GREAT CD........2007-05-14
A great CD of rock'n'roll, the songs are fantastic. Good sound. To the lovers of this music it is recommended to him
The Flamingos.......2006-03-17
Unfortunatley, most of the songs are from the "B" side of their hits. There are some good tunes, but not enough familiar ones.
Excellent.......2005-08-03
This album is definitely a great purchase. There are too many great songs to list all of them, but "I only have eyes for you" has got to be one of the greatest DooWop songs of all time. If you consider yourself a DooWop fan, then this album is a must.
What's Not to Like?.......2005-01-05
One early reviewer of this package says he only hears "Lovers Never Say Goodbye" by these guys on the oldies stations. That has not been my experience, but I do hope that Terry Johnson of the group is collecting royalties as he wrote it and went on to write my favorite Miracles' song, "Baby, Baby, Don't Cry" with Smokey Robinson. Surely the most popular of the Flamingos' tunes is "I Only Have Eyes for You" written in the 1930s and covered by the group in 1959 with a knock-you-dead arrangement that is a classic; Art Garfunkel copied the arangement for his solo version some years later. This is a very good package and I recommend it. The Flamingos were rightfully inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame AND the Doo Wop Hall of Fame (no, really) in 2001. Is there any wonder why?
Here's to one of the greatest vocal groups of all time.......2004-04-30
What is the most perfect sounding single of all time? Many collectors would answer that question without hesitation. "Golden Teardrops" by The Flamingos was released on the fledgling Chance label in Chicago in late 1953. This is an unforgettable and truly elegant recording featuring the passionate lead of Sollie McElroy and the intricate harmonies of first tenor Johnny Carter, second tenor Zeke Carey, baritone Paul Wilson and bass Jake Carey. This record would establish the group as one of the top R&B vocal groups of the era. But the Flamingos were not content to be just an outstanding vocal group. They also played their own instruments and choreographed the act as well. Many of the Motown groups a decade later would emulate the Flamingos.
In the marvelous "The Complete Book of Doo Wop" authors Anthony Gribin and Matthew Schiff list what they feel are the top 1000 doo wop records of all time. There are 10 records by the Flamingos on that list. 9 of these songs appear on this wonderful CD. Once again, Rhino has done a masterful job with this compilation. There is an informative 8 page booklet featuring a history of the group as well as a complete discography. This is an especially important feature for doo wop groups since most tended to wander from label to label. The Flamingos were no exception in this regard. Sit down relax and enjoy tunes like "That's My Desire" from 1953, "I'll Be Home" as well as tunes we all know and love like "Lovers Never Say Goodbye" and of course "I Only Have Eyes For You". I am confident that you will enjoy each and every one of the 18 tracks on the CD. One track I would have included here had it been up to me was the groups rendition of Patti Pages "Cross Over the Bridge". It is one of my favorites. Whether you are a long time fan of doo wop or someone just exploring the genre for the first time, this is a recording worth owning. Highly recommended.

THESE GUYS BELONG IN THE R&R HALL OF FAME!!!.......1999-06-29
I still find it hard to believe that the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame ignores groups like The Flamingos and The Moonglows, both of whom had several hit singles. The Flamingos are one of the absolute best r&b groups to come along and their voices blend so well you know their music will put you in the mood for love any old time. Maybe someday this wonderful group will finally get their due, they definitely deserve it.
The "FABULOUS" Flamingos.......1999-02-07
This is the ultimate collection of the ultimate group. No one in the music business has ever recorded better versions of new and "standard" material than the Flamingos. These two CDs will keep you in a mellow "wish my girl were here" mood for years to come. Trust me...the tracks on this compilation can not be outdone...Disc 2 will blow you away!

A Mellow, thoroughly enjoyable Breeze from the Past........1998-11-29
When the Ink Spots first introduced stratified, rhythmic songs featuring counter-tenor and deep bass voices, often sung a capella, the style later called "Doo-wop" was considered Racial, or "Colored". Throughout the 30s and 40s the style was refined and finally emerged in the Flamingos smooth sound. It took Pat Boone "pushing" and singing "in front" of "I'll Be Home" to get the Flamingos the attention they deserved. Several of this group's songs have been featured recently in films and on TV, with Bill Cosby and Felicia Rashad dancing on The Bill Cosby show to the Flamingo's glittering rendition of "I Only Have Eyes for You". This same 50s classic was the closing music for one of Tim Reid's series; Reid and his wife dance to this at night in front of the Lincoln Memorial. I can't get along without this album, and that's why I'm ordering two more; one for each car.

