Few bands of the 1960s retained as much a sense of the roots of rock and roll as did Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their music is rife with country, rockabilly, and R&B influences, a combination that produced several hit singles--most of which are present on this collection. These include "I Heard It through the Grapevine," "Lodi," "Up Around the B ," "Who'll Stop the Rain," and of course "Bad Moon Rising." This is an excellent greatest-hits collection, and a perfect introduction to the music of a band that has been enduringly influential. --Genevieve Williams

My sort of music .......2007-07-12
As Im in my sixties you might think Im to old, but this is my sort of music.I reckon " john fogerty " is a great singer. Just listen to find out. Hope you like it the same as I do.
CCR.......2007-06-28
An excellent greatist hits CD, I used a handful of songs to burn a CD with other related style of music.
great stuff.......2007-06-27
listening to this CD makes you realize how great john fogerty was back in the day. great songs, great sound.
Gets me going in the morning.......2007-06-27
I've been listening to this CD for 2 weeks in my car on the way to work.
Soundtrack of an era.......2007-06-15
This is an excellent compilation of CCR's tunes from the late 60s, early 70s. There's a reason why Credence tunes kept popping up in movies and commercials. It's great music and evocative of the era from which it comes. No need for me to review the individual tunes; anybody with a radio has head most of them. A must-have for any music fan.

- Paul talks about the music of Memory Almost Full
Amazon.com
"Many years from now" must have seemed like an understatement to 16-year-old Paul McCartney, wondering if he'd still be needed or fed at the age of 64. As it turned out, all doubt as to the latter had ceased by his 22nd birthday (though few could have predicted he'd end up washing down those meals with the liquid pride of Seattle). As to the former? Now that McCartney, as of the date of this album's release, has reached that mythic age, his greatest work is 40 years behind him, his solo peak over 30 years gone. Does the world need a new Paul McCartney album? The answer is yes, at least as much as it needs anything else that passes for music these days. With Memory Almost Full, Macca is back. No, it's not Ram or Band on the Run. It might not even be Flowers in the Dirt--in 1989, he had a full band, the support of Linda, and Elvis Costello as a collaborator. Here, he's on his own. Literally: on the majority of the tracks, everything but the strings is multi-instrumentalist Paul. But the surprise is that it's one of his freest, loosest affairs in years, sonically reminiscent of the Tug of War/Pipes of Peace era with nods to Abbey Road in the album-closing medley, McCartney's gravelly tones on "Gratitude," and 2007's version of "Her Majesty," the palate-cleansing "Nod Your Head." It's a surprise because of the album's inescapable sense of retrospection ("Ever Present Past," "Vintage Clothes," "That Was Me") and even a bit of weariness. The next-to-last song is "The End of the End," after all, in which McCartney tells us about what he'd like to happen "on the day that I die." (He wants "songs that were sung/to be hung out like blankets/that lovers have played on/and laid on while listening to songs that were sung," and will likely get his wish.) But it never gets overwhelming, for McCartney mostly resists his tendency to get plodding and maudlin. In fact, Memory Almost Full must be the most sanguine album made during the dissolution of a marriage since...well, ever. "What went out is coming back," he sings in "Vintage Clothes," and from the sound of things, that may not be just wishful thinking. What's past is prologue; if we're lucky, what to come may be McCartney's late renaissance. --Benjamin Lukoff
Album Description
The 13 new songs on Memory Almost Full are performed entirely by Paul McCartney (excluding strings) and produced by Grammy Award-winner David Kahne (The Strokes, Sublime, Bruce Springsteen and more).
This beautifully-packaged, deluxe limited edition also comes with a 2nd disc that contains 3 unreleased bonus tracks and audio commentary by Paul McCartney describing the music, 6 foldout color postcard-sized photos, and full lyrics.

