About the Artist
Jim Gibson is one of Atlanta's busiest commercial pianists, and has recorded eleven CDs for Hickory Cove Music.
Jim's background is varied, but has always revolved around music. His mother was a piano teacher, and he came to the piano at a very early age. Even as a child, people remarked on his "unusual touch."
Though he studied music into college, his college degrees are in English, and he taught high-school English for several years.
However, he was playing more and more piano jobs, and soon left teaching to play full-time.
He started in Atlanta as a jazz pianist, gradually moved to more commercial playing, and has worked alone and with bands of all sizes, playing literally thousands of jobs for top social and corporate clients throughout the Southeast.
He has also played extended engagements in Florence, Italy, and at jazz clubs in Paris.
However, his recordings for Hickory Cove Music show a different side of his musical interests--these are quiet and melodic, and show a masterful blend of styles that only comes from years spent behind the keyboard.
"When I was younger," Jim says, "I measured musical success by how many notes I played. Now, I measure it by how few will do the job."
Jim is married, and lives in Atlanta with his wife, two dogs, and many keyboards. He has two children.
