About the Artist
Kenni Hairston has performed on stage, video and broadcast television and toured extensively as a musician and singer. His experience with musical artists includes Cyndi Lauper, Cameo, Elliot Easton ("The Cars"), Miles Jaye, Nona Hendryx, Mutiny (members of "Parliament Funkadelic") and Mtume (composer for the television show, "New York Undercover") and others. He has also written and produced songs for a number of artists including Vanessa Williams, Cameo, CoCo Lee, Freddie Jackson, Danni Minouge, Marc Nelson from the group Az Yet, The Barkays and others. He received the ASCAP Song Writing Award for the Number One R&B Single on Billboard Magazine charts. (Running Back to You / Vanessa Williams) Kenni also received the 3M "Visionary Award for Excellence" with his arrangement and production of ‘Me and Mrs. Jones' for Freddie Jackson, originally performed by Billy Paul. Sherrie Dillard M. Div. teaches throughout the United States and Europe. Her emphasis is on mind-body-spirit health and wellness.

Serene Beauty.......2007-08-05

This is one of my regulars in my CD player. I live on a student's income and don't have the funds to create a fancy surround sound meditation room but this album helps create a serene environment even out of my small CD player. If you fall in love with this album (which I'm sure you will) check out another favorite of mine by the Gordon Brothers, Soothing Sanctuary

Very Dull.......2007-02-21

I think I am being generous with one star here.
David and Steve excel in some genres but should stay away from pure environmental efforts. The waterfall/stream sounds on this CD are loud, harsh, and overdone. The sounds are monotonous and just go on and on and on until you just can't stand it anymore. I have a fair number of music/nature compilations so I know what I'm talking about...this one becomes just plain annoying after a while. There is nothing soothing or serene about it at all.
If you are looking for the absolute best quality nature recordings blended with music, seek out any of Dan Gibson's work and go no further.

Best CD I've found for getting to sleep.......2006-06-16

I have purchased about a half dozen relaxing/meditative CDs, have a clock with "relaxing sounds", and listened to many more CDs. However, Garden of Serenity is the ONLY music I've found which calms my mind at the end of the day and sends me off into a quick, peaceful sleep. It's almost pavlovian - I hear the first four notes and I'm instantly relaxed. I highly recommend this as a sleep aid.

Very soothing and relaxing the whole way through.......2003-06-25

As a massage therapist I was a little worried about buying this because one reviewer was annoyed by the chimes - but they aren't really annoying in the least. I not only use this for my own clients, but I will put it on for myself when I receive one. I'm going for Volume II.

Garden of Serenity.......2002-07-12

My tri yoga instructor uses this in our sessions. It allows you to breathe with the music at your own pace and is conducive to working toward slower, fuller breaths. The music is very tranquil.

Rasa return with another CD of dream hymns from India. Taking their early cues from the pop arrangements of the 1970 George Harrison-produced hit "Govinda" by the Radha Krsna Temple, they turn Indian bhajans or hymns into often intoxicating entreaties. As on previous discs, Hans Christian creates deeply layered orchestrations of cello, sitar, sarangi (a bowed Indian stringed instrument), electronics, and percussion. That's the pond upon which singer Kim Waters drops her chant melodies in one of those serene voices that descend from the heavens. While other Rasa albums tended toward the slow-trance electronica side of groove, Temple of Love had a dreamier, contemplative sound often free of rhythm. "Jaya Radhe" and "Parama Karuna" follow this path with Waters in a free-float over drones that unfold like colored smoke. But rhythm isn't completely absent. "Doya Koro" and "Om Purnam" have slow, seductive trance pulses that mix loops and Indian hand percussion. However, "Adharam Madhuram" almost heads into ethno-lounge terrain. The title of this album, Temple of Love, refers to the temples of Khajuraho in India, known for their erotic carvings and love stories. Rasa could have provided their perfect soundtrack. Rasa's latest release, Temple of Love, blends Hans Christian's excellent meditative and ethereal instrumentation with the achingly beautiful vocals of Kim Waters, creating a distinctive style of classic, yet contemporary, Indian spiritual music. Hans Christian is a classically trained musician originally from Germany. In early adulthood he moved to Los Angeles and quickly became connected in the local music scene. When he met up with Kim Waters in Northern California, they began to develop their own sound that fused her voice with his musicianship. Kim Waters is a distinguished singer and illustrator whose publications include Illuminations from the Bhagavad Gita and The Butter Thief. She has been singing devotional songs of the Vaisnava saints for many years, inspired by the mystical teachings and rich cultural heritage of India. More sinuous, sensual Indian fusion from Rasa.......2006-09-29

