About the Artist
Known in parts of the Midwest as the Fishin Musician (he also ties his own flies), Joe Augustine's interest in flyfishing is second only to his love of playing piano. His musical ability went undiscovered until the age of 15, when he sat down at a piano in the music room of his high school and repeated what the student teacher there had just played. The teacher, realizing his aptitude for the instrument, encouraged him to take lessons.

This he did, studying for 2 years with Gene Rush, presently the director of the Jazz program at the University of Memphis. Gene greatly influenced Joes jazz playing and also directed him to classical instructor Dolores Fitzer, a former soloist at Carnegie Hall. Joe remained under Dolores tutelage throughout his college years at Youngstown State University. Although he earned his bachelors degree in business, Joe played 5-6 gigs a week while in college as well, never seeming to get enough time at the piano.

Upon graduation in 1971, Joe walked into the newly opened Avalon Resort in Warren, Ohio and has been playing there 6 nights a week ever since. Of his 25-year engagement Joe comments, Ive had to learn, play and understand all kinds of music. Painting that musical picture each night is a wonderful way to market new arrangements.

Joe has received professional acclaim over the years for his performances with local symphony orchestras and in 1987 The Ohio Arts Council selected him as an Ohio Artist On Tour. More recently, the Steinway Piano Company honored Joe by making him one of their designated Steinway Artists.

His economic yet expressive style allows any listener to feel involved in his music. The spirit of pleasing the listener is reflected in Joes recordings as well as his live performances. Constant practice in front of a live audience produces an artistic virtuosity that allows Joes arrangements to change and evolve through continual improvisation. His understanding of harmonic texture and musical color reveals an artist who is sensitive to the emotions evoked by a song and has a real desire to appeal to his audience.

This monster sized box set should satiate any Uriah Heep fan (lots of previously unreleased and alternate takes); and for those who've enjoyed whatever they've heard elswhere so far and really want to dive deep...this is the box to own.

I first got into UH back in 1971(they were very popular in the Denver, Colorado/ Wyoming area, along with Deep Purple, Kansas, Jethro Tull and Blue Oyster Cult. Heep were one band that remained steadfast to rock 'n roll for many a decade, and though there were line-up changes they remained consistant "quality" rockers.

The Uriah Heep sound changes somewhat from the mid 1970's 'Return to Fantasy' onward (disk 3-5), but the transition is'nt that radical (less Dark for sure) but for the most part they remain URIAH HEEP.

This box set (longbox format) has it all. With almost 8(!) hours of music over 6 disks (#6 is all previously unreleased live); extensive liner notes in a 58page booklet; and perhaps most important, the feeling that a great deal of thought went into 'Chapter & Verse''s conception, it is a great representation of the band's music.

The only thing missing from my box was a venue poster that the outside seal said was included...no big deal really. The only track I found to be missing and was surprised to see omitted from the tracklist was 'Rainbow Demon' from the 'Demons and Wizards' Lp...I suppose there's always something to quibble about in a box set so inclusive, but hey, the pre-Heep tracks are terrific and the sound quality throughout is perfect!

I agree with most of the other reviewers comments. My biggest issue is I did not get the 60 page booklet ! My dealer can't help
me and I like to know if anybody has the same problem. I will keep the box set despite this.

First thing, the track listing was changed at the last minute, so what is listed above is slightly off. The bonus live disc is NOT just from '79. One-third is, but the others are from various shows. A handful have been released on recent live albums of theirs. Two songs are live versions of "Equator" songs, one song is from "Acoustically Driven", a couple are from "The Magician's Birthday Party". That actually makes this set better. Also, on the "main" part of this set, the song 'Hold Your Head Up', from "Raging Silence" is not on here. There are no studio "Equator" songs, either, unlike what the above song list suggests. 'Heartache City', from that album, is not here at all. 'Woman Of The Night', from "Fallen Angel" is not here, except as one of the live '79 tracks on the last disc. None of this takes away from the quality of this release, as the rarities make up for it. This is basically an updated version of the out-of-print "Time Of Revelation" box set. This really is a BOX set, as Mick BOX chose the songs! UPDATE: THE TRACK LISTING ABOVE HAS BEEN CHANGED SINCE I REVIEWED THIS, AND IS NOW CORRECT!(1-9-06)

    because I have not listened to the whole CD. I just heard the song-- Asokan Farewell, and it blew me away.

    I don't know how the other songs will sound but if Ashokan Farewell is any indication of how Mr. Augustine plays the piano, I am sold. It was a very moving, passionate piece and I look forward to hearing more of his music.

    I'm sorry, Mr. Augustine, you butchered this beautiful music on your cd. This is sacred music and is supposta be played like it's romantic and the passionate music of our soul.

    On this cd the music was played with a hard cold sound. It is offensive to me that it couldn't have played with a softer touch. I have many cds of this nature that I enjoy listening to much more than this one.

    In good faith, I can not recommend this cd.

    If you like instrumentals you will love this, soulful and captivating music this is, i would reccomend this to anyone who loves to chill to some keys, fans of dwele, nicolay, Omar (UK's finest) will love this. Lorenzo works hard from teaching music to working with troubled teenagers, he's a workaholik who deserves to get more fans of his sound. Check out his duties on the next L.B's and Foreign Exchange albums. Zo! if you get to read this WHERE'S THE LARGE T SHIRTS???

      Again i say buy this album, strictly chilled out music 4 mature music lovers, bass and keys never sounded so lush. ZO! will blow up in about 3/4 yrs so hop on board and support real talent now, check out his production duties on PPP's debut plus. So good foreign Exchange and Little Brother have gotten Lorenzo to lay some trks on there up and coming albums. Don't sleep.

      I know I'm a little late to the game, here, but hey - I'm in Philly, and as this crew is pretty New England-based - it took a little longer ... but the wait was worth it. I goes back a ways (went to college with Rachel where the idea of her being a rock star would have been met with a "what?" kind of reaction ... but she did) and I remember catching earlier performances - when they first started in the lower floor of Coco's ... and let me tell you ... they've come a long way, baby! What a great sound! lively, catchy, fun! They have energy, and skill, nice strong voices - the whole package - but without pretension. They each share the "limelight" nicely singing together as opposed to one singing "over" the other. I like all of the songs, personal favorites would be "Don't Cry" and "Anything." I wish they'd get down here to the city of brotherly love! They'd do ju-u-u-ust fine! For Philly folks - If you like June Rich - you would love Chapter in Verse. Buy the album. You'll be glad you did ... Rachel, my friend ... if they could see you now!

      I really loved this CD. The lyrics are moving and the melodies are upbeat and fun. I saw Chapter in Verse live and they rocked. Breanda and Rachel are a blast to watch. These guys are only beginning. Go check then out and get this album! You'll love.

      I was in Portsmouth about a month ago and saw them live, they were and are terrific. I bought the CD right then and loved every track. I've since bought a couple for friends. "Chapter In Verse" is definately on their way up....I would recommend the CD as a must for any new artists.

      I was just browsing in Tower Records recently, and the cover caught my eye. It was the top seller and had gotten great reviews so I bought it - now it's my favorite CD.
