About the Artist
Becc Lester grew up in West Memphis and started singing before she could read. From across the river she heard the sounds of Memphis and decided to focus all of her attention on becoming a musician. While in college working towards a degree in music, Becc won numerous talent shows both in Arkansas and in Tennessee.

Her voice is extremely powerful yet possesses an undeniable spiritual quality that is simply beautiful. As a performer she is a natural because, as she admits, "I love to sing."

With almost an album's world of material already produced, Becc is ready for major labels to take a look at her. She admits to having an intense affection for jazz (she studied with Joyce Cobb for a year) but has her eyes on Nashville where she hopes to bring to country a little bit of Memphis.

Arise From Thorns may sound like they come from the Goth rock school of music, but in reality, their music has more to do with progressive rock. The songs bear the mark of complex arrangements, deft instrumental passages, underlying orchestral-like nuances, and rich and moving melodies.ARISE FROM THORNS definitely deserve the progressive tag. Before Brave..........2007-04-21

Before the atmospheric progressive rock band Brave became a mainstay of the Virginia metal scene, they originally operated as Arise from Thorns, issuing a pair of albums. 1999's Before an Audience of Stars follows their self-titled debut, and showcases a much stronger, more confident band. A lot has to do with the production quality, which is notably improved, but musically and vocally this is a stronger album as well.

Arise from Thorns' style is very similar to the Gathering's. I wouldn't really call it metal, though there are metallic aspects. Instead I see this band as a very atmospheric, melodic, keyboard oriented progressive rock band with a sound that relies heavily on vocalist Michele Loose's considerable vocal talents. The heavy use of keyboards and acoustic guitars is nice, but there are times when plugging in and rocking out a bit would have made it more effective.

If you're already a Brave fan, you'll definitely want to check out Before an Audience of Stars. If you're unfamiliar with the band, you'd be better off checking out a Brave album before journeying back to their Arise from Thorns days.
