Canyon Trilogy

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com essential recording
Nakai's free improvisations on this album are based on his impressions of the Anasazi and Sinagua sites, ancient cliff dwellings that were home to communities of Native people thousands of years ago. By using the Roland SDE 3000 Digital Delay system, Nakai is able to play duets with his own echo, in an effort to emulate the echoes of the past that haunt these ruins. On this recording, Nakai's flute sounds even more plaintive than usual, as if the spirits of these forgotten ancestors had entered into the studio to fill his playing with the whispered reverberations of their ancient ways. This is one of Nakai's most deeply felt recordings, one that resonates with a deep, melancholy yearning. --j. poet

5 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful.......2007-01-15

I first heard of R. Carlos Nakai on the music channel I have on cable and I instantly fell in love with his music. This album is simply amazing, it's beauty is haunting and I can't begin to tell everyone how very pleased I am with my purchase of this cd. Every song is a masterpiece and the fact that each song is played in a canyon/cave adds to the mysterious quality of the music. This is a great album for anyone who is interested in Native American flute music and Nakai is the best in this genre.

5 out of 5 stars The Master.......2007-01-04

This CD replaced a tape that has been a favorite of mine. Wonderful.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME Native American Flute Music!.......2006-11-14

R. Carlos Nakai is the best of the best among those playing Native American flute, and this C.D. is his absolute best. It transports one into higher dimensions and brings peace. I can't say enough good stuff about this C.D. I had wanted it for years and I finally got it! It was worth the wait.

5 out of 5 stars The Most Important Release In Rock in Nearly Twenty Years.......2005-06-11

I'm ASTOUNDED anyone could impugn the relevance that this release has to music in general. There is nothing played on MTV, nor awarded at the Grammys, that compares with the significance of the release. The utter obtusity showcased in too many reviews of this release is amazing. This man has made legitimate Classical Music...the type that can stand up to most of the greatest, and he's a "ridiculous rock person". Deep Purple, Rainbow, and MOST CERTAINLY NOT Metallica never approached the magnitude of this accomplishment. The preposterous, Rabble-oriented reaction to this dvd on Amazon portrays the horrible, style over substance attitude of "music" fans everywhere.
If you enjoy listening to something that is a Landmark in Rock music, this is the release to buy. It is the ultimate accomplishment of Yngwie's career. It is the high point of Rock music since the early '80's. Maybe I'm crazy for seeing...GRASPING the significance of this historical landmark. In any case, if you love progression in Rock music, or ANY type of music BUY BUY BUY!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Dissapointed.......2004-02-28

All I ever wanted was for Yngwie to shut up and play; I chomped at the bit for two years before I got this album as a gift. Unfortunately, the instrumentals on his metal albums which I so enjoy apparently exhausted his supply of good material, because not even the reworks of previous stuff on this album are worth listening to. I'd like to send him the cd and ask for my money back. Back to Trilogy I go...

4 out of 5 stars Czech vs. New Japan Philharmonic.......2004-01-10

To me, the CD done with the Czech Philharmonic is superior to this one with the New Japan Philharmonic because of the audio mix. I feel the Czech one is more balanced whereas this one has Yngwie's playing mixed a little too strongly and occasionally overshadowing important aspects of the orchestra. However, if you are more interested in hearing his guitar work, then you would probably prefer this version. Actually, since the only DVD of this work is of this performance with the New Japan Philharmonic, I got it on DVD and got the Czech version on CD.
(NOTE: For those interested in the DVD, it is quite hard to find since it comes out of Japan, but can usually be found on Ebay.)

1 out of 5 stars Really boring to listen to........2003-12-27

Again another album with unbelievable reviews. YGM has always regarded himself as a modern day Paganini, but even Paganini was never as repetitive as this. Uli Jon Roth is the king of this kind of 'orchestral music making', check out his recent 'Legends of Rock' album and you'll see what I'm talking about.

4 out of 5 stars One Fans Review.......2002-10-14

I`ve always thought Yngwie`s style and technique would blend well with a symphonic arangement. Though I enjoyed the Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra in E Flat Minor Op.1, I felt the overall production was a little dense and Yngwie`s guitar was a little buried in the mix. That`s why I like this live version with the new japan philharmonic so much more. Even though it`s live, the Orchestra performance is cleaner and more powerfull, yet it never over powers Yngwie`s guitar. His playing on this night was fantastic as well as flawless. You can clearly every note and the two encores(Blitzkrieg, Far beyond the sun)hold up pretty well with a symphonic arangement. This CD is more for a big fan of Yngwie`s Neo Classical Style than of casual fan more familiar with his Rising Force CD`s.
