Legendary Music Vol. 1 - 420 Review.......2007-04-10
First off, I have to say I'm really picky when it comes to music, and have very few CD's in my collection that I like to listen to all the way thru. LMvol.1 with the exception of maybe one song is one of those cd's. Another thing I like about this cd is that you don't have to be in a certain mood to listen to it. For me, this cd takes me through all my mood-sets. So whether I'm feelin like some mellow beats or fast-paced rhymes, this cd addresses that nicely.
LL crew still a step above..........2007-03-28
... and I apologize if I didn't always rise to occasion
I had to come of age and apply
My knowledge to my personal experiences,
If I didn't I could have died in all seriousness.
We've come far,
As a person, as a people, as a world
It's time to raise the bar.
It's not hard, just remember who you are...
It's not hard, just remember...
The last track - track 11 - is now my favorite hip hop song. If only it were longer than 3 1/2 minutes and two verses. The 2nd verse is for sure one to remember. If you're a real fan of hip hop or just music in general, please treat yourself and get this album. If you like 50 Cent and Eminem, don't bother. You're not going to hear songs about candy shops or being in da club. It's positive but not cheesy and stupid...
don't know what "huntercat" is talkin bout.......2007-01-25
Arata is tight, no doubt, & if you can track down some older Legends stuff with him on it check it out. That being said, he's not on this album. This is a compilation of songs from the Legends various solo releases in 2006.
Dope from the east.......2005-03-23
Arata is kicking. He is a Living Legend member from back in the day and this is his solo. Most of the rapping is in japanese and is really cool. Arata rapps a little english but is much better with his own language and flow. The beats are top notch and all the way around this is a solid CD. If you are a LL fan you will like Arata

Buy this CD. It's worth it if you like ANY member of the Living Legends crew.
Good Music.......2005-11-12
This album isn't exactly a 'Classic' LL release (like 'Almost Famous') or some of the UHB collabos but this is definitely a good pick-up.
I realize that artists can't keep making the same music and they have to evolve as 'artists', but I will always like old Eligh (As they Pass, A Story of Two Worlds), old Grouch (Don't Talk to Me, Making Perfect Sense), and old Mystik Journeymen (4001, Worldwide Underground) releases more than the newer ones. It must have something to do with the production: their new beats sound overly synthesized. I don't know if i'm too stuck on Ant and 9th Wonder making good music out of other people's music but I'm leaning less towards the Legends nowadays. And will someone please tell Bizarro he needs to get a new job cuz this rappin' thing ain't working out
Classic. Time Will Tell (****).......2005-11-01
When first listening to this album, I didn't know what to expect I knew a little about L.L. however certainly not as much as many peeps in the HH community. When first spoting the album title my initial reaction was 'man that's a big claim' and thought they might just be setting themselves up for a fall yet when the first beat rolls in on the intro, I'd have to say it's one of the best intro i've heard in a while, I started to get the impression they might just of done it. However as the album progresses the real tone of the album is set which for me is that of a little unpredictability. When these guys get it righ tho,t they get it so right songs like good fun, brand new, tears & pain, even though and after I'm gone, raise the bar. However some songs either mis the mark a little or become forgetable like man who sold the world and deepest breath. All in all tho, the guys have definately got chemistry together and have got me doing my research on a back catalogue, that like this album, I'm sure overall won't disappoint.

Not quite a classic, but still good.......2005-03-25
This is a very solid release. Didn't find anything too exciting or new at first but it's growing on me. I would suggest picking this up but only after getting Blueprint's 1988 when it comes out, because that cd is amazing. I'd also pick up The Perceptionists (Mr. Lif and Akrobatik) new cd Black Dialogue first because it is nearly flawless.
Amazing.......2005-03-24
You really have to hear this cd to realize just how incredible it is. Lyrically, production...AMAZING! The Legends have truly grown into a hiphop force, it's just a matter of time til the rest of the nation picks up on it. Every single song on this cd is one of the best i've ever heard. how the legends aren't bigger LIES with the mainstream media holding them down. Fight the power, break the fear, call your local radio stations and rep the LEGENDS BABY!

