If you didn't get to know Chrisette Michele by way of Jay-Z (she was the one singing sparkling hooks on "Lost Ones") or Nas (she channeled Billie Holiday on "Can't Forget About You"), stop wasting valuable seconds. Though the hype on this pure-voiced, raunch-resistant songstress has her resuscitating a classic jazz sound that rarely infiltrates R&B--comparisons to Lady Day, Nina Simone, and Ella Fitzgerald are mounting--she's more her generation's answer to Erykah Badu: any notes she wraps her lips around come out fresh-sounding, and she adds to the effect with a built-in elegance that's irresistible to R&B and non-R&B fans alike. Hip-hoppers get a custom dose of Michele's magic on "Be O.K.," featuring the flabbergastingly prolific yet still likable Will.i.am, jazz sentimentalists will instantly succumb to "Like a Dream," and anybody with ears on his or her head will warm to the slinky slow jam that is "If I Have My Way." Michele's is a rare talent; count on this outstanding debut propelling her to stratospheric heights. --Tammy La Gorce
Album Description
I Am, her soulful debut album, is an artistic exploration that fuses 24-year old Chrisette Michele's diverse musical interests into a wonderland. "I realize that I'm new to the music world, but I've been preparing for this moment for long time," says the Long Island native. Even before signing a recording contract, Michele had performed on concert bills with more established artists like Kem, India.Arie, Angie Stone, and Lionel Richie. "India saw me singing at the Village Underground in New York City. She came backstage that first night and graciously offered me a gig as her opening act," says Michele. Working hard in the studio writing songs and recording demos, Michele finished an album's worth of material before even trying to get signed. "I've been creating songs since I was 12, so I knew I needed the right musical blend in order to stand out from the many other performers trying to get a deal." Though already a fan of gospel and classical, it wasn't until Michele was 17 that she also developed a passion for jazz. "When I was still in high school a teacher introduced me to jazz singer Astrud Gilberto, and afterwards my life was all about jazz," she remembers. With the release of I Am, Chrisette Michele will soon be sharing those musical dreams with the rest of the world.

A breath of fresh air for a failing music industry........2007-08-04
This girl is truly a musical virtuoso, she encompasses all genres of music in her first release and that is really rare in the music industry these days.
A Warm Welcome to Ms. Chrisette Michele!.......2007-08-03
Just got it last night -- great debut! Yes, her sound & style is much like Jill Scott & Erykah Badu, yet I think a more accurate description is a female version of John Legend. Again, a great debut!
PS: I look forward to more jazz genre selections in the future!
THIS IS IT!.......2007-08-02
THIS IS WHAT REAL SOUL MUSIC IS! Don't get me wrong, I like the Beyonces of the world, but I AM is what it is, a true testament to what soul music is! She is on par with Ms. Jill, Ms. Erykah, and Ms. Angie!
I truly value her passion and love for soul music. IF you have ANY taste in music this is the cd to get!
My FAVS: Is this the way love feels
Let's Rock
Good Girl
If I have my way
Best of Me
Shoot, all of them are my favs, forget that!
What a breath of fresh air!.......2007-08-02
This is quite simply the best album I've purchased all year. Just to give you some kind of idea of what you get in this album, just add quarter cup of Jill Scott, Eryka Badu, India Arie, and Billie Holliday, and that should pretty much sum it up. This is truely a rare gem. I love myself some Jill Scott, but Chrisette Michele comes in a close second.
One Of the Best Albums of 2007.......2007-07-31
This is what happens when you put Classic R&B, Urban, and Smooth Jazz together in one set. Chrisette has a vocal maturity, that you don't find in artist twice her age. Her voice is controlled, never overburdened, and always pleasant. My favorite songs on the album are, If I have My Way, Best Of Me, Your Joy, Good Girl, Golden, Love Is You, Is This The Way Love Feels, and the last song which is not listed on the cover, I Am One....Add this album to your collection today.......

