Editorial Reviews
Product Description
This CD is 20 tracks of typically beautiful music from the master of Japanese movie soundtracks. The movie itself tells the true story of Sakamoto Tetsumu, a boy, who at an early age went to Thailand to learn to be an elephant trainer. In the process he dies in Japan while trying to build an elephant park. That's it! The big promotion point here is that Shining Boy And Little Randy is the follow-up movie of Yagira Yuya, the kid who won best actor at the Cannes Film Festival last year for his performance in Kore-eda's Nobody Knows. Warner. 2005.

Let's hear it for girl-positive soundtracks! This one treads ground familiar to fans of Freaky Friday, though it skews younger, going easier on the rock. Most of the tracks are new, which is refreshing, and the best of the bunch hop and bounce with absolutely infectious verve. In fact, the first five are pretty unimpeachable slices of energetic pop, with Liz Phair reminding everybody that she can craft some of the best choruses in town, Joanna delivering classic "whoo-hoo"s on "Pretty Much Amazing," and the Donnas and Katie Melua bringing it all home with covers of Kim Wilde's "Kids in America" and Robert Palmer's "Looking for Clues," respectively. Newcomers Price and Persephone's Bees play groovy 1960s songs, while J-Kwon and Cupid deliver light, party-happy hip-hop tracks. The sensitive, female-voiced side of things is represented by Corinne Bailey Rae's familiar "Like a Star" and Norwegian band Flunk's Björkish, acoustic-flavored cover of New Order's "Blue Monday," which is so mellow that it takes off the song's pained edge--although it wouldn't be entirely surprising if it turned into a surprise hit, as with Frente's cover of "Bizarre Love Triangle." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Vol. 2 Is Definitely Better .......2007-06-29
Fooly Cooly had an amazing deal with the Pillows who provided amazing music for them and it shows on these soundtracks. This is a good album but it lacks a bit. Though I think Vol.2 is better this is still a hot album. For one it only gives you a taste of "Last Dinosaur" on the first track, it only lasts about 20 seconds. Of course "Ride on shooting star" is hot and it will definitely get you into the CD. After that there are very nice songs like "Hybrid Rainbow" and a lot of Pillows instrumentals. The instrumentals are hot don't get me wrong but Sawao has a great voice and I would have loved to have heard it instead of just the music. I got the second volume first because a friend told me that the songs were better. If you're like me and did this then you'll be happy to know that the Drama's aren't on here so there's more room for more music. "Little Busters" is also very nice, I love the hook and "Instant Music" is also one of my favorites. I think that the FLCL soundtracks are amazing and The Pillows are an amazing band that gives great quality music on this album. I only take away a star for the instrumentals which I wish had Sawao on them and that's a personal preference because some people may like them the way they are but this album is still very worth it.
I'd give something higher, but..........2007-03-29
I actually saw FLCL after being introduced to The Pillows, which is a bit backwards. It's partly because of this that I have issues with the soundtrack. While supplying you with the superb music of The Pillows and some Shinkichi Mitsumune, there are some problems with the CD.
For one thing, there are numerous soundtracks. It gets VERY confusing as to which one has what songs. Some soundtracks have the same songs, but different versions.
That's the main problem, though. This, being a soundtrack, only provides us with the glimpses we got from the show as opposed to the full songs by The Pillows themselves. While still nice, thirty second clips are not too substantial. A few songs are long and full, but for the most part, it's quick and short.
Really, if you just watched the show, then this is a good album to purchase. You liked the music and you want to hear it again, here's your buy. For Pillows fans: turn elsewhere.
A great mix of The Pillows past work.......2006-06-17
Hmm, FLCL, what a great way to start to become a Pillows fan. Without this amazing anime, I would never of met one of my now favorite bands. Though that's how many americans met them.
This CD features much of the music from FLCL, and really gave the show it's good feel, but I'm going to break this down. The FLCL Soundtracks are basically a mix of many of The Pillows past work. It features many different types of music that they can play as well, which shows their creaitivity in music. They also bring a whole heartedly good feel to it as well. From the haunting song Stalker Goes To Babylon (From their 2nd Compliation, Another Morning, Another Pillows, which came out in 2002) to the Japanese equse Bran-New Lovesong (From their 1999 album Runner's High) , there's a lot of variety and a lot to love.
Basically many songs from their 5th album through their 8th album are on this and the other cd. A few of which are tweaked slightly , like Advice, which was originally a little lighter with Sawao using a funny english accent to even funnier lyrics. And also Runner's High. However many of the songs were cut so they aren't the original verison. Don't start thinking these guys are an instrumental band by any means, they aren't. Well, yes they do have instruamental songs, but most of the songs on here are or were with lyrics in them. A few songs that were changed include Carnival, my personal favorite of theirs and they basically took out the lyrics and cut it down so it was only a minute or so long, compared to the original 4 and a half minute song, and Stalker wasn't really cut down, but the lyrics were taken out.
However this CD doesn't just feature The Pillows, it also has the works of Shinkichi Mitsumune, who uses syntesiers combined with actul insturments to create some very nice songs. Including the somber Rever's Edge to the poppy Pink.
This CD is a great CD, if not the best way to introduce yourself to The Pillows. It'll be helpful in your choosing of wheater or not you want to own more of their CDs, and definatly shows their amazing variety.
AMAZING.......2006-03-06
Knowing that there are probably not a lot of FOOLY COOLY fans out there I think that this soundtrack is AMAZING. The music in the series went perfect with the story. The music in the bacjround of a animated show should be uplifting and make you want to dance or hear it again. that is why I rated the soundtrack 5 out of 5. I also think it is a perfect deal for CD ADDICT and CD KING OF PIRATES, because byou would all the tracks from the show.AMAZING
Power Chord guitar with a wild ride!.......2006-02-06
I tripped over "Fooly Cooly" on Adult Swim around 2:00am one night and thought that it was the wierdest things I'd ever seen. Now I've got the whole series on DVD. Even after watching it repeatedly, I STILL think it's one of the trippiest, acid-induced, wacked out, STRANGEST series anywhere. The visual style (and the plot line) is truly something from a seriously deranged mind. In other words: I loved it inside the first 5 minutes.
One of the things that grabbed me and held on tight was the music. It plays against the story and setting perfectly and will make you watch the episodes JUST to hear the tracks. I finally found out about the soundtrack and had to have it. I quickly discovered that there are 4 or 5 FLCL soundtracks and started trying to figure out WHICH ONE had the tracks I wanted. I finally stumbled over "Addict" and this is definitely the one for the FLCL fan. (The track that had my brain totally stuck is from the beginning of episode 1 called "One Life").
The music has alot of heavy power-chord distorted guitar riffs set against a range of sounds that are up and down the scale. This is one of those CD's that will definitely test your ability to fine-tune the equalizer because one second it's all high's and the next there's a LOUD old-school distorted electric guitar roar with a banging tough back beat.
It's a great CD and even though "The Last Dinosaur" is only the 30 second version (apparently there is a "full" version, but I haven't heard it). The rest of the CD has all of the familiar sounds that makes the series so groovy and it MORE than makes up for that.
The Pillows are a groovy hardcore band with a sound that doesn't feel like anything else. This CD should NOT be listened to while driving because your foot gets really heavy when it rocks! (especially track #7 "Stalker"!)

