a great successor to black halo.......2007-07-31

The Black Halo is consistently one of my favorite albums. I was expecting to be let down by their next work. It's a bit different than their last album, but after several spins it has grown on me. I'll leave it to more capable reviewers to detail and contrast the albums. If you liked The Black Halo, then pick this up.

Kamelot has created their own Metal Genre!.......2007-07-27

Ghost Opera takes the band another step forward and now it seems with massive touring and videos that set a new standard the band is finally getting the recognition they so long have deserved. The new album experiments with several new ideas but somehow they never lose or abandoned their sound. The band has really created their own Genre since they sound like noone else!!

I have been a fan of Kamelot for five years now and this is far from thier best work. Don't get me wrong, the cd does grow on you the more you listen just like most of thier work. If you want to hear this band at the top of thier game i would suggest the forth legacy or karma.

Songs seem very repetitive. Also, has some rip-off "Phantom" music to create the ghostly effect. Khan needs to stop with the attempt at soft singing. His vibrato kills all of the ballad style singing and his voice sounds way over trained. I am all about great vocals and this album does a poor job of showcasing them. Khan can sing better than this. Lose the heavy vibrato. I am a Kamelot fan but the album left me wanting more. Maybe next time guys.

Well worth the money!!! Bogus DVD or not!.......2007-07-23

I REALLY like this album and am glad to see that Kamelot is continuing to evolve and mature. So many bands of this genre begin to get stagnant and eventually stale after every album begins to sound the same.

But I'm kind of conflicted as well due to one simple fact. I can think of many, many cases where a certain album by a band is a better album overall than it's predecessor, but that predecessor just happens to have that one single song that is better than anything on the newer release. Of course this is all personal opinion but two genre examples that quickly come to mind are Ozzy and Maiden.

I feel that Diary of a Madman is better overall than Blizzard of Oz though nothing on Diary quite equals the one-two punch of "Revelation (Mother Earth)" and "Steal Away the Night". And while I think Piece of Mind is superior to Number of the Beast overall, it doesn't have anything that tops the magnificent "Hallowed Be Thy name".

Ghost Opera is like this; while I think it's (slightly) better overall, I haven't heard anything that tops Black Halo's "March of Mephisto". But, reading the reviews, I see that many fans like Halo better overall anyway.

In any case, I really like "Rule the World", "Love you to Death", "Up Thru the Ashes", "Edenecho" and the bonus track "The Pendulous Fall". And, if the band continues to evolve in this way...I can't wait for the next one!! But I have to say the "bonus" DVD wasn't worth it, only 2 videos and one was a making of..., but, then again I haven't seen one yet that didn't come with the DVD so I wonder how much cheaper it would have been?

Now if they'd just come to Atlanta (or anywhere closer than a 10 hr drive) so I can go see them!!!! Because, judging by the "One Cold Winter's Night" DVD and what I'm hearing on Ghost Opera..... I'd sure like to!!!

Dark, somber, and thematically unified as no previous album by the Police, Ghost in the Machine deals almost exclusively with the negative effects of modern political and technological culture. The only departure from this focus is "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," a perfect pop song and radio hit. Elsewhere, the album treats such issues as the hope underlying resistance to oppression, the dismissal of most of the nonindustrialized world, the daily bombardment of words and images that overload the senses, and the frequent recourse to violence for personal or political expression. The songs are presented in what are, for the Police, unusually dense, layered arrangements. Andy Summers's guitar lines are even more ethereal than usual, with Sting's bass parts bobbing in a mix seasoned with keyboards and sax and propelled by Stewart Copeland's unmistakable, idiosyncratic drumming. GHOST IN THE MACHINE is a great CD by the Police, and also their most politically- and socially-conscious release ever. Songs such as "Spirits In The Material World", "Invisible Sun", and "One World (Not Three)" call for people to try to work together and resolve things peacefully, rather than fighting each other, while "Too Much Information is an attack on the corporate world. "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", on the other hand, is a love song as only Sting can write one. Sting's opposition to Indonesia's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

