If you have ever experienced the Mystic Moods Orchestra, this will certainly be one of you favorites. I really learned about them back in the early '70s when LP's were vinyl albums. Been a "liker" ever since. The new songs are beautiful.

The first time I heard of "Mystic Moods" was when I inherited a reel-to-reel deck with a box full of various tapes from my Uncle back in the mid-70s. I was a teenager then, and since I had grown up with an appreciation for every type of music from opera (Mom was an opera singer), to Big Bands, to the rock and roll of my generation, I fell in love with "Mystic Moods." The first I heard on these tapes was "Another Stormy Night." From that point on, I've been a fan of all the 'Moods albums. My favorite was "Nighttide."

In 1990, I read a review for a new 'Moods CD, "Stormy Memories" with Renee Hamaty, and decided to buy another 'Moods CD for my collection. This is a fantastic CD and 16 years later is one I still listen to often. Nothing helps me to unwind better than listening to this CD. It's as if I can close my eyes and imagine peacefully floating on a raft near the waters edge at sunset. I also find it easier to be creative and concentrate on my work while in my office.

Hamaty is a fabulous pianist, and the added elements of ocean waves, chirping crickets, singing birds, a distant steam locomotive, thunder and rain, just makes it even more of a lush experience. Add to that some of the more enjoyable classical, popular, and theatre music and you have an incredible CD.

You can't go wrong with this CD, but one word of warning: after listening to all of the pleasing sounds of waves, rain, and thunder, you will feel as though you are drenched to the bone!

5 out of 5 stars Renee Hamaty Plays Grand Piano - Fabulas Music.......2005-12-16

This is one of my most cherished Mystic Moods Albums. Renee Hamaty (if that is her real name), has the ability to play the piano with extrodinary grace and precision. She has a special touch that produces an extrodinary sound from the piano. I have looked in vain for other albums featuring this artist but have been unable to locate any. This album features Ms. Hamaty on the piano for all pieces on the disc, with each number accompanied with appropriate background sounds that blend beautifully with the music. Highly recommend this album for everyone who loves the piano.

    Boskovsky's encyclopedic collection with the Vienna Philharmonic, recorded between 1957 and 1976, is as close to definitive as one is likely to get. There was a special camaraderie between Boskovsky and the Philharmonic--he was a member of the orchestra's violin section for 37 years and conducted their New Year's Day concerts from 1955 until 1979. There was also a special empathy that these performers, as custodians of a tradition going back to its origins, felt for the music of the Strauss family. It comes across quite wonderfully on these mid-price CDs, which have been painstakingly remastered for an edition every collector should have. --Ted Libbey

    If you love or are just curious about the music of Vienna's Strauss family, this is the box set for you. You need look no further. Willi Boskovsky and the Vienna Philharmonic set the standards for the performance of these sublime waltzes, polkas and marches. The sound is fine, too, even though the recordings are not new. This is, quite simply, a magnificent set. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

    A long series of Strauss music recordings conducted by Willi Boskovsky provides the contents of this slender, super-compact box of 6 CDs. Those who collected the original issues should check the contents before jettisoning them, because not everything has been reissued here. I especially regret that the vocal version of "An der schönen blauen Donau" has been omitted.

    No combination has ever excelled Willi Boskovsky and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in performing this repertoire. Although the waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, marches and overtures were performed over and over again by these musicians, there is never a hint of workaday routine or staleness to be heard here. Everything seems to unfold naturally. Each item's inherent character is displayed. Tiny nuances and felicities of phrasing and a balance that favors the melody and reduces the accompaniment make these performances inimitable. The performance of "Morgenblätter" seems to provide a tad more excitement and impact than the other 85 items.

    The recordings were made between 1960 and 1976. They are studio recordings, not deriving from the famous New Year concerts, and all but the few items from the very earliest year provide excellent sound.
