Customer Reviews:
Mill. Classical review.......2007-05-13
This is a great set of recordings for the money, the only problem was I've had to clean some of the CD's before they played correctly.
classical music for the unitiated.......2007-04-01
This set is a good way to start listening to classical music. It's very well produced and easy to listen to. I purchased it to use as part of my world history high school class. It would have been nice to have some bio information on the composers. However, the product is exactly as advertised and good value for the money. The students were intrigued by how many of the excerpts they had heard before.
Some little gems there that I had forgotten!.......2007-03-30
Although I studied classical music at school, I had all but forgotten it until I bought this set. I heard several tracks I haven't heard for over 30 years, and I had been humming Brahms's 'Hungarian Dance no. 5' for years without ever knowing what it was and it was on the disc, so that was nice.
I found it to be a very good selection overall, but I felt too much had already been heard on TV, which of course is what lots of newcomers to classical music might appreciate. I managed to find about 2 hours of tracks that I wanted to keep, which works out quite expensive per disc, but I did find some wonderful music I had completely forgotten about, so it was worth it. All in all, it represents good value, and I have only knocked one star off as so much of it had been used in adverts.
It is definitely a good introduction to classical music, and it has made me want to listen to more of it, so I don't regret this 'expensive' purchase one bit!
Classical Masterpieces of the Millennium [20 CD Set]
A very helpful collection.......2007-03-24
I define this set as an excellent way to find out who you like, and who you don't, among 20 of the important composers. It opens the door to purchasing more complete pieces by composers you do like, and can save a lot of time and money in the process.
To criticize the set for not containing more composers, or more than just snippets of those who are in the set, is missing the point: it is a helpful introduction to finding your way in the huge maze of classical music. It succeeds admirably in this.
Sound quality is uniformly very good on an audiophile system.
Highly recommended.
Excellent!.......2007-03-08
A great way to start a classical music collection. It's nice to have a full CD of each composer. It makes it easy to keep track of selections/composers I already have and what composers I still need to puchase to complete my collection.
Average customer rating:

Successful crossing over from East to West.......2007-07-06
Nowadays many classical musicians move to 'cross-overs' between Western classics to exotic works, and Chinese musicians and composers pioneer in cross-overs from Chinese music to Western.
Alas, not all attempts are successful. Either there has not been enough nurturing in the Chinese repertoire, or the western playing style has not yet been fully developed.
Ms. Yang is a young classical guitarist. Gathering from what she said in her own introduction to this disc, she is a musician with a great ambition. It is true that the classical guitar may not have a substantial repertoire as other western instruments like the violin and piano. Hence drawing materials from other culture in a guitarist's repertoire is both a necessity and an endeavour.
A guitarist from Beijing, Ms. Yang is familiar with classical Chinese instruments like the gu qin, the zheng and the pipa. These ancient Chinese instruments are like the guitar- all are played by plucking strings set on wooden surfaces. So as Ms Yang herself noted - the guitar originated from the Middle East, a 'cross-over' area of Eastern and Western culture.
In many of the modern works recorded in this disc, Ms Yang played the guitar to the effect of those ancient Chinese instruments, and this is quite stunning. Her familiarity with the Eastern musical style is fully demonstrated, adding the requisite flavour of authenticity to her interpretation. There are a number of great compositions of the gu qing, the zheng as well as the pipa, and I truly look forward to Ms Yang's transcriptions of those to the guitar in due course.
A highly recommended recording for guitar players, guitar lovers and Chinese music fans alike.
One of the best solo guitar albums I have ever heard.......2006-10-06
One of the most original CDs I've ever heard. This CD is full of incredible music. Yang XueFei plays with sensitivity, creativity and passion.
When I played this CD for my guitar teacher, he commented that it was rare for him not to have heard at least one piece on any particular classical guitar CD, yet all these pieces were new to him. Carlo Domeniconi (who wrote the masterpiece "Koyunbaba") has composed an outstanding suite based on the I Ching. The 3 pieces by Stephen Goss, which are based on Asian films, are themselves cinematic: "The Blue Kite" is a work of minimalist beauty. There are many other talented composers lending their gifts to this CD. Most of the selections are either composed for Yang Xuefei or are arrangements by her. All are inspired by Chinese culture and music. My favorite piece is "Long Outstretched Pier with its Shadow" (by Dietmar Ungerrank); it is elegantly written and the execution is sensual and rich.