Truly indescribable...but I'll try anyway..........2007-07-21

There is a certain mood felt when listening to the album/CD "Ghost In The Machine" that was not felt concerning previous Police releases. It is from the early '80s containing hit songs,such as the happy and up tempo smash "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", and other album tracks that will for certain bring back special memories for most people who were Police fans during that period. But either way, fans old and new alike will enjoy listening to this Album/CD. The album is pretty much flawless from start to finish beginning with what turned out to become three big hits: "Spirits In The Material World","Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", and "Invisible Sun". But even though the hits are found at the beginning,there is still a coherant feel to the entire album from beginning to end. This might be in part attributed to the fact that there was a special kind of chemistry this time around between the band members as evidenced by their collective kenetic flow in performances and creativity during these recording sessions. Andy Summers ,for instance, comes through with much energy and enthusiasm during his composition Omega Man. But in addition to this song, he also was proving to add much to the atmosphere of the over all recording sessions with his guitar playing and effects. Working now with a new producer(Hugh Padgham)the band must have also picked the right place (Montserrat in the West Indies) to write and record much of this album. So with those factors helping the Police to become refreshed and revitalized as a band, many of the bands' compositions were probably influenced (or at least enhanced) by the local Caribbean musical environment as well as by the breathtaking scenery. Along with this new found focus and clarity there were psychological,philosophical,political,sociological and even mystical, quasi-religious subjects that were thoroughly expored, examined, and expressed. This was done through the use of lyrics and symbolism (contributed mostly by their top-notch bassist: Sting). So, included on "Ghost in the Machine" are kinds of subjects that were never covered by the Police on previous albums (at least not to this degree anyway). This would prove to add depth and dimension to the songs as well as to the over all feel of the album. However,some things stayed the same... Copeland (as in previous Police releases) continued his innovative,busy,expert,precision drumming which was clearly present thoughout these sessions.Only this time there were lots more power drumming moments as well and an energy and pace never heard before from Copeland during Police recording sessions. I think I first noticed the power drumming beginning with "Invisible Sun" and continuing on in others such as "Demolition Man","Too much Information" and "One World" (all three of which contained both precision and power drumming techniques performed by Stuart Copeland). The album would later end appropriately with a composition by Copeland entitled "Darkness". This song also was just one more example of how all three were collaborating and meshing perfectly as a unit. What I should point out also is that the 3 songs included at the end of "Ghost In The Machine" were each written by a different band member but all shared a dark mystique and all contained philosophical lyrics that had something either metaphysical,existential or quasi-religious about them. It seemed like the album went through different stages but was leading up to this finale. The first hint of this was "Invisible Sun". Most of the other songs during the first 3 quarters of the album were happy and upbeat sounding. There were also saxophones used for the first time on this Police album that at times sounded like sirens in a frantic,hectic urban setting. The messege was clear in the title and lyrics included in the song "Re-humanize Yourself". The song "Hungry For You" contained saxophones,guitars,and drums along with some French lyrics penned and sung by Sting gaving it a certain up-tempo Savoir Faire. But in addition to a French influence there is also Reggae flavored music found in the song "One World". I seem to remember Ziggy Marley himself saw fit to do a cover of that song. There were lots of up-tempo moments and cheerful sounding music during the first 3 quarters of the album (as mentioned before) but the profoundly serious lyrics and effects here and there gave a bit of a clue about the impending darkness contained in the last quarter. But even dark songs can be aesthetically pleasing and wonderfully crafted (as was proven by the Police with the release this album). So with all of that said, I believe that "Ghost in the Machine" is a one of a kind, groundbreaking release by the Police which contains some of their best moments in recorded history. It turned out to be one of my most valued CDs in my collection. So, I am highly recommending this album/CD. and it is my hope that every fan of the Police that is reading this who does not own "Ghost in The Machine" will have it someday (since a greatest hits collection just doesn't do this band enough justice).

The Police On Fire!.......2007-07-17

What can I say about this album that hasn't been said already. The Police are such a tight band and boy can they write songs! Listen to this album and I do mean listen to it. Listen to the lyrics and listen to the music. It's an awesome album that everyone should listen to even if you were not a huge Police fan.

