There's nothing like a Gwen Stefani disc to rip you from your pop comfort zone and, in the pleasantest way possible, knock you around a bit. On The Sweet Escape, the blows arrive roughly every four minutes: a yodel ("Wind It Up") skitters off ceremoniously before the title track, featuring Akon, catches you off guard with its infectious yelps of "Woo-hoo, YEE-hoo!," and the pouty rap of "Orange County Girl" has barely petered out before we're vectored somewhere back toward the '80s with the indie rock-ish "Early Winter." That the sound of these songs doesn't follow a formula--that they pounce wherever they please, without regard for genres or decades--is no big whoop; this is Gwen Stefani, after all, and her up-for-anything, play-along fans probably wouldn't have it any other way. More surprising is the extent to which Stefani inserts what seems to be her genuine self into the music: "4 in the Morning," a Madonna-reminiscent midtempo groover, drops the wide-eyed Betty Boop pose and basks in a rarely plumbed depth of feeling ("I give you everything that I am / I'm handing over everything that I've got / 'cause I wanna have a really true love," she sings with something like sincerity). A single track later, she's owning up to motherhood in the sexiest, most unapologetic way possible: "I know you've been waiting," she pants, "but I've been off making babies / And like a chef making donuts and pastries / It's time to make you sweat." Lyrics don't get much cleverer than the ones to "Breakin' Up," a kiss-off disguised as a dropped cell phone call, and sounds don't get much swizzier than the ones on "Now That You Got It." Which is to say that Gwen's got game--as much as on Love.Angel.Music.Baby, if not more--and that anytime she's prepared to hollaback, the world will do well to listen. --Tammy La Gorce

Some people are close minded, they wont give this album 1 chance because they miss No Doubt..dont get me wrong I LOVE No Doubt...but Gwen is doing her thing now,and I respect that..this album is really interesting and cool..some of my favorites songs here are 4 In the morning,Now That You Got It,Wonderful Life,Flourescent and many others, Gwen likes doing this music, and i love listening..so Keep em comin'!!!so some people need to get over themselves

Not normally my bag, but..........2007-07-13

I love this album. Every now and then, I find a top40 album worth buying. The singing is creative. The beats infectuous. 'Sweet Escape' is pure ear candy. Anyone buying the album expecting No Doubt will be disappointed, but it holds up on it's own.

Currently, it's in the CD changer and will remain there for awhile. If I were blind, I'd still love Gwen's music. Thank Heavens I can see. Gwen looks like someone who'd be fun to Kiss.

much better album than lamb, imo. More sythenic and current, more confident. She doesn't seem as nervous and unsure of herself on this one. Of course this isn't in the same league as her stuff with no doubt. Don't even bother if you want another return of saturn, but you should have learned that the first time around. This is supposed to be a fun, guilty pleasure.

Of course it does come across as a bit calculating and jerky. It has plenty of variety. It's just fun, dumb pop music. Excellently done dumb pop music. And it sure beats Fergie.

I don't think that this Album is better than L.A.M.B, but I still think that it is good. I am a little disipointed that the songs don't sound like the 80's and 90's like L.A.M.B did. I think that guy named ROCKET or wutever who rote about this Ablum is STUPID!!!! With a capital S. Wonderful life is not the only good song on the Album! There si Early Winter, 4 in the morning, Yummy, Flourescent, and more! And what does that guy mean that Gwen lost all of her fans 21 and up? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard! My teacher (27) loves Gwen? so does my sister (25) my mom (43) and eaven our nabor (50)! I mean come on! All in All this is a great Album that you will love

