Tab Benoit's album titles leave little doubt as to where he's from or the music he plays. Brother to the Blues, Fever for the Bayou, Wetlands, and now Power of the Pontchartrain exude the sweaty Louisiana swamp, blues, and R&B inherent in their names. But that only tells part of the story--the rest is in the grooves where Benoit's distinctive, grainy voice and tough Telecaster leads bring soul, grit, and intensity to a sound already infused with an earthy sensibility. There's more of the same on this disc, but that's no criticism. Benoit generally sticks with others' songs here, yet he unearths hidden gems. Julie Miller's "Midnight and Lonesome" is dragged into the murky swamps as a driving ballad with eerie qualities that live up to its name. Miller and husband Buddy are also credited with the righteous-yet-rugged gospel of "Shelter Me." "Somebody's Got to Go," originally by Lonnie Johnson, gets a crisp, frisky makeover, and even Buffalo Springfield's crusty "For What It's Worth" takes a swim in the muddy waters of Benoit's home state, with a little help of some altered, post-Katrina lyrics. The guitarist lets his Cajun influences fly on the bouncy rhythms of "Sac-Au-Lait Fishing," the album's only original, and shifts into pleading Otis Redding mode for the aching blues ballad "I'm Guilty of Lovin' You." The Chicago-by-way-of-the-Delta shuffle of "One Foot in the Bayou" is also an apt description of Benoit's approach. He touches on a variety of Americana styles, yet always keeps part of himself planted firmly in the wetlands of his roots. --Hal Horowitz

This one is a must have!!.......2007-07-26
Once again Tab Benoit has outdone himself! His artistry shines on this album like never before! Gritty, haunting blues in Midnight And Lonesome, High steppin, foot tappin sounds in Sac Au Lait Fishing, and heartfelt pain in I'm Guilty of Lovin You. I have been a diehard fan of Tab Benoit for many years and must say this is one of his best efforts yet. I can hardly wait to see him live on stage again!
As always...........2007-07-22
Every time you buy a Tab Benoit's CD you can be sure that you will not be disappointed. And, as always, the brand new "Power of the Pontchartrain" confirms that rule. Excellent material played extremely well by Tab and the accompanying band. This time the "Louisiana's Leroux" are the supporting band and this is not irrelevant to the great final result. In fact the band spent several years, as explained in the linear notes, with one of the greatest Louisiana blues player of all time Mr. Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. The album is really very good and I would take the risk to say that from my point of view this is Tab's best effort so far. Tab's voice sounds great as always and the guitar playing is absolutely fantastic throughout the entire CD. The excellent and clean production and sound of Telarc Blues deserve a mention too. All the eleven songs in the menu are very strong and you will not be tempted to use the skip bottom of your CD player at any time, however I believe that a special mention is deserved by the great cover of the Stephen Stills' classic "For what it's worth", by the deep blues "Midnight and lonesome" that for me is the best cut of the bunch, and by the two mid tempo "Somebody got to go" and "Addicted". Very highly recommended for all the blues lovers.
Knock out!!.......2007-07-16
Popped this into my CD player in the car the minute I got it and 5 minutes later was actually saying "Holy Smokes!!" outloud. Like all his music this CD is a knock your socks off collection of music. We saw him in person this summer and he is fabulous. Got called back for 2 encores and the crowd was screaming for more. He's the greatest guitar player I've heard since Stevie Ray Vaughn and he sings too!!
Just The Best Blues Guitar Around.......2007-07-15
Folks, if you haven't had the opportunity to hear and/or see Tab Benoit, then you're missing one of the greatest blues guitarist's in today's world. This man has IT! His music is as infectious as his love for the bayous of Louisiana and the blues greats he has played with and learned from. Treat yourself to some great music when you sit back and crank it up listening to Tab sing and just wear out that Fender of his that's shown on the allbum cover. Enjoy!!
Tab Never Disappoints.......2007-07-02
I never worry when I buy a Tab Benoit CD because his material is consistently good and his style doesn't change much over time. He is a superb rhythm guitarist and songwriter and a great live performer. His Louisiana style of blues is on display again with Power of the Pontchartrain. Besides the title cut, my favorite tune is Sac-Au-Lait Fishing, which makes you want to get up and dance. I also like One Foot in the Bayou. All in all, a great CD if you like a New Orleans style blues band.

