Editorial Reviews
Susanne Rubenstein, September 2002
... Alicia Bessette possesses the sensibility of a poet, and she has never lost the wonder of a child.
Product Description
RESERVOIR is the first recording of original piano solos by Alicia Bessette.
Bessette's piano disregards fads, unifies genres, and dives into inner landscapes of memory and fantasy. The resulting sounds are alluring, evocative, and true to their source. With its ethereal melodies, RESERVOIR could be the soundtrack to a fall day in New England. Each track wraps the listener up in its own story, capturing singular moments, such as snow melting, or the thought that crosses your mind before you blow out candles, or the act of sitting in a parked car, listening to rain.
Bessette performs her own compositions under the Wachusett Records label, in collaboration with producer Benj Lipchak. Reservoir is published by Wekepeke Music (BMI).

While not as much of a commercial success as Quentin Tarantino's later film Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs is today regarded as a classic, although happily one that doesn't take itself too seriously. With its out-of-sequence narrative involving a diamond heist, its desperate characters expressing opinions on music and cinema, and the constant radio play (all the film's music is from source cues), Dogs remains shocking and exhilarating. Even stronger on the CD is the implication that the story is somehow being told by Steven Wright's deadpan '70s disc jockey. Tracks include "Little Green Bag" by the George Baker Selection, "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede, "I Gotcha" by Joe Tex, "Coconut" by Harry Nilsson, and the one that will always remind viewers of the movie's grisliest scene, "Stuck in the Middle with You" by Stealers Wheel. --Stanley Booth

PARTY!.......2007-06-29
Let me just start this review by saying that THE only way I can listen to George Baker's LITTLE GREEN BAG is with Steven Wrights informative talk up at the beginning... "K Billy's Super sounds of the seventies weekend just keeps on rolling with this little diddy from 1971..."
While the CD itself may not always present itself so well at a party, with all of the dialougue mixed in, and the fact that you can't put it on shuffle if you want to enjoy the Steven Wright goodness, because the dialougue is seperated from the song tracks... this CD is still a party in itself... I've mixed every single one of these songs into various mixes...Steven Wright warm ups ARE essential, and a sure fire way to mix in some songs like HOOKED ON A FEELING or NILSONS' LIME IN THE COCONUT song! And don't forget STUCK IN THE MIDDLE! Awesome music! Party! Rock! Easy choice...
Best. Soundtrack. Ever........2007-06-27
For any fan of the movie, the soundtrack for Reservoir Dogs constantly brings you back to those gut-wrenching and mind-blowing scenes from the movie.
A must have for any lover of the 70s or just the movie.
clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right.......2005-12-14
If there's one thing I must give Quentin Tarantino high marks for is putting together some amazing soundtracks that both make for great listening and complement the film. After I'd first seen "Reservoir Dogs" (far later than every other decent movie-loving person on the planet), it struck me as being a good film with the potential to be truly great after several more viewings. I already knew it was going to become one of my top favorite movies of all time. But what gave it that special kick -- besides the simple but tight plot, the incredible actors, and the love of my life Steve Buscemi (did I just type that out loud...?) -- was the music. And even before I learned to fully appreciate the movie, I wanted -- no, *needed* -- the soundtrack. The songs weren't extraneous or inappropriate, but they effectively punctuated, underlined, and italicized certain scenes and made them even more memorable and meaningful than they would've been without the aural enhancements. As opposed to just random musical sounds laid over a scene, they actually fit in and occasionally lent some commentary if you think about it.
I can listen to this soundtrack over and over (much like the "Pulp Fiction" soundtrack) and it's almost like reliving another layer of the movie. It also has the eclecticism of a free-form radio show, thanks to Steven Wright's "DJ"-ing. Okay, so this CD short. Okay, so some of the songs have been played to death already (did anybody catch the stupid Coke commercials that totally ruined the "Coconut" song? Feh...). It still works as a whole, film dialogue and DJ bits included.
Seriously funny.......2005-01-04
I did feel a bit gypped when I paid the regular price for this half-hour CD, but for anyone who saw the movie and even moderately enjoyed it, it's a must-buy. With the dialogue included, it can even function as a kind of poor man's DVD.
One star for Little Green Bag. I never realized how good this song was until I heard it in full.
One star for Blue Swede's Hooked on a Feeling, which, although it only plays for a second in the movie, is a great song.
One star for the way Steve Wright pronounces 'Bohemiath.' It's worth buying it just for this. I'm serious.
One star for the Madonna Speech, and Lawrence Tierney muttering: "Chu...Toby Chu?"
One star for the way Steve Wright says: "...and Edison Lighthouse's...Love Grows...Where My Rosemary Goes."
The Coconut song and Stuck in the Middle With You are also great. The only thing I missed was any part of the dialogue which begins with Steve Buscemi saying: "How come _I_ gotta be Mister Pink?"
Overrated, but still good........2004-04-19
I'm more a fan of the film, but still decent tunes on here. Truthfully, these 16 tracks contain just 8 songs, the rest is dialogue from "Steven Wright" and others, and amusing just a listen or two. To be honest, unless this is your favorite movie ever, I think you'll find half of these songs annoying, and the only ones I really enjoy are "Fool For Love" and "Stuck In The Middle With You". The rest have been overplayed to death. I like the "Pulp Fiction" disc more, but still only play that once a year. I'll tell you which "Tarantino" soundtracks are excellent though: "Natural Born Killers" and "True Romance".