Golden!!! Absolute perfection from an amazing group!.......2002-02-08
A beautiful experience to hear this amazing group sing standards on this album! The Flamingos have been my all-time favorite group since I first heard them sing "I Only Have Eyes For You" (now considered a standard) and "Lovers Never Say Goodbye" in 1959. I have many of their 45's and I only bought this album because it was the only one that included "Yours," which was the flip side of "Love Walked In." If you've never heard the Flamingos sing "Yours" you're missing an extraordinary experience. But then any song by the Flamingos is extraordinary. Their world-class harmonies, timing, and intricate arrangements are always seamless and beautiful beyond words! Their sound is truly unique and timeless. I've also purchased "The Best of the Flamingos" (The Doo Bop She Bop), and will be purchasing more in the future. The music of the Flamingos is music from heaven!
Unfortunely, five of the original members have passed ... Nate Nelson (the golden-voiced tenor), Sollie McElroy, Paul Wilson (baritone), and cousins Jacob and Zeke Carey (founders of the group in 1952). Zeke and Jake were responsible for maintaining the high standards by which the group has always performed. Thankfully, Tommy Hunt, Johnnie Carter, and Buzzy Johnson are still with us as far as I know. Their fantastic talents as a group have been emulated but never been duplicated, and most likely never will. They have left an enduring legacy of music for millions of people to enjoy. God bless them all!

An incredible follow up to `Pequeno' .......2005-07-20
`Pequeno' recorded in 1999 remains as the best album Enrique has recorded as of yet. So, when `Flamingos' was announced the expectations were high, he had already presented a couple of the new songs in live performances (`Si' and `...y al final') and somehow the public knew what to expect.
Following the idea of `Pequeno' being a conceptual album divided in three parts (Pequeno, Cabaret and Ambulante), `Flamingos' shows what the concept of this album will be from the cover. Using the metaphor of the boxing, Bunbury delivers 15 of his best songs ever written, almost at the level of those from `Pequeno'.
The comparison between both albums is somehow necessary as the new one follows the idea of the musicals and the cabaret presented in his previous work. Some of the artists Enrique admires and has worked with are present on this album, Carlos Ann, Adria Punti, Shuarma (from `Elefantes') and Jaime Urrutia (former member of `Gabinete Caligari') with whom he sings an excellent duet called `No se fie'. The lyrics are one of the best things the album has, filled with personal anecdotes beautifully told and metaphors all Bunbury style. The band impresses as it did in the last album, the synergy of all the musicians is hard to define, and this album wouldn't definitely be the masterpiece it is hadn't Bunbury had this band. Copi, Ana Belen, Rafa, del Moran, and the rest, each one of them has his moment in this disc.
The album opens with a powerful piece entitled `El club de los imposibles' in which Enrique basically introduces and describes his band, `El huracan ambulante'. Then we have the first single `Si' originally written by Adria Punti, Copi is just unbelievable in this piece and is one of the highlights on his live performances. Then we have `Contar contigo' followed by `Sacame de aqui', an incredible musical piece filled with very interesting metaphors in the lyrics. `Enganchado a ti' is a rhythmic piece delivered by the band in one of its best moments in this album. `Lady Blue' clearly shows the influence that David Bowie has had on Enrique, the guitar riffs and the lyrics are reminiscent of `Heroes'. `Ciudad de bajas pasiones' presents a quite unusual instrumentation and a sharp critique to Mexican politics, when president Fox came up with the `brilliant' idea of banning the popular `corridos' because they encouraged narcotrafic and how easy is to smuggle drugs into an airplane as long as you have enough money to bribe migration.
The best piece of the album is indeed the one that closes it, appropriately entitled `...y al final'. A beautiful vals that talks about a farewell and an undying love, beautiful music and even more beautiful lyrics.
The album presentation is quite regular and no lyrics are present (who needs them anyway?) There is an import version in a different case similar to the one used for `Pequeno' but the design is basically the same. A whole new disc, 15 unbelievable themes and deluxe guests make this album an awesome musical experience and the perfect follow up for one of the best albums in rock history ever.