Houma homeboy Tab Benoit may have snuck up on some blues fans, but his status as the best and brightest of modern Louisiana bluesmen is now too obvious for any to ignore. His swamp-saturated sound and incisive Telecaster attack, also heard on the Whiskey Store and Whiskey Store Live dueling-guitar albums with Jimmy Thackery, easily personalizes classics, such as Elmore James's "I Can't Hold Out," featured here with saxist Jimmy Carpenter. But Benoit's at his best with the bayou beat. As on 2003's The Sea Saint Sessions, Benoit spotlights the musical heritage of New Orleans by using two guest vocalists who are Crescent City icons: Mardi Gras Indian "Big Chief" Monk Boudreaux and dynastic percussionist/vocalist/composer Cyrille Neville. Boudreaux vocally parades through "Golden Crown" at a fittingly funky Mardi Gras tempo, while Neville provides two songs: the percussion-embellished "Little Girl Blues" and the history lesson "The Blues Is Here to Stay," on which he vocally duets with Benoit between some of the album's best guitar work.
Buddy Guy's "I Smell a Rat" is the album's longest track as Benoit, beginning with a tasty intro, takes his most extended guitar workout, conjuring up a late-night blues club feel in the process. Benoit also contributes three originals, including the zydeco-tinged title track, an anthem of Cajun pride that serves him well as a signature song. Also his is the swamp stomper "Night Train," the album opener. At the other end is a surprise finale, a sublime front-porch, finger-picking acoustic rendition of "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It". --Michael Point

Guitarist Tab Benoit's newest presents a lively aray of cajun flavored sounds -- from straight ahead blues to Zydeco. In the wake of the Katrina disaster it will contribute to our resolve that the spirit and sounds of New Orleans and the Bayou will be seen and heard again. Laissons les Bons Temps Roulez!

Bayou Country is the CCR record that slips under the radar. The group's 1969 sophomore release birthed two classic-rock staples--"Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary." Then there's the characteristically savvy cover ("Good Golly Miss Molly"), the stretch-out jams ("Graveyard Train" and "Keep on Chooglin"), and a couple of seldom-remarked-upon album tracks ("Bootleg" and "Penthouse Pauper"). And that's it--a little more than a half-hour of the Revival gaining speed but still not firing on all cylinders. For a lesser band, it'd be an impressive achievement; for Creedence, Bayou Country is a mere stepping stone to greater heights. --Steven Stolder
Album Description
24 bit digitally remastered reissue of their 1969 album. Seven tracks, including 'Born On The Bayou' & 'Proud Mary'. Also features the original cover art. Digipak.

CCR's Best.......2007-04-20
Even though "Proud Mary" might be CCR's staple, "Bayou Country" contains some of CCR's best work, along with the other tracks on this album that are not in Classic Rock Radios regular rotation. "Bootleg" and "Graveyard Train" and "Keep on Chooglin" are three of my favorite CCR songs, and the others are are excellent themselves. Shame on you if you dont have this masterpiece in your collection. If you interested in becoming more familar with CCR's work, forget "Chronicles" Start here!
Uneven - pick up Cosmo's Factory or Green River instead........2006-11-04
Okay, this record at least gets off to a great start: the rockin' slice of self-mythology Born on the Bayou and the underrated Bootleg. Then it takes a complete u-turn, with the murky, meandering, uninteresting jam Graveyard Train. And it remains in that u-turn, first on a dull cover of Little Richard's Good Golly, Miss Molly, then with the equally forgettable Penthouse Pauper. Proud Mary (most certainly the best thing on this disc) comes along and saves the day, but it's only temporary - things close with an even less interesting jam, Keep on Chooglin'. At least Graveyard Train has interesting lyrics...
But there are some upsides. The aforementioned Proud Mary cooks, a merger of soul, gospel, rock and country. And who could forget the "World, keep on turnin'/Proud Mary keep on burnin'/Rollin', rollin', rollin' down the river" refrain? Not me, that's for sure. Born on the Bayou is another one of the centerpiece tracks and most certainly their best song not to be released as a single. And Bootleg is their best album track, a lost little gem that's actually worth buying the album for. It's uneven, but the three good tracks make it worth a look.
When I was just a little boy ..........2006-08-24
When I was just a little boy ... I smashed a bookcase with a broomstick playing "Born On The Bayou" on the air guitar. And still, 35 years later, I still get very excited when hearing the intro of that song. "Born On The Bayou" is by far the best song on this album (much better than "Proud Mary" for instance), any album with this song on it deserves 5 stars. "Bootleg", "Graveyard Train" and "Keep On Chooglin'" are too long and a bit boring, the other songs are of solid Creedence Quality.

