Interesting, but something just doesn't gel........2007-06-23
OK, let me start by saying that I do like most of the album. I'm only really writing this review to help others like myself who only hear the clips here or on iTunes before buying the CD, only to be disappointed when they get it. All of the clips I heard were good enough for me to take a chance on this CD. However, most of the album is NOT like the clips I heard. It's not bad by any means, but it is different.
I will describe it with the recurring thoughts that ran through my head as I listed to it several times this week:
1. The music reminds me a lot of Metallica's And Justice For All. Now I loved "Justice," but a lot of fans didn't. This album is just as progressive if not more so. Very good musicianship.
2. Her vocals are very good. Reminds me of the female vocalist that Sirenia had on "At Sixes & Sevens." For me, anyway, that is a damn good thing. That was always my favorite CD by Sirenia BECAUSE of her.
3. Did someone dub the wrong vocals over this song? This is my main complaint with the album. The vocals don't mesh with the music. And by that I mean they don't sound like they belong with the music being played on some of the songs. Some of them are fine, but on some I keep thinking that the band just took her vocals and slapped them over another song that they liked playing better. (Yes, I do realize that this MAY be some high-brow experiment in musical progression that I just don't enjoy, but if it's hard to listen too, then how do they expect to attract new listeners? In 4 days, I've already had 3 people comment on this that have heard it in my truck.)
When all is said and done, it is a good CD, and I am eagerly awaiting their next offering. I just hope they tighten up the vocals with the music. Her voice deserves the respect.
Pass.......2007-06-06
I bought this album because Deadlock's "Wolves" CD piqued my interest in what other female-fronted melodic metal bands had to offer.
This one was a disappointment.
The singer is completely out of sync with the rest of the band as she seems to stay in the same 3 minor keys no matter what the rest of them are playing. The musicianship is sub-par to say the least and by the end of the album, I could only reach the conclusion that the record companies are in too much of a hurry to sign any band who sounds like Lacuna Coil.
Pass on this one and get "Wolves" instead.
Awesome CD...Buy it!.......2007-05-15
Combine the massive drumming of Fear Factory, the excellent dual-guitar work of Iron Maiden, and the best vocals this side of Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, and Leaves Eyes (ex-Theater of Tragedy), and you have just a hint of how phenomenal this band really is. What you can't imagine, unless you listen, is how their sound is so totally captivating. This combination of aggressive music and ethereal vocals, transcends Evanescence (Amy Lee is a great singer), and most other music in this genre of female lead goth/symphonic metal. It really is a spectacular debut album; I cannot stop listening...it sucks you in, and just won't let go.
It's not all that.......2007-04-24
This CD definitely lacks in being congruent. The singer seems to be in her own world while the musicians are off thrashing half the time. It's like she is singing to different music. Very strange.
A promising first album.......2007-04-21
The first comment I will make regarding this album is the strong production value. I believe the guitarist, drummer and singer are all studio engineers and it shows. Given the fact this was released on an independent label I can't imagine the sound quality being any better. The only real complaint I can make about the production is the singing of Francine Boucher is over processed at times.
The guitar compositions are very strong; Brandon Patton is certainly a master of his craft. Other than the obvious sex appeal that Francine Boucher brings to the band I am not sure that she is on the same musical par as Brandon Patton & Kirk Carrison.
Although typical of other bands in the genre, another potential grumble might be that the songs run a little long. Which raises the question, is Echoes of Eternity content being a progressive metal band or do they want mainstream crossover appeal? I feel that the potential is there to make a strong statement on the national scene with more accessible vocals and shorter compositions.
Also I have to laugh when the credits say that the band is "from LA & Japan". Stop fronting guys you know you all are from Columbia, SC. Don't be ashamed of where you came from, Evanescence hails from Little Rock Arkansas and all they have done is sell 14 millions albums and win two Grammy Awards.
Bottom line is that the CD is a worthy purchase and seems to grow on you after a listen or two (you will have "Forgotten Goddess" stuck in your head I promise). If the band does read reviews I would like to see an instrumental where Brandon & Kirk unleash the full fury in an uncompromising instrumental song.