This One, Not So Much..........2007-06-29

If you want to discover The Police, do yourself a favor and check out their first two releases, Outlandos d'Amour (released November of 1978, highlights include Roxanne, Masoko Tanga) and Regatta De Blanc (which translates to "White Reggae" released October, 1979, highlights include Message In a Bottle, Walking On the Moon, Bed's Too Big Without You). These releases have the vital energy and punk-reggae-power-trio sound that really got them noticed. I also recommend 1980's Zenyetta Mondatta. The first release in the States that got a lot of airplay on the radio, Zenyetta Mondatta managed to be commercial success while carrying forward that great sound. Hits include De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da, Don't Stand So Close To Me, Canary In a Coalmine. I purchased Ghost in The Machine when released and that was the end for me. With this release their sound began the downward spiral, losing the energy and fun of their initial releases. Outlandos d'Amour [Digipak] Regatta De Blanc

The infectious twang and pop hooks of Wilco's former efforts may be fading fast, but A Ghost Is Born is still a rewarding effort that demands repeated listening. The group's fifth album extends upon the experimentalism of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot with angular, blues-soaked guitar riffs ("At Least That's What You Said," "Hell Is Chrome"), a handful of sparse, yet catchy tunes (smack dab in the middle of the disc) that will surely keep college radio stations smiling, and a lengthy track that descends into mere static ("Less Than You Think"). Frontman Jeff Tweedy's songwriting continues to evolve: "Hummingbird" is a dreamy Randy Newman-styled love song; "The Late Greats" is a sly ode to the world of pop tacked onto the end of the album (as if using such a fun song on this understated disc was an afterthought). Meanwhile, producer extraordinaire Jim O'Rourke manages to make the most complicated arrangements here sound minimalist and laid-back. All told, it's another great addition to the Wilco canon. --Jason Verlinde

Want to understand this album? Listen to the words to Hell is Chrome. Reviewers complaining about droning white noise, words that don't make sense, "incompetently played" guitar solos ---- It's all spelled out for you in Hell is Chrome. If you don't understand it then you need to choose something easier to listen to. Something that makes sense immediately. Something that doesn't challenge you. Something that doesn't make you wonder. Something that doesn't make you think. Please enjoy your own chrome plated hell.

This album is a masterpiece. It's simple, beautiful, thoughtful, and thought-provoking. Yes, even Less Than You Think - all 15 minutes of it. Maybe if you actually _listen_ to the intro of that song, you can at least try to understand why there are 12 minutes of noise. There isn't a single piece on this album that isn't exactly the way it's supposed to be.

Yeah, just as pretty much everyone else has said, this one is a creeper. It took me awhile to really get into their groove on this record. The goods are there, I guess it depends on how you listen to it. What really made me go back a give this record another try was hearing their live album. Theologians, Company in my Back and Hand Shake drugs are really great songs.

stop the noise!!.......2007-04-05

I love this CD but the 'noise' at the end of some of the songs really takes so much away from the overall groove. I've recommended and have played a few of the tracks for friends and always mention--'the end of this track is a disaster and will grate on your nerves!' When I play the CD I always skip -to-the-next song when the distorted mess comes up. So much potential in the CD itself. Hopefully WILCO will become enlightened and lose the nails on chalkboard endings.

Kind of hard to warm up to..........2007-02-27

I am not what you would call a die hard Wilco fan. I do like their music though. While I have only had "a ghost is born" for a few days, I must agree with the reviewers that feel let-down the by the noise-making on this CD. Noise-making has its place, but usually (here included) it just doesn't bring me pleasure. Instead, it requires patience to listen until the end of a few of the tracks.

A previous review makes the analogy between this CD and the art of Andy Warhol. But I think that Tweedy works to create great meaning and emotion, while Warhol strove to vacate art of those attributes while meditating on fame. A better comparison would be bad Abstract Expressionism from the 50's, the kind of visual noise that must have seemed smart at the time, but also kind that no one wants to view any more.

Not to over emphasize the "noise" thing. It only happens on some of the songs, and several of the songs on the CD are pretty good. However, it just feels like Tweedy is putting some distance between himself and his earlier work, and his fans. So, like "Kid A" (love Radiohead, still can't stand Kid A) it could constitute a reaction, a break from the past. I just don't want to pay to hear a reaction.