It's Just Good.......2007-06-03
I was at the store and saw three FLCL sountracks... I was a bit boggled, I didn't do my research, but was feeling a vibe comming from OTS 3... I listened to it all the way home. It's great! It's real music and the lyrics don't "taint" the music from the show like most soundtracks.
I hear that OTS 1 & 2 contain the music lifted directly from the series... if that's what you want, get those... and this one too. It's just good.
A clever soundtrack.......2006-11-13
Not only is it a soundtrack but it also passes as a good album! I wasn't really fan of the show but a friend recommended the soundtracks to me and this was the first I bought, I plan on buying the others.
An Update........2005-12-17
I think the reviewers below have done an admirable job writing about this soundtrack, which is THE one to get in the FLCL series. It's all Pillows, and I highly recommend this band to anyone who likes latter day melodic Punk.
An easy comparison is Green Day. Whether that's unfair or inaccurate, this bands rocks hard and the songs are memorable. In fact they are so good that you'll find yourself singing to these in your best (or more likely, worst) Japanese!
However, be advised that you will not be getting the official Geneon (Pioneer) release if you pay $9.00 new from one of Amazon's vendors. The bootleg is so accurate that you'll have a hard time distinguishing.
However, if this is important to you, email the vendor first and ask them if this is an official release, or if it's on the K-O Trading Co., LTD label.
At such a reasonable price of roughly $20 for the Geneon label release (where The Pillows will get royalties!), I advise all fans of the series to help stomp out the ever growing bootleg problem and buy the official release.
this album blew me away.......2005-07-22
I am a big pillows fan, and this is the best album i've ever heard. By anyone. This album features many songs from Vol. 1, but this time, with words. Sad Sad Kiddie, Sleepy Head, Carnival, Come Down, Stalker, and Beautiful Morning With You all now have words, along with Addict (now called Advice). Runners High, instead of just having one verse, now has five. This greatly adds to the songs, and it has really halped me analyze the songs. I have found that much of the time, the background music clashes beautifully with the singer, both in rhythem and in pitch. Anyways, I would reecommend this to anyone who likes grunge or pop rock, especially if you own or have heard FLCL OST Vol. 1. A must buy for pillows fans, as this could easily be a Best of compilation.
It's finally here.......2005-07-16
Do you like FLCL?, Do you like the Pillows?, Do you want to hear their songs in their complete form?, If you answered yes to any of these questions then you must get this album now.

