5 out of 5 stars the most relaxing classical music in the university.......2007-05-12

All my favorites. I can start the CD player, which is wired to speakers in every room of my house, and just let it play, along with "The Most Relaxing Classical Music in the World" and "The Most Relaxing Classical Guitar in the World." I enjoy an awareness of familiar and beautiful strains of my favorites all day long and never get tired of it.

My brother visited me recently and noticed it right away. That will be another order for this fabulour music.

5 out of 5 stars Relaxing Classical Music.......2007-01-08

I was not really a classical music fan but I am now. I purchased this cd for my 14 year old grand-daughter, not knowing we would both enjoy the music so much. She has always enjoyed classical music along with all of the other teen music, rap, rock, country, etc.
Also, it really helped being able to listen to parts of the music before purchasing.

2 out of 5 stars Stress-freedom.......2006-03-14

Perfect music to end the work day. After listening to this I can face the evening. If the morning is hard, a little at lunch time gets me through the afternoon.

5 out of 5 stars Greatly enjoy!.......2006-02-23

I first developed a taste for this music a number of years ago when my daughter started playing in the orchestra. The reason I made this purchase however, was because I have a great deal of difficulty with anxiety and I was looking for ways to find help. I love these CDs. It helps so much to sit and close my eyes and enjoy the music. The CDs are full of beautiful music.

BT's This Binary Universe is really a follow-up to his 2004 soundtrack to Monster, a brilliant work of cinematic moods and ambient Americana. It was unjustly ignored by both the Oscars and the Grammys, where it should have at least been nominated for Best Surround Sound Recording. None of that has stopped Brian Transeau from going further down this path of expansive ambient electronica that takes him out of the techno-pop and trance direction he had been pursuing. This Binary Universe taps into BT's classical side, with expansive arrangements and intricate, albeit minimalist, thematic development. From the opening of "All That Makes Us Human Continues," BT reveals himself as a master of Eno-esque melancholy, as simple melodies evolve through an electro-orchestral instrumental palette. Lounge jazz with solos in the key of abstract, plaintive arpeggiated guitars, electro marches, minimalist hymns, and pastoral dreamscapes drive an album that seeks out joy and redemption, but not without traveling through the dark. The last track, "Good Morning Kaia," is a paean to his newborn daughter, and the most purely anthemic track on the disc.

I suspect the real raison d'être of This Binary Universe is the accompanying 5:1 surround DVD. BT creates an immersive space that's less sonic pinball and more audio sculpture, often revealing different aspects of his music than in the stereo mix. Each song on the DVD has a unique video that includes antique robots, surreal landscape drawings, live action fantasies, and abstract designs. It's the best way to experience this music, but whether you watch the DVD or tune into the stereo CD, This Binary Universe may be the first ambient symphony of the 21st century. --John Diliberto

4 out of 5 stars Yea, the best of the best.......2007-06-30

Have you ever bought a drink thinking you are getting something else. Say you buy a 'tea' but when you taste it, tastes like 'coke'. Oh, you bought the tea flavored coke. This is how I experienced BT's Binary Universe. I was expecting that in your face, break-beat, trance, old-school BT but this CD is definitely more ambient or house. With that being said, it is really a truly amazing CD. You won't get it the first time you listen to it, but if you listen to the CD over and over again it starts to sync-in. Some of the music is stuff you haven't heard before. Maybe in 10 years, musicians, producers will catch-up.

Really enjoyed track 4 through 6. Even though those are only 3 songs, they are long and change to different styles in the middle. 6 is freaking awesome.

I wanted to give it 5 stars, but because I was expecting something else, I knocked off a star. Good job though.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant, just brilliant.......2007-06-07

Men have been knighted for less.

If you like electronica in any way...strike that. If you think sound is kinda groovy, check this out. There will be something here for you.

4 out of 5 stars Very good change for Mr. Transeau.......2007-06-01

This really is impressive music. Brian Transeau has always been at the front of the line for technological wizardry, but a lot of his tracks have lacked the kind of songwriting prowess that is sorely needed when writing anything electronic. His score to the movie "Stealth" was lackluster at best...