Excellence Extended .......2007-03-30
Once every four or five years composer arranger/trombonist John Fedchock takes his New York Big Band into a studio and makes a recording for Reservoir records. Fedchock's latest "Up and Running", recorded in the fall of 2006, may be the best yet of a very consistent string of Fedchock big band CD's. The excellence displayed on his first three CD's is extended, or even raised a notch upward, with this release. The band itself sounds remarkably cohesive and perhaps even a bit more relaxed than before, which is evident on the title track. Furthermore, Fedchock has incorporated more influences into his writing without causing it to lose any of its strong and distinctive character.
Fedchock's cleverly places "Moments Notice" over a Latin rhythm and disguises the tune somewhat so that it nearly becomes an original composition. In "Mr. Dudley" Fedchock incorporates the second line beat of New Orleans and a taste of Dixeland. "The Emperor's Empire" is a powerhouse chart reminiscent of Elvin Jones' drumming translated for big band, and certainly stands out as one of Fedchock's best originals to date. Fedchock shows off his dramatic arranging flair and lyrical ballad trombone chops on "Embraceable You and " Dedicated to You." Baritonist Gary Smulyan is featured at length on the hard-swinging "Alfie's Theme." Fedchock always returns for a look at his roots in the Woody Herman band and does so here with a hard swinging shuffle blues "The Ariztocrat," in honor of the late, great bandleader. Rich Perry is featured on "Theme for Ernie," a flowing ballad chart originally written by Fedchock for the Woody Herman Band. "J Birds" is a bright, boppish original penned in memory of J.J. Johnson and Carl Fontana, featuring Fedchock and Steve Davis in fluent solos. Fedchock solos extensively throughout the CD and proves again why he is one of the outstanding trombonists in jazz today, playing with excitement, fleet technique, melodic shape, and complete control in every register.
The solo strength of this band is awesome, there's just no other way to put it. The very distinctive tenor sound of Rich Perry, the more Coltrane-esque style of tenorist Rich Margitza, the bright, lyrical solos of altoist Mark Vinci, the solo trumpets of Scott Wendholt and Barry Ries, and the strong lead and fiery high work of trumpeter Tony Kadleck will consistently catch your ear. The rhythm section of Allen Farnham on piano, either Lynn Seaton or Dick Sarpola on bass, and Dave Ratajczak on drums is right on the money on every chart, playing each groove with power and complete control and conviction. The recording quality of the CD is outstanding as well, with careful attention to balance and dynamics.
John Fedchock's 68 minute "Up and Running" has everything the lover of modern big band jazz could possibly want in a CD. The music will both challenge and comfort you, sometimes get your foot tapping, sometimes whisper in your ear, sometimes blow you away with its power, and definitely command your listening attention at every turn. "Up and Running" is an excellent CD in every respect and highly recommended.
Another Home Run For The John Fedchock New York Big Band.......2007-03-30
I have been waiting a while for this new release ... it's about time that this vastly under-rated group cut a new disc. The playing is tight, superb ... the arrangements are good. Trumpets = Tony Kadleck and Craig Johnson are the Lead players with Barry Ries, Scott Wendholt and Kerry MacKillop rounding out the section. Ries plays some absolutely beautiful flugel. The entire band is an allstar line-up on New York musicians. Great solos ... very good arrangements ... modern harmonics together with good old straight ahead swing. I'll take this group over Down Beat Magazines annual picks anyday. Add this disc to your collection ... you will not be disappointed!

