...weaves a magical musical spell that is sure to enchant anyone who will take the time to listen.

Product Description
Exploring themes of loss, grief and memory, "The Memory Tree" is an inspired musical journey through life's profound contrasts of darkness and light. Johnson's keyboards and vocals spiral within a full range of brilliant instrumental performances by Irish musicians, Brian Dunning (flute and whistles) and John Fitzpatrick (violins), along with cellists, Jami Seiber and Jozef Lupták, David Hagelganz on saxophone and classical singer, Janet Chvatal. Also featured are guitarists, Tim Ellis and Derri Daugherty, Gregg Williams on drums and percussion, and Phil Baker on bass.

3 out of 5 stars Good for collectors.......2007-07-08

This is not Howard Shore and no-one should think it is, however I found it a nice addition to my LOTR music collection. I have all the Shore music and it is outstanding - this is interesting, nowhere near as good, but very nice nonetheless. I especially like the soprano Charlotte Kinder on this CD and I would recommend it just for her contribution in some ways I prefer her to Renee Fleming, but that is of course a subjective statement. The other female singer is ok, but nothing special compared to the originals.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2007-03-30

I had real high hopes for the soundtrack cause the movies ROCKED!!! This was a disappointment cause the vocal version of "Into the West" "sucked" cause the lady sounded like she lost her voice an faded in an out. They should have gotten Enya to do the vocals or AT LEAST the Into the West cause the ldy that sung it made the volume "suck" when I thought it would have a BIG finish but instead it had a BIG disappiontment!!!

2 out of 5 stars Buyer beware.......2006-09-01

Just be sure to read up on this closely... it's not the orchestra you hear in the movie, and you may be especially disappointed when you hear the vocal tracts - gone are great talents Enya and Annie Lennox, replaced by no-name voices. This is not BAD music, but don't think you're a genius for capturing the music of the movies on one inexpensive 2-CD set.

4 out of 5 stars Worth It.......2006-03-30

Howard Shore's scores to the three Lord of the Rings movies are a classical masterpiece in their own right, and as such I don't mind hearing them played by a different orchestra. While I prefer the originals on the whole, this set has some very nice things to recommend it. The best part is that you get instrumental renditions of the end credits song from each film. My favorite is "Into the West," from The Return of the King, with a cello replacing Annie Lennox's vocal performance. I really disliked Lennox's ugly, popified performance of the song, but I thought that the melody and orchestration were gorgeous, so I could not be more delighted to hear the song performed by a cello, with all original orchestration intact. That one track is worth $20 to me.

5 out of 5 stars This Collection Captures the Lord of the Rings Aura.......2006-01-27

From the song titled "Concerning the Hobbits" which is lighthearted and cheerful, to "The Bridge of Khazad Dum" with it's intense shadowy drums and chants this collection of The Lord of the Rings trilogy's music ensues the essence of all three movies. My favorites are included along with some new added bonus favorites now. "May It Be," "Into the West," and "The Riders of Rohan." The vocals are absolutely beautiful in some of the songs with soothing women's voices that just glide along as if riding the wind of white cottony cloud. The only down side to the CD's that I found dissapointing was that the last three songs, not being sung by the original artists, don't quite rest as well with the soul as the original's, yet are still very beautifully executed. I have listened to them over and over again even as they are different artists. I highly recomend this soundtrack compelation to anyone who enjoy's the Lord of The Rings Movie's Music.

1 out of 5 stars Beware! This is NOT the official soundtrack!.......2006-07-12

I played my official soundtrack CDs to death so I was looking for a replacement. This is not the real thing. A lot of the tracks aren't even on these, and the order on the rest of them is all mixed up. Bad quality sound, without the energy and passion of the original -- sounds like elevator music. There are even misspellings throughout the playlists. It is not readily obvious to the buyer that it isn't what you think it is, until it arrives.

The Fellowship volume won't play on one of my hard drives at all; it plays, but fuzzily, on my laptop. I gave up before trying it in the CD player in my vehicle.

2 out of 5 stars Not the original music.......2005-07-13

I was expecting this to be the music from the movies - it isn't. It is nicely done, but if you're expecting the same style and sound as from the movies, look elsewhere (this sounds more MIDI than orchestra).

