From a pure-pleasure standpoint, the first Beethoven's Wig was nothing to flip over, and the second disc in the series follows suit. However, that is not to say that this is not a valuable and possibly ingenious record. Those unfamiliar with the premise will quickly get the picture: Producer/writer/lead singer/chief clever guy Richard Perlmutter gathers a bundle of important classical works (Paganini's "Violin Concerto #2," Strauss' "Blue Danube Waltz") and makes up silly, catchy lyrics to lay over them, informing the listener about the piece or its composer. Standing out for their offbeat brilliance this time are "Dvorak the Czechoslovak" ("Humoresque #7," Dvorak) and "Wow What a Wedding Cake" (Wedding March from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Mendelssohn). Few stabs at mixing education with entertainment succeed so well. As a bonus, the second half of the CD repeats the symphonies straight up, presenting a neat opportunity to quiz kids 5-12 on what and who they've just heard. --Tammy La Gorce

Almost as wonderful as the first.......2007-08-02

We bought Beethoven's Wig 1 and loved it. My kids (ages 5 and 9) really enjoy listening over and over. Number 2 is almost as good. All of the songs are amusing and a couple are very funny. The lyrics are clever and do help you become familiar with composers and their music. I like that the pieces are played again in the second half without the lyrics. I highly recommend it for kids who enjoy music.

Greatest baby gift ever.......2007-03-15

Both of my grandchildren (and their parents and grandparents) are hooked on this CD and all of the silliness and beauty it brings into our lives. We sing to it, dance to it, and find ourselves thinking about it at odd times. Who can't love singing Verdi VERY LOUD? I've now started giving this as a simple baby gift, especially to those with older siblings. They are already equipped with clothing and nursery gear, and Beethoven's Wig invites the whole family to gather round...even if it is just on short car rides.

My husband, 18 month old daughter and I all love this CD. It's a staple in the car. One caveat- these lyrics will get stuck in your head and I now find myself singing the "words" to these songs when I hear them in a store or commercial! I'm hoping this means my daughter will recognize these songs as she gets older.

Like the first volume, this CD encourages young children to enjoy classical music. The silly lyrics sometimes impart factual information on the composer or the piece. There are 11 sing-along symphonies and then the 11 symphonies are replayed without the lyrics--total of 22 tracks. Booklet with lyrics and trivia is included. All our children (aged 2-12) enjoy this CD, as do we.

My children loved Beethovens Wig 1. I checked this one out at the library. Then, we decided we had to have this one too.
Yes, one is the best but 2 is still wonderful.
Save yourself the shipping and order both at the same time.
We all thoroughly enjoy it. My 4 yr old can name these classicals when he hears them elsewhere and he can hum these beautiful songs. Much better than kiddie rhymes and Disney jingles. Culture your children the funniest way!!

This new version of the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack coincides with the movie's 30th anniversary (which is also celebrated by a special edition DVD). The CD is notable for several instrumental tracks by John Williams, as well as for "Any Day Now," a previously unreleased song performed by Perchik/Paul Michael Glaser (better known for his starring role in TV's Starsky and Hutch). The soundtrack is often compared unfavorably with the original 1964 cast album, in which Zero Mostel played the part of Tevye (here performed by Topol, who had been in the 1967 London production). But this CD has a lot going for it, including glossy remastering and, of course, Isaac Stern as the fiddler. In the end, whatever version you decide to pick up, Fiddler remains one of the most enduring musicals of all time. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I have other versions of CDs of "The Fiddler of the Roof" but Topol is the best and this is one of the best CDs with Topol. As far as "The Fiddler On the Roof" goes, that is a thumbs up 5 star anytime story and songs.

At first, I thought this musical was weird but then I grew to like it. It has a sad ending but the thems in the movie are really interesting. Life really is like being a fiddler on the roof. In a musical coming up at my school, I am playign the part of Grandmother Tzeitel in Tevye's dream. I am excited to play the part and I think our musical will go very well!

The music from Fiddler on the Roof is exciting, fun, interesting and funny! This CD is mixed with humor, music from different cultures and a wide mix of different songs. Each song is so different that I can listen to it for hours. I was surprised how enjoyable and pleasent it really is. Although...it is easy to get this music stuck in your head!