Musica de verdad- A masterpiece.......2005-06-13
English Review
Perhaps it is Enrique Bunbury's sublime interaction with the surreal that makes Flamingos an imminent danger to the pop infested youth, thankfully those of you listening ot this album will be saitsfied with its imperative originality and decisive fusion of tango, rock and roll, and boleros among other genres. Yet what makes Bunbury the spanish Bob Dylan is not his affiliation with the road life, the anarchist sentiment, or his affinity for the bohemian conditioning of his overwhelming lyrics, no! what makes Bunbury an everyday Dylan is his all out honesty, and his sense of originality and genuineness. He is against the studio fixation of the uncapable singer, ( he is one of the best live acts you could ever hear) but it is rather what he calls the brute nature of his art, thus the raspy oversinging in his voice, or his S's turning into random whistles in the middle of songs. That is the beauty of his music; his intuitiveness, his predicliction for the unwanted element of art. Not surprising the songs in this album are full of disenchanment, heartbreak, anger, hope and all together forgiveness. Because Flamingos is a boxing match, a journey through 15 rounds of human emotion and artistic sensibility, one should take the album hands on and un-inhibited. A good bottle of wine, some cigarrets and a lonely afternoon will do, lay back and enjoy the match.
esencia,no sabor.Sonora Radical es muy experimental pero dentro del genero rock progresive. No es el mejor cd es el peor hasta ahorita.........sorry
A True Work of Art.......2004-06-18
Now this is what I call a master piece. Although many fans believe that Pequeno is Enrique's best album, I have to say that "Flamingos" is his best album. It's one of those albums that you never get tire of listening. Every song is unique in its own way and the lyrics are powerful though not as personal as "pequeno's" lyrics. My favorite songs are: Sacame de aqui, lady blue, si, y al final, hermosos y malditos, and ciudad de bajas pasiones. This is an absolutely must have album. In fact, it's the best spanish rock album that I have ever heard and I doubt that it can be challenged.
Greatest spanish rock album.......2004-04-14
This is a truly excellent album, it's one of a kind. It's intense and rich in philosophical lyrics. It transports you into a different world. I stronly believe that it's Bunbury's best piece of work aside Heroes del Silencio. In fact, it's the best rock albums I have ever heard, can't get enough of it, better than "radical sonora."

Smooth as Silk.......2000-01-21
What more can be said for that unique "sound" that Nate Nelson brought to the group, when you put 1950's and the word ballad together you automatically come up with the Flamingos. They're best known for their ballads, and sixteen out of the twenty tracks are just that, but don't get me wrong, the Flamingos can put over an uptempo tune just as well. You get two previously unissued tracks, both are alternate takes of "When" and "I'll Be Home". My all time favorite Flamingos song is "A Kiss From Your Lips". It is unfortunate that all the members of the Flamingos are no longer with us, but we are very fortunate to have their musical legacy live on captured on disc.

A brilliant movie made by a homosexual. .......2007-08-04
Okay everyone. Now your's truly has heard quite a bit about this movie. As a matter of fact A&E was doing a special about cult movies, which as you know are a favorite of mine, as this was featured briefly. It showed them running around and licking the furniture. I thought it looked really good. So I just got it in the mail today and am going to a do a first time watch review type thing because I will write my feelings about it as I watch it for the very first time. Now this movie is made by this John Waters guy and apparently he has never made a good movie. Here is is resume:
A Dirty Shame NC-17 Version / Desperate Living / Female Trouble / Hairspray / Pecker / Pink Flamingos / Polyester
Do any of these movie sound any good? Nope. But, I have high hopes for this one and without further ado:
Lights, Action, Camera!!
Yuck there's some white junk on this disc. I'll just have to wipe it off and try again. Ok
Lights, Action, Camera!!
Ok there's this little motor home and some cool rockabilly music. So far so good. Also looks 16mm, I love 16mm. Every cult movie should be shot in it. Okay this is a long opening credits sequence. Get on with the show already. Okay so this older fat women lives in a crib for some reason and this fat women is her daughter. Now there's this really boring job interview going on. It is really dragging on. AWESOME! They are using some cool filthy language. I usually don't get to hear naughty language this colorful. Usually just the F-bomb over and over. Most of this movie so far has revolved around eggs.
Oh cool they are getting into a Cadillac Coup de ville. '50...'59 I think. Well, there is a dungeon now and this gay guy picks up this baby they call noodles. The gay guy gets in a slap fight with this woman. Yours truly is kind of bored. Cult movies usually have cool stuff going on by now. Like Forbidden Zone! Now that movie had all kinds of crazy stuff happening! Do you guys mind if I fastforward? I can't? Ok, I'll try this a little longer. They are playing 50's beebop so I guess I can take this. No I take it back, The Patriarch is just getting depressed now. Now there's a guy with blue hair and... he has a sausage tied to his penis. Oh this is wonderful. This is a great movie. Luckily I, as you know, have built up an immunity to the older bad movies. I still have to practice with the newer ones though.
