About the Artist
Guitarist virtuoso Scott Huckabay draws from his own Native American Apache and Chirachua roots exuding primal earth energy with his music. With incense burning between strings, wearing bells on his right ankle, the passionate ritual begins. The stage echoes, rolling like thunder under his bare feet, pounding a mesmerizing heartbeat. Dancing in a circle, shaking his dolphin guitar like a shaman shaking his magic medicine rattle, he lifts the guitar to his lips and howls the ancient cries from the deepest seas, leading us on a mesmerizing journey.
Huckabay coaxes, drums, strums, slaps, rattles, improvises, bends and infuses, fractals, harmonics and sounds not of this dimension. He has developed over 200 open guitar tunings and his intricate licks incorporate elements of trance, rock, folk, blues and fusion. He peppers a rhythmic groove with the warping and bending of notes, complete with an array of harmonic surprises. A rich and multi-textured sound, including percussive interludes creates the illusion of three or four musicians performing.
Scott Huckabay has recorded and produced seven musical recordings including the acclaimed CD entitled "Peace Dance". He has written poetry for a book, "Angels of the Sea," (Hay House) and has been featured in the film "Quest for the Dolphin Spirit". His music was recently heard on several MTV's Real World episodes and he regularly receives airplay on NPR's Echoes. He also creates a wide variety of multimedia projects including the recent release of his CD "Alchemy," which incorporates an interactive CD-ROM, "The Sonic Alchemists Journey". Scott is currently recording on the Soundings of the Planet label, whose motto is Peace Through Music. www.peacethroughmusic.com
Huckabay has performed with such artists as Chicago, Steve Morse, Joe Satriani, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Bonnie Raitt, Albert Lee, Buffy Saint-Marie, Shadowfax, Jackson Browne, John Trudell, Toni Childs, Sarah MacLachlan, Pierre Bensusan, Ram Das, Hapa, Bob Weir, Randy Hanson, and performed at various festivals, theaters, stadiums, Universities and coffee houses across the U.S.
In 1987, Huckabay was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident. Doctors told him that he would lose all feeling in his right hand and left leg and that he would not walk or use his right hand again. During his recovery he began to get acquainted with the acoustic guitar, and a miraculous healing process began. Music of divine inspiration began to flow from deep within his soul. Scott attributes his incredible healing to this new music and to a year spent swimming with wild dolphins and whales in Hawaii. The genius and creative spirit of Jimi Hendrix also inspires him.
It is with this music that Scott hopes to help heal the wounds of the earth and all of its creatures, and to transform pain and sorrow into peace, beauty, joy and love. Scott is also a devote environmentalist, vegetarian & practices yoga on a daily basis. *