Yang XueFei's technical agility, especially the right hand, (as in "Yi Dance") goes beyond that of her contemporaries. As impressive as this is, the passion she imbues into each work is what connects her to the songs and ultimately to the audience. Technique is there to help her express what is inside of her. It is as if the guitar is her lover. This just isn't a great guitar album; it is a great album period. Its emotional complexity deepens with each listening. Buy it!
I've also purchased "Romance de Amor" which is extremely good as well (listen to her version of "Requerdos de la Alhambra" as compared to one of her heroes, John Williams on "The Guitarist"), but "Si Ji" is totally unique. Don't miss it.
As an aside, If you do end up buying and enjoying this CD, you might listen to Lily Afshar. The influence of her Persian heritage is similar in effect to "Si Ji" by Yang XueFei. Both artists have breathed life into the modern repertoire of guitar music.
Virtuoso playing and an unusual repetoire.......2005-10-26
I am a classical guitar student, and an over-the-top consumer. So I have a lot (many dozens) of classical guitar CDs. They are for the most part quite good, but they tend to blend. I might be able to distinguish Tennant's Rodrigo or Barrueco's Scarlatti, but too many guitarists play an awful lot of the same repetoire, and they play it quite similarly.
This CD is quite different. The pieces are all Asian in flavor and by composers I had never heard of. And they are quite beautiful. Ms. Yang appears to be quite young, so this could be the start of a long and interesting career. But at least one of the pieces was written for her, so she has already apparently developed a solid reputation.

Awesome.......2007-05-28
This CD is so great it hasn't left my stacker in the car! Paul Kelly is just the quintessential aussie, and this CD always makes me feel like i'm home (even though there's 3ft of snow around!) If you want to experience australiana, this CD is for you, if your home-sick, this CD is also for you!
Beautiful Song Writer/Musician.......2003-09-25
I was introduced to Paul Kelly's music while I lived in Australia. It really made an impact on me. I brought it back to the states with me and introduced my friends as well. Everyone agrees he's a talented artist and much over looked in music. I highly recommend anything by him.
Songs From the South.......2002-09-17
As an expatriate Australian, nothing takes me home to Melbourne like Paul Kelly. From the very fist few bars of From St Kilda to Kings Cross, I am transported to "The Armadale Hotel" in Melbourne listening to Paul Kelly and the Coloured Girls. Whenever I have the need for nostalgia, I grab this CD. I just now wish that someone would approach him about a tour to Dubai!
Australia's most popular singer-songwriter.......2002-02-06
Great singer-songwriters are poets: crafting words, capturing times and places, and evoking a sense of what it's like to be living in their world. Paul Kelly does that as well as anyone does, and perhaps better than most. You always feel as though he wears his heart on his sleeve and as you track through this retrospective album, you get a sense of the passages of his life.
But, for American listeners, there is the added dimension that Paul Kelly captures the Australian psyche (such as a self-deprecating sense of humor, a search for national identity, etc), the essence of life in Australia (Aussie Rules football, beaches, mates, etc.), and the issues of a land so very different but so very similar to the US (the plight of the Australian aborigines, the vast landscape, and the search for love in a sometimes loveless society, etc.)
There are many reasons why Paul Kelly is Australia's most popular singer-songwriter and that his songs are known by heart by so many. This album will help you understand why. His style moves from blues to folk to rock, and this album features some of his solo work as well as collaborations with his own band The Messengers and folks like Nick Cave, but it is his voice that is so very distinctive. Absolutely recommended.
Australia's best songwriter.......2001-12-14
Paul Kelly says, in one of his songs, that he is a legend and not a star. This statement could not be more true. Virtually unheard-of outside of Oz, Paul Kelly writes strong lyrics that perfectly capture a moment.
"Songs from the South" is his greatest-hits compilation, released in 1997. Besides his Australian chart-toppers such as "Dumb Things" and "To Her Door", it includes his songs that have become more popular over time such as "Bradman" and "How to Make Gravy".
Spanning Kelly's extensive career, this album provides an excellent introduction to his music. This album is a near-permanent resident in my CD player at work. My officemate, who rarely agrees with my taste in music, has become a fan of the evocative lyrics found on this album.
Paul Kelly has perfected the art of capturing a moment in a song. "When I First Met Your Ma" is a most unlikely love song, with a man telling his child how the man met his wife, the boy's mother. "Deeper Water" is a touching vignette of a man growing up, marrying, having children, and losing his wife to cancer. "Everything's Turning to White" is based on the short story "So Much Water So Close to Home" by Raymond Carver.