T.I. may take alter-egotism to new heights on T.I. vs. T.I.P., an album that's essentially a spinoff of a song (Trap Muzik's psychologically charged "T.I. vs. T.I.P."), but few artists have been known to spin something so compelling out of a concept so silly. T.I.P. is the hoodie-wearing hustler we get to know in the first part of this exceptionally long disc--he curses and boasts behind the beats with a lazy bravado that manages to be both slouchy and sharp (check out "Da Dopeman," "Watch What You Say" featuring a fired-up Jay-Z, and "You Know What It is," with Wyclef), and T.I. is the right-minded tycoon-type who takes over for a while in act two. As smooth an operator as T.I. is--"Show It to Me," featuring Nelly, finds its groove and never lets up--he's more compelling in the grittier parts of the disc, including a four-song final act in which the two halves of his deeply divided personality square off. "Respect This Hustle," the M.C. commands on the next-to-last track; detractors will try not to, citing the slightness of his concept. T.I. is at the top of his game, though, and he makes it heard. --Tammy La Gorce

This album is fire!!!!!.......2007-08-03
I am not a big fan of the current state of rap/hip hop but have a few artists I check for. I personally think the lyrics and albums were a lot better about 10 years ago. But this album is the best I have heard in a while. T.I. cleverly switches his flow up throughout the album and raps his verses with a lot of passion. Especially on "Tell Em I Said That". That song might not make a great single because of the content but is easily the best I have heard from him. I have all his music except for the first album, and this one is the most complete. All of them have been good but this one, track for track shows his growth as an M.C. Standout tracks are "Raw", "Da Dopeman", "Touchdown", "My Type", "You Know What It Is", "My Swag", "We Do This" and of course "Tell Em I Said That". On that track he is goin' superhard at any rapper that never lived the life he talks about and breaks down their whole gimmick and how they try to get in the rap game. T.I. is easily one of the best emcees in the game and you gotta respect the fact that he stepped out there and called himself "King" before he even had all the major success he has now. It just shows what can happen if you believe in yourself..."As A Man Thinketh" so shall he become.
Disappointing.......2007-07-30
I actually liked a few tracks off of King...I would probably have given that a 3...
But this, this was horrible...
I'm just really sick of this recycled trash that hip-hop has turned into where basically everything people talk about concerns...
1. How many women they've slept with, and in general misogyny, disrespecting women as much as possible.
2. Drugs, drugs, and more drugs....I was a dopeboy...yee ha...I was a dopeboy...You can't hustle like me...yada yada.
3. Materialism...I know "cash rules everything around me" but it'd be nice to hear about the bad aspects of cash. It's not everything, but when you listen to so much of the genre these days all you hear is MOB. Money's more important than love, peace, kindness, God...any of that stuff that ultimately matters more than anything else.
I could go on, but I'm sure I got my point across...
I'm just glad Common's "Finding Forever" is coming out manana, or else I would have given up on most contemporary rap.
T.I. - T.I. vs T.I.P. .......2007-07-29
T.I's (A.K.A. Clifford Joseph Harris Jr) fifth album is "T.I. vs T.I.P." (2007). I found this release to be a sub-par effort from T.I. - a lot of the music found throughout the release being repetitive - a definite step down in lyrics and production from his last album. Not impressed by the lead single ""Big Things Poppin' (Do It)" - a track about people who talk big and don't back it up. To me T.I. is a fine example of that an average MC who calls himself "King" and does not back it up. I have no real interest listening to whole album based upon T.I.'s own internal battles. First track I did feel on this release was the Mannie Fresh produced "Da Dopeman" which T.I. laces with a solid chorus. Track's like Danja produced "Hurt" & Just Blaze's "Help Is Coming" will work for those who are looking for something to bang in the whip. The rest of the album is a mess to me one of the worst moment's for me was listening to Eminem trying to rhyme with a whiny flow on "Touch Down". T.I.'s braggy lyrics get beyond tiring, and the production found on this release is generally bland. Enlisting well known artists like Jay-Z, Eminem, Wyclef Jean, Busta Rhymes did not benefit this release, nothing against any of them but felt no one brought anything special to the table. I would rather hear a hungry MC who has something new to say. "T.I. explained the album's title, saying, "It's basically a battle within myself, there's not nobody out there doing what I do as well as I do it, so I see myself as worthy competition for myself". T.I. needs a wake up call, way to much ego, not enough quality music. "T.I. vs T.I.P." is not a release I would recommend for the collection.
Lovin It.......2007-07-28
I purchased this CD because I heard track 15 which is Act III the confrontation between T.I. & T.I.P. It appears to be one of those CD's that I play when I am traveling or in my F it mood. I am not the least bit disappointed. I put this CD in the player and I play it from track 1 right through to the end of the 2 bonus tracks and I hit repeat to start it all over again. My faves are:
#9 Help is Coming
#6 Watch What You Say
#19 The Hottest
#7 Hurt
#18 My Type
Highly - highly recommended!