What's best about Best of the Bayou Blues is Tab Benoit's spankin' electric guitar tones and lean 'n' nasty licks on numbers like the ode to Cajun living "Voodoo on the Bayou" and the stinging, vibrato-drenched epic "These Blues are All Mine." This collection of Louisiana-themed tunes plucked from Benoit's five early Vanguard albums relate to the singer-and-six-stringer's swampland raising. They also showcase his versatility--veering from his customary plugged-in blues framework to a gentle acoustic take on the Delta classic "Mother Earth" to a roaring zydeco romp through Clifton Chenier's dancehall anthem "Hot Tamale Baby." Willie Nelson guests on "Rainy Day Blues," trading vocals and blending his nylon-string guitar with Benoit's Telecaster. A brisk jaunt through Hank Williams's "Jambalaya" seems more lagniappe than main course, but when Benoit's guitar comes crying into the soulful, homesick "Nice and Warm"--which plays out like a page written in this road warrior's diary on an especially lonely night--he more than compensates for the few slights among these 15 tunes. --Ted Drozdowski

Tab's Blues.......2006-11-13
This maybe the perfect bayou blues CD and Tab Benoit delivers all these songs with finesse and energy. There are classic tracks - Drowin' on Dry Land, Jambalaya, Rainy Day Blues and Hot Tamale Baby. His self-penned titles all have classic blues appeal - all tracks are great. I love Nice and Warm; Gone too long; Crawfishin'; These blues are all mine. This CD is pretty much a best of and every track is guaranteed to raise your pulse. This guy is so good I just wished I lived in the US, so I could see him live. I also have his Fever for the Bayou CD, and I sense that Tab Benoit has a great sound - The Blues are here to stay. Tab Benoit has a great voice and he sure knows how to play a well worn guitar. Love the blues and you will love this CD.
Bayou Allsorts........2006-11-13
This album highlights Tab at his best and includes a great selection of sounds from his previous albums. Some new songs and some old and traditional make it a spicy mix to suit the blues ear. No matter which type of blues genre you are into this can't fail to please.

