Product Description
Chicago performance group MASS Ensemble has released their third CD, Acoustics & Light. The entire CD was recorded at Mies van der Rohe's monumental Crown Hall during the Ensemble's month-long residency at the Illinois Institute of Technology in May of 2001. The recordings feature the Crown Instrument which was created and designed by Ensemble member Bill Close. The Crown Instrument employs 24,000 linear feet of brass wire which connects to mullions throughout the building and runs through a complex bridge system. This installation transformed the famous space into a giant sculptural string instrument. The Crown Instrument employs the same long stringed technology that has become the Ensemble's signature.
Acoustics & Light is an enhanced CD that features 8 original tracks plus the Ensemble's version of Purcell's Dido's Lament and Tchaikovsky's Arabian Dance. The CD-Rom element consists of images and video from the Ensemble's Crown Hall performances and other large-scale installations. Video footage highlights the Crown Instrument and Drum Dancing.
