Vata

Editorial Reviews
Product Description
We all know that music can be a powerful way to change your mood. Music can also be a powerful way to harmonize you when stress leaves you out of balance - unable to relax fully or drained of vitality and joy.

Finding a healthy balance is the foundation of Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old healing tradition of India.

Ayurveda teaches that human beings are made up of three essential qualities, or "doshas," called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and that only when these qualities are in harmony with one another can you experience radiant health, abundant energy, and the full expression of your potential.

This beautiful musical program, created by an Ayurvedic clinician, is designed to harmonize the Vata energies within you, allowing you to naturally experience states of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and abundant energy.

Listen closely for a "musical meditation," or play this unique recording in the background while you do other activities. Enclosed notes help you to identify your specific type (dosha) according to the principles of Ayurveda and clearly explain how this recording can be used to bring you tranquillity, aliveness, and optimal performance.

5 out of 5 stars You will be soothed withing the first few notes!.......1998-07-05

Bruce and Brian BecVar have successfully applied the principles of Vedic music into sounds that please the modern listener. This music follows the ancient practice of Ayurveda and is especially pleasing to the Vata constitution. Anyone who is frazzled and finds themselves doing too much, should immediately purchase this CD. As soon as the music begins, you can not help but step back, breathe, and just look in amusement at the unnecessary chaos in your life. Five stars to the BecVar's for providing soothing music to calm me throughout the day.

5 out of 5 stars Music to carry you away.......2005-07-22

One day I was passing time by sampling CDs in the "new age" music section of a Barnes & Noble. (Ya no, where there are listening stations with headphones at which you scan the bar code of a CD.) When I listened to excerpts of Vata, something snagged me. And the something it snagged was so piqued that I bought it (cheaper at Amazon.com). Now I'm hooked.

It's a genteel, classical-like melody gone awry as pent up energy is released. Plucky strings, synthesizers, and splashes of keyboards carry you along a torrent of notes doing a curiously seductive staccato dance. Any likening to circus music is a perception of it's absolute joy (verging on, dare I say, merry).

The next musical section is an arrival. It starts out with a European flavor, the type that people raise their steins and toast life (sort of, in a mild way). The pace is slower, but the joy is the same. And then it morphs into a more sober, electronic-like piece. The tempo slows. Finally the music becomes an environment, describing a growing serenity as if trees relax and puddles resume being mirrors after an afternoon shower. At the very end is an abbreviated refrain of the beginning, an affirmation of enlivening nature.

According to the back of the jewel case, this music is in keeping with "Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old healing tradition of India" and "is designed to harmonize the Vata energies within you, allowing you to naturally experience states of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and abundant energy". Do I believe this? Well, it's certainly not why I bought the album, but as I mentioned above, I do find this music to have infectious energy. I'm not saying it's for everybody, and it certainly helps to be in a certain frame of mind (in which I always seem to be for this album). If you are in the mood for a soundtrack to life with a dignified festival feel, check out Vata.

The last guy was right - it sounds like circus music - or something you'd hear from a video game! Save your money!

      1 out of 5 stars Circus Music.......2002-04-03

I feel like I'm listening to music from a circus or a puppet show. Not relaxing or therapeutic at all.