PAUL HAS STILL GOT THE GOODS.......2007-08-06
Long live Paul McCartney, who proves with this new CD that he still has a true genius for melody and catchy music bridges.
Mom's happy.......2007-08-05
Gave this to my mom (huge Beatles/McCartney fan) as a surprise "just because" gift and she loved it. She had heard the single before and said that the entire album was just as good. Haven't heard it myself yet, but she's pretty picky. :)
Better Than "Chaos" but not a great Macca effort.......2007-08-03
The days of excellent McCartney tunes are long past. I love "Junior's Farm" and "Venus and Mars." I think the album "Flowers in the Dirt" was Paul's best effort in the past 20 years. "Memory Almost Full" is full of reminiscence and reflection. Not all of it is interesting or fun to listen to.
Tops in my opinion are "Mr. Bellamy" (an "Uncle Albert" cousin) and the "End of the End" with some great imagery in the lyrics. I also enjoy the guitar work on "House of Wax." "Only Mama Knows" starts quietly with strings and then rocks out. It's good to hear Macca can still rock and roll.
Disappointments include the weak opener "Dance Tonight." Why does Paul insist on playing the mandolin, as he did on his last live tour in tribute to his former bandmate George? "Feet in the Clouds" sounds like a Jeff Lynne production. "See Your Sunshine" is light and inconsequential. On "Vintage Clothes" Paul sings "Check the rack/What was out is coming back." I wish Paul's songwriting prowess of the Beatles' or Wings' era was coming back, but maybe that's not realistic in the twilight of his career. MAF is nothing great and nothing terrible.
McCartney the Magician.......2007-07-29
The best McAbracadabra album for a long, long time.
The worst Paul McCartney artwork ever.
Awesome!.......2007-07-29
I mean, what else can you say about the legendary Sir Paul?! Go get it!!!

At this point, who else but Tony Bennett would have the clout to round up stars on the scale of Elton John, Paul McCartney, Bono, Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand for some duets? (Note also that unlike some similar projects, all the parties involved on this CD were alive when it was recorded!) The material consists of relatively obvious classics in standard big-band arrangements, and Bennett himself is in top form at age 80, so much so that he doesn't need anybody else to handle "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." But the fun comes from checking out how his collaborators fare. The Dixie Chicks provide wonderful Andrews Sisters-type harmonies on the percolating version of "Lullaby of Broadway" that opens the festivities. The best songs tend to be the ones where Bennett's slightly craggy voice is juxtaposed to smooth female ones, like Diana Krall on "The Best Is Yet to Come," familiar accomplice k.d. lang on the sultry "Because of You" and Streisand-perhaps Bennett's only equal in stature at this pointon "Smile." Among the less expected guests, soulman John Legend is a revelation on the hard-swinging "Sing, You Sinners," while George Michael confirms he's quite the crooner on "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?" Elvis Costello, Celine Dion or Juanes don't sound as comfortable, and sometimes it feels as if they overdo it to compensate, but overall this collection is among the best of its kind, with most guests rising to the occasion. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Duets: An American Classic.......2007-08-01
This is a lovely CD with my favorite singer Tony Bennett singing with so many celebrities. He shines through as always with finesse and charm. I am sure it was a great honor to all these celebrities to spend a cherished moment in time singing with one of the greats! I saw the taping of this CD on PBS and it made listening to the CD just that much more special.
Better than it ought to be.......2007-07-24
I bought this cd because I am a shameless hoarder of everything Diana Krall touches, plus I love the Dixie Chicks, and I am a flight attendant who leaves my heart in San Francisco with every take-off. I am not a huge Tony Bennett fan, but I love vocal jazz and the songbook of standards, so I figured how bad could it be? Going in with very moderate expectations, I was pleasantly surprised by this cd. It is fun to listen to because it was obviosuly fun for the artists to make. On almost every track, the mutual admiration and bottomless talent of Bennett and each of his guests allows the artists to relax and play with the music, with eminently listenable results. I have always hated "The Best is Yet To Come" until I heard T.B. and D.K. get together on it. Now it's one of my favorite songs! (as long as I listen to this version...) Sting amazes as a torch singer, and if you have ever doubted Michael Buble's chops, he'll make you believe on "Just in Time." If this is your style of music, you won't be disappointed.
I'm gonna wear this one out.......2007-07-19
What a great disc! Not only wonderful Tony, but some other great singers, as well. I listen to it in my car and then bring it in at home so I can listen some more. I fell in love with Tony Bennett in 1953 - even wrote him love letters. I was 13 and was thrilled when I received a signed glossy 8x10 photo from him. I belonged to his fan club. His "Rags to Riches" was on the radio a lot, and I had a little 45 player in my room to spin his records on. What a thrill to fall in love with him all over again in my old age! This album is a keeper. My favorite is his duet with Stevie Wonder, whose timing and sound are excellent. I wish there was a whole album of them together. Same with Diana Krall. Buy it. You won't be sorry.
Tony Bennett.......2007-07-16
Great duets, enjoyed every song on the CD!! He still continues to amaze me with that silky voice. He's a legend....
It really swings.......2007-07-14
All classics with new voices. I bought it after seeing the special on PBS.