Monsoon Wedding is Mychael Danna's second collaboration with film director Mira Nair, (Kama Sutra was the first), and he has again compiled a winning soundtrack. Danna explores a wide range of emotions, from solemn to celebratory, through different generations of Indian culture. The contemplative "Good Indian Girls" and "Hold Me, I'm Falling" feature Danna's trademark piano ambience over traditional Indian instrumentation, and the vivacious "Baraat" sounds like a Punjabi variation on Dixieland, while "Delhi.com" ventures into dreamy ethno-techno territory. Sukhwinder Singh's "Today My Heart Desires" serves up lively bhangra rock, and Laxmikant Pyarelal's "Today the Weather Plays Tricks on Me" (performed by Mohammed Rafi) swoons with strings and male vocals. I just saw the movie MONSOON WEDDING and I absolutely loved it! Of course, I just HAD to have the soundtrack, so I bought the Cd recently and loved it too! WOW!

The Cd will leave you in a happy mood... Wonderful up-beat songs, many are so danceable and hipnotic. I've been playing this Cd all week ...I just wish it were longer because I would love to have more Cds like this in my Cd collection.

This is an excellent soundtrack from an excellent movie. The music is fantastic - makes you want get up and move your feet! It's got such a happy, wistful, exotic flavor throughout the CD. I think this will probably be one that I wear out from listening to it so much!

I just love this CD. I'm preferential to the work of Mychael Danna and this is another awesome work of his. There is everything from old Indian love ballads to the popular Bollywood music of today, with some very beautiful instrumentals in between.

I'd recommend seeing the movie too. As well, I'd check out Danna's music for another Mira Nair movie, "Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love."

Above I listed some words that first came to mind when I thought about this cd.
It is very Culture rich and soaked in Indian flavor. It's colorful and makes you happy with a laugh or two; as it seeks to portray the traditional music typical of a Punjabi wedding in Delhi, India.
You want to dance with most songs and sit quietly to reflect with others. I listed appreciate because we often don't sit back to appreciate the richness that other cultures provide. My 2 year old appreciates this music in her broken wanna be Hindi mimic.
She dances as does my 6 year old to this music. It's really a great CD but I would recommend seeing the movie first.

For those who want the most remembered passages of classical music's best-loved works, here's a package for you. On this bargain priced double-CD, you'll find music from 40 different classical composers; for the most part, the recordings excerpted here are some of the very best. Of course, you only get one Bach sampling (Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, played by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra) and one Mozart (A Little Night Music conducted by Herbert von Karajan), but this is still a nice collection--perhaps the starting point for a budding collection of classical music. This set's downfall? Unfortunately, though the liner notes discuss the evolution of classical music chronologically, the tracks are programmed in alphabetical order by composer's last name. This makes for some startling transitions! Emil Gilels's reflective performance of the Adagio from Beethoven's "Moonlight" sonata is followed by the crashing cymbals and bombast of Carmen's "March of the Toreadors," a recipe for a heart attack if there ever was one. Still, there's something here for everyone and the liner notes even explain what movies this music can be found in. A nice touch. --Jason Verlinde

Watch out for the volume leveling mentioned in another review. Surely the compliers could have come up with a better sort order than by composer. The change in tempo/volume between pieces makes it impossible to enjoy. My two CD's ended up in the trash.

This is a great CD full of many songs that you will recognize and enjoy. If you are someone who likes classical music but doesn't necessarily know which songs or which composers you like, then this CD is for you. You will likely recognize many of the songs as the classical songs you would have picked out to be your favorites.

If you like classical music don't buy this CD........2005-03-11

Most of the tracks were chopped down to 3-4 minutes so some of the best parts of the compositions are missing. I don't know what I was thinking trying to buy 40 classical songs on two CD's. If you really want to enjoy the music you would do better to purchase a CD with fewer, but better quality tracks.

