India Arie seems comfortable in her own body. She told us as much on both "Video" and "Brown Skin" from her stunning debut album, Acoustic Soul, which celebrated the diversity of feminine beauty, self-acceptance, and spirituality. She addresses similar themes on her second outing, although much of her original soul-scouring fire is gone. While she still preaches self-empowerment, many of her lyrics veer toward the trite, and that's not where we expected to go on this Voyage to India. In fact, there are very few self-revelatory moments like the ones on Soul. Arie seems bent on journeying to the center of womankind's mind, rather than unearthing more of her own autobiography, casting herself as adviser to the disempowered. But that is not where Arie shines. When she strips her voice down to its unvarnished essence--leaving all the imperfections in the mix--she is a lithe, ethereal presence. She's capable of raising chills, as when she sings of a man who foretells his death on "Good Man." Or on "Complicated Man," where she lets her voice run ragged, brimming with raw emotion while describing her imperfect love. Look, as a lover of music I began to give up on music because of the same old topics being sang over and over, how may times can you say I miss you or don't leave me or sex me!!!. India Arie helps to save music for me, she has alot of new topics like 2. little things 3. talk to her 4. Slow down, to name a few. Every song, I mean every song is good !!!!
Please note.. I am not the best reviewer in the world and what I say may or may not help you but, I know good music...so if you like India, check out Raul Midon's State Of Mind...he also sings about positive thing and love...I gess if you know of India you know of Donnie's The Colored Section...if not check him out also.

This question is asked at times..who is your fovorate singer and I never had an answer because I did not fell any artist earned my vote, as they come out with one or two albums, the first one is good then they go down hill (or more importantly, she has her own style of song writing)... but with India, she gets better...making her a real artist.......you see for example when India Arie wins say a Grammy and she says.. I would like to thank God..he says....Your Welcome, with some of these so called artist say.. I would like to thank God..he says...What You Thanking Me For, I did not help you with that s..t..(oops forgive myslef)...you came up with.

This album really surpriced me coming from a secular artist. I admire the soul connectin that is clearly felt in her music. I liked this CD so much that I gave it to a teenage female friend of mine. It's a coming of age CD with wisdom written all over it and I know she'll appreciate it. Its the(older) women teaching the younger women. I appreciate her wisdom and boldness to speak it!

We project ourselves through every moment of time and space whether it is through sounds, thoughts, or feelings. The gift of every human being is to truly express the soul through the intelligence of the mind and body. In order to project the reality of the honest self, the soul, Yogi Bhajan has taught the science of Naad Yoga. Naad means sound current. It is the primal sound that connects the basic elements of the physical body to the etheric elements of the soul. Naad Yoga uses sacred mantras from the writings of the Sikh Gurus in the beautiful poetic language of Gurumukhi. These mantras are traditionally practiced with a straight spine, in a meditative posture. As the mantras are sung the energy of the sound current creates a channel of healing energy through the spinal chord and out the top of the head. In yogic practice we call this the turning of the lotus. Through Naad Yoga the Kundalini energy rises from the base of the spine to the top of the head. At this time the lo! tus flower turns upside down and rains nectar down upon the yogi. In spiritual terms the sweetness of angels caresses each and every cell.

Often times people tell me, " I don't have a good voice, I can't sing." I tell them that the very sound of your voice is what will heal you if you just allow it to be you. By practicing Naad Yoga we can obtain the experience of heaven on earth in our own body. This experience will in turn bring light to the rest of your life simply by the natural flow of energy that you have created within yourself. Prem is my new album that is created so that anyone can take it, listen to it, chant with it, and be with it. It is called Prem because in the beautiful process of figuring out which mantras to do, creating the tunes, and bringing them to the studio it gave me a deep sense of self love and healing. This is my favorite music. For meditating with it is perfect: rythmic and evocative, peaceful and fulfilling on a very deep level. I just wish she would put out more albums like this.