Beausoleil may have originated as Cajun purists, but Cajun music itself has always been a rich, creolized mixture combining Southern country and folk music with traditional songs from France's Brittany region. Revealing the band's own increasingly wide-ranging stylistic borrowings over the course of the 15-year period it encompasses, Bayou Deluxe includes everything from raving remakes of some early material ("Le Jig Français") to a mazurka from the Seychelles ("Chez Seychelles") to a French duet with Richard Thompson ("Sur le Pont de Lyon"). It also includes plenty of the incandescent two-steps and waltzes, as well as a heartbreaking ballad or two. --Richard Gehr
Customer Reviews:
excellent Cajun group.......2007-03-08
Excellent intro to cajun songs or a good addition to a mardi-gras party . They have lively and upbeat music with one of my favorite:"travailler c'est trop dur".
Good listening music.......2007-01-03
I bought this for a Cajun dinner party. It provided a good background of Cajun music with some variety without being "over the top". I have since listened to it as part of a mix of music via random selection on my CD player and have enjoyed it that way as well.
My First "True" Cajun CD.......2006-03-22
I listened to, and subsequently purchased this recording after reading another Amazon reviewer's review of a contemporary Zydeco CD. The reviewer said that he/she liked the Zydeco recording, but ordinarily preferred traditional Cajun music, such as that of Michael Doucet. This is great--wonderful upbeat tunes with great vocals. It's fun to try to decipher the lyrics, and it reminds me of learning to read Shakespeare for the first time. Once you get used to it, it's fairly easy. If you're a fan of the various Zydeco groups and haven't yet discovered Doucet, check it out.
An Excellent CD To Introduce People To Beausoleil.......2005-11-23
Beausoleil has cranked out many albums over their existence. This particular album encompasses a fifteen year period in which we see them grow from traditional rebels to modern masters of mixing genres. You'll hear a little bit of everything on this disc. From heavy French and Caribbean influence to good time rock, Beausoleil ties it all together nicely with the fiddle play of Michael Doucet. I've personally dubbed his style "lazy fiddle," and I have no intentions of that sounding derogatory. I love to listen to Doucet bend and peel notes off of his fiddle.
Some of my favorite tunes on this album are "Le Jig Francais," "Travallier, C'est Trop Dur," and "Je M'Endors." Everything else here is also very wonderful.
This band is one of the best modern Cajun groups around, but don't expect them to stick to the standards. They often tear off into uncharted territory with their music, and for that, I have to commend them. They've managed to keep an artform alive that seems to fade quicker as the years go by. Luckily, they have managed to introduce the younger folks to the roots of our culture and have cultivated quite the interest in these older masters such as Dennis McGee and the Balfa Brothers.
Introduce Cajun music to your friends via this album, but be sure to back it up with the aforementioned legends and greats such as Nathan Abshire and Joe Falcon and throw in some of the younger acts such as the Lost Bayou Ramblers and Kevin Naquin and the Ossun Playboys. It won't hurt to put in a little Creole flavor with Amede Ardoin and Canray Fontenot, either.
Highly recommended.
Ex took CD, this is my second.......2002-04-19
Ever since I saw Belizaire the Cajun and fell in love with Armand Assante, I have been in love with Beausoleil/Michael Ducet. The Music is wonderfully Cajun and my favoriet songs from other soundtracks are on this CD. When I lost it to my ex I knew I was going to have to get another because of all the wonderful music. I never thought I would fall in love with a style of music like Cajun, but Doucet is the best by far. True Cajun stylings and the French Canadien lyrics make this CD the best of all the Beausoleil compilation CDs. I have others....I probably will own more. A must buy for someone looking to dip their musical ears into something as unique as Cajun.