A must for anyone wanting the staples of classical music.......2005-02-23

In my years of experience teaching Fine Arts to high school students, I know that the majority, if not all, of the music included on this album is commonly used in collge music appreciation courses. This is an excellent sample of truly all the "greatest hits" of classical music. My students enjoy listening to the music and have later told me when take their required music apreciation courses in college that they "already know it all" because of this CD! The recordings are clear, the selections are passionate, and the listener will gain a familiarity with all of the most commonly heard classical music used in tv commercials, movies, etc.
I recommend this album, along with the boxed set, "Age of the Classics" for anyone who is interested in becoming familiar with the most famous staples of classical music.

A great compilation.......2005-02-09

This cd somes up some of the greatest pieces of instrumental (and is some cases choral) music ever written. It is a great starter for a beginning classical music lover or a quick and easy all-in-one for those of us who study classical music for a living. I highly recommend this cd to anyone who wants to love or already does love classical music.

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

A great collection of klezmer favorites!.......2006-09-30

Premiere violinist Itzhak Perlman is joined live in concert by four premiere klezmer groups: Brave Old World, The Klezmatics, Andy Statman, and the Klezmer Conservatory Band. Vibrant, poignant and distinctly old-world, klezmer is the musical style that developed among Eastern European Jews. Featuring the soulful fire of violin, clarinet, accordion, mandolin and vocal leads, accompanied by cimbalom (a hammered-dulcimer), piano, drums. There are a few soulful slow tunes mixed in amongst the fiery dances, but most of the selections on "Live in the Fiddler's House" are fun and up tempo, full of the instrumental virtuosity one would expect both of this genre, and of a concert violinist of Itzhak Perlman caliber. Klezmer is some of the world's best good-time music, right up there with Irish jigs, Cajun two-steps and country banjo pickin'. But it's not all sweetness and light; inherent in the mournful, minor mode of this traditional music is blend of opposites--both the sorrow of persecution and defiant sense of fun-in-the-moment inherent of a culture displaced, trying to maintain its identity in an ever-changing and often hostile world. And therein lies klezmer's appeal to the soul. For more great Jewish music, try any of the separate releases by Brave Old World, The Klezmatics, Andy Statman and his band, and the Klezmer Conservatory Band. You might also enjoy "The Hidden Gate: Jewish Music Around the World," the traditional Sephardic music of the group Voice of the Turtle, and the unplugged world fusion of Basya Schechter and Pharoah's Daughter in "Out of the Reeds."

Best Klezmer album.......2004-11-16

To me, this is the best klezmer album I've ever listened to (and I have quite a few). And it's a live album. Although it's a kind of live version of "In the Fiddler's House", the repertoire is not the same (they only share one or two songs). The bands accompanying Itzhak Perlman are at their best (they are the best klezmer performers!). I prefer, personally, Andy Statman's clarinet and mandolin (Andy's Ride and Meron Nign/In the Sukke are my favorites); then there are great moments with Brave Old World (Doina Naftule and A Hora mit Branfn are beautiful pieces) and the Klezmatics, of course. The 12 minute finale is an absolute well crafted medley, under Klezmer Conservatory Band's leader, Hankus Netsky. I did'n want it to end.
I don't like at all the women voices of Klezmer Conservatory Band, although the instrumental pieces (like Khosidl) are amazing.
There is not a second in this album which is not top klezmer.

For people who are into Klezmer music this is the finest C.D.! For Klezmer music lovers, this is a masterpiece.

This is a great set of recordings for the money, the only problem was I've had to clean some of the CD's before they played correctly.

This set is a good way to start listening to classical music. It's very well produced and easy to listen to. I purchased it to use as part of my world history high school class. It would have been nice to have some bio information on the composers. However, the product is exactly as advertised and good value for the money. The students were intrigued by how many of the excerpts they had heard before.

Some little gems there that I had forgotten!.......2007-03-30

Although I studied classical music at school, I had all but forgotten it until I bought this set. I heard several tracks I haven't heard for over 30 years, and I had been humming Brahms's 'Hungarian Dance no. 5' for years without ever knowing what it was and it was on the disc, so that was nice.

I found it to be a very good selection overall, but I felt too much had already been heard on TV, which of course is what lots of newcomers to classical music might appreciate. I managed to find about 2 hours of tracks that I wanted to keep, which works out quite expensive per disc, but I did find some wonderful music I had completely forgotten about, so it was worth it. All in all, it represents good value, and I have only knocked one star off as so much of it had been used in adverts.