This is the gentlest and quietest of Rasa's recordings of Indian devotional songs, and perhaps the one best suited for deep meditation. The tone of "Temple of Love" is a bit more whimsical and spacey than that of previous albums, with more synthesizer ambience and less emphasis on drum beats. Kim Waters' voice glides and croons above a symphony of gentle instrumentals, overdubbed by Hans Christian on a multitude of stringed instruments ranging from cello and Scandinavian nyckleharpa to Indian sitar and sarangi, not to mention keyboards and ethnic percussion. Though unique unto itself, Rasa's music was developing a tendency to all sound the same after a while. This dreamy, laid back album is a welcome departure, with some new modes and melodies, and different orchestrations. That being said, the first track "Jaya Radhe" (while not at all the same as the similarly named "Jaya Radha" from the previous album, "Shelter") does sound very similar to something I remember hearing on an earlier release, but I can't place it. The other songs, however, are fresh and new. For more by Rasa, try "Light and Spirit," Hans Christian's solo venture into the world of Renaissance polyphony, with his unique blend of cello, nyckelharpa and sarangi overdubs in tow. It's an interesting twist on the repertoire!

A Journey of Transcendence.......2006-06-08

Rasa's latest offering creates the space for the listener to not only transcend universal consciousness but to actually FEEL the the cellular structure relax and align to the memory of Oneness. It's a carefully crafted process - tracks 1-5 set the stage so gently the mind doesn't quite realize what's occurring, track 6 is "lift-off," tracks 7-9 afford the opportunity to live in that state of eternal remembrance. ...for another great musical experience!! I fell in love with the first of this series and have been waiting to hear the second in this series. This album is just as good as the first, if not better. I enjoy the long versions of the songs for yoga sessions and the shorter versions for a quick wind-down at the end of the day. If you end up enjoying this album as much as I do, check out another favorite of mine: Soothing Sanctuary.

Exceptional for Love-making.......2003-02-08

This is far and away both my wife and my favorite CD for making love. Incredibly romantic, gentle and soothing, it has the ability to really heighten and prolong our intimate encounters assisting to transport us to new heights of ecstacy. I am a fan of the Gordon's and find their music inspiring, moving, and relaxing. Their drum music is far the best score that they play, although this CD is on a different plane, it is still worth the purchase. Enjoy it!

For some time now it's seemed as if the realm of wordless vocal exotica has been ruled by women--what with Lisa Gerrard, Vas, Ekova, and Adiemus singing wordless hieroglyphics. But now, Thomas Barquee follows fellow German-born singer Thomas Otten in asserting a male timbre in the proceedings. Barquee merges Gregorian ambiences, synthesizer framing, and what sounds like a glossolalia of Latin and Sufi phonemes. His attractive alto voice doesn't employ esoteric techniques. There's no harmonic singing, Mongolian throat growls, or Qawaali wails. Instead, he's like a choirboy in a state of ecstasy as he arcs across his chants, articulating an inner rumination. Favoring spare and resonant synthesizer orchestrations, distant hand percussion, and the occasional touchstone of piano and acoustic guitar, he gives his music an airbrushed sheen, creating a chromium cathedral. Though occasionally edging toward sweet sentimentality, Barquee always pulls back from the saccharin precipice. --John Diliberto

I call this cd the temple of truth. This beautiful, haunting music wakes you up and carries you on a dramatic musical journey, winding through currents of light and shadow, illuminating the universe from inside out. I can't really explain; only the music can. If soul travel frightens you, don't listen. But if you like to reach for heaven, you'll probably love Temple. I do. It's the most empowering music I've ever heard and my favorite cd ever.

I have just ordered the last cd of Thomas Barquee: The Sound Of Om and I am expecting that it would be as interesting as this and of Missa. The tracks in this cd takes you to heaven as you experience the difference between a normal state and a transe state, almost like exctasy. It has wonderfull words of power and you have to let yourself go with the music and the words. Do not refrain yourself...let yourself go...and enjoy the power that Thomas Barquee has input in every second of this cd.

Alternately Vacuous and Annoying.......2002-10-26

This recording should not be offered together with Thomas Otten's brilliant work of art (Close to Silence). And, Lisa Girard should sue. Thomas Barquee displays very limited vocal talents, and perhaps even more limited imagination ... This is the sort of mediocrity that gives the New Age genre a bad name. I wish I could get my money back.

The CD has the ability to take you to a place that is the epitome of inner peace and healing. I was amazed at how quickly the time passed as I listened the first time and how great I felt at its conclusion.

The subsequent uses of the CD have found my ability to relax and heal grow stronger as the CD transports me to a place I rarely have the time to find without it. A must for those whose daily life doesn't allow the time for true relaxation and healing from the grind.

Every time I listen to the Healing Temple, I feel surrounded by a sense of peace and healing. The music is subtly pleasant and the beauty and power of the guided meditation is the open approach to address any aspect that I might want to heal.