This was a really good album!!.......2007-06-27
This album is old and my review is way late but this is one of my fave albums. "Hippychick" is probably the only song most people recognize but the album was full of catchy songs.
"Love Generation" is the first track and it's a feel good, dancey song that makes you want to listen to it again. Probably the best track on the album.
Other good tunes are "Freaky" and "Goddess". You cannot listen to this album without wanting to get up and dance.
This group was talented. I wonder whatever happened to them?
It's okay.......2002-10-29
I thought about 3 of the songs were good. #2 is my favorite and that is why I bought the CD, Hippychick is a song I haven't heard since I was 10 yrs old. It's been great to hear it again after 13 years of not hearing it. That guitar begining was something I was never able to get out of my head. Overall, the CD is okay, not great, but I still like track #2!
Still one of my favorites..........2002-05-28
I still love this CD as much as I did when I was in high school...it contains a little something for everything - fast & upbeat; melancholy & lyrical; techno-esque beats and fun lyrics. Not too deep, but good "convertible" or "summer music"
Soho's Cuff Sisters are now members of Copenhagen.......2002-04-18
Hey, if you're missing the exquisite vocals of Jacqui and Pauline Cuff, the voices of Soho, they are alive and recording with the group Copenhagen in the UK. They still have their great twin sound. I hope Amazon will soon add Copenhagen to their inventory. Currently, the Cuff sisters are singing with Neil Henderson who leads the group. Tim London, who produced Soho and played guitar is still the preferred producer for Copenhagen---so the gang is alive and well in the UK as Copenhagen. Check them out!
Very Hip Effort !.......2000-09-15
One of the best pre-alternative/soft hip-hop/trip/hop bands to come out of the early 90's. Too bad after only two or three c.d.s Soho became "so long".
All sentimental sincerities aside, Goddess proved to be more of an underground success from the U.K. then a top 40 mainstream pop band for commercial consumption. A good thing, too; This only showed that Soho did it more for the art than the industry. When I heard the female lead singers (the Cuff sisters) before seeing their video, I had a strong mental image of the two resembling a couple of Anglo American gals ( a look between Joan Osbourne and Sarah McLachlan or Alanis Morissette). Was I surprised and delighted to find out they were from England of Negro descent with closely shaved heads and a free-style artistic experimental attitude !
The entire album does not contain a single toss out track or tune based on mediocrity. It possesses an almost retro-feel of the 60's with 70's and 90's musical pop influences. Soho only produced three albums, Noise, Goddess and Thug. Skip the first and last one. Goddess is a Godsend !...

Bootleg-savvy Stones fans understand why Mick Jagger's solo albums tend to be curiously pop-precious and testosterone-challenged; if Keith Richards had his druthers, we'd likely have Exile on Main Street Vol. XI by now. Indeed, given Jagger's decades-old rep as the most virile dinosaur of the herd, it can be jarring to have the Vulnerable Mick ponder "Wonder if you catch my mood / Can you feel my solitude?" as the strings well on this album's "Don't Call Me Up." But then, being a caricature so large (and ludicrous) can drive an artist to do desperate things, like sewing his heart firmly to his sleeve in a quest for Truth. Infused with a welcome sense of renewed musical adventure on tracks like the jangly, alterna-nervous Lenny Kravitz collaboration, "God Gave Me Everything," the East-West fusion of the title track, and the modern techno-murk of "Gun" (both cowritten with coproducer Matt Clifford), the icon seems finally to have found a solo persona that fits: Spiritually Awakened World-Weary Rebel. There's even a devoutly uplifting, Pete Townshend-backed duet with Bono ("Joy") that among other things, makes the U2 singer's reservations at Jurassic Park all but official. Still, it's hard to teach an old cur new licks; the best here is undercut by genuflections to chart-conscious predictability (the Rob Thomas collaboration "Visions of Paradise") and hoary-ironic arena-ready sentiments like "Everybody Getting High" (with guest guitar deity/substance abuse expert Joe Perry) that Keith Richards must understand all to well. --Jerry McCulley