Not my first choice.......2006-07-16

I did not like this CD as well as "Shanti" and "Grace." The production was much less rich, more simple. You may like that, but I did not find it as engaging or wide and spacious as the other two CDs I have. I do encourage you to give Kaur a try. Her music is inspiring.

This is one of my most beloved albums in my music collection. Through Snatam's voice one can feel the Love that hugs the entire universe. Every time I listen to it I am brought into a loving balance of calm and peace. Thank you Snatam for delivering to us such beautiful music. This and her other albums I highly recommend.

Each track seems mellow and flowing. The instrumentals are just the right touch for Snatum's melodic voice. Her peaceful rhthyms make this CD a hit.

So many people scoff at Disco Music of the 70's (an anti-Christ of sorts to Rock music lovers) that it takes guts to admit that there were actually very decent singers, groups and composers around those days. The French Group Voyage comes to mind as one good example. Not that every song I hear on this CD is a gem, of course. But I still can't help enjoying the unpretentious upbeat quality of their catchier songs such as "Let's Fly Away" (I suspect that particular song has some suspicious parallels to Berlin's "There's No Business Like Show Business"), "Tahiti" and "Souvenirs". These songs are not only catchy, but sometimes carry complex and even daring harmonies. Granted, this CD brings back a lot of good memories. But since I studied music, I believe I can be fairly objective in saying that Voyage had some good stuff to offer.

Disco Beat, of course, BUT...........2005-03-30

I really bought this for only one song, "Tahiti, Tahiti". I'm making my music collection and recollected this song many years ago. I called up several radio stations after I could not find this song on MusicMatch, Connect, or Tower Records.

One disc jockey remembered the tune I hummed to him and he mentioned the group's name. I took it from there. After ascertaining this was the song (30 second sample) I remembered, I bought it from Amazon!

This song has the wonderful harmony of Polynesians when they sing in groups, such as in Samoa. Slightly raucous, definitely mellifluous, and ultimately joyful! So Polynesian, so happy! If this song can't put a smile in your spirit, I don't know what will.

These tracks take me back to 1978. I remember the DJ at Januaries in White Plain, NY blasting the finale of "From East to West". We would leave the club and our ears would be ringing. My favorite track is "Lady America" which got years of club play in NY. Definitely one of the "best of" collections.

this music souvenirs should be used as a movie scene, not just bringing back old memories, but old items that used to be thrown away. Maybe they should bring back what is old and made anew.

Disco goes on holiday.......2007-01-03

This is a fine concept album that takes your imagination on a bit of a journey away from the usual disco themes centered around the dancefloor, shaking your thing and being in/out of love. Musically it blends a few "exotic" influences that make it a little more diverse sounding than your average disco themed LP. The last song on the first side with the "tahiti style" disco number is the most obvious example. However it remains firmly "disco" in spirit suggesting good times and an escape from the everyday. I listen to a lot of electronic/dance music and I am quite entertained by it whenever I put it on.

Great album but beware of CD releases........2005-02-20

This is a great album but beware of the CD releases. I ordered two from two separate distributors and both CD's have lots of errors meaning silent breaks that don't belong there. They are Hot Productions releases not bootlegs. I am hoping that it was just a bad batch and that there are good copies out there. It would be a shame to have such a great classic album release destroyed by "poor management" Thanks Hot Productions.

a real nice cd of this group, but the one was sent to me is a home made cd, the 4 songs of side a and the 3 ones of side b in the original lp were blended, and this edition has all the songs separated, as if it were recorded in track at once mode, moreover, the print of the disc itself doesn't look original, looks as if it was printed with a thermal printer, instead of silkscreening method. and guess what the cd is a cdr one not a pressed one .
too bad HOT PRODUCTIONS is making this kind of things
however the sound quality is real good

Hard-Core Leather-Bar Disco-Action.......2003-07-15

If listening to this album doesn't make you break out in a hot sweat, and suddenly smell a dirty carpet reeking of spilled beer, leather soaked in perspiration, and empty popper vials in a filthy restroom, then you probably missed out completely on the party scene described by Randy Shilts in his book "And The Band Played On" in the "Before and After" section.