Stunning........2007-04-24
Novembers Doom have big upped themselves in terms of sheer quality. The production is top notch, and theyve really cranked up the intensity of their "Doom Metal." Honestly, this particular disc leaves the aforementioned genre but they have sort of created a subgenre with The Novella Reservoir.
One of the best aspects of Novembers Doom, and always has been, is Paul Kuhr. Discernable death vocals are the best variety because death vocals that you cant understand 24-7 gets old after a while. Thats why I find bands like Novembers Doom, Amon Amarth, and Randy "Corpsegrinder's" Paths of Possession so refreshing. Not only can you understand EVERY SINGLE WORD he growls, but his baritone doom clean vocals are haunting yet beautiful.
Top songs on here have to be Drown in the Inland Mere, Twilight Innocence, and Dominate the Human Strain. DintheIM incorporates every aspect I've come to love about this band, sheer brutality, clean and death vocals, meaningful lyrics. Twilight Innocence is one of the most amazing slow paced yet uplifting pieces from any band from any genre. Dominate the Human Strain is brutal as hell, never really loosening that strangle hold from start to finish and the lyrics in this song are particularly critical of some things as well.
Get this disc, as soon as possible. It's definately in the running for my top release of the year!
Crushing and Sincere.......2007-02-21
Novembers Doom created what I though was their masterpiece in "The Pale Haunt Departure." They've upped the anty. "Novella Reservoir" is a crushing, at times brutal, yet deceptively beautiful brick of death/doom metal. Vocalist Paul Kuhr sounds sincere and convincing with his discernible "growl" The 2 ballads "Twilight Innocence" and "Leaving this" are performed with great passion and superb guitar playing. The first few bars of the opener "Rain" will get you ready for the inevitable onslaught of tremendous metal riffing. The drumming is also performed perfectly, excellent fills and double-bassing. The riffs, oh man the riffs just bone-jarring and pounding. Novembers Doom have sped up their song arrangements and this decision is awesome. Novembers Doom and Solitude Aeturnus are imo, the 2 bands at the top of the Doom Metal mountain. Don't think twice, get this NOW!!

great trumpet jazz.......2006-05-15
If you like great trumpet jazz, check out this guy. He defected from Russia in the 70s, because they repressed jazz, like Castro's Cuba did to Arturo Sandoval. He came up through the later versions of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. His trumpet style is crisp and clear, almost a classical style, yet he incorporates the right amount of blues feeling to keep it as authentic jazz. I think that's phenominal for someone who was unable to hear alot of the music coming up.

it wasn't very good..........2005-05-14
I personally didn't like it, just my opinion. I don't usually buy soundtracks but the music on this one wasn't very good!
TERRIBLE!.......2005-05-14
OMG, this is really not a very good CD... why would you want to buy a soundtrack for a horror movie anyway? and listen to people talk on it... honestly! It's really a pointless CD and a waste of money!
David Hess is NOT on this CD!.......2005-01-28
A search for David Hess turned up this CD, which he is NOT on. David contributed SIX songs to the Cabin Fever Soundtrack, including the closing credits. Do not buy this CD if you are expecting to hear David Hess music from the film, those songs are available separately from David Hess at his own .com
Awesom Stuff.......2003-09-19
The Cabin Fever soundtrack captures all the fun and insanity that makes the movie such a riot to watch. The soundtrack features a few cool songs from the movie (The Turtleneck's song is hilarious) as well as some well placed dialogue cuts, but for the most part this soundtrack is a show piece for Nathan Barr and Angeleo Badalamenti. Nathan's tracks are great mood pieces that work great with the film and would make great Holloween music if you need some for a haunted house. As far as Angelo's work goes...it's awesome. His stuff is more subtle than Nathan's work and its adds a nice contrast to the other tracks. Some tracks feel like they came straight out of Twin Peaks. Great stuff! I highly recommend this soundtrack!!
