About the Artist
Renowned naturalist and sound designer Dr. Bernie Krause has traveled the world capturing the soundscapes of exotic natural environments. Dr. Krause began his groundbreaking work in bioacoustics and environmental recording in the late 1960's, and much of his work has been accomplished with techniques and technologies that he personally developed. His "In A Wild Sanctuary" (1970) recording earned a place in history as being the first recording to use environmental sounds as both a central component of orchestration and as a statement about the environment.

Dr. Krause's diverse achievements include 10 recordings for The Nature Company that have enjoyed over $24 million in gross sales over a period of 6 years. Development of the audio technology innovation known as the Intelligent Show System (for public exhibitions and installations), and his Music and Word Series of spoken word documents that include "Ishi - The Last Yahi." Dr. Krause recently published the book "Wild Soundscapes" (2002) that includes a full-length CD featuring a sampling of natural sounds.

Product Description
For nearly three weeks, we recorded in infinitely small regions of Gray Ranch, a vast 500 square mile Nature Conservancy easement in the panhandle of New Mexico just north of the Mexican border. In this high Sonoran/Chihuauan desert habitat, we have finally discovered a quiet place - one uncluttered by the noises of aircraft, autos, and domestic animals. From the huge number of creatures whose voices we have captured on tape, I cannot possibly understand how anyone can think of deserts as being empty or boring. Dawn at Juniper Wells (Krause) features coyotes, a wealth of desert birds, including great horned owls blended with hot desert winds whispering through the dry grasses. Desert Serenade (Ruth Happel) begins at dawn as strong gusts of wind blow across open spaces accented by ravens, western meadowlarks, and mockingbirds. As evening descends, choruses of toads, frogs, and crickets call from a nearby oasis.

DESERT SOLITUDES. Many think of the desert as a wasteland. Hardly. These two biophonies, Dawn at Juniper Wells and Desert Serenade, were recorded one spring in the Sonoran/Chihuauan desert in the panhandle of New Mexico - oneof the truly quiet places in the lower 48 United States. It's a placewhere living creatures call for attention from virtually every unique feature of the landscape where they've thrived for millennia in harmony with their surroundings. The coyotes are particularly haunting in the opening cut.

5 out of 5 stars Best CD for massage therapist I have found!.......2007-01-21

I love this CD because it is beautiful and has a great rhythm to it for massage. I have at least 12 cd to choose from when I do massage and this is the one I always seem to end up picking. A lot of my customers ask what the name of the cd is that is playing because they like it so much.

5 out of 5 stars OWL, BOB WHITE, NIGHT BIRD DELIGHT.......2002-07-29

The CD is about 26 minutes in length but it does, get the sound of an owl, a Bob White, a coyote, other night birds and insects. The sounds of the owl and Bob White are very clear and these are the ones I was interested in hearing. The volumn is a little soft, but there are no problems with that. It starts with insects, birds, a coyote but the coyote vanishes quickly. The sounds of the night birds are clear and enjoyable a great after work relaxing CD. It has not been "enhanced" with music and is a natural delight.

5 out of 5 stars Desert Solitudes Sounds Great!.......1999-10-23

This CD sounds excellent, my brother owns it, but he sleeps in the room next to me and he plays it at night and I find it to be very relaxing. I've heard other nature tapes and some of them play classical music over the actual nature sounds, which I hate, but this CD wasn't like that. I particularly like track 2 because it has the sounds of birds chirping and it is wonderful listening to the birds sing at night when you've been through a rough day. For a nature CD, this one is at the top of my list.