Meshell at her very best!.......2007-01-30
Ten years after its release, this is still my favourite Meshell Ndegeocello CD ("Bitter" comes a close second) and is one of my favourite albums of all time. A mistress of the bass guitar, with the sexiest voice I've ever heard in my life, she covers a wide variety of subjects on this controversial, bible-referenced album, ranging from her issues with religion ("The Way"), to her love for women ("Mary Magdalene") to familial homophobia ("Levicticus: Faggot") while all the way through speaking of a love much deeper than any I could ever imagine or hope to experience. "When we make love I feel it so deeply/ When we make love I cry," she sings on "A Tear And A Smile", for instance. She sings later on in the same song: "I would not exchange the sorrows of my heart for the joys of the multitude/ And I would not have the tears that sadness makes to flow from my every part turn into laughter/ I want the hunger for your love and beauty to fill me from the depths of my spirit."
Or check out "Bittersweet": "You enchant me so my bittersweet flower/ Mystery of the sages come into my realm of imagination/ Let Me Digest You," she sings (I've never heard it put like that before) and then goes on: "I cry myself to sleep over you/ You come and then you go/ The more I fall the more you let go/ The sweet taste of you stains my lips/ Even through the pain it's only you I miss."
Damn, girl.
She's right of course, in my opinion. I too question whether religion has ever really been a force for good and I too think real love does mean giving oneself completely, without fear of falling; jumping without a parachute, if you will. I've just never had the guts to try it.
Meshell Ndegeocello is a pioneer in more ways than might be immediately apparent. She was certainly combining hip-hop, soul, funk and the spoken word long before anyone else that I know of. This is top-notch music right from the intro to the end of the last song. Personally, I feel this is a five star classic. I liked "Plantation Lullabies" well enough but it was this album that made me a life-long committed fan. I think she's a genius.
Off the hook!!.......2006-09-25
This CD by MeShell is still my absolute favorite. I have all of her CDs and I love her music. She is a phenomenal talent.
Strong, funky & gentle.......2006-02-25
I first purchased this album when it came out in 1996 and loved it then.
Had to buy it again in 2006 because it went missing from my collection.
Me'Shell has a great voice, the grooves are funky and has great lyrical content.
This album belongs in your collection.
Everyone should be listening to Me'shell.......2006-02-02
I've had this CD for years and I love listening to the smooth sounds of this talented bassist. Me'shell is a true artist every way. She make beautiful music and if you're not listening to her then you are truely missing out.
Me'Shell is a true original.......2005-11-25
This is Me'Shell's best recording, and in fact a quintissential new funk/R&B recording that deserves a place in anyone's collection. It represents an exploration, both sonically and conceptually. The songs that start out as ballads end up as tight, intense grooves, and the songs that start out fast still sound smooth and deep.
I was attracted to this recording because I am a bass player, and Me'Shell is as funky a bass player as they come. What brings me back to this recording, again and again, is the quality of the songwriting and the boldness of the musical statements she makes. Buy it.

Successful crossing over from East to West.......2007-07-06
Nowadays many classical musicians move to 'cross-overs' between Western classics to exotic works, and Chinese musicians and composers pioneer in cross-overs from Chinese music to Western.
Alas, not all attempts are successful. Either there has not been enough nurturing in the Chinese repertoire, or the western playing style has not yet been fully developed.
Ms. Yang is a young classical guitarist. Gathering from what she said in her own introduction to this disc, she is a musician with a great ambition. It is true that the classical guitar may not have a substantial repertoire as other western instruments like the violin and piano. Hence drawing materials from other culture in a guitarist's repertoire is both a necessity and an endeavour.
A guitarist from Beijing, Ms. Yang is familiar with classical Chinese instruments like the gu qin, the zheng and the pipa. These ancient Chinese instruments are like the guitar- all are played by plucking strings set on wooden surfaces. So as Ms Yang herself noted - the guitar originated from the Middle East, a 'cross-over' area of Eastern and Western culture.
In many of the modern works recorded in this disc, Ms Yang played the guitar to the effect of those ancient Chinese instruments, and this is quite stunning. Her familiarity with the Eastern musical style is fully demonstrated, adding the requisite flavour of authenticity to her interpretation. There are a number of great compositions of the gu qing, the zheng as well as the pipa, and I truly look forward to Ms Yang's transcriptions of those to the guitar in due course.
A highly recommended recording for guitar players, guitar lovers and Chinese music fans alike.
One of the best solo guitar albums I have ever heard.......2006-10-06
One of the most original CDs I've ever heard. This CD is full of incredible music. Yang XueFei plays with sensitivity, creativity and passion.
When I played this CD for my guitar teacher, he commented that it was rare for him not to have heard at least one piece on any particular classical guitar CD, yet all these pieces were new to him. Carlo Domeniconi (who wrote the masterpiece "Koyunbaba") has composed an outstanding suite based on the I Ching. The 3 pieces by Stephen Goss, which are based on Asian films, are themselves cinematic: "The Blue Kite" is a work of minimalist beauty. There are many other talented composers lending their gifts to this CD. Most of the selections are either composed for Yang Xuefei or are arrangements by her. All are inspired by Chinese culture and music. My favorite piece is "Long Outstretched Pier with its Shadow" (by Dietmar Ungerrank); it is elegantly written and the execution is sensual and rich.
Yang XueFei's technical agility, especially the right hand, (as in "Yi Dance") goes beyond that of her contemporaries. As impressive as this is, the passion she imbues into each work is what connects her to the songs and ultimately to the audience. Technique is there to help her express what is inside of her. It is as if the guitar is her lover. This just isn't a great guitar album; it is a great album period. Its emotional complexity deepens with each listening. Buy it!
I've also purchased "Romance de Amor" which is extremely good as well (listen to her version of "Requerdos de la Alhambra" as compared to one of her heroes, John Williams on "The Guitarist"), but "Si Ji" is totally unique. Don't miss it.
As an aside, If you do end up buying and enjoying this CD, you might listen to Lily Afshar. The influence of her Persian heritage is similar in effect to "Si Ji" by Yang XueFei. Both artists have breathed life into the modern repertoire of guitar music.
Virtuoso playing and an unusual repetoire.......2005-10-26
I am a classical guitar student, and an over-the-top consumer. So I have a lot (many dozens) of classical guitar CDs. They are for the most part quite good, but they tend to blend. I might be able to distinguish Tennant's Rodrigo or Barrueco's Scarlatti, but too many guitarists play an awful lot of the same repetoire, and they play it quite similarly.
This CD is quite different. The pieces are all Asian in flavor and by composers I had never heard of. And they are quite beautiful. Ms. Yang appears to be quite young, so this could be the start of a long and interesting career. But at least one of the pieces was written for her, so she has already apparently developed a solid reputation.