Album Description

Tree Colored See is a collaborative effort between renowned L.A. hip hop and electronic producer Nobody (Elvin Estella) and Mystic Chords of Memory (featuring Chris Gunst of The Beachwood Sparks and The Aisler SetÕs Jen Cohen). After swapping successful guest appearances on a few releases, the trio began working on a collaborative project in the spring of 2004. After a year filled with road trips and mailorder-only production efforts, the group hits upon a perfectly crafted blend of psychedelic hip-hop and sunshine folk-rock. A producer/ arranger in the classical sense, Nobody uses his samplebased tool set to create the foundations of the album. Gunst continues to mature as a songwriter and along with partner Cohen, adds wistful vocals and accomplished musicianship. Fans who may have followed these artists throughout their respective careers will be thrilled at how Tree Colored See brings out the best in each.

5 out of 5 stars headphone density.......2006-10-04

Thank God for the Beachwood Sparks. I was a big fan of those guys and from their ranks I've gotten two of my favorite albums of the past couple of years. First is the highly underrated All Night Radio, a disc I have simply never grown tired of, like the aural version of a sunny Saturday in my youth. And now this album, a collection of music that is both light and thick, a true headphone creation that unfolds in your head like the flowing petals of a digital flower... Me digs it...

5 out of 5 stars two great bands make one great album.......2006-09-05

this is perhaps the best record of its genre to come out other than possibly the latest melpo mene record (a great band out of sweden). somehow these two bands integrate their sounds so seamlessly that they have created an entirely new sound you wouldn't have guessed either one of them had something to do with, other than the familiar vocals. this is one of those albums that makes their more popular predecessors probably wish they had made it, and also makes them realize they probably never could.

5 out of 5 stars This really hits home for me.......2006-07-09

I have to slightly disagree with the above review. This is an excellent album and it's perfection is not the question. It creates a luscious soundscape that is very unique. It inhabits certain moods that are like land and water yes but really very moving and extraordinary. I'm probably not as familiar as you with their back catalogue but I think this is a fine album. It really moves quick and gets to things at a very good pace. Maybe if it had been more along the lines of perfection you expect, it would be too long. In my opinion they gave it good measure and it's great from start to finish. Sure tracks stick out but all great albums have the same issue.

4 out of 5 stars www.undressmerobot.com review:.......2006-06-22

Electronic Hip Hop marries Psychadelic Folk?

What is ultimately a more intruiging concept on paper than in reality, Tree Colored See disappointed me only in the fact that it's not perfect. Nobody has been my favorite electronic hip hop artist for the last couple years and Mystic Chords of Memory released some great psych-folk two years ago, one of my favorite genre's lately. Hence, I expected this album to be perfect.

Maybe it's because these two genres were never meant to be mixed; maybe it's because Mystic Chords of Memory just weren't the perfect psych-folk pick for Nobody; maybe it's simply because this album doesn't sound radically different from a lot of Nobody's solo songs (see "What Fall Brings" and "You Can Know Her" for examples) - I'm simply not sure, but this album just isn't perfect! Yet it's still a really dreamy sound done extremely well by some of the most talented people out there.

Mystic Chords add vocals and real instruments to the songs while Nobody polishes the music with his loops, beats, and other random electronic tamperings. The first half aims to "reflect the land" while the second half is supposed to "reflect the water." If you're in the right state of mind, you can easily notice the differences in the loops and guitar riffs between these two halfs - and it's pretty cool. Every song on the album is calming and somewhat magical, but not enough songs are like "When the End Meets the Beginning," a song that is both electronically engaging and psychadelically captivating at the same time, so much so that makes you hang on to every note. Other songs come close, just not close enough.

Needless to say, you have to at least check this release out if you're a fan of Nobody or Mystic Chords of Memory. Remember - it's not that it's bad, it's just not perfect.