Amazon.com's Best of 1998
Opting for simplicity this time around, B.B. King gets by with a little help from his excellent backing band, producing an album that's evocative of the Louisiana countryside where it was recorded. After over half a century in the business, King knows what he's about: he makes playing good blues sound easy, and every track on Blues on the Bayou is a treat. --Genevieve Williams
Amazon.com essential recording
There's an undeniable pleasure in listening to a veteran bluesman do his stuff. For Blues on the Bayou, which he also produced, B.B. King presents a stripped-down, simply-arranged recording that's as tight as a coiled spring and smooth as a freshly-polished dance floor. From the first track, "Blues Boys Tune," a slow instrumental dripping with organ riffs, this CD is chock-full of the sort of guitar work that a master like King makes sound effortless. Whether it's the mid-tempo playfulness of "Bad Case of Love," or the slow "Blues Man" with its sparkling-clean guitar work, or the wistfulness of "Darlin' What Happened," or the sheer sweetness of "If I Lost You," Blues on the Bayou proves why King is considered the reigning master of blues guitar. Even the violins sound right and proper here, and King's sidemen turn in some impressive work as well; there are in particular some great piano solos on this disc. On the whole, Blues on the Bayou is a slow-burning treat. --Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
Not enough O's in SMOOOOOOOOTH...........2007-06-11
I've always liked B.B. King's music ever since I was a kid when I'd catch him on TV periodically. He just seemed genuine in his playing and the style and sound was something that appealed to me personally. So I started to collect some of his music in the late 70's after I got out of college.
Then I had the privilege of seeing him perform "live" twice in the mid 90's while I lived in Spokane, WA. His love of the music and his joy in bringing it to you was palpable. The thrill was definitely not gone for Riley B. King.
So I started to revisit his catalog and I came across Blues On The Bayou. The reviews were sterling across the board, but what attracted me to this particular disc out of all 15 or so that I have was that he used his ROAD BAND in the studio. For many artists, this is not standard practice. They use producer chosen studio folks for their recording sessions. This is one reason that mainstream music coming out of Nashville has that "sameness" to it - it's all the same guys playing in different configurations behind a variety of artists. The music might as well come off the end of a conveyor belt coming out of a factory for all the originality it displays.
Well, not in this case. First thing they did here was use a little recording studio somewhat off the beaten track. This is good strategy because it eliminates the distractions over the course of the days given over to recording. There's just pretty much you and the music and so you can get deeper into it as you attempt to find the best sounds in recording it. In the case of this disc, it paid off in spades.
The choice of songs fits the title and the musicianship is top notch across the board. If you like lively, smooth sounding blues, you can't go wrong here. Sample the various tunes and I dare you to tell me I'm wrong....
RICK SHAQ GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "BB, BASIC BLUES, ON THE BAYOU!".......2007-01-27
To quote BB himself: "All live, all real. No overdubs, no high-tech tricks. JUST THE BASIC BLUES!" Shaq, "The King Of The World Blues Reviewer" says: "This is what I call mellow blues." This is the kind of music you want on, when you want to relax. A rainy day in winter, open the curtains, put this CD on, sit back, and let BB gently, serenade you. There's no better way to end this review, than to quote the other "King" (BB) himself: "In case you're interested, my favorite is "I'll Survive," a song I wrote back in the fifties. I sang it then, but I'm not sure I understood it .Now I know the meaning of survival."
BB is great as always.....but please drop the organ!.......2006-08-19
I bought this CD as part of a music club because it was one of the free ones I received after I bought a certain number, thinking this would not be the best of BB King's career surely ended long ago. I could not have been more wrong with that assumption.
I have many BB King albums, and several on this CD I would rank as being up there with my all time favorite hits from the King, most notably, "Blues Man". If one song could sum up the life of BB King, it is this song. My one complaint with a few of the songs on this album is the organ....in my opinion it is completely out of place for several of the tracks (we are talking about the blues here, right?), but overall it does not take away that much from a really good late-career album.
At a time when many artists are putting out rehashes of old songs or teaming up with other singers for a half-hearted attempt at a new album, BB takes a chance with an entirely new album late in his career and does a really good job of it. It is obvious BB loves what he is doing, and his band, as always, is fantastic. This may not be his best album, but if you are a fan of BB King you will find it surprisingly enjoyable.
4 stars....one deduction for the organ.
Blues on the Bayou.......2006-07-17
B.B. King is an outstanding performer. The CD selections are first-rate.
Wow, this is awesome!.......2005-10-26
In my opinion, this CD contains BB King's finest work. It is a great compilation of smooth blues from beginning to end and truly reflects the intended ambiance of a casual Louisianna setting without modern day recording magic. Simply a talented team of accomplished musicians with BB King singing some pure down home blues. I highly recommend this CD and consider it a must have for any serious blues fan!