If you are not familiar with his music, this is an excellent introduction. However, since this album is only available as an import, it isn't the cheapest way to learn more about this singer-songwriter. Some of Kelly's work has been released in the US, and is thus easier and cheaper to purchase. If this price is a bit too stiff for you, try the US release of "Deeper Water" from 1995, or the upcoming US release of his most recent album, "Nothing But a Dream" (due in early 2002).

Wonderful!.......2007-07-28
For those who know this music from the LP days, it is enough to say that the remastering and transcription to CD are very well done. If anything, the sound is better than on the original LP releases.
For those to whom the music might be unfamiliar, a bit of description is in order.
These are rearrangements of old songs--both traditional and composed--including several well-known Stephen Foster numbers and some ancient traditional ballads and sea shanties. The Norman Luboff choir stands somewhat apart from the tradition of the great choirs of recording history, in that the arrangements are weighted very strongly toward the male voices. In many of the songs the female voices are completely absent, leaving a mens' choir. In others the female voices play a very minor role, serving only as understated accents to the overall harmonic structure. The result is a very smooth, liquid sound, even in the livelier numbers. Apart from that, the Luboff stuff is very much in the tradition of the Fred Waring chorale, the La Sierra Collegians under John T. Hamilton, and other masters of the choral art, although he makes frequent use of folk-type instruments in accompaniment, such as the harmonica. accordian and acoustic guitar--all of them presented with elegant simplicity. Luboffs harmonic structures are frequently more modern, sometimes even a little bit dissonant, without ever becoming unpleasant. Some of the chord progressions are quite unique and interesting in the context of traditional and folk music.
This release is a complete transcription of the two original LP releases of 1956 under the same titles. For those of us who owned, wore completely out, those recordings, this is a very welcome replacement. Of the various albums recorded by Luboff in that period, I liked Songs of the Sea least. Not that it is less well done. It is technically fully the equal of all the others. I just didn't like the songs as well. My favorite, I think the best work Luboff ever did, is Songs of the West. I enthusiastically concur with the other reviewers that that album MUST be re-issued. I hope the delay is in the spirit of seeking perfection in the remastering. The music deserves the very best that modern technology can offer.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I have to report that Luboff rehearsed his group on the campus of the White Memorial Hospital in East Los Angeles, where my wife was a student nurse and my sister worked in the medical records department. It was a wonderful privilege to be able to stick one's nose into the rehearsal room and watch the great musicianship of Norman Luboff as he coaxed such wonderful sounds out of his singers.
Defective DVD.......2007-03-09
The music is great, but the recording is not good. After returning the first copy because of dead spots and a repeat, I received a second copy that was still defective. I decided to keep this second copy as one defect cured itself and the other is just a brief skip. Amazon's handling of the problem was fine as they did replace it and then offered a refund.
Norman Luboff Choir - Soothing and Inspirational.......2006-10-01
All of this music I find soothing and uplifting. Some of it evokes a nastalgic journey back to my youth. I love the harmonic blend of voices.
Dang, I wish the Songs of the West album would be released on CD !
BB
Beautiful Songs for not less Beautiful Voices.......2006-08-09
They're beautiful songs with not less beautiful voices, it's a great pleasure to hear them all, they're very well sung and the Choir is perfectly conducted by Mr. Luboff.
My only Wish is that Columbia Records or Collectables bring out again on CD every recording they had with Songs of the West.
transfixed horror.......2006-03-15
The deep sickness manifested by this kind of music can not be described, it must be heard. Norman Luboff had a talent for taking wonderful old folk songs and stirring spirituals, sapping the life from them like a vampire drains the blood from a comatose victim, and making them sound as if they were being sung by a church choir on quaaludes. Listening to it is akin to gawking at a traffic accident or a freak-show monster, with a reaction of transfixed horror.

Selections from the Greatest Voice of the Last Hundred Years.......2007-03-13
Mario Lanza was, arguably, the greatest tenor and greatest singer of this and the last century. It is difficult to appreciate him without listening to a variety of selections. This collection has some of his best recordings and exhibits the versatility and variety that he possessed that permitted him to "crossover" from opera to popular music with a ease.
I recommend this for those who already know Lanza to some extent but want to go into more depth and understand his marvelous skills.
A Must Have .......2006-12-12
I had forgotten what a beautiful voice Mario Lanza had. This collection contains opera and pop selections that exhibit the power yet sweetness of his voice. Fortunately, we have his CD's and videos so we can remember and listen to his gorgeous, vibrant voice and personality. I highly recommend this collection along with his wonderful movies, especially The Great Caruso.
