From the Artist
In 2002 my Sound Healing students requested I create a composition that would harmonize with Ohm based Tuning Forks. This is where the idea began for the composition, There's No Place Like Ohm, first released in 2003. In this recording I explored the concept of creating an entire musical composition in the key of Ohm (Om), a healing earth tone. Both Volumes of this work were created during my healing journey from cancer, and were especially rich experiences for me as I turned to nature and sounds of the earth for personal healing. -Marjorie de Muynck
Product Description
Sound Healer and Composer Marjorie de Muynck first envisioned a piece of music in the healing key of Ohm in 2002 and formed the ambient musical collective Analemma. As a Sound Healing Instructor, students asked Marjorie to create a CD they could play during treatments that would harmonize with Ohm Tuning Forks. There's No Place Like Ohm, a pioneering work in the musical and earth based key of Ohm, was released in 2003. There's No Place Like Ohm Vol. 2 can be described as a spiritual symphony, a nature operetta that tells a story with a beginning, middle and end. The hypnotic Ohm drone is the transporting vehicle. Because the Ohm tone is of the earth, it is intrinsically soothing and centering. Ohm is a vibration; it is inaudibly present in all of nature, alive in the wind and in the voices of the plant and animal world. The presence of the Ohm drone is supportive in the sense that it is simultaneously grounding and freeing as it carries you on this transformational Sound Journey.
In the literal heart of this Sound Journey, you will experience the watery, rhythmic expression of the Blue Whale and the high frequency sounding of the Orca. Birds from North America and Africa contribute their song, familiar, exotic, and haunting. And finally, crickets summon a feeling of expansiveness, when dusk arrives and day transitions to night. Percussion instruments were intentionally not used in this composition which aims instead to feature the rhythms and pulses of the natural world. Wind instruments made of wood were chosen because of their unique ability to evoke nature; the clarinet and Native American flute for their ability to mimic bird songs and their flight, the didgeridoo for its serpentine and earthy rhythm and tone, and the Middle Eastern oud for its ability to conjure up images of landscape, sand and sun. The African kora is a gourd, a string instrument, and when played, gorgeously summons the feeling of sunlight and rain, while the warm and restful tone of the harmonica and drone interweave creating a resonance with the world of winged creatures.