Funky fresh.......2004-05-12
I thought this was a very good cd put out by the legends. even though this is mostly prevously released SH*T, its still pretty much dope. its a good cd for those that havn't heard the old stuff, plus its good for those who've been looking for these tracks. if you dont like grimy 4-trak recordings, or mellow beats, then this ain't for you, but its legends baby! i also give much props to those guys for being some kool mo fo's, if they come to your town, go see them, their ill live, plus PSC is kool and most likely he's there, he's been there at almost every legends show i've been. and don't get Grouch mad

The real deal.......2006-06-29
I remember Sweet Emma from my first trip to Preservation Hall in the late 1960s. The beanie she wore kind of threw me off, but man, she could play piano with a band. Willie Humphrey on clarinet, another favorite, makes the ensemble even better for me. This is not slicked down, tailored for the commercial market, just a good trad jazz band of old-timers making music the way they always had.
best hall band of all time.......2005-10-17
by far the best of any preserveation hall band that has ever been recorded. willie and percy humprey, jim robinson, mcneil breux, cie frazier, sweet emma, emmanuel sayles. i have the original record and am still buying the cd - and will probably buy a few copies to give out to those uniniated. this music is pure and the real deal - a true representation of the big easy.
Essential CD for all New Orleans jazz fans and collectors!!!.......2000-10-11
Sweet Emma Barrett was little known until this LP was released in 1961, she previously played piano in Oscar "Papa" Celestin's Original Tuxedo Jazz Orchestra, and Sam Morgan's Jazz Band in the 20's in New Orleans. Sweet Emma played piano in many other various New Orleans and traditional jazz bands in new Orleans in the 20's. 30's, 40's, and 50's. She always played with garters on, with bells hanging on the garters, so when she palyed you could hear her jungle(that's how she picked up her nickname "The Ball Lady") Sweet Emma is in fine form(playing piano and singing) as well as her awesome backup group(consisting of the future members of The Preservation Hall Jazz Band). This music is hard swinging New Orleans jazz at it's best. After the release of this popular LP in 61, Sweet Emma went on a world tour and remained actine into the 70's with her new found popularity. This CD belongs in every New Orleans jazz collectors music library. Highly recomended!!!

Customer Reviews:
Why they matter(ed).......2006-06-18
Disembodied paranoid funk with a Burroughs fixation (1978-81). Uneasy listening. This music has an odd, claustrophobic power - it WILL change your mood - that you won't find anywhere else. "Voice of America" and "2x45" work similar territory, with excellent results. This band got seriously lost after 1982, when they decided to "subvert" dance music by making dance music, or something. (I never understood what they were doing.) Willfully avant artists tend to peak early. Start here.
Industrial classic.......2004-08-21
It's absurd that nobody's reviewed this CD yet - it's a true industrial classic. It's a Cabaret Voltaire compilation along the same lines as E.N.'s 'Strategies against architecture' albums. This is the band at its most experimental, constructing grating electronic soundscapes over drum-machine grooves. It sounds fresh and alien, and there's a generous variance of song styles, from dark electro-pop('do the mussolini') to minimalist krautrock jamming('walls of Jericho'). Buy immediately if you have any interest in the origins of industrial music.

Absolutely Amazing.......2006-10-12
This is an amazing album. If you're into the underground hip hop scene, this is a must for your collection. With their amazingly talented, massively poetic lyrics and pulsating, electricfying beats, you can't help but constantly throw this disc on. You don't have to be into the scene to appreciate the art in this music. Your ears and mind will do the judging, concluding Living Legends in fact, as legends. This is one of, if not, the best album from these guys to date.
Outstanding!.......2006-04-25
This is One great great great Album! Hella ill beats, even better lyrics and raps. These guys know how to rap and they do it with more confidence than ive ever heard.
Any head can get down to this awesome number. Buying is a must for any Hip Hop Realest! 5 Stars!
One of the best from the Undaground........2006-01-20
Almost famous...an album the LL crew put together in 2001 is one of the best CD's of the underground rap scene. With funky beats and crazy emcees, this is a rap fans delight. These guys are the defintion of underground and they dont want to be in the limelight they just want to be heard in a legendary sort of way. Represent the Legends.
Top Trax:
#2 Night Prowler Feat. Slug, #8 What would I be, #11 War games, #12 Forces of Nature, and #16 Nothing Less Feat. Slug
Classic release.......2005-02-08
All of the tracks on this album are excellent. The first track is nice because the members spit their battle verses. My favorite tracks on this album are Night Prowler, Black Glass, Osaka Tales, Forces of Nature, and Nothing Less. Not that the other tracks arent good, I just feel that people will still be singing those particular songs for years and years and years and years from now. Easily a hiphop classic album.
LL!.......2004-10-29
I first heard this album when it came out back in '01 and it's still in rotation to this day. I love all the members of LL (especially Grouch, Murs, and Eligh) and their shows are awesome too.