The Neville Brothers, as a working unit, emerged as a result of 1976's magnificent Wild Tchoupitoulas project. On that album, the Brothers and their Meters cohorts backed a group of tribal chiefs (including their uncle "Big Chief Jolly") singing traditional Mardi Gras "war songs" and marches. The Nevilles' 1978 debut left behind their New Orleans foundation and suffered because of it. However, 1981's Fiyo represents the pinnacle of the Neville collective, a percolating mix of R&B, soul, funk, and Caribbean rhythms that celebrates their Crescent City heritage. The standards, of course, are entrusted to Aaron's heavenly pipes, but it's the New Orleans anthems that would come to define both the band and the city. --Marc Greilsamer
Customer Reviews:
One good song.......2006-11-10
Only one song on this CD is good -- and it's very good! Iko is a favorite to anyone with a dance feever!
only 25 mins or so of music!.......2006-02-08
there are only 8 songs, mildy mediocre ones at best, the total run time is around 25 minutes...on that basis alone it is not worth the 6 bucks.
Has This Album Really Been Forgotten?.......2006-01-28
I bought this album years ago, I believe at the beginning of the '90's when it had been touted as one of the best albums of the previous decade. To look now and see it selling for $6 with only two amazon reviews is a little disconcerting. I can't imagine that the New Orleans R&B/Funk sound has ever been captured more perfectly in a studio environment. Four of these songs (Hey Pocky Way, Sweet Honey Dripper, Fire on the Bayou and Brother John/Iko Iko) are among the most rollicking and intense performances I've ever heard on record. Run Joe is an infectious midtempo rocker and the cover of Jimmy Cliff's ballad Sitting in Limbo is beautiful.
But wait, aren't there 8 tracks on the album? Unfortunately, yes. Aaron's two syrupy ballad covers are atrocious. Regardless of whether you like the songs in and of themselves (I don't), there can be no doubt that they destroy the momentum and pacing of what could have been a perfect album. In the CD era, I couldn't lunge for my remote fast enough to forward through those tracks. But in the iPod era, no problem: slice 'em, dice 'em and leave them on the cutting room floor. For this price, who cares if you're left w/ less than 30 minutes of music? Edited down, this can't be beat.
Buy it and do other potential buyers a service by not letting this go out of print.
Totally Funkalicious.......2004-02-26
This CD was only available as an import for the longest time. I paid three times amazon's current price, and I definitely got my money's worth, many times over.
This marks one of the first performances of Whitney Houston as a background singer. My, what could've been...
Maybe the Best Ever!.......1998-07-07
If I were marooned on a desert island with only this disc, a CD player (eternally powered, somehow), and lots of rum (an eternal supply, somehow) to drink out of coconuts, I'd the happiest man alive. Just the Mardi Gras Indian anthem "Brother John" (mixed here with the classic "Iko Iko") is well worth the price of the disc. The first time I heard it, every hair on my body stood at attention. It's de funk, it's de Caribbean, it's de celestial harmonies of brother Aaron at the high end, brothers Art and Cyril at the low; it's New Orleans at its carnival best, and it just don't get better than that.

Bayou Country is the CCR record that slips under the radar. The group's 1969 sophomore release birthed two classic-rock staples--"Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary." Then there's the characteristically savvy cover ("Good Golly Miss Molly"), the stretch-out jams ("Graveyard Train" and "Keep on Chooglin'"), and a couple of seldom remarked-upon album tracks ("Bootleg" and "Penthouse Pauper"). And that's it--a little more than a half-hour of the Revival gaining speed but still not firing on all cylinders. For a lesser band, it'd be an impressive achievement; for Creedence, Bayou Country is a mere steppingstone to greater heights. --Steven Stolder

