The concept of an Italian blues singer sounds intriguing. Why not? Genre-blending and crossover are incredibly popular, especially in world music. One can enjoy a spicy mix of Algerian rai and Jamaican reggae with Cheb Mami and Ziggy Marley's "Madanite", and cringe when listening to the blend of Afropop/Latin rock/classical crossover with Angelique Kidjo, Josh Groban and Carlos Santana's "Pearls."

Zucchero's "Overdose d'Amore" is sappy enough to warrant a doctor's prescription. One would need a shot of insulin to get one's sugar levels regularized. "Diamante", the opening track,is archetypal easy listening,perfect for the dentist's office. "Va Pensiero" has Zucchero sounding like a moaning, bad Italian John Denver. The third song sounds like an ode to gnocchi (it is about herbs and spices. Would you like Parmesan with that?) In "Cosi Celeste",the talented Cheb Mami is relegated to the sidelines as Zucchero's groaning "She's my baby" is his attempt to be a blues man. "Muoio para te" is bombastic, and Sting is swept into it. Finally, there are "Blue" and "Miserere",overblown,bombastic songs composed by U2's front man, Bono. "Blue" is a pseudo-blues song&is a waste of Sheryl Crow's talents. She is better off singing her own songs. "Miserere" IS misery,as the title says,in its odd combination of the Latin Mass and Italian blues.

If you have an Overdose d'Amore, take a few aspirins, drink plenty of water and hot tea, and call the doctor in the morning.

This is my favorite Zucchero CD: I have 4. I only wish he would produce more new material of this incredibly enjoyable quality! Other albums are less accessible and some repeat songs found here. This one is your best bet if you want an introduction to Zucchero. Bought this to friends ages 50 something and 20 something, female,
who immediately fell in love with it. We played it everyday for 4 days. I came back a month later and they were still playing it every day! It's just that good. In my drawing classroom it was also THE favorite requested play of the year (18 year olds) It makes your soul fly.

I'm not in the habit of writing reviews but where this album is concerned, I'm compelled. I bought this album in November 2002 and am addicted to it. 'Diamante' which begins the album, will transport you to a place of serenity. I first encountered Zucchero's haunting voice in 1996 on "Pavarotti and friends for War Child". I've been hooked ever since. I play the album almost daily and it always leaves me yearning for more. Some may say it's music to make love by; I would say it's also music to LIVE by!!!

This is a very nice CD, I just got it recently and I play it over and over again last night. I love it, It is filled with Beautiful songs. The Song Diamante is fantastic, a great start to this CD. The Duets are very very good; Blue with Sheryl Crow, Mi Muoio Per Te with Sting and of course Miserere With Luciano Pavarotti. All the songs on this CD are great.

When I think of an Italian male artist, there are several that come to mind...but the one that stands out beyond all of them is Biagio Antonacci! His vocals and songs are a real treat to listen to. For those that don't speak Italian (and I recommend that you learn), the music is equally as moving, but understanding the lyrics add to the enjoyment. Biagio Antonacci should be on everyone's ipod, and if he's not....what are you all waiting for???!!!!

"Love Language" was Teddy's first post-accident album and a strong comeback. Most of the songs, however, were more MOR-pop than R&B (which I find rather strange) but this may have been the direction Teddy planned on going had he not suffered that horrendous car accident.

I learned about this beautiful music via the movie Choose Me - a great comedy of errors and misbegotten choices, for which Teddy provides smooth and sexy ambiance.

5 out of 5 stars BEWARE OF SKEWED AVERAGES, MUSIC LOVERS!.......2007-02-11

True...the "average customer review" of Carol Welsman's extraordinary CD,
"The Language Of Love" appears to be a mere 4 stars. But that statistic is SO misleading! It is based upon the fact that three reviewers gave Carol at a grand total of 4 stars (1,1,&2) while NINE others praised this
superlative singer, across the board(5 stars each), with a TOTAL SCORE of
FORTY-FIVE STARS! This is how one lies with statistics. And that's not
the bottom line, not yet.
One nay-sayer from 3/04 compared Ms. Welsman unfavorably with three other
jazz wannabes: Connie Evingson, Carmen Lundy, and Paula West --all of whom
are certainly "competent" but are so far out of Carol's league, that they
couldn't even carry her uniforms!
Take Evingson as first example. Her vocal affect is so flat throughout
her albums that it seems identical to her unemotional photo on the front
of her "Gypsy" CD. There's the same disinterested, nasal contact with
every tune. It's not reaching to imagine her showing up for each session,
droning out the songs, putting down the lead sheets, picking up her check
and disappearing out the door--work's over, man!
Carmen Lundy and Paula West are at least more animated and varied in their
treatment of their chosen material. But they, too, are far from the
heights of greatness some would attribute to them. Carmen is good, but
so are hundreds of other R&B singers, from whom she differs very little.
Paula West is somewhat better--mainly because she attempts more challenging items from the Great American Songbook. Oddly, though--for
example on her "Restless" CD--because she includes such non-classics as
"Fixin' A Hole" and "Cow-Cow Boogie" (and calls motherless calves
"doggies" instead of "dogies").

Other (and, I suspect, more knowledgeable) reviewers have supplied
ample justifications for their uniform awarding of 5 stars to this master-
ful Juno-Award-winning singer from Canada. Too bad Amazon's star-rating
cuts off at 5! Carol has earned and deserves many more. (Curiously, at
least two of the low ratings came from her countrymen, or persons, as you will.)

Nevertheless, despite the disparities in talent, fine singers are over-
looked in situations where "popular appeal" outweighs real ability.
If you could round up enough people to make hundreds of thousands of
telephone calls, you too could become the next American Idol! Athletes
of mediocre skills manage to draw salaries that are meteoric out of
all proportion to their actual talents. Then there's politics.