On a side note, the reviewer who falsely credited BT with the score to the Matrix movies should check his/her facts first. The score was by Don Davis, a wonderful band named Juno Reactor, and contained songs by Paul Oakenfold, Rob Dougan, and several rock bands, but absolutely no BT songs were on the soundtracks to any of the 3 movies or the "Animatrix" short film collection, or any of the video games (so far).

This is a really interesting album, containing 7 ambient tracks that tend to follow the Concerto style of establishing a theme, varying the theme, then returning to it. Most of these songs follow this pattern in some shape or form. A major theme in here is youth, particularly infantile youth. I believe that Kaia is the name of his daughter, and supposedly he had her in his arms for many parts of this writing process. Many of the melodies are very beautiful in that infantile sort of way, giving you the impression that they are lullabies of sorts.

They are wonderfully crafted with an infinite amount of detail. There are subtle changes to almost every piece in every sequence. This is best enjoyed with headphones or in surround, as many other reviewers have noted.

The only parts that didn't fit well with me were the power chord sections of "Good Morning Kaia" which clashed with the rest of the album. The jazz section of "Dynamic Symmetry" also sounded quite robotic and lifeless. Jazz does not fit in well with the kind of perfection of sound that BT uses, at least in this attempt.

Major highlights are the orchestral sections in "The Antikythera Mechanism", which are booming and powerful, and get torn apart cleverly by his editing. The other is the core of the song "1.618" (a BRAVE title for a song, I might add), which is this gorgeous hook at a walking pace that you could loop and listen to for 20 minutes.

Overall, wonderful sculpting and a dizzying array of effects make the replay value on this music through the roof. A bit more work on the last track and a little more life in the short jazz section would've made it near perfect.

5 out of 5 stars OMFG.......2007-05-16

I dont really like the housey stuff by BT (or anyone) but this album has a classical sensibility and an epic feel that i love about other ambient electronica. If you like ambient electronica- this CD is perfectly crafted - I'm not joking - its like... f'n... perfect.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2007-05-14

BT is a genious. This CD/DVD combo is a little different from a lot of his stuff I've heard in the past, but it is still excellent. The quality of the music on this CD MUST be listened to with good headphones to be truely appreciated! I am no audiophile, and I reguarly poke fun at their gigantic headphones, but in BT's case, this CD deserves the special treatment. You will miss a LOT of what he is including in his music if you listen with speakers. The DVD is also fantastic. The DTS surround makes it even better. It's great background video/music for a party. Do not download this from iTunes, buy the high quality CD/DVD and you won't be sorry!

The master of comedy doesn't dissapoint. He is a true comic genius and a master of his craft. Own all of his cd's you will never be tired of listening to them. Same goes for the DVD's he has out.

5 out of 5 stars Lewis Black is brilliant .......2007-01-19

Here Mr. Black takes on the government after 9/11 plus other topics with intellegence and wonderful spot on observations. He is also very funny. This is my favorite album of his so far.

3 out of 5 stars he's no bill cosby, but.........2006-11-08

I liked this cd a lot. The End Of The Universe skit is hilarious. My only gripe, and don't call me a pu**y for saying this, is that he swears too much. I have no problem with swearing, it's just he uses it so much sometimes, it gets annoying. Instead of being part of his act, the whole angry thing becomes his act. At times, it's just annoying. He could easily get across the same jokes without yelling and saying fu*k every two words. Some of this jokes are hilarious while some really aren't that funny. They're observations that we all make, he just yells them.

5 out of 5 stars His best album.......2006-09-06

While all of Lewis Black's comedy albums are very good, his second release, The End of the Universe, remains his best release to date. Released months after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01, Black's delivery is passionate and intelligent throughout the album. Whether he's ranting on the over the top spectacle that has become the Super Bowl, the U.S. government's lack of common sense, or the ridiculousness of airport security, Black's observations are both humorous and accurate. Also worth noting is that unlike his more recent albums like the Carnegie Hall Performance, the album never becomes long winded or too political. Other tracks that deal with Jerry Falwell's controversial statements about 9/11 and global warming are also very funny and dead on. An excellent album from one of the best comedians working today, The End of the Universe shows Lewis Black at the height of his powers. Highly recommended.