The Grammy awards given to this CD should have be a yellow flag. Grammy winning CD's are rarely the best an artist has to offer. Often, Grammys are a belated nod to talent or driven by sales. However, I will keep listening - the CD is subtle and perhaps I just need time to appreciate it.

One of my favorite albums ever.......2007-02-13

Yep, that's right. Been a fan for a while, but this was the album in my opinion that launched them into the stratosphere of pop rock creative mastery. I'm only writing this review for all the naysayers. Yes this album doesn't have all the catchy hooks of his older albums, or the straight ahead rock twang feel, but guess what? Jeff Tweedy has evolved as a songwriter and musician and if you don't evolve too you'll keep listening to AM and think that's his peak. Sorry, but no way. I will add that it does take time to appreciate the subtle mastery of this album --- after casually listening to it for several months, I "discovered" it on a road trip through the Oregon desert. The scope and texture of this album is unlike any other I've heard, absolutely beautiful, rich, deep, poetic, melodic, creative, original, moving.... "Muzzle of Bees" and "Theologians" particularly. I guess it's personal, but I think that's their intent.

Great Anime Music.......2007-07-16

I was more impressed with this CD than I thought I would be. Its a very good soundtrack that follows GITS: SAC's first season very well. Yoko Kanno did an excellent job arranging the music on this CD. Some of it is great to get your blood pumping. Some of my favorite songs on the CD include cameo's by Origa.

I like the album starting from Inner Universe..........2007-01-07

I bought this album for track 11 "Inner Universe"
(which is the track from the opening sequence of the tv show),
and I would buy the album for this one track alone.

As for the rest of the album, I really wanted to like it but
the only songs I found that were good enough to stand on their own
are track 11 "Inner Universe" and track 18 "Rise [TV Size]".

If you want some albums where you can listen to the
entire album (without editing out more than half the album)
I would recommend "Cowboy Bebop" and "Cowboy Bebop: Blue";
they are both much better than this album.

Hmmm..........2007-01-06

Well, the second half of this CD is great. From "Inner Universe" on. Maybe it's not quite half. "Beauty is Within Us" is a particularly moving track. Especially when you listen closely or read the lyrics.

Amazing!.......2007-05-21

I don't drive anywhere without this album in my car. Yoko Kanno has taken her place at the top of my list of favorite composers. Her versatility blows me away. This soundtrack contains a great mixture of music types that stands well on its own besides working so well into the fabric of Ghost in the Shell: SAC. I have to say that the show just wouldn't be as good without her contributions.

Another soundtrack by yoko kanno and beautiful doesn't do it justice. I have several favorites from the score but to really know how amazing and joyous it is, it should be heard. I don't think words can describe it.

I Need Stand Alone Complex OST 3.......2006-11-12

Okay, I thought the first OST was amazing so I assumed OST 2 would let me down. Boy was I wrong! Not only do you get full versions of Rise and Get 9, but you are also gifted with two tracks sung by Ilaria Graziano (I Can't Be Cool and I Do).

But let me back up a bit. I knew I would love this OST more than the first one when I slipped it into the CD player in my car and Cyberbird almost ruptured my eardrums. Unbeknownst to me, the volume was up too high and I didn't turn it down until a cop looked at me funny. I think he liked what he heard but was afraid to admit it.

There are seventeen tracks. Each one is different. From techno to electronica to jazz to pop to funk to a lovely ballad titled I Do. There's a little bit of everything, which is just the way I like my music. If you own Vol. 1 you should add this one to your collection.

È assolutamente incredibile come l'autore di questa colonna sonora sia riuscito a dare vita a generi così diversi l'uno dall'altro, in grado di emettere, ad ogni brano, sensazioni forti e ogni volta nuove. Molto interessante, come per il primo CD, che si sia fatto uso di non solo inglese, ma anche altre lingue, ognuna in grado di dare un timbro del tutto particolare ad ogni pezzo. Degno di nota e del tutto inaspettato il risultato ottenuto con la miscela di italiano ed inglese di "I can't be cool".
Un solo giudizio: da comprare subito, sia per gli amanti delle colonne sonore che non.

Rarely in the darkwave genre do I find anybody that I consider to be interresting, however this time around, I'm satisfied. Collide is a collition of trip hop and goth that sounds like a terrible idea, but actually works out quite well. Collide will trip you out big time!