Some music is celebrated for its elegant subtlety; Pink's slams you over the head. Four albums in, she's not changing her formula. I'm Not Dead touches on bulimia ("Stupid Girls"), war-mongering politicians ("Dear Mr. President"), teen angst ("Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self," "Runaway"), overheated pickup artists ("U + Ur Hand"), and gross materialism ("I Got Money Now"). None of it, in other words, is for featherweight listeners. Then again, none of it suits eggheaded college tastemakers either. Where this translates, then, is with those willing to man up and embrace what makes Pink Pink: her spellbinding ability to render rebelliousness in all the many colors of the rainbow. Neil Young-inspired acoustic guitar is sketched into "The One That Got Away," but it's just as quickly scribbled over by Joan Jett-style ranting (on "Long Way to Happy") and Janis Joplin/Joss Stone-fueled howling (on "Who Knew"). Even R&B gets its turn ("I Got Money Now"). The album also includes appearances from the Indigo Girls, who duet on "Dear Mr. President," and Pink's father, who joins for the hidden track "I Have Seen The Rain." Pink pulls all of this off, and probably without even breathing hard. She's not dead. --Tammy La Gorce

Pink Rocks It.......2007-07-17
First, I think Pink just has a raw power to her voice that so many of the other pop starts don't have. Second, she sets herself apart by having tracks with relevant topic, a couple of ballards and then tunes you can dance too. Lasly, she deserves at least music award nominations.
love it, I've played it a lot!.......2007-07-14
LOVE HER! Tracks 7 8 and 9 are continually played in my car. I love the whole album including the song with her dad (no credit though, why not?). She's real, shares a lot in her lyrics, and real artists are hard to come by these days.
Fantastic discovery!.......2007-06-28
I never was a fan of hip hop/dance/rap music, so I never really paid attention to Pink. I'll be the first to admit that was a big mistake. I heard "Who Knew" on the radio and was absolutely bowled over! I immediately went out and bought the album based on that one song. Turns out the album is full of fantastic musical gems. I didn't realize she changed her style to more of a rock/pop style. "Stupid Girls" is a great social statement (and totally made me think of Paris Hilton). "Who Knew" is one of my favorite songs of all times. "Long Way to Happy" is so catchy and awesome, it's my 2nd fave on the album. "Nobody Knows", "Dear Mr. President" and "I Got Money Now" are all great slowed down songs. I almost cried the first time I heard "Dear Mr. President". Extremely political and so very true, beautifully sung and deserves a lot of attention. "U + Ur Hand" and "Leave me Alone" are fun and full of attitude.
I'd like to add that not only is this album awesome, but I finally found out that Pink is an incredible vocalist and performer. Based on that, I ended up buying Misunduztood and there are several songs on that album I loved as well. I just wish I had noticed Pink long before this! Buy the album, you won't be disappointed!
Fantastic.......2007-06-10
Great album! Pink has really shown some great range! This cd is way beyond some "Stupid Girls".
AH! SHE OUT DID HERSELF!.......2007-06-06

Very Impressive.......2007-05-24
Lil Wayne Is in my opinion, the king of mixtapes right now. He is avereging about 1 mixtape every three months. This Mixtape is Awesome. Alot of his other mixtapes have people from his record label, and you only get to hear Weezy on one of the verses. However, on this mixtape he does it mainly by himself. This is more like a full cd or two. Great punchlines, I had to rewind a couple of times because I was dumb founded. Definitely worth the buy. Cant wait for his next mixtape!

