Zero comfort margin and human harvest are a must have if you are a fan of the death/grind genre. Although this record isn't recorded particularly clearly turn it up and it still gives an amazing affect. Overwhelmingly fast drumming, chuggy and speedy string work and extremely powerful, inhuman vocals are what makes circle of dead children masters of obscene metal. As many deathmetal/grindcore/horrorcore bands circle of dead children have an evil lute to their music, the fact that this cd comes with "TERROR ALERT: may contain backward and/or subliminal messages" written down the side of the case you can tell that circle of dead children have really pushed the boat out on this evil aura. The album art work containing many pictures of dissection notes and sketches also take a look at the picture of the little devil on page three of the booklet, look familiar? The vocals on this album are what make it for me; vocalist Joe Horvath uses a brilliant array of death growls, shrieks, screams, squeals and some sounds that I have never heard made by any man nor beast. I say buy this album and crank it up.

Circle Of Dead Children is a band I stumbled upon completely by mistake. The name of the band and the cover art piqued my interest so I decided to get Zero Comfort Margine. I expected some pretty insane music judging from the reviews but no review will ever prepare you for for how completely chaotic this band really is.

Yes this is metal, so of course the heavy riffs, double bass drums, and crazy bass will be there. But for me it's the vocals that sets CoDC apart from the others. You may think you've heard a death metal vocalist have range, but I can almost guarantee that none can touch Joe Horvath. No words can really describe his style, but let it be known that he's the best I've ever heard.

The fact that there's a 'Terror Alert' on the CD that says this CD "may contain backward and/or subliminal messages" kind of lets you in on what to expect, that and the song titles. There are some rather funny sound clips during a few of the songs that make a statement or two as well, I like the one where the guys talks about complete freedom the best. The lyrics are especially brutal, something you really just need to read for yourself. Lets just say it's quite clear this band is mad about a lot of things. Basically, Circle Of Dead Children is the band that your mom would never want you to listen to.

My favorite songs are No Tears Fall Through Hollow Eye Sockets, Host(age), Bohemian Grave, Strip Naked For The Killer, and For Black Eyes Only a.k.a. Depopulate: Tears Of Illuminati. Despite the fact that this is such a short CD, I loved every minute of it. If you're new to this brand of metal, definitely look elsewhere first, I thought I was into some heavy stuff but this CD blew me away. Suffice to say, this won't be the last Circle Of Dead Children CD I buy.

then youll probably like this one too. not as good as human harvest, but hey, not many albums are. good drumming, crazy vocals, solid riffs. another worthy release from the circle.

Which version of The Margin would you like, sir? The original 1985 double vinyl version on Foundry (FONDL 1); or the Virgin single CD reissue (CDOVD 345) which omitted 'The Second Hand'; or the German Date single CD reissue (DACD 9005790) which omitted both 'The Second Hand' and 'The Sphinx in the Face'; or the illicit bootleg version, 'The Secret Asteroid Jungle'; or the other illicit bootleg version, 'A Stranger Still'? These last two feature hardly sparkling audience recordings and are unavailable and not to be purchased even if they were as they are illegal. Which is a shame as, on the latter, you get a virtually complete K Group set, with tracks such as 'The Siren Song', 'Just Good Friends', 'Losing Faith in Words', amongst other classics, unavailable elsewhere, not even on this, The Margin + , on Hammill's Fie!, the remastered, crystalline version which strikes a balance between the original official recordings on CD1; and audaciously steals back ( and quite right too) from the bootleggers, virtually all the illegal 'The Secret Asteroid Jungle' recording to make up CD2. By the way, for the completist, it restores, albeit in a different version to the original LP version, 'The Second Hand'. It's a secret asteroid jungle out there, Margin fans. Hammill also adds some illuminating and atmospheric liner 'your correspondent on the spot' notes that take us back to the German beat-club space-time continuum in which the K Group performed...

Amazingly Contemporary................2006-10-23

One of Hammill's many interestingly creative periods, The Margin represents his K period 82-85 with Nic Potter, Guy Ellis and VDGG original Guy Evans, one of my very favorite periods that produced studio efforts "Enter K" and "Patience". The Margin follows on as a representation of the magic they produced together in a live setting.
Recently reissued as a two disc expanded set (2002) with additional liner notes from Hammill this is a must own set for any collection that contains VDGG or Hammill material.
Upon revsiting in it's new format I'm taken back at how amazing this set really is with an over the wall version of "Future Now", the impactfull and reflective "Porton Down" while the 20+ minutes of "Flight" from "A Black Box" is stunning.
A must own piece of music that never dates by a truly inventive and creative soul that refuses to give into the fame machine.
Awesome stuff experienced by the few who know.......................

The players: the great HAMMILL on vox and piano. Extraordinaire ex Van der graaf drummer guy evans, Nic potter, also former VDGG on bass, and a very good ex- Stranglers axe man. Their chemistry is perfect and the material is way deep. The sound is that of a very acceptable remastered, clean, Bootleg.