It is definitely a good introduction to classical music, and it has made me want to listen to more of it, so I don't regret this 'expensive' purchase one bit!

Classical Masterpieces of the Millennium [20 CD Set]

I define this set as an excellent way to find out who you like, and who you don't, among 20 of the important composers. It opens the door to purchasing more complete pieces by composers you do like, and can save a lot of time and money in the process.
To criticize the set for not containing more composers, or more than just snippets of those who are in the set, is missing the point: it is a helpful introduction to finding your way in the huge maze of classical music. It succeeds admirably in this.
Sound quality is uniformly very good on an audiophile system.
Highly recommended.

A great way to start a classical music collection. It's nice to have a full CD of each composer. It makes it easy to keep track of selections/composers I already have and what composers I still need to puchase to complete my collection.

CD set is misnamed.......2007-06-08

They should have titled this "classical music for people who love classical music" because most of the selections are typical classical music. The title suggests it would be lively selections of "light classical" music that is more upbeat, i.e. Sabre Dance, etc. I really don't hate classical music at all and have many classical CDs in my collection but I really wanted to hear more exciting selections. I won't be purchasing any more of this set but if you like traditional classical music these are good one.

I do know it says classical music for people who hate it, but serioulsly you would have better luck never listening to classical music again. The recordings are awfull and do not do justice to any of the composers. Buy something else.

We love this set of CD's. I just got a new copy because my kids keeping taking our first copy with them so that they can listen at work or in their bedrooms but then I can never find them.

Seek better versions.......2006-12-09

If you are fairly new to classical purchases then compilation CD's can be useful for deciding what to buy next. Sometimes you only need a small taste of a piece to inspire you to buy a release with the whole performance on. The problem with this compilation however is that most of the versions are poor in performance or recording quality (or both) when compared to the best versions and the fact that the conductors aren't even credited on the track listing made me suspect that this would be the case. One of my favorite classical pieces is Tchaikovsky's 1812 festival overture but if the first CD version I had heard had been the finale excerpt that is on this compilation I may not have gone on to buy the whole thing. Luckily I heard Adrian Leaper's version first and Adrian's version is rather good.
My classical CD buying experience is limited to only a couple of dozen discs but I have found that the Naxos and Deutshe Grammophon releases are fairly safe. Avoid any release which does not name the conductors on the track listing or sleeve notes.

It Is What It Is.......2006-10-27

It's fitting that this page is fraught with the same kind of silly snobbery that turns people off from classical music (and necessitates collections like this) in the first place.

Any criticism of this compilation, which focuses on the quality of the performances or the fact that many tracks are excerpts, misses the point. This is not a collection for people who consider such things, nor does it purport to be. The idea is to package as many ultra-famous classical melodies as possible in one affordable collection and market it to people who have never purchased a classical recording. As such, top-tier performances are likely too expensive to be sold so cheaply and are unnecessary anyway. Those of us who already know and love a piece or two can forgive the compilers the inclusion of sub-par recordings, when we are exposed to so many other beautiful pieces for the first time.

It probably comes as a shock for some to hear that most people are not familiar with these classics. We may hear snippets on TV or movies, but are left with no idea as to the composer or historical context. With that in mind, it is extremely intimidating to begin buying classical. I suppose those among us, who so thoroughly dismissed the very notion of a boxed set like this, would have us begin by buying full albums by reputable interpreters. Surprisingly enough though, the majority of people would consider that a tad cost-prohibitive.

To conclude, this is a STARTER collection. It will either affirm a listener's feelings about classical music or lead to an interest in purchasing better recordings. Ideally, I suppose the interpretations would be better, but, for reasons mentioned above, that just isn't in the cards for a collection of this nature. If you're familiar with 50 different recordings of "The Ring" series, or have season tickets to the New York Philharmonic, then this probably isn't for you. For us cretins with limited foreknowledge of classical music though, it serves as a succinct introduction with little to complain about.