Great Living Legends CD..........2006-01-20
The Living Legends crew came out poppin with this CD. Instead of the mainstreatm crap we hear everyday on the radio, the Living Legends tend to be comical and humerous and also have good beats to copmly with it. This Cd is a good pick up if you can find them in stores. At first if you dont like it, pop it in again and you'll hear why these guys are truly Legends.
Top Trax: #2 Fill my drink up, #3 Addicted, #5 Days go by,#11 Real Slow the fast way, #17 Aspirations
This CD Is Horrible.......2005-07-27
I like Living Legends but this album deserves to be thrown into the void, its annoying and boring. The production is lame and the lyrics just fell off on this one.
Eclectively Solid.......2005-02-15
Yes, the first time through this album left a bad taste in my mouth. This was the first and only Living Legends album that I've got from them or any of their individual members. The more I listened to "Creative Differences" though, the stars just kept shooting up on my rating scale. The great thing about this album is that there are many different styles to choose from that should appeal to fans of all different types of Rap.
Living Legends are underground, but they concoct many songs here I would not be mad at hearing in a club or at a party. Don't fret! They got some surefire underground/conscious Hiphop hits like "Days Go By," "Damn It Feels Good," "Hold Your Own," and "Aspirations," which are introspective and provoke thought. The last two are probably my favorites off the album. Each of the eight members get their own solo here, and I think the best ones out of these were The Grouch's "No Strings Attached" and Eligh's "Friends Are Calling." Odd that those two happen to be the only non-African-Americans out of the group. Sunspot (Jonz) cooks up a rock-solid party hit with "It Might Be You," which I listen to often and it has a cool beat.
"Creative Differences" starts out with the 6-minute title track which is the only song with all eight members involved. This one is loose, funky, and comical. Next is the lighthearted "Fill My Drink Up," which is not terrible, but it is forgettable. "Addicted" is actually very good. It uses A LOT of dark humor, and is memorable just because many artists are afraid to touch upon the topic(see for yourself). Scarub's "Time To Ride" is next and showcases his wacky wordplay, although it doesn't do him much justice. This one should grow on you though. Elsewhere, Bicasso controlls the solid "Get It In Your Soul," and Murs's solo is the underwhelming "Real Slow The Fast Way," which has some good moments, but a lame chorus and an eyesore of a third verse(I need not repeat it). The only song I'm not feeling at all was "How You Take It," mostly because 2/3 of it is in a different language by Arata, while Scarub raps(in English) for the rest of it. However, how many artists do you see out there including a track in a foreign language? At least it was different.
This album turned out to be good because it's like a grab bag for fans of all different tastes. I bought this album having known a little of Scarub, and while he holds it down, the member who caught my ear was Eligh. Eligh participated in three of the four strongest songs on this album, as well as dropping a memorable solo track. He displays a quick rhyming technique at times, and constantly has insightful and witty lyrics. Yes, some of the tracks may sound rather mainstream-ish, but I think they wore the hat well and weren't trying to sell out. They just want to rock the party as well as stimulate the minds, that's all. The beats were all done by a variety of the members, and they range from fresh to unnoticeable. If you see "Creative Differences" in the stores, it may very well be worth your money to see what's it's all about!
Give It A Chance...........2004-08-27
Most agree, this album WILL grow on you. I got this CD, listened to it for about 10 minutes, and didn't touch it for a week. It just has a different feel to it than past LL productions. You really need an open mind to appreciate this album. It wouldn't hurt to be an LL fan in the first place. After listening to it a couple times through, you'll discover some tracks that appeal to you that didn't catch your attention at first. Check it out.
legendary.......2004-06-10
Just as someone else mentioned in there review, I also didn't like this CD that much when I first got it, but after a couple of weeks worth of listening its definitley growing on me. There are a couple of joints on here I can't listen to all the way through, but for the most part this is a solid album. Best cuts are "Addicted", "No Strings", "Real Slow the Fast Way", and "Trust Me". Although this isn't a 5 star joint its still worth peepin out.