Skewed statistics, drawn from musically illiterate but oh-so-opinionated
members of the general public, may be what America is "all about."
But that really doesn't do justice, does it?

I stumbled upon a Carol Welsman concert special on BET Jazz hosted by Ramsey Lewis. I couldn't believe how awesome Carol's singing and piano-playing was. I couldn't wait to get my hands on her CD's. It is really sad that "The Language of Love" is the only CD by Carol available in the U.S. But, it is a very good CD. I pretty much program the album to just play the 8 songs that I like, but those 8 songs are so good, that I still have to give the whole CD 5 stars. I skip all the really slow songs like "Nightingale" and "Every Breath you Take" and just listen to the more up-tempo, latin-flavored tracks. Carol's version of "Slow Boat to China" is awesome. Her scat-singing is so fun to learn and then sing along with. And, "Coracoa Leviano" is beautiful. The real juicy tracks are the last two "Chanson de Maxence" and "Senza Fine." I would happily pay 20 bucks just to have those two songs alone. So, I don't think people should be disappointed with this album.

As a jazz pianist and recording artist, I applaud Carol's musicianship and performance on this album. Her selection of tunes combines classic favorites with recent hits. The arrangements and musicians are awesome. We all look forward to future albums. The album is well worth the investment.

I bought this CD because of all the glowing reviews it received. I can't believe we're listening to the same album. All I heard was an overly breathy, average singer whose range isnt great [but like the advice in the Sondheim song she "modulates"] and who lacks all a real singer's talents when it comes to interpreting and playing with the melody.

To compare, I think Connie Evingson has a similar kind of voice, but is a MUCH better singer and interpreter of jazz music. And if you want to listen to REAL jazz greats, I suggest Carmen Lundy and Paula West.

Maybe it's just my taste, because the other reviewers had quite a different impression of this singer. I think she was carried along by a great band, but if you like the singers I've listed, I doubt you'll like Carol

    I believe that Zazie is one of the greatest pop female French artists out there right now. Her music is just so fresh, light, and catchy with a nice, cute, and clever rock edge. I feel that after every album she just gets better, using more interesting sounding rock music into her unique lyrics. I'm glad she's getting some attention in the US, even though im quite surprised that she hasn't crossed over as well as say, Emilie Simon. But hopefully Zazie will one day get airplay, or at least have her CD's sold more often in USA stores!

    I bought this cd on a whim. I had heard Zazie's title song for the "Ma Vie en Rose" film and couldn't get the tune out of my head! So I decided to get this album as a result and I couldn't be happier! She is fantastc! All her cds come w/ lyrics and she sings slowly enough so those just learning French can easily follow along (This ia a great way to improve your French vocabulary!). Since then, I have bought all her cds and love them all. I highly recommend this cd as a Zazie primer.

    Long time ago I saw Zazie's video clip "Zen" on TV and was totally amazed by her extraordinarity and femininity. Starting from that time on, I'm being captivated by her every song. Her voice is so tender and vivid! The "Zen" album is the first one that I purchased, I listened to it, I don't know how many times and am still listening to it. "Zizanie" is the second album, and I think, it's a 10-out-of-10 album. Today I received Zazie's one of the best albums "Made In Love" and am so happy to see it in my own hands and enjoy its full-of-energy songs! Just by this album, I can surely say that Zazie is a real talent. Buy "Made In Love" now, and you'll understand what a real music is!

    5 out of 5 stars Good CD but not the best of Zazie.......1999-09-19

    This last CD from Zazie is very good but does not compare with her previous one : ZEN. Buy Zen before Made in love. I would describe "Made in love" as being a very cosmopolite and modern content CD. It most of all denunciates racism, women problems and the rapid technological development of computers while combining good melodies and rocking rhythms. What I love about her style is that she has very great lyrics (which is rare today), using plays on words on different themes. She is both traditional and modern in some ways. Moreover, I like when she uses music from another song and by adding new lyrics and tune, transforms it into a new song (she's good at that). "Femmes tefales" was previously "Heures hindoues" from Daho. In "Zen", she did the same with track 5 "je t'aime bien", the music being from "je suis venu te dire que je m'en vais" (hommage to Gainsbourg). Since this CD is mainly french, it would be hard for english native speakers to appreciate it in its whole integrity (content most of all). Anyway, give it a try cos' her music goes beyond international barriers and is very representative of what is the French music trend today. Zazie, continuez ainsi car j'apprecie beaucoup votre musique. Une fan.

    Zazie knows how to say things and this album really proves it. Her texts are so toughtful that it is impossible to not love them. Moreover, her music is brilliant and interesting. I loved her first two albums and this third one is ... amazing. If you want to discover Zazie, Made in love is the album you need!

      I thought this was a good CD, I tend to like music form all over the world. I found a few songs to be great. Some songs on it I wasn't too impressed with. Over all it was a good CD I listen to it to relax and even to get me in the mood.

      This is a very wonderful cd...the cover art is lovely and the music is relaxing... I know it is music for the Kama Sutra, but I slip this cd in on my way to work, and I have a good day every time! So, it is not only for intimate moments!
      I only gave it 4.5 stars cause it does get a tad bit repetitive towards the end, and I don't care for the last 4 songs as much as the first 3. Yes, there are only 7 songs on this cd, however, they are all pretty long. There is a lot of native instruments of India used on this cd, and there is some beautiful singing and vocalizing on all tracks.It does take you away from the everyday, and can be used as a relaxing tool for meditation...or anything else you want to use it for...