Escape, the 12th studio recording from pianist Jim Brickman, comes from a new label (SLG Records instead of Windham Hill) but follows a familiar formula, mixing instrumentals (nine of them) with radio-oriented vocal selections (three) in an effort to snare the largest possible audience and keep all camps in his fan base happy. The result is an easy-to-digest, easy-to-like disc that, in general, should make fans of Brickman's piano-only works content. While not as deeply evocative as his earliest releases, Escape features some lovely instrumentals ("Waterfall," "Awakening," "Big Sky," "First Light," and "Timeless") that will remind longtime fans of what attracted them to Brickman in the first place. And two of the vocal tracks--"Never Alone," sung by country artist Sara Evans, and the cheery "When It Snows," handled by under-the-radar vocalist Geoff Byrd--are as engaging as any pop selections Brickman has previously recorded. The generic title track, a bit of samba-lite with guitarist Marc Antoine, falls flat, and a few tracks would be better off without the swelling cymbal crashes. Overall, though, Escape is exactly that--pleasant, uncomplicated, escapist listening. --Terry Wood

Sounds A Bit Like M E H D I.......2007-07-24

Oh, Wow! This is a cd that will be liked by all who enjoy M E H D I, E N Y A or even Y A N N I . It is the very essence of good new age. So tranquil, yet so spirited, this cd is a refreshing break from my well-worn collection, I just keep wanting to listen to it over and over again. I am amazed! It reminds me somewhat of his previous works, but still very unique. This is music to the soul. Absolutely relaxing, as well.

More Mediocrity from Brickman.......2007-05-13

I've been aware of Jim Brickman's work for quite a while, as I worked with him a number of years ago. At the time, my co-workers and I were not big fans of Jim's music but we supported it because we had to. One guy I worked with described his work as "soulless" while a female colleague said "Listening to Jim's music is like listening to the color white."

Sadly, my co-workers' comments still hold up. With his latest album, "Escape," it's apparent that Brickman's style hasn't changed that much over the years. It's still pleasant, New Agey background music -- so inoffensive that it becomes offensive! If this genre is your cup of tea, that's fine -- but do yourself a favor and buy something by Yanni or even John Tesh.

A Nice Escape.......2007-02-24

ESCAPE has got to be the best CD Jim has to date! The only other artist I truly enjoy as much as Jim is "Mehdi"... An absolute Jewel, but I won't go into that here.

I have been a fan for about 11 years and throughly enjoy the solo pieces. Jim has come up with beautiful pieces to help us "escape" in our individual ways. The vocals, "Never Alone" with Sara Evans and "When It Snows" with Geoff Byrd blend ever so nicely on this CD. If you are a fan of solo piano and want to be transported to another place for awhile, "Escape" will not disappoint you at all!

YOU CAN TELL JIM BRICKMAN HAS A NEW RECORD LABEL AND A BIT OF A NEW SOUND. THIS CD IS GREAT. THE TITLE CUT HAS A LITTLE BIT OF A SPANISH/LATINO FLARE TO IT. AS ALWAYS HE DELIVERS SOOTHING, CALMING,MUSIC YOU CAN ESCAPE WITH. FROM THE SONGS, BARCELONA TO WINTER WALTZ TO TIMELESS, AND ENDING WITH MY ANGELS, IT IS ALL DIFFERENT PIANO SOUNDS/SONGS.NOT A TYPICAL JIM BRICKMAN CD, (AND I LOVED ALL THOSE) BUT I TRUELY APPRECIATE HIS NEW SOUND, HE HAS TRUELY GROWN AS AN ARTIST.

Excellent CD. Just about every song is enjoyable. Saw her in concert after purchasing it and loved the CD even more. Not to be a prude, but definitely prefer the edited version.

Where this album never followed the classical Gwen that we are used to the different experimentations she did with garage sounding beats were well worth the effort. I highly reccomend purchasing this CD.

Sweet Escape is good, the others not so good..........2007-05-04

I have listened to many albums from artists that have managed to come up with a single hit with other songs included as filler. Unfortunately, This album falls exactly into this category.

The hit song on the album - "The Sweet Escape" is far and away one of the best and one of the most popular songs according to the number of downloads for it. Unfortunately, the other songs on the album are not even close to this masterpiece. I think Gwen Stefani is very talented, but she should work with very talented song writers (like A. Thiam and G. Tuinfort - the other authors of Sweet Escape). I give 5+ stars for the Sweet Escape and maybe a generous 2 stars for the other songs...

