"sad towers of sound ... kin to: low, mogwai, galaxie 500, jessamine and flying saucer attack"

Product Description
Insanely gorgeous 2nd album which has had us reeling for several weeks now. On their debut, Timonium exuded a lush, warm, and extraordinarily sad beauty with sparse songwriting akin to those slowcore favorites like Low, Codeine, etc. On Resist Education, they transcend just about everything, as they take this brand of songwriting to the next level, somehow outdoing the perfection that was Suspende Animation. These 5 tracks - ranging from 2:35 to a whopping 22:15 in length - carry you off into a far away place. The opening track Crushed Discs begins the album perfectly, with a rolling steadiness, showcasing shimmering sheets of guitar wash noise with subtlety, all while Tracy's voice melts your mind. Inflatable Sculptures follows with an instrumental bliss, incorporating some post-electronic tinges to the sparse song structure. Leave Me in Droves returns the band to their excruciatingly heartwrenching craftsmanship, leaving the listener to wonder how they could so ! perfectly write a song that could snugly nestle itself onto one of Codeine's albums with effortless ease in its beginning, and then transcends into a whole new dimension of wonderful driftiness for the song's remainder. Continental Drift is mindboggling in that the song is so familiar, so perfect… you swear it reminds you of a dozen things yet is unlike anything else. There seems to be a different style of production on each and every instrument - yet it all blends together for an unreal effect, taking off into new heights at about the halfway mark., after which it blends into the most extreme and best-executed fade-out I've ever heard in all my years with ears. Then Rae Luce closes out the album, sending you off completely, with it's sprawling yet lulling neverending instrumental close to the album, with a tear in your eye. Goddamn you Timonium… why do you have to spoil it for the rest of them? Near perfection. One of the year's best, yet again. (Daniel of Clairecords)

5 out of 5 stars angular minimalist brillance.......2002-02-04

"resist education" takes a step away from their first ep, "suspende animation," another amazing feat of melodic tension built to high sonic terrain. tracy's synthesized bass and vocals start off this ep with "crushed disks" - an angularly dark and hypnotically beautiful track that will have you humming for days and weeks. this is the standout track for me. the other 4 tracks are amazing, as well, especially the spookily cinematic and evocative "leave me in droves" - adam and the group play so well off each other, especially with building tension and dynamics. i can't wait for their upcoming full length. if you liked "suspende animation," get this release. you won't regret it.