The Mario Lanza Collection.......2006-11-10
I had forgotten just how beautiful a voice from the past was. It is a wonderful collection
The MARIO LANZA Collection.......2006-08-19
extract from most important LPs. Brilliant sound quality from RCA. Also included are soundtrack recordings from some of his movies. The are several reissues from Mario Lanza but this one is a collection you should have.
WONDERFUL!!!!!.......2005-10-19
The Mario Lanza Collection is a three CD set and it has 61 songs and they all sound great. The mastering on this set is excellent and the song choice is very very good. It would have been perfect if they added a forth CD with more Arias, Italian songs and Sacred Arias. BUT still this set is a great introduction to Lanza. Lanza's voice was powerful and beautiful; if you are a fan of great singing, you will love Lanza. Highlights on this CD set are; Be my Love, Because your Mine, Serenade, With a Song in My Heart, Temptation, The Lord's Prayer, Ciribirbin, O Solo Mio, Ariverducci Roma, and on and on. They are many many great songs on this set, and I highly recommend it.

Album Description
SOUTHERN SOLDIER is a collection of songs and melodies which were well known to Southerners and Northerners alike; tunes that were a familiar and comfortable part of life in the years leading up to the War Between the States. Many of these compositions were written by the likes of Stephen Foster and Daniel Emmett, who were giants of the popular music industry of their day.
Some of the titles, OL' DAN TUCKER, DIXIE'S LAND and ARKANSAS TRAVELER are still familiar to the modern-day ear. Other titles on this album, though not familiar to the eye, will be quickly recognizable to the ear. ALL selections on this album are performed on authentic instruments of the period and were chosen for the appealing nature of their rhythms and melodies. They are presented with as unique and individual a spirit as one might expect from a true Confederate camp band of the era.
Over the years since 1989, when the band was formed, we have made a concerted effort to grow in the music and the history of those times. This collection of songs and melodies that the soldiers brought with them from home to the war represents the fruit of that growth. It was and continues to be our intent as a group of musicians and living historians to try to capture the spirit and emotion of those tumultuous years. We believe that this album, SOUTHERN SOLDIER, has succeeded in that effort.
Customer Reviews:
Oh Lud!.......2007-01-22
I found this recording while searching the web for additional lyrics to Ol' Dan Tucker to sing for my granddaughter. She now prefers the singing of the 2nd SCSB to mine. I've forgiven her for that.
The musicianship on this CD is adequate, with Marty Groody's whistle and fife playing being very good. To my ear, the lead vocals and harmony are very well done, their voices perfect for this genre. The song selection is a wonderful representation of songs from the Civil War era, all played and sung in authentic period style. The 2nd SCSB's strongest suit is that they play and sing the songs with great affection and passion. Their versions of Southern Soldier, Dixie's Land and others are stirring and not to be missed. I really like it when artists pack the maximum music, time wise, on a CD. The running time for this disc: 73+ minutes!
Southern Soldier.......2007-01-11
By far this is one of the most superb Civil War Period music. Listing to the title track southern soldier brought tears to my eyes, thats all i have to say
Great CD!!.......2006-11-21
Like someone said before: The Dixie version of this is worth the whole CD. All of the songs are great!
Great Album.......2006-11-10
I really enjoy this album. In fact, I listen to it over and over. It's worth it for "Southern Soldier" alone. As often as I listen to the entire album, I listen to this song even more often.
Dixie.......2006-02-17
The version of Dixie on this CD is beyond wonderful! This one song is well worth the price of the whole shebang.

Album Description
The 2nd South Carolina String Band recorded their first album, WE'RE TENTING TONIGHT, in 1991. Containing 15 of the most popular songs of the War Between the States, it was well received from the start and continues to have strong appeal. In fact, it was so well received that the band was encouraged to produce a second album, WE ARE A BAND OF BROTHERS, released two years later in 1993. This recording profited from the experience gained since the first - being produced in a better studio with better technology - as well as from two years of performances together by a band whose reputation was rapidly spreading. This second album contained another 15 of the most well known songs of the era, thus making the two together a sort of "Top 30" of the Civil War.
Many years later, these albums continue to attract listeners and fans, new and old. So much so that, pursuant to countless requests to bring them both out on CD, we have done just that! We are proud to offer our first two albums together at last on one recording. The best of WE'RE TENTING TONIGHT and WE ARE A BAND OF BROTHERS, are here presented with a driving, spirited and exciting sound worthy of the men whose memory and spirit we strive to honor and evoke.