Blast from the past...........2006-08-19
Born in the 70's but grew up in the 80's, it was around 1984 that I started to care about music and the late 80's and early 90's that I started to collect it and use it to rebel against the parents like every other teenager. We had a local radio station that decided to try a new format "alternative" music. That format lasted a whopping 1 year and struggled the whole time, but I heard some great new music by artists that I never would have heard from on the more popular music stations. One of those bands were Anything Box. Listening to the music now, it sounds kind of packaged and repetitive, but still has a good feel to it. They were a little shallow at the time that this album came out hence the lack of depth to the music and the sounds are very tinney. But still a good listen after all of these years just to pull it out of the collection and pop it into the cd player for a little nostalgia.
Simply brilliant !!.......2004-07-03
This record is very good indeed. If you like groups like Depeche Mode, Erasure a.o. you can't go wrong on this record. I was rather surprised that an american band could make such great
synth-music, but Anything Box proved me wrong. BUY IT NOW !!
Still one of the best synthpop band!.......2003-12-24
My friend introduced this band to me over 13 years ago, and I am still listening to it. This is definitely one of my favorite albums of all time.
A must have for any synthpop fan. You'll love it!.......2003-01-09
This CD is a must have for any fan of synthpop. All the songs are great, melodic and beautiful. I loved every single song on this album and couldn't get enough. Some songs are upbeat and danceable while some other songs are sad and melancholy. You can definitely relate to them still in 2003. Claude is a fantastic vocalist and Dania Morales does a great job on back-up vocals. The song writing is very good and the melodies are wonderful. This album is wonderful - you won't be dissapointed. I look forward to receiving their follow up to this album "worth" in thenext few days.
One Of The Better U.S. Synth- Pop Bands.......2002-11-06
Anything Box had one big hit back in 1990 with "Living On Oblivion". This is unfortunate, because they have so many good songs. Their first album "Peace", is a collection of simple hook laden tracks. Anything Box is somewhat of a cross between DM and Erasure. The songs are more pop friendly than most DM songs, but the production values were heavily influenced by DM. However, Anything Box is a band that stands on it's own six feet. "Jubilation", "Our Dreams" and "Carmen" are just as good if not better than their big hit. And my favorite track "I Felt The Pain" is the one moment where Claude S lets loose, and gives us his best vocal performance on the album. All in all, a good album with a few throw away tracks. If you like synth-pop, this is a must.