Album Description

As we explore the depths of our "self", our "souls", through massage, relaxation, and other healing modalities, we gain experience and knowingness. The music from Detaching The World Vol. 1 is a transient, which allows for this knowingness to occur in a peaceful, tranquil, and comforting environment.

This CD has been created to provide over 60 minutes in running time without the use of vocals or percussion. Emil Gagliardi has introduced a new style of guitar called "The Nuit's Effect" named after its rich soothing textures and deep earthy tones. From the opening cut of "Tranquil Sunrise", Gagliardi's swirling guitar immediately sets the perfect mood for massage and relaxation. The density of "The Valley Beyond" swallows you up in a tapestry of color similar to a warm blanket while the hauntingly beautiful "Fallen Angel" resembles a fresh new day after a storm.

Gagliardi's vision of creating the perfect massage and relaxation music sets Detaching The World (Vol. 1) apart from all others. Its purpose is to serve gentleness and ease like the inhalation and exhalation of the breath.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars ***PERFECT FOR MASSAGE - BEAUTIFULLY RELAXING***.......2007-08-01

I originally discovered the music of Detaching the World at the Canyon Ranch in Tucson. After having one of the most cleansing deep tissue massages ever, I fell in love with the music of Vol. 4 and started to incorporate it into my massage practice. Needless to say, the music has been a success with myself and my clients ever since.
I was recently given Detaching the World Vol. 1 as a present by one of my regulars who happens to also love this music. I couldn't believe what I had been missing!!! I just started using it on a few clients and already people are melting away with the beautiful touch of this music. Everything about this CD is perfect for massage:

- The length (60+ mins, most of my clients are an hour long)
- The flow (a slow yet even match with my hands)
- The volume (the consistency remains throughout the disk)
- The sound (beautiful layered textures of music, apparently guitar)
- The quality (100%)
- The happiness from my clients (they look refreshed and comment positively to the music)
- My happiness as a therapist with this music (100%)

For me, this CD is a gold mine compared to my other relaxation CDs. Like Vol. 4, Vol. 1 is a keeper and will not leave you or your clients disappointed. Don't pass this one up!

1 out of 5 stars Detaching the World Vol 1.......2007-06-27

I purchased this CD based on the reviews alone,In comparison to other meditation Cd's I own; this CD ranks far below. The music is in my opinion anything but relaxing. Not suitable for meditation.

5 out of 5 stars Promising Debut by Ambient Guitarist Emil Gagliardi.......2007-05-23

Although guitarist Emil Gagliardi's debut CD was designed for massage, meditation, and relaxation, it is much more than that. The ambient release features soothing, New Age-style synthesizer sounds generated entirely by Emil's electric guitar. The result is not only a great therapeutic tool, but also a legitimate work of sonic art in the vein of Andy Summers' classic ambient guitar album, Mysterious Barricades. Emil Gagliardi is a guitarist to keep an eye out for. [...]

I got this gift for my boss since he is always so stressed. He closes his door sometimes and pops in the Cd to relax. Thanks!

Album Description

Yesterday's Universe continues to expand with astral speed. Since their first appearance on wax with 2000's Elle's Theme EP followed shortly thereafter by their debut LP, Angles Without Edges the group of esoteric jazz cats that make up Yesterdays New Quintet started a revolution of dusty, hazy, jazz instrumentals with a hip-hop sensibility. With mastermind producer Madlib leading the way, each member of the combo went on to record his own solo album or start his own offshoot project all within the Yesterdays New Quintet family. With Yesterday's Universe, Madlib collects his favorite unreleased tracks from the Quintet's many incarnations.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Essential summer listening........2007-07-31