South Carolina Leads the Way - Again!.......2007-03-09
This CD is probably the best yet for Civil War music enthusiasts who like their music authentic and earthy. The String Band have managed to capture the essence of music as the soldiers would have heard and played it. I particularly enjoyed the version of 'When Johnny Comes Marching Home', and I defy anybody not to give a 'Rebel Yell' when listening to 'Jine The Cavalry'. I look forward to their next Civil War offering - there are so many great songs just waiting for their special touch!
More than simple songs.......2007-02-13
For me as a german citizen these Songs are very great and I can imagine the time during the Civil War.
I love this item and I want to recommend this music the others, who love such music.
Great Civil War Period Music Collection for the Yanks and Rebs.......2006-04-09
To find period music done correctly takes quite a bit of money - either because the sound and style is too contemporary (updated versions of classic tunes for "today's audience") or the lyrics have changed due to political correctness (can't say that, it might offend whatever group). Believe me, I have spent my share of hard earned cash looking for period correct music only to find the above mentioned problems, even at many sutlers.
But when I find a gem such as this collection by the 2nd South Carolina String Band, I feel it's my duty to get the word out.
This is an excellent source of Civil War era music done completely in a traditional style. It doesn't matter if you are a Billy Yank or Johnny Reb, this collection covers both sides of the conflict. Toe tappin' sing-a-long songs will seemingly take the listener back in time with some of the finest tunes this side of the Atlantic. My favorites include Battle Cry of Freedom, Cumberland Gap, Kingdom Coming, and Lorena. But the ethereal fiddling on the Cavalier's Waltz will set you to tears.
Musical historian or Civil War re-enactor - this collection deserves a high spot in your period music collection.
Hard Road.......2005-09-15
The 2nd SC String Band captures the true sound of Civil War camp music as it was played back then. I have all 3 of their CDs and listen to them every day.
Authenticity over Virtuosity.......2005-05-06
Close your eyes while listening to 2nd South Carolina String Band and you can almost imagine yourself transported in time and space - sitting around a campfire in Northern Virginia or East Tennessee circa 1863. Just don't keep them closed for too long, or you might start to taste hardtack! Yeah, the boys of 2nd South Carolina String Band are that authentic. Their song arraignments are simple and straightforward with no professional polish - played much the same way as young farm boys turned soldiers may have once played them to pass the time in camp. They use only period instruments that could pass muster in the strictest historic re-enactor's camp. If authenticity to period is what you desire, then these boys are the best.
That said, I should point out that these guys have something in common with Bob Dylan - their genius does not necessarily lie in their musical skill. Their voices are untrained and their playing, while adequate and enjoyable, is strictly amateur. It is this amateur quality as much as anything that makes their music sounds so authentic, but it does not make for performances that will blow you away with their virtuosity.
The song selection on `Hard Road' is simply outstanding. In addition to standards like Battle Cry of Freedom and When Johnny Comes Marching Home, they have included some rare gems that for some reason are not often included on period collections. My favorites are the humorous song Invalid Corp, a song mocking those who tried to avoid active service and the lively minstrel show song Kingdom Coming. Tenting on the Old Campground and Vacant Chair add a nice mournful note, and The Bonnie Blue Flag and Jine the Calvary nicely evoke Southern patriotic fever and bravado. Throw in a couple of Stephen Foster's most popular songs, Oh Susanna and Camptown Races, and this collection emerges as darn near perfect!
If you want polished and professional performances you should pass on this CD. But if you would like to hear these songs as your great great grandpa may have heard or even played them around a Civil War campfire with his mess mates, then snatch up Hard Road and get to listing.

beautiful music, excellent voice.......2006-11-06
I believe this is a wonderful CD and you will enjoy it any time. It combines different rithms and Marta's voice is incredible. I love all the songs in the CD.
Songs from the heart.......2006-11-03
I became aquainted with Marta Gomez after hearing her song in the Putamayo CD - Women of Latin America. Looking for more of her work, this was the 1st one I purchased, and I'm glad I did. The combination of her sweet voice with the simple yet full of wisdom lyrics (granted, you have to understand the language) make Cantos de Agua Dulce unbeatable.
