Album Description

Saxon are British through and through. Not only are they among the founders of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal that kick-started a new musical genre in the early Eighties, they've also upheld the theme of their native country in their lyrics as well as in their music for some 25 years. Pretty much the same can be said of every aspect of their new, haunting album, The Inner Sanctum. From their impressive songwriting with its powerful sounds and ambitioned lyrics about eastern revolutions, British Kings and Queens and the attitude of great warriors, to their striking cover artwork, Saxon unequivocally stand by their origins. At the same time, the band surrounding vocalist Biff Byford display an energy that's almost physically perceptible. Byford rightly explains: "The Inner Sanctum is the most powerful album we've ever recorded."

The North American version of The Inner Sanctum comes packaged with a bonus DVD featuring videoclips and Saxon outtakes.

4 out of 5 stars Saxon's second wind.......2007-07-31

It's funny, but Saxon, despite being active for the better part of the last three decades seems to really have hit their stride in recent years. The band's glory days may be long behind them, and their lineup shattered, but with their last few albums (2001's Killing Ground, 2004's Lionheart, and now 2007's the Inner Sanctum), Saxon has reached a musical peak not seen since their benchmark New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) albums.

It's refreshing to see a veteran band that isn't content to rest on their laurels and deliver the same stale albums over and over again. Saxon is rocking with all the energy of a much younger band, and that energy is the driving force behind albums like the Inner Sanctum. This is a tight, professional album that recalls both the seminal NWOBHM movement as well as today's more refined power metal sound. Driving anthems like "Need for Speed" and "I've Got to Rock (To Stay Alive)" would not have been out of place on Wheels of Steel or Denim and Leather, and epic tracks "Red Star Falling" and "Attila the Hun" are worthy of NWOBHM peers Iron Maiden.

Anyone who may have written Saxon off in the 90's would do well to pay attention to what the band has been up to recently. Call it a metal revival, or maybe just the band's second wind. Whatever it is, the result is a string of fantastic metal albums that no classic metal fan should be without.

NOTE: There are a couple of different versions of the Inner Sanctum. The European version features a radio edit of the song "If I Was You" as a bonus track, while the US version comes with a bonus DVD that features outtakes, live material and other behind the scenes footage. Given its lower price tag, the US version is probably the way to go.

2 out of 5 stars Nowhere else to go.........2007-07-30

To my utter disappointment, Saxon worked again with producer Charlie Bauerfeind, a producer specialized in European power metal bands, the ones that use double-kick drums all the time, sing only about the Templars, dragons, magicians, whatever. The result was tragic in LIONHEART, the previous Saxon album, because basically there was no Saxon in it anymore: just pedestrian and generic European power metal.

The formula repeated itself in this album. There is no spark, nothiong brilliant, not one song even close to become a classic.

Anyway, any band that lasts for so long in the very difficult music business has incredible merit and should be praised, not criticized.

Buy this album if you're a Saxon completist or if you're into generic European metal.

5 out of 5 stars Saxon Kickin'.......2007-06-27

If your a fan of Saxon add this to your cd collection. It's a cd/dvd combo. The clarity of the dvd is amazing. It's just like you are front row at the show. Under rated band to say the least. They rock hard for sure. Saxon is like Motorhead to me. I don't think either band has a bad album !!

5 out of 5 stars saxon once again!!.......2007-06-19

It's been awhile since they've had a real good hard rockin'release .The
dogs of war was the last real good cd I think. The others that follow
were ok but seemed to go to a heavier sound than from what they were known
for. It's great that they came out with this in thier old form, reminding
me of crusader, strong arm and innocense. This truly is worth buying !!.Oh
and not to forget solid ball of rock.