If you love Mick..........2006-06-06
Everyone in the Stones is special, but if you love Mick Jagger this is the album for you. I think there is space for Rolling Stones albums and the members' solo albums. I like the variety that the group and the solo albums provide the fans with. The highlights for me on this album were Visions of Paradise, Hideaway and Don't Call Me Up. I bought a copy when it came out and when I moved I had to leave my CDs behind but this is one of the albums I most miss.
Who's Noticing Her...I Love Mick.......2006-05-26
With Pete Townsend and Lenny Kravitz guesting, how could you go wrong. This album could very well be a Stones album, that's how good the songs and music are. And, Mick did say in an interview I heard that he wrote a few of these songs for the Stones, but they decided not to use them, so he did. I think it's Mick's best work to date. Hope he does some more soon. Even if you're not a fan of his solo stuff, I think you'll really like this one.
Great.......2006-04-01
This album was given to me as a gift because I'm a big Stones fan. I never heard of it or of Mick Jagger doing solo work so I was a bit apprehensive before playing it. Well, it is all I've been playing in my car. I love it. My favorite is "Hideaway"...probably because I know someone who is always talking about doing just what Mick sings about in that song. I play that track over and over. But they are all good.
I LOVE IT!!!!! AWESOME.......2006-02-22
THIS IS TRULY A GREAT ALBUM.ITS NOT THE STONES...ITS MICK FROM
THE HEART.I LOVE JUST ABOUT EVERY TUNE ON IT.THE BEST IS HIDE AWAY IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE DRIVING TO THE AIRPORT EVERY TIME I HERE IT! VISIONS OF PARADISE ALSO AWESOME..
I JUST LOVE IT!!!!
DISAGREE .......2005-08-25
This album is actually very catchy. Is it a five start album like Rolling Stone magazine gave it? Absolutely not, but it is still a very solid album. I don't want it to sound like the Stones because it is not the Stones. I also like all the guest artists that appear on this album.

killer.......2006-10-14
i first got into bleeding through after i heard lost in a hail of gunfire. after hearing the song i went out and got this is love, this is murerderous and thought they killed it! but after listening to the record it all started to sound the same with a few tracks that really stood out to me, i was really reluctant to pick up portrait but when i did i fell in love with this band again! this album is way better than this is love, i just can't stop listening to it. but this group has a lot of promise and they seem to only keep getting better because the truth kills everything! i can't decide which is better though the truth or portrait. the truth musically is brutal but i could have done with out all the clean vocals and the only slow track that's on it, but the keyboards and drums kill! anyways, promising band.
good.......2005-12-04
this is a good CD..i personally like "This is Love, This is Murderous" better...ive listened to this CD alot...and i still find new things about it...M. Shadows from A7X appears in #5 of this CD...overall great buy, if you like "This is Love, This is Murderous" then you'll like this..