Alright I've got to pick up my Nintendo DS and play it while I watch this because I don't want to waste all my time. You know what, I can actually smell this movie. And it smells like garbage. Week old garbage. I'm walking around killing people now. OH not in real life. I'm talking about in the video game I'm playing. On the movie...you are not going to believe this.
This ratty looking guy is having sex with a women and some chickens. You read that right. These are real live chickens and he is whipping them around and shoving them into the women's crotch. There is blood and feathers all over the place. The chicken is like squished now because he's having sex with it and shoving it into the woman. These are real chickens mind you.
Okay now there's this egg man and I guess we're back to the boring part. Well, even the chicken-sex scene was boring actually. Okay back to my game. Oh this is disgusting. This gross gay guy now is nude and is jacking off. And he is sick looking. A woman next to his just thrown up. And now there's some more sex. The guy with blue hair and a red head. Hey the women put on men's tighty-whities for some reason.
Hey everyone, nothing new has happened except for a lot of boring dialog. Okay so the fat women opens up this package and there is excrement in it. Yeah that's what this movie is. And I was eating Mike & Ikes at the time. Yuck. The gay guy is now dressed as the redhead and they are just blabbing on. I'm almost at the 1 hour point and there is nothing worth watching so far. I think this movie should be banned in all countries. The only problem is there are so many copies of it we'd never really get rid of it! You know, if there were at least some hot nude women, this movie would be worth be watching. But there is only disgusting nude women. And disgusting nude men too, I mean right now there is a disgusting nude man and he is doing things with his A-hole. I'm not kidding. Now at this same party they have killed some cops and are eating the flesh like in Night of the Living Dead. No, that was a good movie. This is just horrible.
I'm going to fastforward now, I'm sorry I've got better things to do. This just sucks. I finally saw what I thought was a hot nude woman only she lifted up her skirt and she had a penis. Who would make a movie like this and why? It had to be made by a gay guy. Okay now is the part where they lick the furniture. Now the women is going down on her son. Nothing new for this piece of garbage. They're burning down the mobile home now. And now there is a mock-trial taking place. I admit this is the only and I mean ONLY thing I have found entertaining about this movie. It's kind of funny I guess. I'm starting to get really happy, because the end is in sight. But the movie wouldn't be complete without a special goodbye. The fat women eats dog excrement. Right there on the screen. The movie is finally over. Oh what's this? John Waters! The disgusting man that made this movie and yes, he is gay. You can easily tell. Only a gay guy would make garbage like this. So I'm glad this movie is on DVD I want everyone to see the garbage that gay people make.
You know what. First, I'd like to apologize to my fans for reviewing this movie. I had no idea what I was getting into. But perhaps some of you were thinking of watching this movie. So in a way, I took the fall for you. Please never watch this movie.
Great, Classic movie..........2007-07-18
I've been meaning to purchase this DVD for a while now but never got around to it. Once I saw it on Amazon, I was able to purchase and have it at home within a week and a half.
The movie is absolutely hysterical and everything that is John Waters. Definately one of my all-time favorite movies but not for the faint of heart. If you can stand grotesque humor...this movie is for you!
One of the greatest movies ever made!!!.......2007-05-07
If you enjoy great movies, like Kane, Sound of Music, you're sure to enjoy this classic by Waters. A masterpiece of filth.
HOW I WISH I HADN'T SEEN THIS!.......2007-04-11
A WOMAN SCREAMING AS SHE'S BEING BRUTALLY RAPED WITH A LIVE CHICKEN BY A MANSONESQUE LUNATIC. HOW CAN ANYONE USE THE WORD "FUNNY" TO DESCRIBE THE TORTURE OF A POOR ANIMAL STRUGGLING IN VAIN TO FREE ITSELF BEFORE IT'S BEATEN TO DEATH? POLYESTER WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES. I DON'T THINK I CAN HANDLE WATCHING IT, OR ANYTHING ELSE BY WATERS AGAIN.
Cotton! Cotton! Tell me about the egg man!.......2007-04-11
Not my favorite of John H2o's films but has some great one liners; "Babs Johnson? Sounds like a monkey on a tire swing!" Cuddles and the eggman...classic!