Yesterday's Universe" is the most expansive, psychedelic, inspired and live collection of instrumentals so far and features a whole new slew of fronts: Young Jazz Rebels, Jackson Conti, Last Electro, and Jazzistics. We also find Madlib moving further from his hip-hop roots and jumping into the spiritually funky fusion of jazz, circa mid- to late-'70s. The sound is full and the rhythms are strong, and though he's pretty limber with the sticks, his drumming is tighter overall. The whole thing holds together in a true musical sense, like one of those jazz comps released by Impulse as opposed to the style merely being appropriated. It all seems less like a novelty this time, and has more to do with Pharaoh Sanders than with Pharaoh Monch. If you've been a fan since the Stevie Wonders covers album, "Yesterday's Universe" reaches further into the outer realms.
While most of us toy with jazz, there are those of us who can't get enough. As one who grew up with the likes of Cole Porter, Ella and Lady Day blaring from the speakers at home, I've always had a deep love for the music and the icons who shaped the sound. The jazz heads back in the day are what we house heads are today. They partied hard and made revolutionary music that made you think and escape if you felt so inclined. Contemporary jazz may seem terribly snooty and a little intimidating, that's why I suggest those who wish to explore the genre start here with the excellent Yesterday's New Quintet. To say "Yesterday's Universe" is nothing short of astounding is not an over-statement, it really is that great.
The music, while serious jazz, is one that novices can easily embrace, while the serious aficionados will take to this like a duck to water.
There's much here to masticate on from the Jazzistics and the politically charged "Marcus, Martin, Malcolm", The Otis Jackson Trio's 70's charged "Free Son", totes a lo-fi feel and a dirty, stripped naked sound. The Last Acoustic Electro Space Jazz and Percussion Ensemble serve it up on a seriously laidback level.
I highly recommend "Yesterday's Universe" as essential summer listening.

4 out of 5 stars Joyful fusion of free jazz and heady funk..........2007-07-31

The mega-prolific Madlib has returned with his Yesterdays New Quintet jazz project.
More than 5 years on from their debut, Madlib's five players are joined on this fifth yesterdays new quintet album by a host of new incarnations and guests to showcase their talents on "Yesterday's Universe". They represent a distinct facet of Madlib's musical universe, which we have finally come to realize is the universe of his mind, soundtracked by an astral collision of classic jazz, funk and fusion, and present-day hip hop.
"Yesterdays Universe" (Stones Throw) is another foray into free jazz, fusion, funk, almost entirely performed by Madlib himself (he does have several guests join him for this effort).
Once again, he dips deep into the catalogue of classic jazz as well as performing his own compositions.
The results are always engaging, especially since the work has a very unpolished, almost demo-like feeling at times.
A combination of live instruments and programmed sounds give new life to songs like Miles Davis's "Bitches Brew", "Street Talkin'" from Kamala Walker and "Slave Riot" from the Young Jazz Rebels.
So, if you are planning on opening a retro-cosmic jazz lounge in the near future, fear not for your performance budget, as all you will need for the first few months is this CD on repeat.
You may well find proceedings a tad slow and bland at first but persevere: there's enough smoked-out jazz groovation here to fill several vintage '70s Volkswagen buses, and enough of the Beat Conductor's acute rhythmic sensibility to carry most of the somewhat sparse, meandering melodies.
Of course, a large sack of ism might well afford heightened insight into the creative processes at work in its production, and you might want to dig out a beret and shades to benefit from the full experience.
Guest drummers Karriem Riggins and Mamão of the legendary Azymuth are at work somewhere in the astral swirl, but mostly it's Madlib's own prodigious multi-instrumental talent sincerely focussed on tootling, bumping and wurbling for an hour and change, and, as (almost) always, worth checking with it.
The results are anything short of perfection. Madlib is able to channel what the pinnacle of jazz music sounded like and creates the sort of club atmosphere only found on real jazz records.
Jazz has served as the foundation for many classic hip-hop records, and now, thankfully, hip-hop is returning the favour.

    5 out of 5 stars Donnie Darko.......2007-07-03

I was drawn to buy this CD because of hearing Michael's arrangement and Gary Jules rendition of "Mad World" which was originally recorded by Tears for Fears way back when. I glad I did. The music was written as the underscore for a Science Fiction movie by the same name and now I really want to see this film. The music is other worldly, ethereal and strange in a good way!

2 out of 5 stars just wanted "mad world".......2007-01-09

loved the mad world track from the Gears of War video game. was hoping the rest of the album was as cool, but it is all instrumentals. a little disappointing, i must admit.

