Great Band, Poor Recording.......2005-07-26

Sound levels are variable, the mix is nonexistent, and the album deserves a re-mastering. This recording does not transmit the energy and excitement of the Corries as well as some others do.

Impeccable talent and Wit.......2000-09-01

Scotlands native sons, the Corries pull out all the stops in this live collection. Songs such as "Lowlands Away" and "The Great Silkie" display not only the Corries brilliant interpretation of folk songs, but also manifest their multi-instrumental talents. With harmonicas, guitars, flutes and the incredibly unique Combolin, which produces both haunting and beautiful tones, the Corries use every instrument as an emotional and expressive vehicle . If you are interseted in finding out what the Corries are all about, this fine collection is failsafe way to introduce yourself to the beauty of Scottish folk music.

Good Celtic Ballads.......2000-08-05

This was my first introduction to the Corries some 15 years ago. Since then I have collected most of their albums. The Corries specialize in nationalistic, historic ballads, such as Bonnee Dundee, Liberty and others, but they also mix in mythical legends and humorous ballads. You must also watch out for their wee little songs that sneak in here and there. Through most of their tapes, they have a common good natured banter going on between them, however you realize that there is a visual piece missing from the performance. If your into Celtic ballads, 'Flower of Scotland' and 'Live at Royal Lyceum Theatre', both from the Corries, are must haves.

The Corries are charismatic, fun-loving, and extremely talented. They are much at ease on the stage and their music is beyond terrific. The Corries sing in traditional folk style, with a lot of flair and a wonderful sense of humor. They also bring about a sense of true history, honor, and loyalty with their music, inspiring in even the most jaded hearts a sense of comraderie and inspiration. I fell madly in love with them immediately, and ended up buying their entire collection...in Scotland! It was expensive, but well worth the buy. I would have paid twice as much---except here, you don't even have to pay the full price. Get it! No regrets!

Spear of Destiny at their absolute best,a great live album featuring all the best tracks from their first three lp's, In my opinion this is what made Spear of Destiy the best live band around at that time.

THE classic Punk Collection.......2005-08-23

When I first heard this album back in 77 as an impressionable 15 year old ABBA fan, I ripped up my clothes, tore down my glam posters and stuck a safety pin through my nose.

Johnny Moped featured on this outstanding album. Johnny Thunders of Heartbreakers did not make the cut!

One of the Best?? Hardly..........2005-06-09

This is indeed one of the WORST live Heartbreakers performances documented. This album is basically the full live soundtrack to the 1984 reunion concert movie, "Dead or Alive." While it sucks just as equally in the movie, at least you get a visual idea of a Heartbreakers show with the film (Not a good one, but an exciting "reunion" one nonetheless). If you want these songs, I would recommend the double disc "Street Trash," because at least with that, you get a disc of early Dolls demos to help cleanse the pallette.

Please don't see my criticism as too negative: As a Johnny Thunders/Dolls fan with over 40 solo Johnny bootlegs, I'm just trying to help save you some money. I have this only to fulfill my sick completist thing.

For your money, for quality live Heartbreakers, I suggest "Live at Max's '79" (the full band with Jerry Nolan does the last four or five tracks of the album, including my favorite version of "So Alone." As well, "DTK - Live at the Speakeasy" has some classic live JT and boys.

Also: Food for Thought: A lot of discs are packaged as the special Reunion shows and all that kind of garbage. The band was predominantly junkies, and had these "reunion" shows about as common as rent parties. Cool nonetheless, but don't be dooped. "Heartbreakers" live shows pretty much after 1984 need to be taken with a grain of salt.

With the vast number of Johnny Thunders post-mortem releases, it's hard to know which are any good. Having picked up my fair share of them already, I can honestly say that "Live At The Lyceum" is one of the best 'live' Heartbreakers albums on the market.

One thing that doesn't go wrong (but which could have) is the handling of Johnny's solo material, which sounds just as good as any of the studio releases. The recording mix sounds a bit unbalanced, but it's a lot cleaner than most, and the song selection is above par.

It might have been '84, but the album sounds as raunchy as it might have been back in '77. Although it takes a few numbers to get into their groove, the reunited band kicks it into high gear throughout the set and never looks back. Particularly the closer "So Alone" which includes a very weird recitation and blazing guitar solo by Johnny.

My CD cover art is a different photo than this one, but it's all about the music anyway. Definitely worth buying.