Great Children's CD.......2007-07-12
I grew up listening to these songs on an old record that my parents had. We lost the record and I searched for these songs for my new little baby girl. I am so happy that I found it on Amazon and that my baby girl gets to grow up with the same classics that I did when I was a kid. The CD is wonderful and the price was even better.
Aww the good old times!.......2007-06-18
I grew up with this music!! My dad bought the records when I was little, YES records! Im 25yrs old so this was the late the 80's when he purchased it. Now I have the opportunity to introduce this to my children! I'm so glad they are continuing to sell this music because I loved it as a child. I still remember taking the records out and asking my parents to play it.
Walt Disney CD: Characters Do Not Sing.......2007-06-06
I'm a little disappointed. I purchased this CD thinking The Disney Characters would be singing the songs. My son was all excited when I showed him the CD and asked me to play it. When he heard it he said "this is not Mickey Mouse". He was very sad. The songs on this CD are sung by children. The CD is ok.
Garbage.......2007-05-13
Really very boring and campy - I can't bear to listen and wish I could return it. In fact all of the Disney Lullabuys and children's songs were downright horrible. Stick with Baby Einstein, Rock a Bye Baby and Just for Kids - Curious George is great too
Yeah!.......2007-03-04
Much better than all of those other randon baby CD's where all of the songs sound exactly the same and sound like they are sung by chipmunks!!

Few would dispute that Frank Sinatra was one of the greatest popular singers of the 20th century. His voice had distinct power and majesty, whether he was belting out a swinging dance number or softly crooning a tender ballad. When he was at his height, no one could touch him, and the songs collected on Classic Sinatra showcase the range of his talent. Recorded during his memorable run for Capitol Records in the 1950s, the songs here are more than just his best, they're often the definitive recordings: "I Get a Kick out of You," "Young at Heart," "Witchcraft," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "In the Wee Small Hours," and "I've Got You Under My Skin." Like almost everything Sinatra recorded during this period, there isn't a dud to be found, which makes Classic Sinatra a perfect introduction to the work of this truly great talent. --Robert Burrow

The ultimate lullaby cd.......2007-08-04
I was having a hard time staying up with my daughter when she woke up at 3am. We were using Baby Einstein and classical and I couldn't stay awake. I needed something to sing along to. This was PERFECT. It was mellow enough to use while she was going to sleep, but I could sing along too. With the second baby on the way, we're looking for something different, but along the same lines.
Great Sinatra sound........2007-07-09
This CD has many classic Sinatra songs just as reflected by its name. Great CD for easy listening.
An Ideal Single Disc Collection Of Sinatra's Peak Years........2007-05-03
Though nowhere near as concise as the three disc "The Capitol Years" boxed set, "Classic Sinatra" is a most excellent collection of the most popular tunes from Ol' Blue Eyes' most artistically successful period.
Boasting 20 timeless recordings written by such musical geniuses such as Cole Porter, The Gershwin Brothers, Harold Arlen, Cahn and Van Huesen and Johnny Mercer, "Classic Sinatra" is a hard deal to beat. Every song here is a masterpiece, from the boastful swagger of "I've Got The World On A String" to the bouncy joy of "You Make Me Feel So Young" to the tearjerking ache of "One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)", each track is among the finest recordings in music history.
In addition to all these wonderful songs, the remastering job on this cd is absolutely wonderful, as these songs all sound better than they ever have. Plus you get wonderful packaging and liner notes. Overall, this cd is a great starting course for Frank fans.
Like a 45rpm disc.......2007-03-23
Should have been remastered but at that price I enjoyed crooning to my favorite lyrics.
My introduction into the world of Frank Sinatra........2007-01-23
My dad bought me this CD as a gift years ago. I didn't care for Frank at the time, but as I listened to this CD, I grew to love the music of Frank Sinatra. The time period this CD covers is during his years at Capitol Records, which is still my favorite label that he worked under. This CD is great - a lot of Sinatra classics when the man's voice was at his best. Fresh, chipper, and sharp. This is an excellent CD for someone who is new to Frank. I own the 4-CD disc set from his Capitol years as well, but this is a great little disc all on it's own.