A Good Follow-up to Hariku Lovers.......2007-03-07

Gwen is showing us that she may not win the Grammys but she is a superstar with staying power. Though a tad below Hariku Lovers, it shows that Gwen doesn't need No Doubt to be great (her single style is more "pop" than the more "metal" No Doubt sound). She announced that her next project is with No Doubt. I hope that she continues to do both solo and group stuff.

If Ricky Martin is the party boy of Latin crossover pop, Enrique Iglesias is more a romantic traditionalist in the mold of dad Julio. Even his uptempo, lust-driven tunes, like this album's "Love 4 Fun" and "One Night Stand," are hardly the frantic sweatfests Martin provides. Escape, Iglesias's first disc since his 1999 Top 40 breakthrough, is already a guaranteed success thanks to its first single, "Hero," which gained attention when he performed it on the September 2001 Tribute to Heroes. Title aside, this gooey love song isn't really fitting for its adopted purpose as a post-terror anthem ("You can take my breath away"?), but one imagines that won't make much difference. Iglesias is at his best when playing a little sly, like when he appropriates Nelly's "E.I." chant on "Don't Turn Off the Lights" or makes a barely veiled suggestion of what he really likes about you in the opening lines of "She Be the One." --Rickey Wright

Enrique is my best male singer.. i love listening to any of his songs but my best is "Love for fun"..my friends thinks his style is sissy but i think he's music is unique..i never get tired of listening to his music day and night..'Don't turn off the lights" and "Escape" reminds me a lot of my days at an all-girls boarding school..we used to have social gatherings with a boys college and these two songs used to play at the dance programme..and we used to really love dancing to them...well, unfortunately, i don't really know the words to some of the songs..I'm kinda from a developing country and would love to know where i can get lyrics for enrique's songs...

Great second english album by Enrique. .......2006-01-06

This is an amazing album by Enrique. It is one of his best and most theatrical works. This is a pop album that really got him a lot of attention, and made him a bigger star then he already was. Escape is one of Enrique's most mainstream records. He scored massive #1's with the songs "Hero" and "Escape". "Love To See You Cry" was another great single, and while sounding very groove still managed to sound very latin. A very smooth track for the album. "Maybe" was yet another single and a nice ballad. "Don't Turn Off The Lights" was a great Rock/Pop song and was also a single. "Escape" itself was one of Iglesias's most popular songs along with "Hero". It was a great Pop track and got plenty of radio play. Instead of giving info on the singles ( which you've probably all heard already) ill stick to commenting on the non-single songs on the album.
It's not just the great singles from the album that make it an enjoyable listen. There are also non-single tracks on the album that make it fun to listen to. This I believe is part of the key to it's massive success.
"Love 4 Fun" is one of the albums fun pop tracks and aswell as having a great tune and lyrics it has a great bridge. "When you don't have a place to go, and everything feels the same. I can change what you think you know. Makin' Love my way".
"I'm makin' love for fun. Why would you do it any other way ?"
Great song to listen to. very fun and uplifting.
"I Will Survive" is another fun song off the album. It has a great atmosphere to it, and it is about a girl who has cheated with Enrique, but he know's he will survive.
This song like many on Escape just has a great tune, great lyrics. Great everything. It's a real fun track to listen to.
"One Night Stand" is a good song. It sounds quite groove with a bit of guitar in it. the lyrics go "Now i'm left up in my lonely room. She left her underwear and her perfume. I never thought that it could've felt this good, and I still feel her lips upon my fingertips." The lyrics are quite suggestive, but the song is not to deep, because it has a great tune and beat to it.
"If The World Crashes Down" is another great sounding song off Escape. It has good guitars in it, another great tune like many of the songs on this album. The lyrics are also uplifting.
"You make me strong. You make me weak. You lift me off my feet. You give me hope when all my dreams seem like their out of reach. You make me understand the way the perfect love should be. You take me to a place so high, I never wanna' leave."
This is one of my favourite songs from Escape because it is so uplifting. "You Whisper in my ear the words You're so close tonight. Hold me Tonight. and when the pain is holding me, your touch sets me free. Sometimes I think of all the things I should've said. I hope it's not too late. Wanna' make you understand. If the world crashes down over me. I know that my life is complete. Cos' iv'e held you in my arms all night. Cos' I can't imagine life without you by my side" There are also some great deep guitar riffs in this song.
"She Be The One" is another good song. It sounds a little latin, and very cool. It talks about the girls who all the guys want, but there seductive and dangerous. "Don't fool yourself. You Can't stop it if you try. She's gonna take you low. She's gonna take you high. never get enough." goes the lyrics.
"She hits the club, and everybody watches. and when she dances everybody want's it. The kinda' girl you kinda' gotta watch. She might just get away. She makes you wait. She likes to play that kinda' game. She takes your money. You gladly give it all away. She makes you nasty. Even wanna' feel pain. Then she'll make you born again". Great song on a great album.
Escape is a fun record and one of Enrique's best. It delivers some great Pop Music. It is a great listen, and a must own for any music fan. ENRIQUE FANS MUST HAVE THIS ALBUM !!!

