About the Artist
Miranda Wilson Ravin, composer of Classical, Baroque, Romantic and Electronica music, was born in Denver, Colorado, and has experienced a musical journey ever since. She attended Oberlin Conservatory, where she studied composition, voice, music theory, and world music. At this time, she performed concerts of African music at folk music festivals with the renowned ethnomusicologist, Roderic Knight. At Oberlin, she performed with Jim Scott (Paul Winter Consort) and Morgan Fichter, Violinist (10,000 Maniacs).
A few years later, she began studying composing at the Colorado College with Carleton Gamer, a student of Roger Sessions, where she received her B.A. Her first studio recording, the String Quartet: "The Wonder of Kathyryn Isaacson (Katie's Soul)," was produced during this time on a compilation album. Her "String Quartet and "Woodwind Quintet" were performed in concerts in Colorado Springs.
Later, she studied composing for two years at the Academy of Music in Prague with the composer, Petr Eben, who was a student of Bohuslav Martinu. Hanus Barton´ recorded her Variations on a Bohemian Folksong on a studio recording. The "Flute Quartet," was also recorded and performed in Prague.
Upon returning from Europe, "Capriccio" was performed in concert by the Facets Quartet. A few years later, Maestra Antonia Joy Wilson, world-renowned Conductor and Artistic Director, performed a premiere of her "Ambient Fanfare" in concert with the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra. The AdagioThe Beautiful Dream, a Baroque piece written for her husband was played by Andrea Wiseman, member of the Facets Quartet, at her wedding at the Botanic Gardens in Denver.
Her CD, Waterbearer, Soothing Music for Massage is euphoric, ambient, electronic, instrumental music and it is selling at Twist and Shout, through the Center of Advanced Therapeutics, and the Tattered Cover Bookstores in Denver (massage section).
In 2005, she received a Film Composition certificate through the Film Music Institute in Los Angeles, CA with film composers, Milton Nelson, Mark Northam, and Guy Michelmore.
She is currently Music Supervisor for a leading Denver production company, Globeville Studios. Under the direction of Creative Director, Screenwriter, and Cinematographer, Justin Spicer, she composed classical, electronic and pop music for a Corporate DVD for Exempla Healthcare and is currently working on composing music for the Sonnenalp Hotel and Spa in Vail, for a Faux Painting School DVD, and a second historical DVD for Exempla Healthcare.