Oh it holds up well. If you can't enjoy this, you're probably lame in the sack, too. Frothy, danceable, upbeat, nice separation, totally commercial late 70s dance music. Some of us had no problem putting this on after the Sex Pistols, then switching back to Television. It's all good. This was a fun moment.

VOYAGE - From East to West cut.......2004-06-26

My husband was a DJ in my disco back in 1980 and he would always start the night out with this song.......it really got everyone up on the floor, happy and dancing! Hence, it became "our song" to this day. Buy this and enjoy it, and each other, long live disco!

CLASSIC!!!.......2004-05-08

Without a doubt, this is best disco-era album of all time. Up there with Musique, Gino Soccio, Donna Summer's Seasons of Love & the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Special thing about this release is it completely listenable from beginning to end - even today!!! You don't need platforms, polyester, Pierre Cardin Parfum or drink tickets at Studio 54 to enjoy this one!! Take a trip with Voyage!!

Disco Revisited.......2003-07-02

One of the best european disco albums ever put out, now available
on CD. All the songs are blended in like the original. This is
30 minutes of non stop boogieing. Your 40 to 45 year old friends
will remember this one well.

CHICAS...OH LAWD.......2007-06-09

I fell in love with Chicas at first sound. I love her version of Asford & Simpson's TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED so much that I would buy the cd even if it had five cuts of DISCO GREEN on it. Every time I play this cut I want to go and make a booty call. Her stong searing voice and raw emotopns make the hair stand up on the nape of your neck. Oh yeah... the rest of the cd aint to bad either (Nr. Green however needs to take his platform shoes and wide collar shirt out the door). The titile cut is a quiet storm classic. Just imagine having that cut on while having a soulfull dinner with Chicas accross the table from you. Well it's time to make that call. I highly reccommend this cd despite the DISCO KING, and his follow uo album EVERYBODY LOVES THE SUNSHINE is slammimg also. Ok good bye for now everyone....and good night CHICAS.

Mellow, funky sh** that stinks (in a good way).......2006-03-16

Roy Ayers is definatley one of the more sampled funksters of the 70's and his grooves can be found on countless modern hip-hop tracks. This is probably his best, or at least most consistent, album. All the tracks here are really funky, in a mellow, jazzy kind of way. Brother Green the disco king is a classic breakbeat and the other tracks on here really cook too. A perfect album for someone looking to be initiated into the funky world of Roy Ayers.

The Commercial Evolution of Ayers.......2003-04-08

Roy Ayers and his ever-expanding Ubiquity finally received noteable commercial success with this 1975 funk classic. Guest vocalist Chicas shines on Ashford & Simpson's mellow "Take All The Time You Need", while "down-home" lyrics are sung with gusto on "Spirit of The Doo Doo" and "Life Is Just A Moment". Tight arrangements complement Ayers powerful vibes on the title track, "Evolution" and "The Black Five", the three instrumentals on this album. "Brother Green (The Disco King)" is the weakest track on the album with its dumb lyrics (Do it brother/Do it brother/Do it brother/Do it/Brother Green/The Disco King...)and dated disco arrangement. Only the cool Arp string ensemble at the bridge saves this track from being a total waste.

Roy Ayers...an unsung Genius.......2002-08-26

I became full aware of Roy Ayers in the early 90's only to find out that I have been a fan of his music since the 70's (I'm 29, by the way). You can't like or love hip-hop or R&B without knowing some facet of his timeless work. Mystic Voyage is the ultimate "soother". He can be easily categorized in the same breath as a George Benson, Prince, or even a Stevie Wonder for that matter. Wherever you can find anything by Roy Ayers, check your couch for loose change and buy it!