I first heard this album when a friend of mine put "Escape" on and somehow hit "repeat." I was totally captured by his voice and made a fan immediately. I finally broke down and bought this album.

I also purchased this CD based on the reviews and I'm truly glad that I did. This is Mehdi at his best. I've only listened to it a a few times since I received it, but I know I'll be playing it often. It's especially nice in the car, because it brings the surrounding natural scenery to life. Recommended !

Nice, but not the best I've ever heard........2007-06-29

I bought this based on other review I read on Amazon cold-turkey. It's nice, but not up to the calibur of other albums I have in the same genra.

I wouldn't not recommend it, but I wouldn' rave over it either.

Gorgeous sound !.......2007-06-25

A DJ here in Austin insists on calling Mehdi, "The Jewel of public television." While many of his fans are probably jealous that there's actually a station here that gives him airtime (KGSR, 107.1 -- a near identical twin of KBCO Boulder, 97.3), I've patiently combed public TV listings for months, and never seen his name once. Woe is me!

Ever since some cognoscenti used a snippet of his "Wedding Song" as background on an episode of "Northern Exposure," I've been hooked on Mehdi's compelling blend of inspiring melodies and middle eastern rhythms. The California Native and his bandmates are wizards with their instruments. Volume 8 Instrumental Paradise is a must for any fan of Mehdi's music; and I can think of no better way for someone unfamiliar with his sound to become acquainted.

Living up to the moniker originally given them via a San Francisco radio contest, Journey traveled a restless, often less-than-promising arc as a prog-centric quartet during the early '70s. But the addition of Steve Perry's soaring tenor to the mix on 1978's Infinity instantly changed the band's fortunes, which arguably peaked on this 1981 release. A great album!.......2007-06-29

I so fondly remember those days in the late 1970s and early 80s, when Journey burst onto the scene. And, I clearly remember 1981, when their album Escape came out and rocketed to #1 on the album charts. With such songs as Don't Stop Believin', Who's Crying Now, and Open Arms, it was practically the soundtrack of 1981!

Well, it's now back again! This CD is a reissue of the 1996 remastered album, plus 4 bonus tracks. La Raza Del Sol was on the b-side of the single "Still They Run," and the other three are from their November 6, 1981 concert in Houston. Also, check out the liner notes, which have some great pictures!

Overall, I think that this is a great album! It has that nice sound of Journey that you heard on the radio (the studio tracks), and some great live tracks. I love this album, and give it my highest recommendations!

True classic 80's rock.......2007-03-24

This one brings back so many memories from the early 80's! That is what I think is the best part of listening to this CD!
My favorite track is "stone in love" because of the 2nd half of the song's rock montage! It always gets me psyched up for anything! Not to forget the rest of the tracks, which range from great love ballads to simple blues rock. I highly recommend this one, which is Journey's greatest CD!