5 out of 5 stars Gary Jules' remake of Mad World is superb!.......2007-01-06

Gary Jules' remake of this great past favorite (Mad World) is superb! The accompanying tracks on this album are not my style, but I didn't buy this for the other tracks. For that I feel this score is quite impressive.

2 out of 5 stars Liked only one cut.......2007-01-04

I bought this CD for the song "Mad World". Unfortunately it was the only one I liked, but I've spent more money on dumber things.

    4 out of 5 stars Atmospheric and all-around cool........2006-06-05

Michael Andrews is one of today's best composers. His score for the little-known sci-fi flick "Cypher" was brilliant, and although his music in Donnie Darko is never quite as good (after all, DD was one of his first real scoring jobs), it is a somber, weird, sometimes beautiful album.
Andrews uses many bizarre non-musical instruments and female vocals to great effect, and creates an ambient, sad world that works regardless of your having seen the film.
His song "Mad World" is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
The disk isn't very long--just a little over thirty-seven minutes as I recall. But definitely recommended.

    Album Description

In the second installment of the series, Connecting The Universe Music has released a new relaxing journey with Detaching The World Vol. 2 - Ambient music for massage/relaxation/meditation. Through exploration of the unconscious, this music was designed as an offering by the artist to bring about complete relaxation to the listener. It allows for the unknown self to awaken and remember with comfort and ease.

Musician and creator Emil Gagliardi brings to us nine new tracks with Vol. 2. This CD provides over 63 minutes in running time without the use of vocals or percussion. As the opening track "Peaceful Country" begins, Gagliardi's unique and inimitable style of ambient guitar immediately sets the tone for a tranquil relaxing atmosphere. On "Mirror", you feel yourself sinking deeper into the gentle hands of what the artist calls "The Nuit's Effect" while "The Fellowship" and "The Fellowship Reprise" are a meditation of three soothingly calm guitars journeying to the mystical unknown. "Hawaiian Compressions" is a three piece composition symbolizing the warming atmosphere of the sun while gently slipping into the earthy picturesque tones of "Healing Within". The last track, "Pulse", is the capture of a meditation right outside the artist's home where the ocean, mountains, and sky share one relaxed and rejuvenated heartbeat.

Emil Gagliardi continues to provide seekers of total relaxation with his unique and one of a kind style of music. As heard in the bestselling Detaching The World Vol. 1, his devotion to creating serene music for the healing arts goes unsurpassed by his peers. His music bestows upon the listener gentleness and ease like the inhalation and exhalation of the breath.

5 out of 5 stars Ambient Guitarist Emil Gagliardi Dazzles on Second Album.......2007-05-23

Emil Gagliardi shows what he's made of in this spectacular follow-up. Laying down atmospheric riffs and hypnotic patterns against a backdrop of lush guitar-generated textures, Gagliardi creates canyons of sound that seem to come from the heavens and reverberate across a vast stretch of land beneath a starry expanse of sky. Combining the guitar stylings of Andy Summers, Robert Fripp, Allan Holdsworth, and even George Harrison, Gagliardi forges a unique and unparalleled style all his own. [...]

5 out of 5 stars serene ambient guitar to help aid a stressful mind.......2004-10-27

Lately I've been submerging myself in yoga, morning meditation, T'ai Chi, and massage therapy to help my mind, body and spirit cope with the loss of a loved one. My sister (who raves about this artist) gave me this cd on my birthday in hopes that it would aid through the grieving process and help me relax.

Soon after my birthday, I finally had an afternoon to do nothing but try and unwind. I took my portable cd player outside with this cd and lied in my hammock. A few minutes after hitting play, I closed my eyes and had the most intense visualizations. It was as if each note from this music embraced my soul and projected a movie of warmth and comfort in my eyelids.

A few hours went by as I lay in my hammock listening to this cd repeat over and over. The calming effects of this music, combined with the hammock, had relaxed me beyond words. It was as if the stress detached my world (no pun intended).