OKAY BUT NOT STELLAR.......2007-05-18

I like songs 1, 2, 7 and the band's dance remake of White Rabbit. kaRin's voice is hauntingly similar to Kate Bush; although real heavy on the Vo-Coder. Some of the songs, instead of being entrancing tend to drone on and none of the tracks pop out as a really strong single. However, I am not sorry I bought the cd and would recommend it to others because it's easy on the ears (very melodic).

Music for the Witching Hour.......2007-04-13

This album is so darkly ethereal and richly textured that I yearn for the poet's ability to paint a vivid word picture of its seductive sound. Sadly, I am not the world reknown poet any review of this album demands, but simply your average music lover, and after musing over it so long my brain cramps, the best I can come up with is something like. "Hey, what do you get when you cross a goth chick with a computer geek?" So you will just have to use your imagination.

Imagine the perfect song for a lovesick vampire. Imagine what moonlight peeking through gathering stormclouds sounds like. Imagine a Hammer horror movie with a Moby soundtrack. Imagine the distant music that haunts the dreams of some half-mad hero from an H.P. Lovecraft story. Imagine the perfect CD for your date with that fair-skinned lovely with the black lipstick and fingernail polish.
Imagine closing your eyes and feeling the sound sweep over you, setting you hair on end and your soul on fire.

Then stop imagining it and order this CD. Wait for a dark and stormy night and slip it in. Set your imagination free on midnite wings...

Chasing the Ghost : one of Collide's best!.......2007-04-13

I highly recommend this Cd to anyone who loves to be swept away in imagination. I find all of Collide's music highly moving and inspiring, and Chasing the Ghost is one that truly grabs you and carries you away. I can't say enough about this cd really.. but it's definitely one of my all-time favorite cds. Dark and alluring.... perfection!

Mesmerizingly Hard!!.......2007-04-12

This album is definitely a haunting series of songs!! The bands ability to add that certain haunting nature to Karin's voice is, in my experience, rare!! Defintely a must have for your hard core gothic/industrial/electronica collection!!!

Below Average Beethoven Performances.......2007-03-10

It is unfortunate that they chose Solti's direction for the symphonic pieces in this soundtrack as he is simply one of the worst conductors for Beethoven. His direction is so slow one would think he is leading a funeral procession instead of music inspired by the French Revolution.

Of all old school directors such as Karajan, Toscanini, etc., Solti's performances are simply morbidly slow to the point of killing the grieving attendants with boredom. The cacophony of the oversized orchestra doesn't help either. Solti's interpretations are even too slow for a requiem. You think a regular interpretation of the 7th's second movement is slow? Wait 'til you hear this one; you're going to need a massage you'll be so stiff. The 9th symphony march is supposed to be a brisk revolutionary march calling the citizens to arms and to join the militia marching through a town. With Solti you imagine only a funeral procession coming through the town. In the Fifth the whole orchestra is almost struggling to slow down to match the strings. Karajan's interpretations are not particularly fast either but at least he breathes some life into them and the orchestra. I personally like Toscanini in terms of the old 20th century symphonic conductors and Gardiner's traditional interpretations that are at least at a correct speed and give the listener the impression they are marching off as part of a revolutionary batallion to bring liberty to the oppressed instead of being rolled to the morgue. Beethoven was a revolutionary anti-monarchist and strongly supported the idea of political change. Although Periah is a great pianist for Beethoven's concertos, there are simply better performances by him that fortunately aren't conducted by Solti such as on Sony with Bernard Haitink and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The same goes for the performances with Axe and Yo-Yo Ma. Gidon Kramer's performance for the Violin Concerto in D is also mediocre at best: there are better violinists out there than Kremer for Beethoven.

This is just not the best CD to get quality performances of Beethoven's works. Overall, Solti's interpretations are simply too sluggish and indecipherable to represent the ideals of Beethoven's music. Solti would definitely be my last choice for anything. You won't lose anything by not buying this soundtrack that's for sure: Solti's interpretations are so slow they will simply fossilize you.

Immortal beloved film.......2007-02-06

having watched a recording of Immortal beloved for a number of years the tape was past its best. now that i have the chance of ordering on line i did , and a good move it was. It was nice to see the film and things so clear, i had not see before, the writing on the love letter at the begining and tears that was shed. Iam very pleased with the dvd.

