Pierre Bensusan has always used his voice as a supporting harmonic instrument behind his acoustic guitar, but on Wu Wei, his vocals are more prominent than ever. Only three songs on the recording feature actual lyrics, but on four of the five other songs, the Parisian musician uses scat syllables as a second lead instrument; sometimes the voice accompanies the guitar, and sometimes the guitar accompanies the voice. The result is a new sound for a guitarist who has long dazzled listeners with his facility and his John Renbourn-like mix of Celtic, jazz, and Arabic influences. --Geoffrey Himes

Pure perfection! It simply is, one of the greatest finger-style, guitar albums ever.

You cant go wrong, and it cant be matched in chops, writing and passion.

Bensusan, is considered one of the greatest guitarists in the world so you will get an earfull of great acoustic guitar picking....he also vocalizes over some tunes occassionally (80% instrumental 20% w/vocals), typically folksy lament in French or pure abstract scatisms....now imagine a Frenchman scatting over solo guitar with a celtic flavor, at the highest degree of beauty and technique.......

Considered a leader in Celtic interpretations as well, playing exclusively in the DADGAD tuning...

...you have Bensusan.

Pierre Bensusan is an innovator in the guitar playing, he influenced many guitarrist around the world and he has an incredible touch and feeling. During the recording process of this record, his father died, and this fact affected him, an this is expressed in part of the music on this cd. He is a truly innovator and fuses different styles of music. This cd is very good, but not as excellent as "Solilai", his masterpiece.

This cd is a special one for Pierre Bensusan, the recording process of this cd lasted a lot, because his father died during this process; so he was affected by this situation. Part of the music of this compact reflexs this feeling. He is an excellent guitarrist, he's an innovator in the execution of this instrument, and fuses diferent styles of music. He influenced to many guitarrist around the world. This Cd. is excellent, but not as much as his masterpiece: "Solilai".

Good lesser-known repertoire.......2007-08-04

Another great renaissance album by the ABQ. This one has a lot of little-known works, all of which are well executed. I may be wrong, but I believe that Ray and Chris are playing flugelhorns on the Cangiasi, Biumi, and Canali, which makes for an interesting and effective sound combination.