Journey's biggest and best album.......2007-03-24

Perfection doesn't age.......2007-02-26

I started typing this review as Stone in Love from the Summit DVD concert is playing on my TV. We are on Keep on Running right now. This album is I think as close to perfect as any of the hundreds of CD's I have. Almost 30 years after it was initially released it sounds as good, fresh, energetic, etc. as I recall hearing it as a boy in my early teens. I think this was the "hungry" band at their realized peak and Frontiers was the follow up. But with Frontiers Journey was at the top and trying to stay there. Frontiers has an aged feel to me, but Escape...WOW....With La Raza Del Sol added you won't be dissiapointed either.....Journey para vida....Journey for life

A great cd.......2007-01-24

The enhanced version of Escape is great, has a few more songs, like La Raza Del Sol, by the way, a great song. If you are a hard core Journey fan like myself, I suggest getting this disk. You will really enjoy everything.

John Williams' lovely and moving score for the sixth Star Wars film brings thirty years of collaborating on George Lucas' beyond-popular intergalactic franchise to a close. (Is this really the end of Star Wars? Can't Lucas and Williams work together on a prequel to these prequels? Let us hope so, and that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere near it.) As this music accompanies the most exciting Star Wars film in many a moon, the soundtrack itself is more fun, more evil, more nasty and bumpy. Many of the heroic, anthemic themes woven throughout Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith will necessarily be familiar to any fan of the series, from the "Imperial March" to the main theme. It's remarkable how stirring the latter can be, no matter how many times you've heard it, and even for those who do not have all their money invested in S.W. memorabilia. There is a lot of new music here, and the lush, extensive range of both Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra is on display, most notably in the menacing, percolating "General Grievous" and the rousing "New Hope" end theme. --Mike McGonigal

The bonus dvd with this soundtrack was the reason I purchased. I enjoy film soundtracks, and science fiction, but this dvd was a real highlight for me. I got the soundtrack cd out of the local library. The cd was missing from the case, but I found this wonderful dvd instead that I went out to purchase later.

With optional segments of dialog from Ian McDiarmid, this film is a stunning visual and musical overview of the full epic story of episodes I-VI of Star Wars. For those of us who felt that eps. IV-VI fell short of our expectations, this film presents them well as parts of the whole story. The Musical Journey also stands as a summary of the entire SW opus for someone who is not familiar with the Star Wars characters and plot. Highly recommended.

The Episode III soundtrack is very good. Not great, but very, very good. You can tell that Williams is getting old, but he still manages to weave together a very memorable score.

My favorite tracks are "Battle of the Heroes," "Anakin's Betrayal," Palpatine's teachings, "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan," and the "Immolation Scene."
The others are very good as well, but these are especially nice. "Battle of the Heroes" is Dual of the Fates for Revenge of the Sith. "Anakin's Betrayal" is a very sad track that is, in my opinion, one of William's most powerful pieces. "Palpatine's Teachings" is really, really neat. It's very dark and moody, a perfect piece for the evil emperor. The only weird thing is the end. "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan" is the action piece that plays during the battles of Anakin and Obi-Wan, and Yoda and the Emperor. Finally, "The Immolation Scene" is another sad piece, even more so than "Anakin's Betrayal."

Although I really like this CD, there are some things that are missing (as usual). First, the whole sequence where the droids are looking for Obi-Wan after he was shot. You see Obi-Wan in his ship with Senator Organa on the Hologram (or whatever it is), and Obi-Wan says that his clones turned on him. That was some pretty awesome music that OF COURSE was left out of the CD. Then there was Dual of the Fates in the movie, but completely absent from the CD. And probably the most annoying was that whole piece of music before Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. It was so touching and sad and I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT IT OUT! Absolutely amazing. Also, did anyone notice that some little bits were cut out? For example, in Anakin vs. Obi Wan, they cut out about a second or two of choir. What?! What the heck is with that? It's when Anakin is running on the long thing and jumps on the droid on the lava. Also, there was some pretty cool drumming when you see Yoda and the Emperor fighting, and you can see the whole stadium (the big room). There's also drumming in "Enter Lord Vader" that is muted in the soundtrack.