One of the best metalcore albums ive heard. Really heavy chugging guitars, harsh screamed vocals mixed with an occasional clean part, and fast aggressive drumming.
The ringout at the end of the Saviour Saint Salvation instrumental gives me a huge [...]
Im pretty much sick of the whole overplayed metalcore genre but this album i still always come back to. Its not particularly innovative or unique (some may argue its generic), but the songs are well written, and relatively catchy, and the breakdowns will make you destroy.
This band is blowing up at the moment and its good to see them still playing cuts of this album when they play live as this is much better then This is Love...
Recommended if you like moshy chugging metalcore
Some people no nothing about music.......2005-01-22
First off i would like to say that bleeding through kicks ass. second off to the idiots that hated bleeding through the singer brandon was also the gutiarest for eighteen vsions and for throwdown. Now on to the albim its self, excellent hardcore for the most part, insane vocals backed up by griddy guitars and probaly the best drummer i have heard in awhile. I say everyone should buy this and maybe some that already own it should take a second a listen and get off the crazy death metal trip cause this hardcore.
Very Good.......2004-12-20
While Bleeding Throughs Portrait Of A Godess doesnt add much new to the table, it is still a very good album. I would definetely recommend this instead of This Is Love This Is Murderous. TILTIM is a pretty generic and boring album. True, Bleeding Through are your typical metalcore band, but they play their music with more passion, fury, aggression and energy than most of them out there. The musicianship is pretty good, especially the drumming. The keyboards in this CD are also pretty interesting. The keyboardist Marta doesnt play anything hard or complicated, but she does add a different element to the music. The highlight tracks here are "Rise" and "Portrait Of A Goddess", two of the most aggressive metalcore songs that youll ever hear. Recommended

Haunting music arranged around harp melodies. Hollienea's voice is quite beautiful, and hits high gear on track 1. Loreena McKennitt comparisons inevitable but unfair. One of the few CD's I have bought in the last couple years not being used for a coaster. Stayed in car CD player for 1 month straight.

I love emmet swimming.......2001-03-30
Not only does emmet swimming rock harder then any band ever, they are the best band i have ever seen live. What's better is an album of them doing it live. Plus it was taped at the 9:30 club which is the best club in DC. So i think this album rocks and everyone should own it so they can see what music should really sound like. Keep rocking forever Emmet Swimming!!!!
Seattle needs Emmet Swimming.......2000-09-21
I was at one of the two shows recorded for this album and it comes close to capturing the energy of their live show. I've since moved across the country and my only regret is that I no longer get to see these guys every couple of months --- this is a great band. If you like insightful lyrics, great rythm, crisp guitar, and depth of style, buy this album and every other album by Emmet Swimming. If they sell enough albums, maybe they'll make it out to Seattle so I can see them again.
live greatest hits.......2000-04-01
This is emmet swimming's best songs in live version. Love "Sunblock", even without the horn section from the studio CD. Don't know why they leave Track 15, "Tom Collins", off the song list but it's there too. Someday they'll be huge and you can tell your friends you heard them first. Try it!
The best live album to get ever!.......1999-11-05
This is a great way to experience Emmet's live sound when ever you want. They are one of the best live bands that I have ever had the pleasure to see. And over the years they have gotten better and better. And the couple of covers on this album also shows their talents, to make someone else's song their own. I love the Police's So Lonely cover, and it's a suprise to see how well Eric and sing.
How Long Until The World Wakes Up?.......1999-09-28
Emmet Swimming is a rare gem in rock/pop music. They unapologetically make great albums. No one seems to respect great albums anymore. They've now put out 5 albums and I can only think of one or two songs out of the 60+ that I would even consider skipping when I listen to them. I usually don't like live albums, but this one delivers in a major way. WAKE UP WORLD!!! (Actually while the world sleeps I get to see them in little clubs in North Carolina like the Cat's Cradle, and the Brewery. So maybe it's alright.)

