About the Artist
Robin Spielberg began studying piano at the age of seven. By the age of ten she had composed over 50 songs. Growing up outside New York City, Robin's family frequented the theater and her love American drama flourished in her teens. After highschool she attended Michigan State University and NYU, and graduated with high honors from NYU's drama department .
A founding member of the New York-based Atlantic Theater Company, Robin's acting teachers included playwright/director David Mamet and actor/director/writer William H. Macy. While pursuing a career as an actress , Robin continued her piano studies and upon graduation began performing in New York City's finest piano rooms. It was in these rooms that her craft as a composer were honed. Her acting credits include 60 off broadway productions and two productions by Howard Korder at Lincoln Center.
In 1993 she released her debut CD, Heal of the Hand, a collection of original piano solos. Engineered by Steven Miller, who had engineered many famous piano recordings (Liz Story, George Winston, Scott Cossu), the CD earned Robin a six-record deal with North Star Music the following year. As Robin's popularity as a composer and pianist soared, she gradually let go of her acting ambitions and began touring as a concert pianist...but not completely. Her "one-woman piano show" has the markings of a theatrical event, complete with monologues and song. Robin has performed hundreds of concerts around the U.S. She was named to the prestigious Steinway Roster in 1996. In 2000, she was selected to be the Celebrity Artist Spokesperson for the American Music Therapy Association. That same year she began her own music label, playMountain Music. "Memories of Utopia" is the fifth release on the label. Like all her recordings of her original work, it was engineered by Steven Miller.
Her Asian concert debut takes place in Korea August 2004.