Oh well...if I'm going to collect movie scores, I'm going to have to get used to the fact that in almost all cases there's not going to be every bit of music. I've experienced this in both Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park I (there was very little left out on this score), and almost everything else. At the moment, I'm just waiting for the 22nd, for the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 soundtrack. It's gonna be amazing.

John Williams' finest work.......2007-04-20

There is little more I can say that hasn't already been said about the soundtrack to Episode 3, especially what Amazon contributor Dan Mohr wrote in his review of the soundtrack on 2/2/2006. His review captured almost all the thoughts, feelings, and emotions I had when I first listened to the soundtrack, and was, IMO, the best review of John Williams' greatest masterpiece.

Having said that, I will say that few soundtracks have ever so perfectly captured the underlying emotional currents of their respective movie; in the case of ROTS, the contemporaneous tragedies of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, the extermination of the Jedi, and the rise of the oppressive Empire. The listener is confronted with the depth and totality of the evil that has beset the entire galaxy to a degree that the film could not reach in only 2 hours.

Bravo, Dan Mohr, and BRAVO John Williams!

A Great Conclusion to the Prequel Trilogy.......2007-04-07

This is a great work of art. I rank it 4th among Star Wars soundtracks after A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Phantom Menace. I had a hard deciding which I thought was better, The Phantom Meance or Revenge of the Sith, but I decided that The Phantom Menace lays the foundation for so much that is in this soundtrack and is thus the more masterful work. But that doesn't mean that this score still isn't great. Every piece is a thrill to listen to and pace never lets up. "Battle of the Hereos" is an amazing piece and the rendition of the "Funeral Theme" from Episoded I captures the film's tragety magnificently. Also I do not think John Williams could have portrayed the Jedi's extinction more perfectly than he did in "Anakin's Betrayal". This is without a doubt the best score of 2005 and one of the best of the decade.

Williams is slumming it.......2007-04-01

Williams's score for Revenge of the Sith is almost entirely overbearing, lacking any emotional subtlety. The music is overcomplicated and even a bit confusing, especially in the tracks that correspond to action sequences in the movie. His overuse of choral tracks and vocals is too bombastic and irritating to be listened to without the explosions and laser blasts of the soundtrack to soften them. (Yes, this music is actually softened by the sounds of warfare.) Worst of all, much of the music has simply been lifted from earlier scores. At times his self-imitation was so blatant that I actually wondered whether the editor who had complied this score had made a mistake and I was listening to The Empire Strikes Back or A New Hope. Also suffers from not including the entire score, in some cases cutting out musical segues in obvious and awkward ways.

Ah, escape the fate, not the best band name ive heard but dont let that make you dismiss the band right away. Their first full length, dying is your latest fashion is the followup to a great EP titled there is no sympathy for the dead. listening to the band you wont find anything really revolutionary here or something that hasnt been done before, yet ronnie's voice is rather distinguishable, sort of reminds me From First to Last on Dear Diary if you've listened to that. The screaming is fantastic. if you enjoy the whole emo/screamo hardcore scene then give this a try. i promise you wont be disappointed.
Each track gives you a reason to listen to it over and over again, i found this cd rising on my top play list extremely fast and it always seems to find its way back into my car cd player.
they have some awesome guitar riffs, and solos. i found the singing/screaming combination to be perfect as well.
stand out tracks are: The web we weave, when i go out i want to go out on a chariot of fire, situations, the guillotine, cellar door, my apocalypse, and the day i left the womb
pick this album up now if you want something that you will enjoy listening to over and over. even if the whole "screamo" thing has been done to death.

Worth the money.........2007-03-13

Honestly, I had every track on this CD before it was released. I paid for this album anyway, because I thought it was that good. A lesson that if you make good music people will support you anyway.