I grew up listening to the great sounds of CCR, collected all their singles and albums and am very pleased to see that some of their music is being put onto cd in such a great way. Sound and quality is first class.
Bayou Country, the Definition of CCR.......2002-07-31
Creedence Clearwater Revival's second album, 1969's "Bayou Country" is by far the group's defining set. CCR's folklore world of bayous, hoodoos, and down home rock n' roll is brought to life with an amazing and inspiring power. The opening classic, 'Born on the Bayou' may be the band's defining track, narrating the view of a bayou-man, with Fogerty's vocals expressing senses of anger and scorn ("...son, don't let the man get ya, do what he done to me..."), but also adding the joys of the world Creedence created. At least three more songs here, 'Graveyard Train,' 'Bootleg,' and 'Penthouse Pauper' (the latter an unsung gem in CCR's repetoire) add to the tales and moods of "Bayou Country" with perfection. 'Keep on Chooglin' is a fast paced heart pumper, while 'Proud Mary' is the ultimate staple of rock, and let the critics know that CCR were destined to be rock and roll heroes. And of course, the standard cover song 'Good Golly Miss Molly' is well served. This re-issue comes with clear remastering. "Bayou Country" is indeed the definition of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
'My papa said "Son, don't let the man getcha,"..........2001-10-22
Nobody paid much attention to Bayou Country when it first came out in 1968...everyone was too enthralled with CCR's single release, Proud Mary. Somehow, one way or another, the album filtered into the top 40 dances and parties. If you have heard Proud Mary, and like it, and think you know the lyrics, you will never, ever, forget the opening chord to Born on the Bayou the first time you hear it. Dust, humidity, jungling forests, one- room shanties, coon dogs. Creedence doesn't invade this world- Creedence owns it, don't you know. Leon Russell did an album about ten years later called "Can a White Man Sing the Blues?', while this album, more to the point, says, "Can a white band STOMP the Blues?" If you have never heard Creedence before, which I guess is possible, though most of my generation (60's) wouldn't believe it, you will notice an edge to most of John Fogarty, the lead guitarist's, work, which takes the blues right to the edge of felonious mayhem. After "Born on the Bayou", the album eases back a little with the catchy "Bootleg", only to then rip the pistons and brakes off of "Graveyard Train". This is followed by "Good Golly Miss Molly", which had been popularized a few years before by Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, but Creedence plays it with not quite the screaming intensity Ryder bought to it...Fogarty, you might say keeps the guts of it while still bringing acceptable respect to what by now can only be called rhythm and blues turf. "Penthouse Pauper" is the only disappointing cut, but when you place it with the rest of the album, even "Penthouse Pauper" shows a downbeat, yet still audible expectant potential for the last two classics, "Proud Mary" and "Keep on Chooglin'".
Since "Proud Mary" has probably been reviewed thousands of (white) times, I'll skip directly to "Keep on Chooglin'" The lyrics are what I would call just short of a budweiser challenge. It's about people's need to socialize, and to drink, and to further socialize about having to drink to socialize. In these days of Ozzy Osbourne that probably sounds pretty tame, but I have yet to hear anyone come up with a line to beat, "Here come Louie, works in a sewer Lord, he goin' chooglin' tonight."
And Fogarty's solos and riffs are sooo clean, sooo crisp, you forget that this is basically a three-bar boogie, played over and over again, like a demonstration of some professional hypnotist.
The music's grittiness is practically always due to Fogarty playing against the rest of the band, so let me finally mention the rest of the personnel, for any solo record hounds that still may be out there.
Tom Fogarty (John's brother), rhythm guitar;
Stu Cook, bass
Doug Clifford, drums.
Rollin' Down The River.......2001-03-26
Creedence Clearwater Revival's second album was another step forward for the band. It contained their first top ten hit, one of the most memorable singles in rock history, "Proud Mary". The song is pure American music and a classic rock song, with its imagery of life on the Mississippi River, shuffling beat and short concise timing. The band showed that it could easily move between three minute pop songs and extended jams like "Keep On Chooglin'" and "Graveyard Train", thus fitting into both the AM and FM radio formats of the late sixties and appealing to a wide range of listeners. The title track is a blistering song that coined the musical term that is most closely associated with the band, swamp rock, while "Penthouse Pauper" is an underrated gem. Bayou Country showed that CCR was on the verge of becoming one of the biggest and best bands in rock.
Another Masterpiece!.......2000-08-08
CCR continued to firmly entrench their position in modern rock-pop music by permeating the radio airwaves with another exceptional album entitled Bayou Country. Their ready and waiting public accepted the album with open arms. It came complete with heavy doses of r & b and blues influenced rock that was tailor made for the top forty and a place in every album rack across the United States. While "Proud Mary" was finding a permanent home in the top forty and at every wedding (and it's still played often to this day), the sector of the public that revered the group for being more than just a hit machine could see the developing and growing talents of the group, including John Fogerty's ever growing presence as the front man.
Bayou Country offered the classic "Good Golly Miss Molly" with exceptional energy and exuberance. And in a totally different light than what people were accustomed to; the dark and brooding "Graveyard Train" came rollin' down the line into the deepest recesses of your mind. With over eight minutes of get-down-to-business no frills rock and roll, the group really hammered it home with a heavy-duty foundation of blues and some tastes of Bayou country to help drive it along. The end result was that a real rock classic had been born. I am not sure that many new it at the time though. If that wasn't enough to convince you that this group was much more than just a resident on the singles charts, "Keep On Chooglin' " clocked in at seven minutes and forty seconds. A virtual truckload of rock and roll boogie-woogie straight ahead music that would satisfy anyone's thirst and hunger for the ultimate jam filled with solid and lengthy sojourns on the electric guitar.
I have to wonder if anyone realized at the time of the release of this album just how talented this group was and how quickly all of the music was to become important to so many people. Of course now we realize the impact of what John Fogerty and the group made upon our musical history. We can now look upon what was accomplished (with each album) as stepping-stones to what was ahead. I can't help but feel that each and every CCR album made was a single entity that would then form a greater whole that we all now can see and enjoy.
Listen closely to all of the power and glory of the music that now seems light years away. It's readily available to bring you right back to that time frame in a heartbeat... with one flip of a switch. The wonders of technology give us more reasons to salute those that gave us so much joy back when the vinyl format was king.
A entire new generation has the opportunity to discover CCR and listen to their music like it has never been heard before. I hope that everyone has the opportunity to catch this rock n' roll train that has been chooglin' now for over thirty years. The remaster series really does shed new light upon the American musical institution known as CCR. It's a real treat for the ears and it will do your rock and roll heart good to give this CD a spin.