4 out of 5 stars Another great Saxon album!.......2007-06-05

Back in the mid-80s, Saxon, along with Iron Maiden and Def Leppard was supposed to become one of the biggest bands of the NWOBHM movement, and while Iron Maiden and Def Leppard achieved worldwide fame and fortune by going in completely opposite routes, Saxon chose to pander to the hair metal crowd and alienated most of their former fans along the way. Surprisingly the band turned their sound around and has been quietly releasing consistently great Metal albums since their return to form album "Unleash the Beast" in 1997.. that's 10 years.
Most new Metal bands don't last that long!
Their new album, Inner Sanctum pretty much follows the same style and sound of their previous four CDs, without any signs of watering down their heavy sound, slowing down or altering their to fit in with the new metalcore crowd.

Saxon sticks to the type of music they practically invented in the early 80s: Pure, Classic NWHOB Heavy Metal.

With the exception of the album opener, "State of Grace" the rest of songs in this album can't really be considered modern Saxon classics like "Travellers in Time" from Metalhead or "The Thin Red Line" from Unleash the Beast, but, nevertheless, the songwriting on this CD is far better than most of what passes as metal music these days and it is consistent enough to make this album an enjoyable release that will please any Saxon fan.

5 out of 5 stars F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!.......2006-02-02

I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.

5 out of 5 stars At LAST the complete series ORIGINAL soundtrack, the wait is over!.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

5 out of 5 stars Simply beatiful music in a different kind of progressive. .......2005-03-05

Heavily borrowing from romantic classical late 1800 composers (from Berliotz to Wagner), the Enid (mostly a creature of talented Robert John Godfrey)have produced between mid 70's to the early 80's ... simply beautiful music.
How to further describe it? I would not know, and frankly I do not think is necessary. Enid music is beautifull, that's all.

Any of their albums is wonderfull just pick one, put it on, dim the light, close your eyes and let their music guide your dreams.

I pride myself of a quite vast collection of progr music from allover the world, but I've never found anything like them. Rick Wakemann and sometimes Keith Emerson tried to blend classical music with prog rock, but neither one consistently tried to do so in all his work, like the ENID tried and in my view succeded.

Give it a try.

    Product Description

If you are trying to surround yourself with positive messages, and are looking for music with substance, this CD is for you. Positive messages that don t preach, rocking arrangements with a contemporary twist and great vocals and guitars define this groundbreaking release, "Build That Bridge," by performer, Beth Schafer. After her 2006 American Idol Underground win in the faith-based category, Schafer set out to do what no performers are currently doing...write music with positive faith-affirming, peace-affirming messages that would appeal to listeners, regardless of their faith affiliation. With thick layers of vocals, electronica and guitars fronted by Beth's silky voice, the messages of "Build That Bridge" reach out to those who believe in God and hope for peace; who are willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with others like themselves regardless of what church or temple they pray in. The title track, co-written and performed by veteran rocker Larry Hoppen of the band, Orleans, is backed by Beth's all-star band as is the rest of this well-arranged, well-produced collection. Schafer has garnered fans of so many diverse faiths, it was time to assemble a project that spoke to her fanbase directly; letting them know that the music that unites them could create friendships that could lead to peace. The overall mood is celebratory and hopeful; making you want to join the cast of thousands who sing along on the two live tracks toward the CD s end. "Build That Bridge" is ambitious and fresh. The solid melodies and thick harmonies are memorable, even infectious. Schafer as a player stands apart from the average guitar-slinging folk singer, and as a writer, shatters the one-dimensional rock songs of the modern faith-based repertoire.

I have heard all of his CD's and I own most of them. I listen to this album frequently. I have also heard him in concert. When I listen to his music I experience the beauty, peace, and love that exists in the angelic realms. In talking to others at his concerts and in my own experience, each piece takes you to somewhere beautiful where you feel healed, uplifted, and expanded. People often sense angelic presences around them as they listen, called by this beautiful music. Sanaya Roman - ...

        Album Description

Nietzsche once said, "what does not kill me makes me stronger". Whatever you think of the German's metaphysics, it seems to be a maxim that has guided Robert John Godfrey, and The Enid. No matter how many times they get knocked down, they'll always get up. And, miracle of miracles, they will always make worthwhile music. 20 tracks total. Inner Sanctum.