However, there are people who would not be happy in heaven. Who will tell you how sorry they are to have heard this disc, and rave about the EP.. which I don't understand, because I listened to them when they first debuted on Epitaph's homepage, and think they've only gotten better.

The only thing I found I did not like on the full length was that two of the songs I really liked on the EP (As You're Falling Down, and The Ransom.) were not present on their full length. I'd have liked them to replace 'The Day I Left The Whom' with 'As You're Falling Down'. That would have overall added one more heavy, and very powerful song to this album.

But, I guess if they put ALL the good songs on the album then nobody would buy the EP, and just wait for this CD. (I'd have bought the EP too if Hot Topic had it.. but they only had the full album. =[)

Everyone in the band excluding the drummer has a place in the vocals which makes for a wonderful harmony alongside the screaming guitars, and rhythmic drums. I found the lyrics to actually be nice contrary to what others have posted; at times they do strike a dull note I'll admit.

Some of the songs are a little more mainstream rock sounding such as Situations, and the single Not Good Enough For Truth In Cliche. So if a little variation does not scare you go ahead and pick this album up.

Impressive Full-Length Debut.......2007-01-05

I've read a lot of the negative reviews for Escape The Fate's new CD Dying Is Your Latest Fashion. Apparently just because they are in the whole "emo" scene all their material must suck. I'm not an "emo/screamo" fan, but this is still an impressive release.

Lyrics are hit and miss. The writing is really good in some parts and just cheesy in others. Musically though, this is very strong. The guitars are pretty good for this to be their first full-length CD ("There's No Sympathy For The Dead" is a track that showcases some of the better guitar work.) The vocals are what impresses me the most. Although the lyrics might at times be subpar the vocals are always top notch. The flow between clean and scream vocals is really tight. They employ clean vocals, the higher pitch "screamo"-type voices, and death vocals, all which work flawlessly.

"The Guillotine" and "There's No Sympathy For The Dead" can both be found on their debut EP and "Situations" can be found on the Unsound compilation from Epitaph Records. So I already knew somewhat of what to expect from this band. "Reverse This Curse" is my personal favorite track. All the tracks are solid so you don't need to use the skip button for this release.

Listening to the CD you can tell they went for a home run at their first at bat with this release. They have the confindence and attitude of a band that has been around for years. With a little maturing and some improvement to some of the songwriting, Escape The Fate has the chance to really make it big. Don't pigeonhole this band with all the other emo/screamo acts out there. Looking at some of the reviews I think that is what some of these reviewers have done. Give this a chance, you may or may not like it, but don't judge it without actually listening to it and just lump it in with the some of the other junk that is out there. This CD is a bright spot in a very oversaturated and underachieving genre.

This is the best cd ever! If you are in to the emo/screamo/nu-metal/hardcore/etc you will love it. I love all the lyrics. The songs have amazing guitar riffs and the vocals are awesome. Their music makes you want to jump up and down and scream.

Sad, Really Sad.......2007-05-13

These CDs don't meet the standards that I expect from Elmer Bernstein's wonderful film music.
*It's just Boring*
The ensemble doesn't have the energy one would expect to play "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Man with the Golden Arm". I think the City of Prague and National Youth Jazz Orchestras were bargain orchestras used to make an inexpensive CD set of one of my favorite film composers. The conducting and arrangements were what made this an obviously bad album.

it's unfortunate that more tracks weren't able to be recorded as theree was a good 15-20 minutes of space remaining on both discs. Regardless, this is an excellent sampler, especially in conjunction with Varese's Bernstein sampler including rare stuff like the Black Cualdron.