Great rock songs from the 70's
Fans of Classic rock will love this soundtrack!
The price is a bit high for a Import (Is it worth it?) Depends on if this is your type of music from the decade of disco
The lil extras from the show isn't much of a selling point

Description
The verse-defying, guitar-blasting J-Rock group the Pillows come roaring back with more sit-up-and-take-notice grooving beats and vocals on this second gem of a soundtrack to the ingeniously chaotic Fooly Cooly series. Musical collaborator Shinkichi Mitsumune (Utena, Love Hina, Sugar) spreads out more of his flavorful instrumentals to fuel the high dosage of anime insanity that inundates this quirky off-the-wall anime. This 17-track CD includes the vocal songs "Crazy Sunshine," "Blues Drive Monster," "White Ash," "LAST DINOSAUR" and "I think I can" along with five drama tracks.
Customer Reviews:
Another great mix of The Pillows past work.......2006-06-17
I already said a lot of what I wanted to say in the my review of the first OST (see that for more details) But, this is basically just a mix of stuff from their 5th album through their 8th one. They stil however cut many of the songs down, one being Patrica used to be much longer and with lyrics, it was from their 6th album Little Busters, and I'm pretty sure Nightmare was cut down as well. This is still a great way to be introduced to The Pillows and still shows their great variety, but the one reason to get this CD would have to be the song I Think I Can, which was espically made for this CD, meaning you can't find it anywhere else, this is the only album that The Pillows made with this song in it, and it is quite a good one (course all of them are aren't they?)
It once again features a few works by Shinikichi Mitsumune, and they are once again well done by his synteizers and instruments.
But, it also features a few dramas, which were made by the japanese cast of FLCL. Although no translations are given if you know what they are saying a few of them are quite hilarious.
As I said in the past review this CD is a great way to introduce yourself to The Pillows, sorry for being breifer on this one but I said much already in the last review. This CD is once again a mix of great work from The Pillows nd features some amazing work from Mitsumune, and hilarious dramas to boot, I'd tell the stie name for translations, but too lazy, just google. Till later, P! (Pillows symbol, incase you didn't know)
It's Missing Something.......2006-05-03
When you buy this soundtrack you know that your buying it for 12 songs and not 17 because five tracks are Japanese Drama's which take up about eight to ten minutes a piece. You come to accept that they're not going to change the entire soundtrack for the American fans and you leave it alone. The problem comes in when the Drama's take up way too much time and some of the other songs are shortened to fit the disc so they won't have to waste cash on a 2 disc. I feel that fans all over would have been more excited to see five more tracks from the Pillows instead of those drama's. The dialogue is probably very good and entertaining but if you don't know Japanese there pointless to you. Great songs like White Ash are limited to only 1:19 and it is so good that you want it to be longer because when your really into it it goes off.
The book that comes with the disc gives you some insight as to what the dialogues are about but they only help a little. The soundtrack is basically missing more Pillows and you can't get enough of them after I think I can and they give you more after it with a hidden track. Their music is very hype here; these guys know their instruments very well. You can't get enough of the style they play and the drummer is very talented. The best songs are the ones with vocals and even though this album is limited in some ways it's a perfect way to start your addiction to The Pillows music.
FLCL great music for bad people.......2006-02-06
Well the FLCL anime series would not be what it is without its soundtrack. The Pillows' music compliments the weird and energizing tone of the series. Its always good to have an open mind when listining to this stuff. This OST is Brilliant
Do you know FLCL? THEN BUY THIS CD!!!!!!!.......2005-09-07
If you thought the anime was great, then check out this soundtrack. The second volume has been released and it is sure hard to find so what are you waiting for!!!!? Hey, I didn't find this at Planet Anime and I know I'm not getting ready to pay 30 dollars+ tax at Robert's Corner Store. I have the third and first volume and they are AMAZING!!! I love Crazy Sunshine and Lsdt Dinosaur. So to all my Aanime fans out there , check out this CD!!!
Fantastic!.......2004-11-20
I really enjoyed this both this CD and the first one. This CD has a very different flow to it than the previous one (mainly due to the [Drama] parts of it). I would suggest this one more if you're a fan of the show, and go with the first one if you're newer to it. The reason that i gave this a five instead of a four, though, is that the music is superb. Mitsumune and the Pillows sound amazing on this disk. A definite buy for fans, and, if you like the genre, for others as well.

