Songspell", Anna Schaad's second album featuring original instrumental music described as "Celtic-Blues Fusion", builds upon her first musical release. With her electric viola, Wicked Grace, acoustic and electric fiddles, bodhran, David MacVittie's bouzouki, electric and acoustic guitars, slide guitar, flutes and harmonica, "Songspell" lays out a series of spirited tunes which keep listeners tapping their toes….often dancing the jig.
Combining Scottish, Celtic, African and American Blues and Bluegrass influences is the driving force behind "Songspell". Schaad opens the album with the title track she composed to showcase the talents of world champion Scottish snare drummer, J. Reid Maxwell. Piping compositions penned and performed by Adam Quinn are also featured on this vibrant album. Adam's original works were featured at the SFU Pipe Band's critically acclaimed concert at Carnegie Hall in 2000. The album features other talented musicians including African percussionist, Dido Morris, who has recorded with the likes of Dr. John, Bruce Cockburn and others. "Songspell" captures the beauty and mystique of Anna's magical musical talents.