As I look through the liner notes, I notice that this entire cd was created with guitars. Never in my life have I heard guitar sound so angelic and peaceful. All of this cd is great, yet the piece of music that comforts my heart the most is Pulse. Pulse has a calm heartbeat sound with this airy guitar melody that dances gently through the notes. Absoulutly beautiful!

I am bringing this cd to my next massage appointment in hopes that my therapist too will feel the heavenly ambiance that this music provides.

5 out of 5 stars My client's favorite pick for bodywork!.......2004-06-06

Just got volume 2. Delicious! What an encore. Nicely divergent from Volume 1. It seems to be more 'grounded' than the prior work but still retaining the flavors of space. You can tell this artist respects the delicate atmosphere needed for massage. This cd is successful with a client who is beyond picky with his musical choices during our sessions. Muchas gracias!

5 out of 5 stars the most creative musical journey.......2003-12-15

Having had so many incredible experiences listening and working with Detaching The World Vol. 1, I purchased Vol. 2 without hesitation. Although different from the first CD, the musicians style of meditative guitar transforms me and resonates with me similiar to Vol. 1. It seems as if the music puts me in a trance sending me to another place - a place where everything is calm and nothing can go wrong. My thoughts disappear and I capture the importance of being in every moment. This CD is mellow enough for deep relaxation yet also great music to play in the car on a long roadtrip. Either way it is definitely a journey that everyone should experience. I also find it important to listen from beginning to end without stopping - each track almost leads you to the next. It's as if a story is formed in track 1 that sends you wanting to know more in track 2. This continues until the "grand finale" which is a "heartbeat"-like song - sending you immediataly inward on your own journey. This is a beautiful CD.

Jason Kay melds his longtime '70s fixations with '80s style synths on Dynamite, Jamiroquai's first record since 2001's A Funk Odyssey. It's been a long time since the acid jazz/funk hit "Virtual Insanity" (1996's Traveling Without Moving, to be exact), and even though the band never became the huge hit machine they seemed destined to become, they've continued to put out solid work. Odyssey and 1999's Synkronized showed off Kay's dexterity with this material, mining urban dance grooves from a goldmine of Motown, Stevie Wonder and far-ranging disco and soul. Dynamite keeps going, constructing an exuberant club vibe out of R&B styles, but also borderline electro ("Electric Mistress"), jumpy Squeeze-style pop ("Black Devil Car") and soulful, smooth nostalgia ("Seven Days In Sunny June"). A would-be guilty pleasure, only without the guilt, Kay's musical obsessions combine with his burgeoning talent on Dynamite to create another winner. --Matthew Cooke

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Strong........2007-05-30

This is one the strongest efforts by Jamiroquai. He has cretaed his own style which is very recognisable and, of course, he keep persuing it. Jamiroquai is innovative because he is different from others. And, this is true to his every album.

"Dynamite" is diverse in tempo and includes a number of really good songs. Some of them you may enjoy when you are up in the spirit and need some further drive, the others will serve well when you are a bit down in the mood. The album is recorded very well, both highs and lows. Very well defined bass. The voice sounds very natural. The sound engineering is great.

You will enjoy both the music and the sound. You will hear the details that add to the overall perception of this highly recommended CD. Take time and it will grow on you even more.

5 out of 5 stars Great blend of pop, rock, jazz, dance music !.......2007-03-15

Jamiroquai propels their tunes with a contagious rhytmic section of bass & drums, plus a jazzy piano, swinging pop lyrics, some tasteful guitar work and on top of that a great excuse for hitting the dance floor or at least tap a beat with your feet or hands. Excellent !

5 out of 5 stars The Space Cowboy Does it Again!.......2007-01-27

Dymanmite is yet another montage of eclectic musical genius from Jamirouquai. Although this album is phenomenal it is no better than any of the others. Only different, on yet another level. But then again each of their albums are an expression of the mind(s) and soul(s) behind the sound, boundless. If you haven't yet seen Jamiroquai in concert you must put attending a performance in the US or abroad high on your list of priorities. Why? Don't ask just go and see for yourself. By the way, my favorite song from the album is Seven Days in Sunny June.

