Best of Nakia.......2007-06-02
Another brilliant & other-worldly music by Nakai.
Best of Native American Music, especially on the flute.
Great for classroom use!.......2005-07-25
The calming, peaceful sounds of the Native American flute are perfect for use in the classroom! My high school students don't know what to think of it at first, but after a while, they begin to develop an appreciation for it. The soothing music helps them relax and focus their minds. I have several Nakai CDs and I play a different one everyday. This CD is an excellent addition to my collection!
THE ESSENCE OF DREAMS.......2002-04-28
By far, Nakai's best recording. This is the most haunting and beautiful CD I own. Wonderful for meditation, painting, relaxing, or drifting off to sleep. What dreams this man conjures. This far surpasses anything in the often incoherent genre of New Age Music and should not be classified as such. Nakai is in a realm all his own.
On the rare occasion this CD leaves the player beside my bed, it's usually in the player in my painting studio.

Melodies that you carry with you.......2001-02-17
Nakai produces a romantic, healing, while vaguely haunting music that gently transports you back to a time when music was more than just entertainment. Nakai emulates the traditional music of his Navajo-Ute in a way that is both touching and mystic. Be prepared to be taken on a journey where you will be introduced to the feelings an impressions that Nakai himself experiences. He will show you through his music what the world around his means to him, and he will instill that awe of life in you.
Nakai doesn't fall into the trap of giving the musical tourist exactly what he expects. There is no chanting or jingling bells, no corny sound effects or war cries. Instead he simply taps into that inner peace that we all look for. Perhaps that's the reason so many people have come to appreciate his music. The universal understanding of, and need for, peace and insight.
love this CD.......2000-07-01
This is by far one of my favorites CDs. Carlos Nakai and William Eaton blend so well together on Native American flute and guitar - both are masters of their instruments. It's mellow enough for meditation but interesting enough to listen to with earphones and get into the flow, the rhythm and the harmonies of the music. The only problem I have with this CD is - my dog reacts to the flute playing - gets "a little freaked out" so I can't play it around her. She might think it's the coyotes that we sometimes hear around here in central NC. Anyhow, this is one CD that I could never get tired of listening to.

Average.......2007-02-07
I really cannot see how one could *possibly* compare the Gundechas (or others such as Bhawalkar) to any of the Dagar brothers. Nobody can capture the intricacies of the timeless art of Dhrupad better than the Dagars.
Not a 5 star and not 1 either.......2005-03-20
Gundechas are the famous students of the famous Dagar family of musicians from India. They obviously have had wonderful training. But like the Yeller says, something seems to be missing in their singing - that is the layers of subtleties and complexities that you find when you listen to old masters such as Rahimuddin Dagar or the Moinuddin Dagar. I don't see how Sharma can say that Gundechas bring out the art better then the masters. They are nowhere near the Dagar singers (I exclude the younger Dagar Brothers - Faiyazuddin and Zahiruddin though - they were quite pedestrian singers). Overall, if you want to hear divine dhrupad, listen to the music of the elder Dagar brothers, Rahimuddin Dagar, Fahimuddin Dagar, and Fariduddin Dagar.
Excellent music.......2004-04-14
The Gundecha Brothers have brought out the real art of Dhrupad in the CD, which perhaps is lacking in many of their seniors.
The other review that I read is surely by a person who doesn,t know anything about Dhrupad. Such useless reviews only add to words. The soultouching Charukeshi has such a stature which can rarely be achieved by anyone. Discouragement to the critisizing review and three cheers for the perfection of Dhrupad.
Good voice and technique, no soul in singing.......2003-08-31
Dhrupad is a very devotional music. I have heard recordings of some master singers and have been struck by the feelings they evoke. In this album, the artists have very good control over their voices but somehow there is no beauty or feeling in their singing. I wonder what is lacking in these artists that makes even a profound musical form seem shallow???