The VERY BEST Italian wedding CD available.......2007-02-23

I can't tell you how much money we spent buying every CD with ITALIAN WEDDING in its title. As first generation Italian Americans, we wanted to salute our heritage at our daughter's wedding. One of the last CDs we bought was this one, from a relatively unknown band, but it saved the day. The music, fresh and original, live arrangements of all the songs we wanted, was a huge hit. The "How To Plan an Italian Wedding" booklet in the CD helped us so very much. . .Roman Holiday could sell that alone for the price of the CD...but you get both! Anyone who wants lively, fun Italian party music can't go wrong with this CD either...it's great for any fun Italian party or birthday, annivesary, whatever. Anyway, we thought this is the best Italian CD we've bought in a long time and I just wanted to tell the world about it. There is so much recycled stuff out there that bores you to tears, but this is the best in our humble opinion.

GRAZIE A DIO for this CD! We are an Italian American family with roots in Southern Italy and Sicily. The songs are beautifully performed and are lively and moving at the same time.

The booklet was an added bonus that helped us with the reception. The author wrote about all the old traditions we remembered as kids growing up in the Italian community. All we had to do is hand the book to the wedding planner, and she knew what we wanted.

We bought all sorts of "Italian Wedding" CDs before we found this one, and this one was by far the WINNER. Okay, it was not the cheapest out there, but you really get what you pay for! Wish we could have saved the money we wasted on all the inferior ones, but we found out about this one only because a DJ friend recommended it.

Can highly recommend to anyone planning an Italian wedding, or any other Italian themed event. It would work for so many happy occasions.

We feel we needed to add our comments, as we enjoyed it so much and wanted to spread the word among our cumpahs. We like the fact this musical group took the old songs and gave them new life.

Being born and raised in America with Italian parents,this cd was not for me. If I had known that some nobody was singing these great songs I would have never bought it. Where are Connie Francis, Loui Primo, Dean Martin, Rosemary Clooney, Jerry Vale? These songs where butchered by these people who can't sing! I won't embaress my family by playing this at my wedding.

I am a non-Italian trying to plan an Italian themed wedding. This CD was the BEST first step for me. I received the CD many months ago and have been referring to it ever since. Besides GREAT songs, they offer a description of what dance/tradition takes place during each song. My wedding is only two weeks away and I am still refering back to this CD. It has been a true inspiration!!

With the appearance of fashion-oriented acts like Adam Ant, Culture Club, and Duran Duran, the early '80s gave birth to an emerging genre called "new romantic." Appealing to a young, mostly female audience, the Duran gang--named after a character in the kitschy, futuristic Jane Fonda movie Barbarella--helped move U.K. music away from punk and back towards the early-'70s sound of groups like Roxy Music and T. Rex. Fronted by singer Simon LeBon, and anchored by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and guitarist John Taylor, the band made quite a splash with this 1981 debut via the British hits "Planet Earth" and "Girls on Film," whose pornlike video was banned by the BBC, thus helping the band's notoriety. --Billy Altman

A Comeback of Sorts.......2007-01-19

From the mid-80s onward, Duran Duran began to decline. By the onset of the 1990s, the salad days of the Rio-era were a fading memory. Albums like "Big Thing" and "Liberty" had seen the band floundering with bland new rhythms and with mediocre songwriting. "Duran Duran (II)", aka, "The Wedding Album," brought the band back to the limelight with two marvellous hit singles. But does the rest of the album hold up as well?

We begin with the rather heavy "Too Much Information," a track that marriers then-contemporary grungyness with cynicism towards the media. It's a solid starter, albeit a bit too much of a distorted departure from the Duran Duran sound that 80s fans were familiar with.

The hit single "Ordinary World" follow, and with its fabulous guitar work and socially aware lyrics, it remains a timeless gem; trully one of the highlights of Duran Duran's canon.

"Drowning Man," which melds an odd vocal cadence to effect-laden guitar work, is the third track on the album. Some hate it; I find it rather enjoyable. It's different, and it works.

"Shotgun" is crap, pure and simple. It's about 40 second of whistles and drum machines that amount to absolutely nothing.

"Come Undone," the other classic, melds a trip-hop rhythm and soul back-up vocals to a more refined Duran Duran sound. It's yet another welcome addition to the canon.