Living Perfection.......2007-01-14

This is one of the most perfect CDs I own, it's one I come back to time and time again. The recording quality is excellent - even on the cassette, which I've finally replaced after 12 years - but even better, the musical interpretation is splendid. Anyone who thinks that classical music is no longer relevant in our culture needs to buy this CD.

A wonderful tribute to the artist.......2005-05-25

This CD is perfect in my opinion. The recording is perfect, the pitch is perfect, the tempo is perfect, and the track selections are perfect. I think the album samples Beethoven's most remarkable pieces of work from his early years to his death. I have heard many recordings of the Ninth symphony that was just executed poorly; which is a shame because it is such a powerful piece. However, this album does it superbly. Sir Georg Solti and Murray Perahia did an amazing job with this album.

The album just flows really well from one piece to the next evoking a vast array of emotions along the way. Beethoven is timeless and forever will be. There is no comparison even to this day. This a wonderful tribute to the artist.

Very emotional and moving!!.......2005-05-23

I am a big fan of classical music. Beethoven, in my opinion, was one of the best composers, Mozart 1st, Beethoven 2nd, etc. This album is very moving and filled with emotion. I am currently listening to Adagio Cantabile-from Piano Sonata No. 8-from the film album. This piece is so moving and emotional. Another piece was Moonlight Sonata which I especially liked. Beethoven loads this piece with love and emotion for his one true love. In my opinion, Beethoven was the best at writing emotional and moving music. Whenever I listen to his music, I am immersed in a world of emotion and feeling. His music is truly beautiful. Back to the album, Sir Georg Solti really captured Beethoven's genius and devotion to his music in this album. This album really accents the film. You cannot have one, you must have both the film and the soundtrack. This is a must have for classical music/Beethoven fanatics and people who want to get a great summary of Beethoven's genius. BUY THIS!!!!

This five-track EP is clearly not intended to expand on Get Behind Me Satan, the Stripes' ambitious, ethos-stretching studio album that preceded it by a few months. Instead, the studio cover version and four recent live cuts culled together here seem equal parts roots-retrenchment and chronicle of Jack and Meg White's recent gig grooves. The title studio track (a cover of a standout from Canadian identical twin punk-pop duo Tegan and Sara's '04 "So Jealous" album) has been a fan favorite in recent Stripes set lists, and here Jack White invests it with a familiar, chunky-chorded foundation and equally solid vocal hooks, setting them off with evocative, just-this-side-of-Mars guitar breaks that pay tribute to Brit invasion heroes the Yardbirds. Hailing from June '05 Brazilian shows, the spare, stop/start "Screwdriver" finds Jack warbling in early Robert Plant mode, while his haunting acoustic take of White Blood Cells' "Same Boy I've Always Known" epitomizes much of the Stripes' stripped-down, back-to-the-future appeal. L.A. radio versions of Satan's gently infectious "As Ugly As I Seem" and the distortion-drenched "The Denial Twist" are forceful reminders that the Stripes' artistic bent may be minimalist, but its musical ambitions are anything but. --Jerry McCulley

Not bad, but inessential........2007-03-12

If you're new to the White Stripes, don't get this album. Get one of the five LP's, which are all incredible. This is more for people who are already fans of the band. I actually don't care a whole great deal for the cover of Tegan & Sara's hit "Walking with a Ghost," but it's alright. Actually, I liked the live tracks more. Even so, while they are all amazing Stripes songs, it is more like something intended for fans than anything else. I don't really think they're newer releases will be a template from this.

On the other hand, a new album, "Icky Thump" is coming out in awhile. We'll see how that one turns out.

Great Holdover.......2006-03-20

The title track is great and the live cuts are classic White Stripes. Its a great buy to hold over until the next album comes out. See also "Under the Blackpool Lights" DVD.

Walking with the ghost.......2006-03-06

Unsurprisingly, a new White Stripes album is going to overshadow a small live/cover EP like "Walking With A Ghost + 4 Live Tracks." But this little collection is worth checking out anyway,

It opens with a cover of indiepop sisters Tegan & Sara's "Walking With A Ghost," now White-Striped. This version is much hard-rockier and more angular, with jabs of rough guitar and wails from Jack White. Where Tegan and Sara sounded mildly perturbed by their "walking with a ghost," Jack sounds on the edge of breaking down completely. Steady there.