Disney 60 years of musical magic.......2007-08-05
We had just returned from a CA trip that included 2 days at Disneyland. My son wanted the music/songs for all the songs he knew. This has pretty much filled the bill.
...Mighty Satisfacthul..........2007-07-29
I was looking for a recording of the classic 'Zip a dee doo da' and stumbled across this wonderful collection which I purchased new from Amazon Marketplace for half the list price, including shipping. Every song I could think of is included and feature the original performers. Amazon has listed all the songs in their product description. If you love Disney songs, this has lots to love. (I saw 'Song of the South' in the 1970's and was hoping to see it on DVD. I recently learned Disney has locked up this feature and threw the keys away.)
More than '60 Years of Musical Magic,' and no pseudo-versions, either!.......2007-07-25
This is a box set made up of all five volumes released for the 'Classic Disney' series, which started with Volume One in 1995 and concluded with Volume 5 in 1998 or thereabouts. Although the title says '60 Years of Musical Magic,' it's actually more like 68 years: according to the CD booklet for Volume One, 'Minnie's Yoo-hoo' (last track on Volume One) was recorded and published in like 1930. Meanwhile, one of the more recent tracks is 'I'll Make a Man Out of You,' from 'Mulan' in 1998. So instead of just 60 years, we get almost 70 years of music from these discs.
These CDs don't just include the 'in-movie versions' of the songs we all know and love from the movies in which they appeared, but we also get songs from TV shows like 'Davy Crockett' and 'The [OLD] Mickey Mouse Club.' Not to mention selections from theme parks or specified events, such as the 'Main Street Electrical Parade' Medley (Volume 2) made exclusively for Disneyland in 1979, and 'It's a Small World' for the 1963 New York World's Fair (the 1964 version doesn't appear on this set, but it does on 'Disney's Greatest Volume 2').
Also, as a certain customer mentioned about 'Disney's Princess Collection' (Volume 1), you won't find songs from sequels to the original Disney movies on here. And, in response to that kid who compared the in-movie version on 'Circle of Life' from 1994's 'The Lion King' to Elton John's version from the same soundtrack and judged the latter superior to the former, don't even talk to me about 'poppy' or 'meant for radio play' versions of these songs anywhere on the set: THERE AREN'T ANY!!!!
Anyway, I've said enough. If you're a die-hard Disney fan, or want something with which to entertain either yourself, your children (if you have any), or your whole family, buy this. The individual volumes are out of print, so you probably want to save up for this one if buying it. End of discussion.
GREAT ITEM.......2007-06-27
I ORDERED THIS ITEM FOR MY SON WHO LOVES DISNEY MUSIC. IT CAME IN GREAT CONDITION AND QUICKLY. LISTENING TO THE CD,S BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF MY YOUNGER DAYS.
Slow shipping & Minor Damage.......2007-05-14
My kids (2 & 3 yrs.) like the music that they have heard before. There are many songs included that are less popular. If your kids are like mine, you will be hitting the "next" button frequently. I ended up burning a cd of the songs that they liked. This worked out well.
The Shipping was fairly slow. It took about two weeks (10 business days) to arrive through standard mail. This probably wouldn't have been so bad, but most of the other orders that I have placed through Amazon have arrived in 5 business days or less.
The product itself seemed to be damaged during manufacture. All of the CDs were lose in the cases. It appears that they didn't seat properly, and during the seating process the tines in the center of the case that hold the CDs in place were broken. None of the discs were damaged or scratched.

An Original Jazz Piece... .......2006-11-25
This album was the 1st of Lyle Ritz i bought, and i was very pleasantly surprised. In fact any Jazz Lover listening to this Jazz Ukelele would find this CD a real treat for the ears. Tasteful music, very fresh and free, elegantly performed, the spontaneous touch... yet not a flaw; in the hands of Masters at work together there; perfect accompaniments with the flute and drums, from what i can recall at the moment while writing this simple review. The harmonies and sounds in this CD will make you travel somewhere exotic, intriguing and exciting, yet all straightforward, that is for sure. Lyle Ritz is an innovator, by simply using an instrument such as the Ukelele and placing it out of its habitual 'Hawaiian' context, using it daringly, magnificently and very skilfully for Jazz Music. I highly recommend this CD, it is original and different, and if you're into Jazz anyway, it certainly cannot disappoint you!!!
I yet have to find out what else there is available out there from Lyle Ritz, and i'm starting my search as of NOW, hehe... Just found out that his latest CD was released in June 2006. As far as i am concerned this is a sure Buy, so sure thing it is ordered today!!!

You knew a trend was brewing when Concord Records scored a hit by taking newly unearthed vocal tracks from the 1970s by the late Ray Charles and adding newly recorded accompaniment by the orchestra still bearing the late Count Basie's name. Here Concord repeats the formula, doctoring outtakes by the dearly departed Ella Fitzgerald with new backing by the London Philharmonic and/or a contemporary rhythm section. As with Ray Sings, Basie Swings, Love Letters from Ella has undeniable appeal. Recorded in the 1970s, the great singer is in fine, relaxed, late-season form on a collection of ballads including "My Old Flame" and "Cry Me a River" and medium tempo tunes including "Withcraft" and "Our Love is Here to Stay." (There is also a pair of unaltered, previously unreleased performances by Ella and Basie and band and a 1983 track teaming her with Andre Previn.) The new orchestrations by Jorge Calandrelli are tasteful, and the edits are clean. But if you're going to play these archival games, you owe it to listeners to spell out what was done and why in greater track-by-track detail than is done here. Exactly what old accompaniment did the new accompaniment replace? Did a duet with guitarist Joe Pass really need to be "updated" with a rhythm section? When record companies start thinking these things don't matter, jazz is in even bigger trouble than we thought. --Lloyd Sachs