Just a note on the name, it should be Songs of the Fresh Water. Similarly the English translation of the lyrics on her web site could be improved a bit.
cantos de agua dulce.......2006-03-01
I like her songs because the thems and her voice that have a unique and sensual expression.
beautiful voice.......2005-08-22
I heard Marta Gomez live in some basement of the Jewish Museum in New York City in July, 05. She sounded like an angel to me and this CD doesn't loose that sound. Good music for background during a dinner party or hanging out at home with my sister.
You can't go wrong with Cantos De Agua Dulce.......2005-08-03
I heard a review of this CD on NPR and ordered it the same day. From beginning to end, it's easy on the ears... Marta's voice is pure and angelic and perfectly supported the sophistically simple play of her band - everything is clear as a bell. I don't understand or speak Spanish and that, to me, is part of the magic - one can revel in the joy of the music itself. On the other hand, my wife does understand most of the lyrics and loves this CD too. We've both given copies of it to family and friends. Throw Cantos De Agua Dulce in your car's CD player and drive. Who know's where you'll end up? But you'll enjoy the journey.... you can't go wrong.

Product Description
In this their fifth album, the 2nd South Carolina String Band once again brings you the songs and music that moved the American people of the early and mid-eighteen hundreds. They play the music that was in the hearts and minds and on the tongues of the citizen-soldiers that made up the ranks of the armies of the North and the South as they marched off to take part in the cataclysmic struggle that was to become the defining event of our nation's history. They play it on instruments of the era and in an authentic manner and style that carries the listener back to simpler times. They play with a verve and excitement that infects even the most reserved listener with their own enjoyment and brings back to vibrant life the tumultuous energy of the American experience during the War Between the States. To experience the 2nd South Carolina String Band is, for a moment, to reach out and touch the past.

Dulcimer Melodies 2nd. South Carolina String Band.......2007-01-12
Very tuneful CD. Up to band's usual standards
IT JUST DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!.......2006-10-11
The boys from the second south have done it again! They have once again captured the feel
and the mood of a bygone era, these are highly talented musicians who are quite simply the best
at what they do, and that is make the best civil war era music available today. Dulcem Melodies
proves it again. This, like all of the second south's music is one of those rare cd's that you will listen
to for hours. congradulations gentlemen, job well done!
Dulcem Melodies.......2006-09-26
While some die-hard fans of The Second South may wonder about whether this album marks a departure from their old, tried-and-true formula of foot-stompin' music,...fear not! You will not be disappointed!!
This latest collection entitled, "Dulcem Melodies" (while boasting a few worthy examples of the aforementioned raucous genre such as, "Hawks and Eagles"), generally tends more toward the Victorian parlor than the Civil War campfire. But the results are highly entertaining.
Not surprisingly, in the process this album clearly demonstrates the musicianship and stylistic versatility of the lads of the Second South. "Dulcem Melodies" lives up to its name by serving up many selections of the sweetest melodies of the Civil War era including a hauntingly beautiful version of "The Minstrel Boy", the sentimental waltz, "Evalina" and the Stephen Foster classic, "My Old Kentucky Home". The band's instrumentation and arrangements are strongly derived from the original 19th century sheet music, but with enough original creativity to make each selection a truly artful and fresh interpretation. In a sense "Dulcem Melodies" completes a musical transition that began with the "In High Cotton" album of a few years back. Once again, I believe this evolving group of talented musicians have another hit on their hands. Bravissimo!
Outstandin CD... the Best Yet from the Boys of the 2nd South !!!!.......2006-09-17
The "Lads" of the 2nd South String Band have done it again!!! It seems that with every new CD the Band produces, They just get better and better. If you close your eyes and sit back , you are" Magically transported round the Rebel Campfire". The tunes and songs on "Dulcem Melodies" are artfully performed and convey the true feeling of being a part of this Southern Band of Brothers. Hard Crackers is certainly worthy of a Grammy Nomination. Amazing Grace and The Minstrel Boy "left a sad lump in my throat". Every selection on Dulcem Melodies is a Jem. The "Musicality" and Historic Research of the Music Selections of the 2nd South clearly designate them as the one truly 'Authentic Civil War Band' performing today. These "Good Ould Boy's" can really do it all. They are the one Civil War Band that represents what it was to be a Southern Civil War Soldier who had only themselves to maintain their morale . The Music of the 2nd South's 'Dulcem Melodies' is a Virtual Audio Recruitment Poster .It makes me want to "Take up My Musket" and "Soldier" with the Boys of the 2nd South. Walk Proud Lads . This truly is the 2nd South's "BEST "Work Yet!!!!!!