1 out of 5 stars Kinsella is far from genius.......2004-06-16

Yeah, Kinsella, the lead guy of this group- he isn't a genius. He's far from one. He is more like an "artsy" kid from high school who wears tight jeans which clutch his tight little ass, clogs in the summer, scarves in the summer, and reads books written no later than 1850 all from eastern Europe. Yeah, you know, the smart art type student- no... no... more like the kid striving to maintain anonymity by listening to some of the worst music around. Also, please note I in no way listen to mainstream music, but Joan of Arc is pretentious, overrated material. If right now you find yourself upset with me, then good, I actually truly glad I upset you.

    4 out of 5 stars somehow entertaining.......2002-08-29

i have not bought any other joan of arc albums but this one, ive had it now for five months or so and the lyrics are just beginning to make some sense. they are random, and when really looked closely at, are quite whitty. example: "all this white bread makes me wonder" as far as the techo aspect...it does add something to the music at times, but at others, it pulls away from the record. its hard to classify the album into any particular genre. you could place it in emo, you could place it in indie...it doesn't really matter. it sounds good, it holds your interest. realitivly simple record. ill be sure to check out their other two records down the road. mike kinsella who is in this band is also n american football and his solo persona owen. check them out too for a little cleaner voice and sound alltogether. 4 stars.

    4 out of 5 stars clean.......2000-03-03

joan of arc is so clean. clean guitars, clean sounds, colors... its still emo but its fragmented and more sharper when they do it. its not as straightfoward as the old joan or arc release or especially its earlier focus CaP'n Jazz. this music is an acquired taste. one thing about this cd is that i wish they had more songs like "White out"... other than that just like capnjazz the lyrics are top notch, the smart guitar playing, and the busy intricate drumming with little bleeps here and there from keyboards or whatever it is. its not 303's or anything.

4 out of 5 stars neat record: artistic and infectious to boot.......1999-05-04

If you've heard Cap n' Jazz, you know the vocalist. Abrasive and discordant, but somehow endearing as well; the kind of vocals that fit this music. I was a bit wary to try this record because of the supposed techno influence, but it only enhances the catchiness of these songs, adding another layer of music to the standard rock components (guitar, drums, bass) and meshing beautifully with the orchestration. The lyrics are top-notch, too. A serious progression from Cap N' Jazz in that the pop songs are much fuller than they were previously. Some of these songs (this life cumulative, to've had to of, god bless america, etc.) are simple masterpieces that keep you hooked to this record, listening to the record end over and over. If you aren't familiar with Cap N' Jazz, this record may take some getting used to, but it is well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and unique.......2005-12-19

I would like to compliment Alison on her beautiful playing and Dave cooke for his unique and complimentary arrangement of this album. This album brought John Field into the present age and transformed it without destroying it. I am not a clasical boffin but this has sparked my interest.

    5 out of 5 stars Artistic perfection.......2005-09-01

Alison Hood plays the nocturnes of Irish composer John Field with a soft, gentle perfection; never jarring or heavy, even in the most difficult pieces. The softly played whistles and pipes lend interest and an Irish touch to several of the selections. Delightful to listen to at the end of a stressful day.

    5 out of 5 stars still a great album.......2003-10-14

just played this lovely album after losing it for more than a year and it is still a pleasure to listen to... reminds me of some great times and of a special birthday this month... it will always be special. r

    5 out of 5 stars wonderful artist.......2001-01-09

i had the pleasure of meeting this artist recently, and she is just as special in real life as she is on cd. her beautiful playing is only enhanced by her personality which has made listening to this album even more of a pleasure since meeting her. her skill as a pianist is obvious on every track but really comes into its own on 'around the fairy tree', 'a love is lost but not forgotten' and, my favourite by a long way, 'o'er the moor o'er the mountains'. i will continue to listen to this album daily as i have done since last may, and enjoy the memories.

5 out of 5 stars music fan from dublin.......2000-10-16

oh my god...what a lucky day for me when i read the reviews on this album and decided to check it out. this young irish pianist plays the music of field in a arranged in a unique and wonderful way by the well known composer and arranger phil coulter...i'm quite sure the classical snobs will have a "field" day with this one but i hope they have the foresight to look deeper into the beautiful playing on this album and realise that this is the perfect way to bring the music of one of irelands best kept secrets, john field, to a new audience. i look forward to the next album from alison hood. not only does she look wonderful, but she plays like an angel.