And after that, it all sounds the same. Aside from the Brazilian-tinged "Breath After Breath" and the annoying stab at Price ("UMF"), all of the songs have identical production values. This homegenized delivery, coupled with uninspired vocals, make for a huge let-down. Even the Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale" is not immune to this process.

To say that this album is top-heavy is an understatement. The bulk of the substance is at the beggining of the album. The rest is cookie-cutter filler. But still... that first half is worth 5 stars. The rest, though, bogs down what could've been a great EP. Or just a better album.

Class Act.......2006-12-12

I agree with the reviewer calling "Ordinary World" a dreamy, soaring ballad. This entire CD is a class act and one of my favorites. I never get tired of it!

Hollow and Empty.......2006-11-12

While the previous album, Liberty, had some weak tracks, it had a few things going for it. First, it was a real concise album. The songs fit well together. Next, the members created the feeling of a Duran Duran album. I would almost term it the anti-Rio, with dark, soulful, and sensual undertones. Gone was the 1980s feel of earlier works, yet the album presented chemistry with danceable tracks and a solid commitment to creating an overall frantic listening experience (either positive or negative). With the exception of My Antarctica and Serious as great tracks, they ultimately failed to win many new fans. But eventually, most artists fail at some point. Yet they could still call Liberty a Duran Duran album because they stood for something and tried their heart out. In short, they were authentic in their failure.

Unfortunately, with the Wedding Album, they did the total opposite. With the commercial disappointment of Liberty and losing Sterling Campbell as drummer, the four members set out to create a new sound for the 1990s. While there is nothing wrong with inventing a new sound and image, the Wedding Album became a mere vehicle to capture fan nostalgia and make some quick sales with two great singles, Ordinary World, and Come Undone. Anyone who bought the album, however, found an incoherent mess of songs copying styles from other artists. Here was a band that stood for something in its heyday, now cheaply attempting to blend in with other popular artists of the time to sell some singles. While it worked for that album, notice that they could not sustain that momentum for over ten years until the band returned to its true form with Astronaut. Nick Rhodes recently commented that while the 80's were about artists expressing themselves, the 90's were about blending in. Unfortunately, that is exactly what Duran Duran did, denying their own creativity and greatness at the core. The results were mediocre and hollow. By standing for nothing, the members created an "Ordinary World" in the album's undertones. Regardless of markets, times, pressures, and sales, would you ever define Duran Duran as ordinary? Not me!

LeBon was also having substantial vocal problems during this time. As a result, many of the vocals sounded thin, strained, and turned down. None of the Above, as well as a few other tracks, overuses a processor. It is as if a machine sung the songs, not Simon the Great. This may have been a time when the rock star lifestyle and smoking was wearing thin on him. But to the listener, it sounds like he wasn't really trying. After all, if mediocrity is the goal in the 90s, then who cares how it sounds?

To end on a positive note, the band are writing and sounding better than ever today. Simon now looks half his age on the Wedding Album and sings better than ever. Even with the recent loss of Andy Taylor, the band are touring and recording, remaining true to the music, and handling market pressures with a seasoned grace and style. They are also gaining the critical recognition they have deserved for so long. I will close by stating that if the Wedding Album is the only thing that kept this band together continuously throughout the years, then I will gladly alter my rating to five stars in a heartbeat. But don't do it again!

Absolutely amazing!.......2006-07-29

Duran Duran's big comeback album. The rock-oriented Duran Duran 2! Amazing. "Too Much Information" is a great punk song. "Ordinary World" is a great ballad, and one of the best songs ever written...ever! "Come Undone" is interesting, as is "Breath after Breath." Warren Cuccurullo proves that he really is a master guitarist. Buy this album!

Time to Say 'I Do'.......2006-05-29

This album was a total surprise for me. After the disappointment of 'Liberty', I expected much of the same. But no, this album really 'kicks'. Unlike all Duran albums since RIO, which are full of fillers, this album has 11 good tracks and only 2 that are disappointing (Drowning Man & Shotgun). We all know the big hits 'Ordinary World' and 'Come Undone', but this album also contains other gems...The Milton Nascimento collaboration, "Breath After Breath'' is fantastic and as good as anything that the Duran's have ever done....A real good album that stands the test of time and you can pick it up at a bargain price !!