No Death Metal Nonsense Here!.......2005-10-30
I have loved this band for many years and finally gotten hold of a copy of their two albums. This is classic NWOBHM power metal, melodic but with plenty of bite. Proof that the girls can do it just as good if not better than the guys. It's a tragedy that straight down the line HM isn't appreciated here in Australia. Today's young upstarts are obsessed with death/thrash garbage-tonsil tearing, cookie-monster vocals, 900mph guitarwork and pathetic drumming. Not to mention dumb band names! Get a life and get with 1983!
Anyway i would recommend this CD to true HM/ NWOBHM fans alike, this band were just as good as Girlschool.
And remember kiddies; heavy metal ain't about horrific glass gargling, tonsil ripping vocals against the background of a cement-mixer going off the edge of a cliff in fifth gear!
But you don't get that with this cd, just magnificent raw edged-melodic HM.
Hasn't aged well...........2004-07-02
If you want to go back to the days of cheesy metal this is for you.. Especially if you want it played by some slightly overweight chicks in spandex and singing with funny accents, which saves this stuff from being total rubbish..
Worship the Goddess...sort of........2004-01-31
In the spring of 1984, I purchased an import LP from Bleeker Bob's in Greenwich Village. My selection was based purely on asthetics. Fantastic cover art featuring the mythical Medusa and three smokin' hot chicks on the back cover. Long haired sixteen year-olds have such discerning taste.
The sound that erupted from my speakers when needle touched vinyl was totally unexpected. The opening drum kick and power chords of "Hold Me Down" pound open the doors of a melodic metal classic. The remaining tracks shine less brightly but manage to deliver well crafted rock tunes. Solid guitar work and the raspy yet sexy vocal stylings of Jody Turner highlight a better than average 80's metal offering. The two disc expanded re-issue is a must have for those who experienced the era and those who wish they did alike.
Dumb Name, Good Tunes.......2000-08-08
I don't know why "girl bands" so frequently end up with stupid names. Rock Goddess, Precious Metal, Bangles . . . ugh. It's embarassing.
Anyway, Rock Goddess rocks pretty well. They're about on the level of early 80's Def Leppard as far as how "hard" they rock. The lyrics are nothing special, but the delivery is nice. I used to listen to the "Hell Hath No Fury" album every day back in junior high. The singing can be anything from the standard-issue rock growl to haunting, while the guitar and bass work leaves nothing to be desired. The drum work is absolutely perfect.
Ignore the name; buy the CD.
One Of The First and One Of The BEST.......1999-06-02
The music world got it's second wind in 1980 when bands like Girlschool, Leather Angel and Rock Goddess emerged out of nowhere (actually:England; Hollywood, CA; England, repectively). These chicks made music that was a little harder than The Runaways. It was heavy metal. Rock Goddess vocalist/guitarist Jody Turner had the voice of an evil dweller on one song and the voice of an angel on another. Her guitar work dazzled the ears. Her sister Julie was a master at playing her massive set of drums...you can barely see her in their live video releases! I played my Rock Goddess vinyl albums so much that they've become a bit worn out, so I was ecstatic when these two albums were released on CD. I wish I knew what Jody Turner is up to these days. She is one talented musician. Anyone who likes their music hard and fast and...to just RIP!...buy this set of CDs.

Great, As Always.......2007-02-19
The Queers are consistently great at pumping out Ramones-influenced pop-punk and "Surf Goddess" contains several great examples of such music. If you like the Ramones, Blink-182, or Green Day, chances are you'll dig the Queers.
Classic Queers EP.......2002-02-27
Definitely a must-have, this CD EP has 4 Queers songs, consisting of: 1. Surf Goddess - this is an excellent love song, very memorable. 2. Mirage - awesome version of the Shondels cover that was in Beat Off. 3. Get Over You - awesome Undertones cover. 4. Quit Talkin' - amusing surf song with great guitar riffs. Don't miss out on this classic Queers EP. Also try out Everything's OK.
They're four songs on this EP, not three!.......1999-11-07
I loved this EP. But they're four songs on the CD EP, not three as listed here! They forgot to list the title track, "Surf Goddess". It's the first song, and it's very sweet. I recommend you LOOKOUT (RECORDS) for places where you can get this for a bit cheaper. Well anyway, that's all I really wanted to say. Tryin' to save you, the thrifty consumer, a few extra pennies. Shift some of the wealth around, ya know? Maybe turn on a couple of people to the Queers or whatever in the process. Now I'm eternally etched into the eletronic sands of time. Yipee, what a legacy. Anything to see your name in print. Someone feed me a Gummy Worm. --John Kim
