This new version of the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack coincides with the movie's 30th anniversary (which is also celebrated by a special edition DVD). The CD is notable for several instrumental tracks by John Williams, as well as for "Any Day Now," a previously unreleased song performed by Perchik/Paul Michael Glaser (better known for his starring role in TV's Starsky and Hutch). The soundtrack is often compared unfavorably with the original 1964 cast album, in which Zero Mostel played the part of Tevye (here performed by Topol, who had been in the 1967 London production). But this CD has a lot going for it, including glossy remastering and, of course, Isaac Stern as the fiddler. In the end, whatever version you decide to pick up, Fiddler remains one of the most enduring musicals of all time. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I have other versions of CDs of "The Fiddler of the Roof" but Topol is the best and this is one of the best CDs with Topol. As far as "The Fiddler On the Roof" goes, that is a thumbs up 5 star anytime story and songs.

At first, I thought this musical was weird but then I grew to like it. It has a sad ending but the thems in the movie are really interesting. Life really is like being a fiddler on the roof. In a musical coming up at my school, I am playign the part of Grandmother Tzeitel in Tevye's dream. I am excited to play the part and I think our musical will go very well!

The music from Fiddler on the Roof is exciting, fun, interesting and funny! This CD is mixed with humor, music from different cultures and a wide mix of different songs. Each song is so different that I can listen to it for hours. I was surprised how enjoyable and pleasent it really is. Although...it is easy to get this music stuck in your head!

Just saw him at Freedomfest concert!!!!!!!!!.......2006-09-05

Wow! This guy came up on stage and I was prepared for an 'okay' singer. Wasn't very familiar with his music, had heard one song, his Surfah Girl song on the radio. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by his voice, music, and stage presence. He knows how to put you at ease, so you just want to raise your hand up and not miss a second of his smooth voice. He has funny lyrics too, he even sang a song about his flip flops! He has a heart for God, there is no doubt. Loved this guy and I am buying all of his cds. If you get a chance to see him in concert, don't miss it!!

I saw him first in concert at Young Life camp called Wildhorse Canyon and i just loved him. This CD is SICK. nuff said. Highly recommendable.

I was, perhaps, slightly dissapointed in this CD. Although it's really not bad. I had heard that he was a little like Mat Kearney. Well, he's not as artistic. He's somewhat lacking in the lyrics department. But he's still got some fairly good stuff like, "Spirit Move" "Walking on Water" and a few others. I kind of think he needs to do his "folk hop" or "folk rap" a little differently. He's definitely not a rapper. But I think he could improve.
I will say this...this man has a heart for God. Praise God that we have talented singers like Paul Wright in this world.

Great voice, great songs, great arrangement/production - Great Music. I won't waste words describing what has to be experienced. There are maybe 3-4 artists whose music really grabs my heart and not just my interest - add Paul Wright to that list. My ears love it - my "guts" love it - and my heart loves this man's music. Go see him play and buy his T-shirts!

Paul delivers again........2005-08-17

I was skeptical about the second release by Paul Wright, but I purchased it and I am very pleased. Paul has a different sound from his earlier album and from some of the acts nowdays. There is a blend of hip hop with acoustic melodies. The lyrics are uplifting and spiritual.

My favorite tracks is Heaven and Take This Life, which are awesome songs, just as the rest of them. If you are a fan of Tobymac and Mat Kearney, I recommend this.

This music is to die for! I love to hear these songs and to be able to sing with the music. This CD is definitely a miricle of miracles!

I think just be looking at the cover, you can tell how rough this looks. Topal's poytrayal as Tevia dosn't help it. This is a very dark, quit version of Fiddler and the bonus tracks will scare the ever living flesh out of your kids. The early sketch for the dream was very very upsetting. Now I can't go to sleep at night because of this recording. Everything after the dream is just dissapointing and I don't blame the muscial because that is good but this is bad. The bonus tracks are just tracks you'd hear at a Halloween party. Not on an Original London cast recording. Seriously, the tracks at the end are very very scary. Do not buy.

I reccomend the American recordings. [The original Broadway and the New Broadway cast recordings].

