeals to the senses and packages itself in a stunning, shiny digipak that you never want to put down. SmoothLounge.com invites you to Evolve.~SANDY SHORE