After Warren Zevon's death in 2003, his son Jordan was clearing out a storage space when he found a large stash of demos and home recordings Zevon had made before 1976. Winnowed down from many hours of tape, this selection is so satisfying you're left awaiting another volume almost instantly. Preludes has been generously packaged with a booklet overflowing with reminiscences and insight from peers and family, as well as a bonus disc with recent interview extracts and choice selections from 2000's Life'll Kill Ya. The rough sound quality is more than made up for by the performances. Highlights include a speedier, country-punk garage take on "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" and the original demo of "Werewolves of London," here presented in a slowed-down reggae-ish (and campier) take. Only two of these 16 takes fall flat: the vocals on "Accidentally Like a Martyr" are just too bleak even for Zevon, while the faux-sunshine Eagles-y production on "Ride So High" is interesting but just too anachronistic. The versions of "French Inhaler" and "Carmelita" show Zevon in his angry, post-Dylan singer-songwriter style. It's reminiscent of the best John Cale solo recordings. Poignant, beautiful and bitter, it's no wonder the guy didn't fit in with his California contemporaries. As with Townes Van Zandt, there's something of a great short story in Zevon's songs; confronted with them in all their ragged, stripped-down glory, it's clear what a major talent he was. --Mike McGonigal

Genius: The Best of Warren Zevon |
Album Description
Warren Zevon passed way from mesothelioma, a form of asbestos related lung cancer in 2003. A few months later, his son, Jordan, drove out to one of his dad's storage spaces in the San Fernando Valley to begin the sorting the process. He discovered over a 100 unreleased outtakes and demos in a piano-sized touring case.
Preludes features 16 of the best of these discovered recordings, including 6 unreleased tracks "Empty Hearted Town," "Going All The Way," "Steady Rain," "Stop Rainin Lord" "Studebaker" and "Rosarita Beach Café." All songs were recorded pre-1976. Other gems are previously unheard versions of "Werewolves of London" and "Accidentally Like A Martyr". The 2nd disc features an in-depth radio interview Warren did with Jody Denberg in 2000.
The deluxe 2CD package in a hardbound slipcase contains a 44-page booklet with dozens of family photos, all previously unpublished. Pictures are placed within excerpts from the forthcoming memoir I¹ll Sleep When I¹m Dead: The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon. Released by Ecco/Harper Collins.
Customer Reviews:
A rare, intimate, look at Warren Zevon.......2007-08-03
Preludes includes two disks, one of unreleased and fairly raw recordings--demos and basement tapes--and the second with a smattering of interviews, two tracks from albums and a live version of "Don't let us get sick".
There are 6 previously unreleased songs, and early versions of 10 other songs, often showing how Warren improved the tune before he got around to releasing it. I don't think any of the versions on this album are better than the released versions, but they provide refreshing takes and insights into his musical processes.
This is not an album I'd recommend as your first (or second) Zevon, but it's a fascinating addition to the fan's collection.
Vintage Zevon.......2007-07-20
This is a collection of old tapes and interviews. It is not what I would suggest for someone checking him out for the first time. For the Warren "virgin"(not many around him by the sound of it) I would suggest "Warren Zevon" and "Exciteable Boy".
But for a long term diehard customer like me, then what you do is play Preludes, and read "Sleep When I'm Dead". Then it all makes sense.... or not.
Much of it is demo quality, but good listening. And gives an insight into the man, and how he built his songs.
Ownership is compulsory
peaking through a crack in a closed door.......2007-07-15
The release of this CD is akin to peaking through a crack in a closed door. We are given another opportunity to hear Mr Zevon "reinterpret" songs that were indelibly imprinted into our memories. And though this is not a live album, listening to these songs i feel as if i have stumbled across some of Warren's most memorable and private performances.
A must listen for Zevon diehards.
Perfection.......2007-07-06
I love the unreleased version of Werewolves of London even more than the familiar one. And the interview was somewhat eye-opening as to the personality of Zevon. Essential for any true fan of his work.
Preludes.......2007-07-05
Preludes is excellent - more true genius from Zevon. Three songs, especially, stick in my mind - Heavy Rain, Empty Hearted Town and Rosarita Beach Cafe. How wonderful to be able to hear new Zevon even after he has left us.