true living legends.......2004-07-08
I just copped this CD a couple of weeks back and it really got me on one. Real thuggish but pimped out most definitely. Takes me back to '95 when they first dropped Space Age Pimpin'. I knew from that point they would have much more to offer in the rap game in the years to come. And look at them now! Just hooked up with P. Diddy who now has the Bad Boy South division. Real sharp business move! Hopefully Puffy & Co. will develop more talent out of tha dirty dirty.
Now on to "Living Legends". The track "You Don't Want Drama" sets it all off. That's my lil cuzzo's favorite one. Simply stated "you don't want drama/you don't want none!" My other cuzzo and I constantly bang track 12 "Forever" which is very reminiscent of Bones Thugs N Harmony. My favorite one though is track 15 "Don't Make". Way too much slomp for your ride! They have other tracks on here I peeped with Ludacris, Twista and some others. Track 11 kicks real game about bitches and hoes nowadays and how they don't really need us. Now who told them that lie? Once you hear this you'll know these broads are just in denial of wanting tha real thang. Cop this one mane! 8Ball & MJG definitely keep it crunk in tha '04!
real legends.......2004-06-27
THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST CD'S THAT'S BEEN OUT ALL YEAR. I LOVE EVERY TRACK ON THE ALBUM. IT AMAZIES ME HOW THEY HAVE BEEN IN THE GAME FOR SO LONG AND STILL HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE GOOD MUSIC

Solid effort from living legends.......2006-10-26
Standout tracks:YOU DONT WANT DRAMA, STRAIGHT CADILLAC PIMPIN, WE DO IT, SHOT OFF(weird beat though), WHEN ITS ON, FOREVER, LOOK AT THE GRILLZ(T.I and Twista floored 8ball&MJG on this song. That cant be a good sign right?), DONT MAKE and GANGSTA . Filler: The streets feat Bun B is too bland to be enjoyed, Trying to get at you feat 112 is a Bad Boy'd up joint(meaning commercial like everything else on BadBoy) and Baby girl shouldve been 86'd right along with Trying to get at you. Bottom line: This album is not a bad release from Bad boy and im surprised that it isnt commercial to a fault like most of what comes out of Badboy including Puffy. Ball&G gave you a pretty dope effort even though them getting outrapped by T.I and Twista on Look at the grillz might cause some concern. It was a pretty good release from a record label that hasnt been the same since Biggie died.
its ok i guess.......2006-10-26
with puffy i dont think this album could have been
worse,i saw the "forever" video puffy trying to hide gangbanging!(idiot)but its my favorite song if you really
got a good cd system in your ride.."DAM! IT BUMPS DOWN THE BLOCK"
ALSO THAT TIMBERLAKE "MY LOVE" DAM IT BUMPS TOO but anyway its
a keeper, but the language is vulgar as hell though that's da dirty, dirty
for ya you got to expect that "its a diffrent way of life down there"
could have been better.......2006-03-24
ball and mjg are good lyricists lovede them since the first cd but what was they thinking by signing with puffy and bad boy this cd is good but without puff's involvement could have been better screw you puffy or whatever you go by now you just jocking the south cause they're hot right now.
(Living Legends) still breathing today. (2004).......2006-03-23
8 Ball & MJG still bumping against the grain with this Bad Boy South album, and these nigga's still pop off with "Living Legends
plus all they're albums have gone platinum and still the most known down south rappers in the game, also cop this album & "Almost Famous" (2001) in stores now.
This album is 4.5 & the artist are 4.8
Not their best but still a good album.......2005-09-01
Definitely on of the top 3 groups of the south and the 2 have been around for 13 years making records so the title fits. After being away for a while I expected better but still a decent album. Of the 6 group albums of there's I have, this is near the bottom, but they have plenty of good albums and plus this is on Bad Boy so it don't have the funk that Mo Suave Productions provided and it has a few radio friendly joints on it. Of the 14 songs on here, 5 are ok and 9 are good, no real great or bad song on here. Guests rap on 3 of the songs and do hooks on 5. Production is decent, Shondrae does 3 songs, Yogi & Vanex each do 2, and Nasheim Myrick, Wonda Twinz, Gorilla Tak, Lil Jon, Red Spyda, D-Dot, Cool & Dre all do 1 song. A good album for their fans but not their best.
