About the Artist
Kenny Kleinpeter retired from the family business four years ago to pursue his dream of composing and playing piano. He says that he has never worked harder and the five CDs he has released thus far affirm that statement. Kleinpeter, a native Louisianian lives in Baton Rouge.

Product Description
This is Kenny Kleinpeter's first "post September" album and the bittersweet melodies reflex the changes in our lives. His piano and strings instrumentals paint vivid heart-felt moods of serenity and peace. Four songs continue his Louisiana theme in describing the Old State Capitol and songs about the territory of the Louisiana Purchase which celebrates its bicentennial next year. Two songs mark the passing of friends and a brother, Durby, to whom the CD is dedicated. This is a must have CD for the Kleinpeter collection.

While not overly generous at 55 minutes, the highlights album of the 1987 original Broadway cast recording of Les Miserables is intelligently selected and likely to prove satisfying to most fans. It includes the best-loved numbers of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's score, beautiful ballads ("Bring Him Home," "I Dreamed a Dream") and rousing anthems ("One Day More," "Do You Hear the People Sing?") alike, but eliminates some choral numbers ("Lovely Ladies"), redundancies ("Red and Black"), and connective tissue that propels the plot along ("Valjean Arrested," "Come to Me (Fantine's Death)"). Sure, a more perfect selection could have lasted longer than half of the two-disc set's 104 minutes by adding "At the End of the Day" and "In My Life," among others, but it's still a good representation on a convenient single disc. Of course, those who always want to re-create the theatrical experience will never be satisfied with a highlights album.

Re-creating their roles from the London production, Colm Wilkinson plays the heroic Valjean and Frances Ruffelle is the despondent Eponine. Randy Graff (Fantine), Terrence Mann (Javert), David Bryant (Marius), Judy Kuhn (Cosette), Michael Maguire (Enjolras), and Leo Burmester and Jennifer Butt (the Thénardiers) fill out the cast. --David Horiuchi

Each member of the Les Miserables cast stands to deliver this musical to its audience. Within moments we are transported to France during their Restoration. We experience sadness, laughter and, indeed, want to join in their crusade. The music and deliverance, in my opinion, is excellent.

Composers Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's score for "Les Miserables" is simply brilliant and the spectacular Broadway cast, led by Colm Wilkinson, Randy Graff, Terrence Mann, and Frances Ruffelle, help bring this incredible music to life!

While I normally enjoy "highlight" cds, this one clocks in at a mere 55 minutes and could have easily included a couple of additional tunes (thus losing one star). Most notably missing: "At The End Of The Day", "Come To Me", "Red And Black", and "In My Life". The show's most memorable songs, however, are included.

Highlights are never worth it. You will never get the little in-between songs which make a show complete, montages will be cut together badly instead of being full songs as they should be...so much is left out. This is a fantastic show and deserves to be heard in full.

I haven't purchased the CD but the picture of the inside of a church on the cover is not of a British church, like one would assume since it says its a recording of British choirs. This picture is of Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Just thought i'd let you know. I'll be honest; I'm one to judge things by it's cover and if the company took such care to choose a 'British' church for their British choir CD, I'm willing to bet the music is equally well selected... I'm being sarcastic. But I gave the product 5 stars because I didn't want to hurt its ratings just because i'm cynical. But check out the church if you're ever in Montreal, it's truly beautiful... here I'm not being sarcastic.

    This is a collection of mostly spiritual-leaning songs Judy put out in the early 90's--it's actually the american version of the Amazing Grace album she did for Telstar (which is now available again I see). To say this is a simple quiet album is true in a sense, but it is mostly a pleasurable warm listening experience.

    The standout is "The Life You Dream", Judy's ecumenical song about belief, meditation, and personal worship. It is one of those deep songs of truth and understanding. It stands with Houses, The Blizzard, Since You've Asked & the title song "Trust Your Heart", as a great art song penned from the deep heart of knowing.

    Her version of "The Rose" here is a great showcase of her soaring vocal style. "Moonfall" from a broadway show The Mystery Of Edwin Drood, is a great showcase for her singing and she makes it her own. There is a new (at the time) version of "Amazing Grace" here. Instead of the chorus, she uses a quartet of male voices and it borders on simple gospel.

    If you can get this in original form instead of chopped on 2 other compilations that were released, it is a real treat.