Already an accomplished poet and novelist before he ambled into the music business in his mid-'30s, Leonard Cohen has remained as musically influential as he is publicly enigmatic for four decades. This celebration of Cohen's songbook began as a free concert that quickly mushroomed into a star-studded live tribute film shot at Sydney's famed Opera House and Brighton Dome. Musically supervised by Hal Willner (who's produced similar recorded tributes to Mingus, Monk, Rota and Weill), it recasts Cohen's evocative, emotionally uncompromising songs in compelling performances by singers who range from fellow cult heroes Nick Cave and Beth Orton to energetic newcomer Teddy Thompson and even rock gods U2. The latter's powerful collaboration with Cohen himself on the signature "Tower of Song" bookends Martha Wainright's solo opening rendition of the composition, deftly underscoring the project's eclectic artisanship in the bargain. Cave somehow channels the title track through Chicago's South Side via Weimar Berlin, while Teddy Thompson ponders "The Future" with exuberance and The Handsome Family informs "Famous Blue Raincoat" with elegant melodrama. Other standouts include Rufus Wainwright's nouveau Tango work-up of "Everybody Knows," Perla Batalla's gorgeous, Norteño-seasoned "Bird On a Wire" and her collaborations with Cave and Julia Christenson on "Suzanne" and "Anthem." A collection that's both a savvy primer to Cohen's catalog and impressive artistic achievement in its own right. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
This soundtrack features powerful performances of Cohen masterpieces by an outstanding array of today's top singer-songwriters. The tracks on the CD were recorded live at Hal Willner's "Came So Far For Beauty: An Evening of Leonard Cohen Songs", at the Brighton Dome as part of the Brighton Festival 2004 and at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Sydney Festival 2005, except "Tower of Song"featuring Leonard Cohen and U2.
Customer Reviews:
MESMERIZING - Excellent variety of artists and songs by Leonard Cohen.......2007-05-29
If you saw the movie I'm Your Man about Leonard Cohen and enjoyed the music, then expect to feel similarly towards this CD. There are a few songs that are missing from the movie, most notably Hallelujah sung by Rufus Wainwright in the show.
If you've never heard of Leonard Cohen, you are in for a new experience.
His lyrics are incredible - poetry of a kind we rarely hear these days.
His voice is only on this CD one time, in a spoken version of Tower of Song which is sung with U2 at the conclusion of the CD.
The variety of the types of songs keeps the listening fresh. The musicians who cover the songs were unknown to me: (but very capable) -- Nick Cave, Anthony - who sings a gorgeous "If it be your will" - Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Teddy Thompson and others. Track #15 called Anthem stands out as well.
This will appeal to those who know of and like LC, and if you enjoy folk rock, often acoustic, and exquisitely poetic lyrics.
Highly recommended
next to being there...this is as good as it gets.......2007-05-13
Discovered this concert film at netflix. Loved it so much I purchased the audio cd. Leonard Cohen's music is wonderful of itself, but the new interpretaions by this diverse group of young singers made it all new again. Hearing these "next-generation" performers has opened a whole new world to me. Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Teddy Thompsom, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker, Beth Orton, Anthony are all major talents! And the few elders on the CD, The McGarrigles, Perla Batala, Julie Christensen, and the U2 guys were a revelation performing this music! Unfortunately, not all the songs on the movie are included in the audio cd. But what is there is exceptional!
Where is Hallelujah ??????.......2007-05-08
I am a long time fan of Leonard Cohen and thoroughly enjoyed the "I'm Your Man" DVD, so happily bought the soundtrack...... BUT where are my favorites on this cd? The Traitor version is different from the amazing dvd rendition, and my all time favorite tune from the movie, Hallelujah, is missing!!!
Most people are probably familiar with, and prefer, the Buckley rendition of this wonderful Cohen song. I, too, loved it until I was blessed to hear the Rufus Wainwright version -- now nothing else compares, especially with the harmonies and additional performers on the dvd. Yes, you can find the song by Rufus on one of his albums, but it's not the one from the dvd -- even the director expressed disappointment at its ommission from what should be a compillation of the best and most important songs.
Still worth a listen, especially for Antony's chilling version of "If it be your will" and a couple others, but I need to learn to read the song list & also how to get an audio dub from the film!!!
Get the DVD instead!
Pure magic.......2007-05-07
It was probably a life experience to attend this concert. For those who weren't so lucky, it is still sounds like pure magic just to listen to it.
Best regards from Barcelona,
Sergi
Incomplete Soundtrack.......2007-04-06
There is no 'less than wonderful' track on this CD. However, it is misleading, and disappointing, having it advertised as the original soundtrack, as three of the originals on the DVD are missing.