    4 out of 5 stars Great album..........2007-01-13

A long time Jamiroquai fan, I was disappointed when I first listened this record... somehow I was looking for it to best "A Funk Odyssey" and "Synkronized" right away. I had forgotten how long it took for those albums to grow on me. After having "Dynamite" in the collection for 3 weeks, I have come the conclusion that this album is a worthy continuation of the Jay Kay saga. If you are a die hard fan, I think you'll find it hard to rate the album above "A Funk Odyssey" and "Synkronized" but probably right on par.

GIVE YOURSELF TIME for this album to grow on you...

    5 out of 5 stars DYNAMITE.......2006-09-18

After a four year hiatus since the release of their last cd 'A Funk Odyssey', Jamiroquai is back and better than ever. With thirteen years and five hit records including 'Traveling Without Moving' and 'Synkronized' under their belt, this is one band that understands the concept of "if it aint broke, don't fix it".

With their latest effort 'Dynamite' a heavier, edgier Jamiroquai is brought to light. This album, though slightly more guitar oriented (as heard on tracks 'Loveblind' and 'Black Devil Car') still manages to keep that funky flavor we all know and love. As is true with most great recordings of our time, this album is not necessarily a love at first play affair. Give it a couple of listens however and there will be no need to make extra space in your cd rack, as it will never leave your player.

The first track 'Feels Just Like It Should', slaps you with a groove so raunchy it'll curl your mothers hair. Although Jay Kay uses no "actual" profanity in his lyrics, the implied subject matter definitely keeps up with the trashy vibe set by the distorted bass and funky back beat drums.

For me though, the album really kicks into gear with the second song and coincidentally title track, 'Dynamite'. This along with songs such as 'Starchild', '(Don't) Give Hate A Chance' and 'Time Won't Wait', is where the band brings us back into familiar territory via a mixture of solid dance beats, funky bass lines, smooth, dynamic vocals and flirtatious melodies. This vintage disco/funk genre is definitely where the band is in their comfort zone, and where they seem to shine the brightest.

An instant vibe is set in the song 'Seven Days In Sunny June' that makes you feel almost as if your listening to one of your own memories. The cool and breezy feel of this one sets an ideal backdrop to Jay Kay's tale of summer, friendship and unrequited love ( or lust maybe? ) This song is a prime example of a perfect marriage between words and music.
'World That He Wants' is a departure from Jay Kay's usual dilettantish approach to lyrical composition. This song conveys a strong and poignant message about the tragic state of affairs in the world and the man responsible for them. By using sparser instrumentation on this track Jamiroquai takes a detour from their normal "groove oriented" format placing more emphasis on the lyrical content.

All in all, the arrangements, musicianship and production value on this album are the same high quality we've come to expect from this band over the years. In my opinion this is their best work to date, (not to mention one of the best live shows I've seen in a long time). Do yourself a favor and add this amazing album to your cd collection.

In summation 'Dynamite' is, well... DYNAMITE!!!

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars I love this album!!!.......2007-05-07

I was looking for a soothing and romantic jazz for a long time. And now I've got it! This album has beautiful jazz music, romantic, relaxing in a serene night. I like playing the CD when I have things on hands. It doesn't distract me when I want to do something in a calm background.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Find.......2007-02-19

Excellent soft jazz music. Perfect for a nice dinner, reading, but a little busy to drift off to sleep. Not really romantic by the way, which is what I wanted... try the Beegie Adair Trio's "Love, Elvis" for romantic and relaxing. Amazon has it.

1 out of 5 stars Buyer beware of this seller - Damaged goods.......2006-10-14

Disk One of is damaged and unreadable by any CD drive. By policy, seller won't do anything about it. Seller's on my Don't Buy List.

5 out of 5 stars SMOOOOTHHH... Very Relaxing!.......2006-03-08

I ordered the 2nd volume of this one 1st (so THAT's where the reviewer with the loose bowels can go from here!-LOL), & although the 2nd volume has a slightly airy sound behind some of the recordings, I did like the selections of songs on it a little better. This one is still quite worthy of the title though. Over 2 hours of Smooooth Jazz to lull you & let your mind escape the madness of life! I listen to this one very often & HIGHLY Recommend both volumes!