With regards to this silva set, these recordings range back to 1994, with Sons of Katie Elder and True Grit being recorded for a John Wayne CD and Bridge At Remagen for a CD of classic War themes. The Great Escape was also recorded for that CD, but producer James Fitzpatrick opted to record a new arrangement (same with Magnificent Seven). In '97, The Buccaneer for included on a Swashbucklers disc, while Heavy Metal was on the popular 'Space and Beyond' compilation. In '98, the world premiere recording of Airplane first appeared on a DISASTERS film disc. So while it may technically be the world premiere RECORDING it certainly is not the world premiere CD RELEASE of that recording. Ghostbusters was included on Space 3: Beyond the Final Frontier, the second followup to the popular 'Space and Beyond'. Fast forward to 2002 and 4 recordings first appeared on WAY OUT WEST: ESSENTIAL WESTERN FILM MUSIC COLLECTION VOLUME TWO, those being The Comancheros, The Hallelujah Trail, The Scalphunters and The Shootist. Man With the Golden Arm and Walk on the Wild are from Silva's JAZZ IN FILM cd.

The remaining tracks were all newly recorded for this release. They are of course the strongest tracks, seeing as the City of Prague Philharmonic has improved over time. I do wonder though why they did not include the older arrangements of Great Escape and Mag. Seven as bonus tracks.

I also recommend the simultaneously released '40 years of Film Music: Jerry Goldsmith' for another great set honoring a late great film composer.

This is a great recording of some of the best film music ever. From the
great westerns to the Theme from Airplane to music he did for television,
Bernstein was one of the greatest.

It's great! It brings back memories of my dad. He loved John Wayne and the old cowboys of the Magnificent Seven. But it's nice just to listen and relax (it's not all cowboy music).

What an amazing album! This is Karen Marie Garrett's third album, and it is a real find. I am immensely impressed with the delightful melodies which run consistently throughout this album. Tip-Toe Dancer has to be heard to be believed. It is such a beautiful piece of music, and makes the listener want to stand up and start dancing. This track is just one of an album full of highlights. Welcome B and Simple Things are so delicate. This album is produced by Windham Hill founder Will Ackerman. Consequently, the production is first-class. A joy from beginning to end. Bravo!!

"Allure of Sanctuary" is the second CD released by Karen Marie Garrett. It is astounding how much this artist has grown since her 2002 debut, "Pensare Piano." Will Ackerman's gifts as producer certainly helped to make this CD as breathtaking as it is, but if the quality of music isn't there, no producer in the world can give it soul and depth - and this CD has mega-doses of both. A classically-trained pianist from the age of five, Ms. Garrett plays with the strength and emotional clarity that come from years of expressing oneself at the piano, sharing the joys and sorrows of life with the beloved 88's. The twelve pieces include eight original compositions, a lovely arrangement of "The Green Hills" by Brian Gibson, and Erik Satie's "Trois Gnossiennes," performed as originally composed. Most of the pieces are piano solo, but Garrett is joined on two by award-winning cellist Eugene Friesen (I LOVE cello and piano together!). Some of the other tracks have English horn, light percussion, and wordless vocals, but this is truly an incredible piano album.

The CD begins with "Tip-Toe Dancer (Kathryn's Song)," one of the lighter pieces in this collection. It was inspired by a story told by a close friend about a childhood dance performed for friends and family. Graceful yet playful, it is easy to imagine the seriousness of the young dancer and the warm reception of the adults. "Lake EWOK Muse" is an improvisational duet for piano and cello that followed a sunrise meditation beside Lake EWOK at Skywalker Ranch, where the album was recorded. The feeling of serenity envelops you as you listen to the two artists interact seamlessly, creating a perfect sense of peace. "Simple Things" is a celebration that begins in a classical style reminiscent of a children's piano study and evolves, retaining the sweet melody and simplicity of the message but becoming a full and graceful solo. The title track is fascinating. It begins with a mournful piano prelude and becomes a rhythmic dance with a seductive Spanish flavor. Susan Whittle's vocals and percussion provided by Will Ackerman and Derrick Jordan add to the enchantment. "Will's Song" is an improvisational piece that is so deeply felt that it almost sends a chill - what a beauty! "Toll of War (Adagio)" is a wrenching duet for piano and cello. A profound statement of humanity rather than of politics, the sense of loss and pain reach to the depths of the soul. This is a piece that needs to be heard. The gentle, pensive closing track is a solo piano reprise of "Lake EWOK Muse."