Put together by Abba's own Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! manages to cram over 20 of the Swedish supergroup's songs into a threadbare plot. It goes a little like this: Young Sophie is getting married and she's trying to identify which of three men is her father. That's about it. Wisely, the musical doesn't mess around with the songs, save for the insertion of some dialogue or for having some of them performed by a man (it works amazingly well). Abba fans will jump on this import of the London production, but traditional fans of musical theater should consider it as well. After all, Andersson and Ulvaeus's songs have always felt as if they were more than isolated pop gems and actually belonged to a longer narrative. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

This is a grand list of songs from the original musical when it was first introduced in England. The songs from ABBA are very recognizable even if you haven't seen the show. But, making a trip to NY to see the Broadway production is a plus. ENJOY!

I RECENTLY SAW THE SHOW MAMMA MIA IN LAS VEGAS. ALWAYS LIKES THE MUSIC OF ABBA, AND THOUGH THE PLOT WAS THIN, THE MUSIC WAS WELL PERFORMED. IN THIS PARTICULAR ALBUM, THE ENGLISH ACCENTS WERE A BIT MUCH, BUT THE SONGS WERE GREAT. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC, ABBA.
Mamma Mia.......2007-01-29
Every time I hear the music and songs it brings back memories of seeing the Broadway Show
Not good at all.......2007-01-09
This is not what we wanted. The British accents throw it was off. We just saw it in NY and this is not what we were looking for.

If you're on the fence about whether music from American Idol alumnus Constantine Maroulis is worth your time, consulting the cover art could help. Those who swooned over his dark good looks in 2005 will be swayed again instantly. And in the end, that won't be a bad thing. Constantine, the former contestant's first solo album (fans will note that Pray for the Soul of Betty, a 2005 release, was the work of a band to which Constantine contributed vocals prior to his TV turn) rocks hard, rejects infantile songwriting, and leaves no room for duds--each of its 12 tracks surprises with a maturity you wouldn't necessarily expect from a guy who got his big break on TV. The opening piano plinks of "Girl Like You" give way to a Santana-esque romp, "Everybody Loves" brings out the Freddy Mercury in Maroulis' likable if not overly pliant voice, and "Sister, Sister"--one of a few numbers co-written by Maroulis--steals hearts with a sharp turn away from the predictable; here's a song about sibling love from an artist who some would expect to focus on lusty joints. Constantine's producers play it straight and don't get overly fancy, but that's not to say the disc is without flourishes. The sizzle Constantine normally reserves for the camera slips directly into these songs. --Tammy La Gorce