These vibrant world melodies accompany the event that shocked the world and changed Mariane Pearl's life forever- the tragic death of her husband, South Asian Bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal, Daniel Pearl, who was researching a story on shoe bomber Richard Reid and never returned.
Starring Academy Award Winner Angelina Jolie (Girl, Interrupted) and Dan Futterman, Oscar-nominated for his screenplay, Capote, A MIGHTY HEART, is directed by Michael Winterbottom (The Road to Guantanamo, Tristram Shandy) and produced by Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner for Plan B Entertainment (Year of the Dog, The Departed). A MIGHTY HEART: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE is the most gripping soundtrack of the year with tracks by world music's top artists.

Amazing Soundtrack...And More!.......2006-11-01
This is the French import version of Wong War Kai's "In The Mood For Love" soundtrack. It contains two discs, the first being the original soundtrack similar to regular Hong Kong/USA release and contains 21 tracks. The second bonus disc (only found on this limited French release) is titled "More music from and inspired by In The Mood For Love". This second bonus disc contains 19 tracks. In total, this edition of the soundtrack has 40 tracks! It is simply amazing. Disc 2 contains the song "In The Mood For Love" by Bryan Ferry--the song that inspired the English title of the film. The bonus disc also has additional Nat King Cole songs in Spanish--a real treat!
Even if you already own the original soundtrack to this film, you will not regret buying this one. The bonus disc is a rare find--a true gem!

Couldn't let myself to go - baby you don't know how much I got believe in you.......2006-07-17
Oh man, I love this soundtrack and I absolutely adore the anime that it came from even more. The show is probably my favorite anime at the moment. Such a simple and cool idea - a show about a group of friends and all the stupid BS they have to go through trying to get a band together. And it was executed so tastefully and sensitively, as this soundtrack is a testament to. All the classics from the show are here (with the conspicuous exception of "Hit in the USA", one of the catchiest tunes from the show). But a bunch of others "Spice of Life", "Follow Me", "Moon on the Water", "I've Got a Feeling" and of course the show-stealing "Slip Out". Who could forget the scene of Koyuki getting up at Greatful Sound by himself with Jewel's acoustic guitar, to be joined later by Saku, Taira, Ryuusuke with an awesome guitar solo and finally Chiba, all while the crowd watched in the pouring rain. This soundtrack is full of great songs on their own, but if you've watched and loved the show as much as I have, this will bring back some great memories of some amazing musical moments. Just brilliant.
WTF no "Hit in the USA"?.......2006-03-27
How are you going to release a soundtrack without the theme song? WTF?
Awesome if you love the Anime!.......2005-09-26
If you love the anime, You'll definately LOVE the soundtrack! Most of the songs in the Anime are on this soundtrack. I wished all of Beck's songs were on it, but can't complain right? There's a few songs from other bands from the anime, including Belle Ame (Eiji's band).
I was also introduced to "I've Got a Feeling" from The Beatles. I've never heard that song before, and it is very catchy!
my favorites:
Moon On the Water
I've Got a Feeling
Follow Me
Spice of Life
Great memory of a great anime.......2005-07-22
I personaly really enjoyed this soundtrack. In the anime BECK, emotion is normaly represented by one of the songs on this track. And threw listening to the soundtrack brings back all the warm or isperational aspects represented in this series. I would recomend this to anyone who is a fan of the manga or anime.