Now I Have Everything..........2004-10-10

What is it about Fiddler on the Roof that makes it such an enduring and breathtaking masterpiece? Is it the charming and very unusual plot line coupled with the delightful music and the moving lyrics, or is it something more?...What FOTR really is is a character musical; every archetypical jewish and Russian figure is embodied in this piece. It is impossible not to love and laugh over delightful figures like Tevye, Golde, Yente, Motel...i could go on and on. It is this endearing quality that has made FOTR the timeless classic that it is...other musicals are breathtaking or touching or hilarious...this musical is all of those things and much more. While I would not go as far as to say that it is my favorite musical, I cannot deny it the credit it undoubtedly deserves. For those who have never seen it performed,I heartily reccomend the excellent film, for those who have and who want to bring the music into their homes, this is the recording for you. By all means buy the broadway recording as well but do not overlook this one which is in my opinion infinetly superior. Zero Mostel was certainly an extremely talented performer, (A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum testifies to the fact) but he does not have that utterly perfect Israeli/Yiddish flair which Topol brings to the role. Also, the extracts that i have heard from the broadway recording are slow; they do not capture the intensity of the piece as well as this one does, and several members of the cast simply cannot do justice to the songs in the way that the London cast members can. Topol's If I Were A Rich Man and his duet with Lazar Wolf(Paul Whitsun-Jones) To Life! cannot be beaten and the full company songs (Tradition, Tevye's Dream, Sunrise, Sunset amd Anatevka) are equally brilliant. The younger cast members occasionally have trouble with their songs but they still provide sweeter more vibrant moments to those on the Broadway recoding. Miracle of Miracles and Far from the Home I love are especially good. Even if i have not been able to convince you that this CD is your best option, buy one recording of the score at least; I am certain that you will not regret it.

Soothing.......2003-04-05

I find this CD really soothes my road rage in the car and makes me feel that nothing bothers me. Overall, the tracks may sound similar if you are paying attention to your driving, but that's not a bad thing when they're all good. But when I bring it inside and pay attention, I find the subtleties to be enjoyable and charming. Avinu Malkeinu is my favorite, bringing tears to my eyes the first time I heard this version.

This CD was a recommendation to me by friends, and now I am making the same recommendation to others.

This music arranged by Rachel Van Voorhees is simply beautiful and relaxing. There are 35 separate pieces, varied and lovely. There are some klezmer-origin type songs, yet they are lively but soft, and blend well with the rest of the CD. The sound quality is excellent.

Though I haven't been raised with Jewish music and therefore don't know whether the meanings of some of the songs would be appropriate for various formal events (like weddings), I can say that out of the 35 songs, there are surely some that would be suitable regardless of whether the event is a wedding, a nice Shabbat dinner, meditation, or simply relaxation as you're falling asleep.

This CD by master harpist Rachel Van Voorhees has over 25 tracks of wonderful Jewish music. You'll find favorites such as Zum Gali Gali, Dreydl, Erev Shel Shoshannim, Hatikvah, Kvare Achare Chatzot (my personal favorite) and many, many other selections. Van Voorhees exhibits a wide array of tone colors, tempos, and styles in the music, which she arranged herself. This CD would make a perfect gift, and would serve well as background music to any party, Shabbat dinner, or simply as a relaxer! I highly recommend Rachel Van Voorhees' Jewish Favorites.

I'm a HUGE Mantovani fan and have had mixed results trying to upgrade my collection to CDs. This collection is the original orchestra arrangements of all the classics. This is the one to buy.

The Mantovanti Orchestra shows off their "marvelous versatility" in this "wonderful" collection of "8 CDs", with titles that tell you "just what to expect", such as: "The Love Songs", "Memorable Classics", "Itallian Favorites", "On Broadway", etc. You can set the MOOD for practically ANY occassion! There are even some "popular" selections that we all know and treasure like: "Moon River", "Over the Rainbow" and "Autum Leaves"!
You will NOT want to remove these GREAT CDs from your CD Player, once you have listened to them! They make "nice" background music for small get-togethers or "lovely" background music for those "ROMANTIC DINNERS", for you and your "SPECIAL SOMEONE"!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SET!!! It is a GREAT DEAL for the money, even at the full price!!!