Album Description
Constantine Maroulis is one of American Idol's most popular stars. He made American Idol's 2005 season exceptional with his delivery of Queens' Bohemian Rhapsody. Constantine's accomplishments since idol have been stellar. From starring in Off-Broadway's acclaimed Jacques Brell Is Alive And Well In Paris, to co-hosting Idol Chatter on Fox's Good Day NY, he remains a great talent. On May 14th, 2007, Constantine became a featured performer on The Bold and The Beautiful, the number two soap in the world. Constantine's role was created especially for him and the show incorporates music from Constantine's upcoming album. This forthcoming album includes great songwriters from LA, NYC, and Nashville including Rob Thomas; Willie Nelson; Angie Aparo (Faith Hill); Marcel (Rascal Flats); Grammy-nominated Kevin Kadish (Jason Mraz) as well as songs by band members Boggia, Copely and Roye.

This is not the typical example of an artist from another genre jumping on the crowded standards-and-ballads bandwagon. When I Fall in Love instead represents an instrumental stylist busting out of a box to find a much more suitable platform for his craft. These tracks are the fruits of an obvious labor of love for everyone from the featured musicians to the arrangers to the engineers. The arrangers, particularly Billy Childs and Gil Goldstein, give Botti's trumpet a broad-brushed orchestral backdrop that allows him to emerge from the swirling strings and bouncy horns with bold strokes of creative improvising. Some tracks are obvious nods to Gil Evans and the lush arrangements of 1970s CTI recordings. Even the guest vocalists, Sting and Paula Cole, let his trumpet sing first before their respective cues on "La Belle Dame Sans Regrets" and "What'll I Do." The only blemish here is the obvious attempt at smooth jazz airplay with Sade's "No Ordinary Love." --Mark Ruffin

People amaze me.....and oneday hopefully..they WON'T.......2007-08-05
This guy is awesome..I need not say more, but I'm gunna. I'm totally laughing at the reviews, particualry because Chris added a rendition of Sade's "No Ordinary Love". OMG, the song is so beautiful, just as "Ever Since We Met" is on ATKD. I understand how and why artist get jaded, when their efforts aren't well recieved when they do great work...example (Chante Moore), but I digress. Their really isn't in my awesome opinion to much critque about this Chris Botti's work. I'm pretty sure these are the same people that hate the company APPPLE and their products..Well guess what ," The intelligent crowd is always smaller than the mainstream" My question is..Where do you land? All you psudeo critics I compare to the "Holier Than Thou" crowd, whom make me shout "Let's here it for SIN!". Chris is awesome, although his first cd "First Wish" was tad on the SNUZ side. However, the day I find fault in one of his new cd's.... call me and I'll eat my words as we do lunch on the moon.
Chris Botti - Great Date CD.......2007-07-15

Beautiful music to soothe the soul...highly recommended!
beautifully romanic.......2007-06-13
Chris Botti is spectacular. What a great talent. This CD is so far my favorite, but then I still have not heard all of his. It is so romantic, peaceful, and happy. I love it.
Great music for that special relaxing mood !.......2007-06-13
I bought this CD for my husband (he is a big Smooth Jazz lover). After I heard it I thought the CD was so romantic and it just set the mood for a fine relaxing evening for the two of us. Guess I'm now a Smooth Jazz lover.

Customer Reviews:
classic music CD.......2007-06-27
The CD was well represented by the clips on the Amazon website and came in time for our event. We did have a problem with the charge but that was taken care of promptly. Great service.
Good for beginners.......2007-02-15
It is an excellent collection of classical music. I would recommend this CD if you have a friend who don't like classical music, since it has the most beautiful overtures and portions of famous artists. If you are a Classic Music Savvy you probably will not be impressed by it, unless you want to play the CD as background music in a friends gathering.
Great mix.......2007-02-14
All the best composers! Over an hour of music. A samble of the greatest pieces.
Good for first-timer.......2007-01-22
This is the first time I have ever bought a classical music CD and I was very pleased with this one. It has a good variety of selections. I would buy it again.
25 Classical Favorites cd.......2007-01-06
This CD has so many of my favorite, lively classical music -- love it!!