Album Description
The sounds for this series were recorded in 3D by Chuck Plaisance. His recording system is designed to simulate human hearing, using a binaural head microphone to capture depth, height, width, as well as directional movement. No special equipment is needed to get 3D sound from traditional stereo speakers. In fact, these albums will make your system - speakers or headphones - sound like it never has before. You are the experience.
All pieces contain compositions of pure Nature Sounds produced, arranged, edited and mastered by Chuck Plaisance and Suzanne Doucet. (aka Virtual Audio Environment).

Perfect To Fall Asleep To.......2006-07-20
I bought this CD because I didn't really know which type of sound I'd relax most too be it ocean, rain, forest, etc. Well I love all the sounds on this sampler, and I play it every night. My hubby says that 20 mins into the CD there's a rooster crowing, but I wouldn't know because by that time I'm already fast asleep. Great stuff!
3-Dimensional Pure Nature Sounds.......2005-11-21
This excellent compilation of 20 different Nature Sound albums was out of print, but is now finally available again through ONLY NEW AGE MUSIC(repackaged and remastered). This album creates a journey through different Nature scenes all recorded by Chuck Plaisance, with a special microphone that simulates human hearing. The sounds were then edited and composed, arranged and mixed like an orchestrated piece but still remain pure Sounds of Nature. Like Bernie Krause Doucet and Plaisance take essential Nature Sounds and recreate an ambience that takes you even deeper into the essence of Nature.

Customer Reviews:
Selections from the Greatest Voice of the Last Hundred Years.......2007-03-13
Mario Lanza was, arguably, the greatest tenor and greatest singer of this and the last century. It is difficult to appreciate him without listening to a variety of selections. This collection has some of his best recordings and exhibits the versatility and variety that he possessed that permitted him to "crossover" from opera to popular music with a ease.
I recommend this for those who already know Lanza to some extent but want to go into more depth and understand his marvelous skills.
A Must Have .......2006-12-12
I had forgotten what a beautiful voice Mario Lanza had. This collection contains opera and pop selections that exhibit the power yet sweetness of his voice. Fortunately, we have his CD's and videos so we can remember and listen to his gorgeous, vibrant voice and personality. I highly recommend this collection along with his wonderful movies, especially The Great Caruso.

extract from most important LPs. Brilliant sound quality from RCA. Also included are soundtrack recordings from some of his movies. The are several reissues from Mario Lanza but this one is a collection you should have.
WONDERFUL!!!!!.......2005-10-19
The Mario Lanza Collection is a three CD set and it has 61 songs and they all sound great. The mastering on this set is excellent and the song choice is very very good. It would have been perfect if they added a forth CD with more Arias, Italian songs and Sacred Arias. BUT still this set is a great introduction to Lanza. Lanza's voice was powerful and beautiful; if you are a fan of great singing, you will love Lanza. Highlights on this CD set are; Be my Love, Because your Mine, Serenade, With a Song in My Heart, Temptation, The Lord's Prayer, Ciribirbin, O Solo Mio, Ariverducci Roma, and on and on. They are many many great songs on this set, and I highly recommend it.