    I'd be tempted to make this the one, and I own over 2,000. I agree with what has been said above, but have a few thoughts of my own. I live near a major city with a known orchestra. Why are classical audienced declining? Maybe they're overplaying hackneyed works, and not playing some neglected masterpieces. In this double album there are some well known works, but some exquisite finds, like Picker's Old and Lost Rivers, Honegger's Pastorale, Arvo Part's Summa (!!!). Most highly recommended, with a good bottle of red wine.

    I came upon this compilation while researching a somewhat obscure piece called "Summer Pastorale", which is contained in the collection. One look at the play list and I was sold - here were most of my favorite tone poems, adagios, and assorted short works, all on one CD (OK, two CD's...)

    Another gem here that I had never heard before is Pick's "Old and Lost Rivers". Ravel's final movement from Mother Goose is one of his best orchestrations and at the top of my 'A' list.

    About the only pieces I missed here were Debussy's Engulfed Cathedral and Respighi's fourth church window, St. Gregory the Great. Perhaps they would be a bit too dramatic for this collection, though.

    The only shortcoming of this collection is the lack of liner notes, but this is a minor issue. The music is superb.

    Like a few other reviewers here, I purchased this disc for Tobias Picker's "Old and Lost Rivers." But from the Gregorian chants that open this two-CD set to the closing strains of Ravel's "Mother Goose: The Fairy Garden," I was absolutely captivated by the beauty and cohesiveness of this compilation. Producer Robert Laporta has created a disc that passes muster with neophytes and long time classical music lovers alike. I humbly suggest -- make that BEG -- that Virgin Classics turn "Classical Dreams" into a series. I would love to hear a second volume featuring such favorites as the BBC Symphony Orchestra's interpretation of Delius' "On Hearing the 1st Cuckoo In Spring," the Royal Philharmonic's version of Vaughan Williams' "Fantastia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" and the London Symphony's recording of Vaughan Williams' "Symphony No. 3 Pastoral" (Andre Previn conducting both Vaughan Williams' selections). By far, this is the finest classical collection I have yet heard. Encore!

    What a pleasant surprise this double CD turned out to be. I bought it used just for Picker's gorgeous and poetic "Old and Lost Rivers" but fell in love with the whole thing. I'm not usully one for "Best Of ---" or themed classical collections, but this one's in a class by itself. The selections are unusual and achingly lovely in themselves and as a whole. This is my new favorite disk. It's a relaxation or concentration tool... hell, it's a companion - it goes wherever my laptop and headphones go. You get over two hours of gorgeous and lyrical - never mushy, sentimental or tired - classical music, the perfect backdrop for everything from dinner dates to writing code. This CD has added sustained moments of beauty and poise to a busy life - which is more than I could have asked for!

    Digitally Remastered 44 Tracks Anthology on 2CD'S from the UK '60's Beat Group that Hailed from Coventry, Originally Known as the Boys Blue. Vocalist Don Maughn (Who Later Changed his Name to Fardon in 1967) Sported a Powerful Voice which Proved to Be the Sorrows' Main Asset. They Made the Charts with the Single "Take a Heart". The Collection Includes all their UK Singles and the Stereo Album Take of "Take a Heart" as Well as Foreign Language Tracks and Previously Unissued Material. This Set was First Issued by the Sequel Label, but Lapsed Out of Print on the Label's Demise.

    If it weren't for The Creation, The Sorrows might just claim the biggest gap between quality of catalog and dearth of fame. Unlike The Creation, who had a small measure of acclaim in their native UK (and bona fide stardom in Germany), the beat-era Sorrows barely even dented their home chart. In place of The Creation's brashness, The Sorrows were pure beat era, mixing the danceable modness of the Kinks with the R&B muscle of The Pretty Things and Who.

    Tunes like "Come With Me" are the epitome of waltz-time Swinging England harmony pop. Think of Sidney Poitier dancing to The Mindbenders' "It's Getting Harder All the Time" in the film "To Sir With Love" and you'll have a good idea. The band's catalog is filled with great R&B-tinged stompers and ballads, with start/stop rhythms, riffing guitars, pounding drums, strong harmonies and Don Maughn's gritty vocals. Maughn would later change his name to Fardon and hit in the UK with "Indian Reservation" before The Raiders got to it.

    This two disc set includes the band's one and only LP, "Take a Heart" (in both mono and stereo) along with bonus singles, previously unreleased tracks, alternate takes, and a handful of sides from their latter-day residency in Italy. The Italian tracks translate the lyrics of a few songs from the album, and stretch into heavier freakbeat/psych sounds. Several labels have reissued this material over the years, including a Sequel release of these same 42 tracks.