And, this having "+ 4 Live Tracks," we're then treated to some fairly good, low-key renditions of White Stripes tunes: a mellow version of "The Same Boy You've Always Known," where you can hear cheers and handclaps from the audience, the mournful "As Ugly As I Seem."

After the sorrowful pair of songs, we finally get some rockin'. Jack and Meg smash through the tune of "The Denial Twist," with snarly singing and lots of rough drums'n'bass. And after a hearty round of applause from the audience, they launch into the roaring bass of "Screwdriver."

Wedged in the midle of the last song is "Passive Manipulation," a solo where Meg sings, "Women, listen to your mothers/don't succumb to the wishes of your brothers..." Then Jack lets rip for one grand finale, a blast of raw vocals and equally raw instrumentation.

Well, the White Stripes know how to make their odds and ends worth the money -- smashing together a quirky cover with their live performance. While the cover is good -- not as enticing as the original, admittedly -- the live performance is what really rocks.

At first, things don't seem to be too energetic. Jack sounds very depressed, and only acoustic guitar and a few drums break through. But after a couple of very low-key songs, Meg and Jack start giving it their all. The result is absolutely electric -- kinetic music, ripping singing, and to judge from the applause, the audience loved it.

There's a muddy edge to the music, like many live performances, and it's a credit that their musical skills that the White Stripes can make this EP a good addition to any fan's collection. And yes, the cover is nice too.

great stuff, especially for collectors.......2006-02-23

The live stuff on here is great, I can never hear enough versions of "Screwdriver".

The title track, a cover of a Tegan & Sara song, is great too. It actually served as a springboard for me to check out the original band, of whom I am now a big fan.

The cover song was not what I expected, but then I had never heard the other version until recently. I like the Stripes version better. It's enjoyable.

Enraptured and inspired recordings!.......2006-09-08

This set of Beethoven' s piano trios has overly been one of the most famed in the late sixties. The inspired and magnificent musical chemistry among these three soloists was of first-rate class. On one hand you should be aware the fabulous rapport between Mrs. Dupre and his husband Mr. Barenboim in the set of cello sonatas; on the other hand Pinchas Zukerman and Barenboim recorded too some Beethoven 's violin sonatas; so it's not easy to understand the positive vibes.

It should be underlined we are talking interpretative freshness, and that youthful breadth among this ensemble that hardly, adding all his ages, would be under the 100 years. If you are seeking for definitive versions, go for the set of Kempff, Szerying and Fournier, but this is a very wise option.

A Treasure!!!.......2006-05-03

It would take a long, long time to write all that could be written about this historic CD. Here, you have three of the best musicians ever in their respective fields playing some of Beethoven's very best music. I now have a large classical music collection. This CD is one of the gemstones of my collection. I love it. Reference grade.

Ghost Riders Song.......2007-07-23

If you're looking for the song "Ghost Riders In The Sky" used at the end of the movie it's not by Bon Jovi on their Lost Highway CD and I don't think its Spiderbait either because I can't find any proof of it. I did some research and the closest I could find was a track by The Outlaws on their album The Outlaws: Best Of The Outlaws. I really don't understand why they didn't include the song on the official soundtrack, how stupid are they?

The score is excellent, if fact, it's very original and interesting to listen to.... but I didn't get all the music that was in the movie. The "Ghost Riders in the Sky" track isn't there. As they say in Germany... "I bought a cat in a sack". Should have inspected the product before buying the CD.
Marketing people need to learn that they will actually make more money if they actually give what they label says. As a result of the intentional misleading, people are going to become suspicious and will be forced to look at every track before buying a CD. If a specific track isn't there, they won't buy it. If "Ghost Riders in the Sky" had been there, they would have sold more of this album.... because I'm sure people are becoming "leary".

The movie was great....but those anybody know, the song that is played when they go the the ghost riders house the first time. He turns on the lights.. and his firned it telling him how he needs to get a lock for the door... and that song in the back round?..........when he just want to relax ?