The Spirit of Doo Doo Lives on ! ! !.......2000-09-25

Even in its hey day, there was something futuristic sounding about the space funk of this brilliant jazzmaster, and almost 20 years later you hear a whole new wave of groups keeping the sound alive... and it sounds as fresh as ever...take groups like Groove Collective for example.

This is a consistantly bumping album that is very typical of the late '70s Fantasty Jazz label sound, and the stuff Donald Byrd, The Blackbyrds and a lot of crossover Jazz artists were doing. Urban, Jazzy and amply danceable.

I have to say, I've had this particular copy of the CD for almost 6 years now... a rarity for me... all my CDs usually end up getting lent out and wind up MIA... but trust me... no one TOUCHES this one...the grooves are deep, engrossing and bumping... and there's so much to explore.

If you dig this CD, check out ... check out a Japanese pop group called ORIGINAL LOVE which picked up that Jazzy vibe and don't forget Gil Scott Heron's collaborations with Brian Jackson and Les McCann's electric stuff from the '70s! ! !

Get it now, ços life is just a moment... yeah yeah....

Very ennobling! The pivot of the album is "Fathoms," which features Connie playing the ten-foot sonic steel sculpture, which sounds like the roar of the universe. You will probably not hear such an all-encompassing sound work you over, ream you out, and massage every neuron. Once worn down, there's no escaping "Deep Mother" who works her raw sensuality and midwife-compassion through goddess-Connie's voice. The primordial vibes continue through the lizardy-firebreathing sounds of "Gabriel's Dragon." "Absolution," with its lead organ sound, is one of the most gorgeous such compositions you'll hear ... blissful music that would somehow strike a chord in your heart, something that stays with you and is re-awakened here. Two worlds of music.......2004-06-26

First I would like to say that I greatly admire Constance Demby's talent. However, if you are interested in buying her CDs, be aware that her music falls into two vastly different worlds. Novus Magnificat, Set Free, Aeterna, and Sanctum Sanctuorum are rich in harmony and very uplifting. Attunement, Spirit Trance, and Sacred Space Music are atonal and reminiscent of a waking nightmare. Unfortunately Amazon.com does not make much of her music available for listening so it is difficult for someone new to her music to be aware that the mood of her work varies greatly. I would love to have her compose more music along the lines of Set Free and Novus Magnificat.

Attunement is a true miracle... a live performance captured with a minumum of engineering and recorded in vivid, spectacular sound. Those expecting another Novus Magnificat or Aeterna need to open their ears to other vistas they may never have suspected existed. But in the lens of Demby's all-encompassing Camera Obscura, Attunement ranges from the raw, sensual cries of the Demby Earth Mother to the Bachian passages of organ and chorus. The textures are constantly changing, like the colors and fragrances of a secret garden. Funk CD Worth Your Hard Earned $..........2003-07-29

..I lived in Dayton when these guys were groovin' in the 70s-80s. They were part of a funk music explosion of top Funksters from the area wich included Slave, Sun, Heatwave, Ohio Players and Zapp. And Bootsy Collins and his brother were from Cincy.

These guys had a fabulous home coming with their Solar record mates in an awesome concert which included the Whispers, Dynasty and Shalamar. They Rocked The Hizzouse. Also they did a knock-out version of "Given in to Love" I know for sure, because I remember the call and response audience sing along. I can't remember too much else, 'cause by then my state, mental and physical had been altered....don't ask.

"Given in to Love" ain't on this CD, but two of their best slo jams, "I Need You" and "Say Yes" (which a phat dude below says may be the best slo jam of all time. I may have a tendency to agree with that..) are here. "Your Love is One the One" is here! And that "slide, slide, slippedy slide" classic everyone loves, the title track, the can't miss party starter "Fantastic Voyage"
is here.

This CD is, in a word, fantastic.

This CD and "Your Wish", are Lakeside's best efforts, and great funk albums from the early 1980's. Besides the title track, "Your Love is On the One" and "Eveready Man" will get any party movin'. (I'm surprised these aren't sampled regularly) You will NOT be disappointed with these jams!
