About the Artist
Evan Richey studied cello with Robert Marsh at the NC School of the Arts for six years, then with Lynn Harrell at The Juilliard School for two years. For twelve years following Juilliard, Evan owned and operated The Place, a recording studio in New York City. Evan is now the Assistant Principal Cellist for the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.
Dave Combs, a native of Erwin, Tennessee, grew up in a family that enjoyed making music. Both of his parents and his grandmother Combs played the piano. While in college Dave played the piano for his home church in Erwin, where he also served as choir director. Dave's first composition, Rachel's Song, named for his first Goddaughter, was recorded by Gary Prim in 1986 and by Barry Tognolini in 2002 and has become a popular instrumental standard around the world. The Outer Banks is Dave's fourteenth album.
Patrick Tucker is an adjunct professor of music at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Patrick also conducts the WFU Jazz Ensemble.
Product Description
Dave Combs has written and produced instrumental music for thirteen albums, but one of the things he has always wanted to do is score the music for a movie. When Dave was asked by EMMY Award-winner, Robert Van Camp, to create an original musical score for new UNC-TV production on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, he accepted the challenge.
Wanting to keep this an all-North-Carolina production, Dave's first thought was to invite his friend, Evan Richey, to collaborate on this project. What a great decision that was! Evan is an incredibly gifted and talented (yet humble) musician with deep North Carolina roots and impressive credentials.
Since Dave's primary instrument is the piano and Evan's instrument is the cello they decided to make the album primarily cello/piano. The songs on the album are all composed and performed by Evan and Dave with special thanks to Patrick Tucker for the wonderful flugelhorn work on a couple of the numbers.