Peter Kruder of the famed duo Kruder and Dorfmeister, stays true to form (downtempo yet invigorating) on this, his first solo outing. Peace Orchestra is similar to his work in K&D, but--if possible--the music is even more serene and stoned sounding. Floaty melodies sparkle against a backdrop of gauzy reverb and echo. Vocals drift in and out of consciousness. And it's all very, very slow. The record contains less funk and groove than K&D's projects, but it's no less sensual. Dreamy is the operative word here. Much like Mixmaster Morris's superb downtempo ambient collection It's Tomorrow Already, Peace Orchestra combines the sounds of trance with the tempo of downbeat to invoke a lazy, hazy summer day. --Tricia Romano

Customer Reviews:
Peter Kruder is the saivor of electronic music..........2006-09-03
and this album is 100% proof of this fact. I have owned this cd for about a year, and I am still listening to it, uncovering new layers of music. Straight off, Kurder captivates you with "The Man Part 1", drums and etherial sounds paving the way and welcoming you to his mind. From there, every other track stands out as unique and individual. I cannot pick out a favorite track because I cannot just listen to one track alone, they each compliment another, flowing beautifully from one to the next (however this is not a mix album). This album comes highly recommended and compliments any cd collection. Also, concerning those people that have only heard "Who Am I" (from the Animatrix) clearly did not listen to the entire album with a critical ear. If you are just expecitng "Who Am I", I promise you that Kruder will blow past your expectations and create an image of musical beauty that is rarely matched by any other electronic artist in the world today.
A little bit about samples..........2006-01-21
I listen to SOMA.fm's "GrooveSalad" in iTunes a lot these days -- I just leave it running all day on my Mac at work. Just now I heard Peace Orchestra's "Marakesh" playing. It's a great track, but what really got me was hearing one of the samples composer Peter Kruder employed over and over again in the track: it's a small vocal bit by URSZULA DUDZIAK from her 1979 album "Future Talk." The sample is a vocal refrain taken from the title track, written by her famed Polish violinist husband, Michael Urbaniak. I was once a radio DJ and used to play this track all the time on my radio show (yes, it was a very obscure station where I was allowed to play whatever suited me...). While I was elated to here it employed in the track, I do wonder if a] she knows about it, and b] if she was credited for its use...
good.......2005-09-15
good some new stuff, pretty mellow, 1 really good track feature on animatrix. Other tracks don't compare, don't buy cd if you want tracks that sound like track from animatrix
Disapointing.......2004-09-30
Honestly, I was disapointed. "Who am I" is great, but otherwise I thought the CD was just plain and even boring. It's the typical music you'd hear in a lounge/bar but wouldn't even notice because it sounds so much like all the other stuff out there.
yummy downtempo goodness.......2003-12-18
There is nothing on this album that can be improved. It broods with intelligent beats and shining electronic texture. This is the perfect CD to put on in the background when you are working or creating. It's not harsh, not sleepy, but a generous blend of trippy and relaxing. Much recommended.

Great Disc... But..........2007-02-26
My PEACE & LOVE, INC. cd suddenly stopped playing in my computer's cd drive. So I bought a new one from Amazon. Guess what? That one also refused to be recognized by my computer's cd drive. But my computer's cd drive will play any other music cd. What gives? I even tried reading the two bad discs with my external cd/dvd drive and that also failed. Is it possible that the PEACE & LOVE, INC. discs degrade quickly due to some manufacturing defect? This is lame because I want to transfer this album to my iPod, but can't seem to get a clean disc.

Track 12 is an EASTER EGG............2007-01-19
I was all about IS back in the late 80's early 90's. I loved them and had their debut album (still my fav), HACK and Peace & Love, INC. I couldn't wait for them to release P&LI. When I got it home and played through all the tracks, track 12 pierced my ears. But looking at the name of the song, 300bps N, 8, 1 (Terminal Mode Or Ascii Download), I knew that was modem settings. I called my uncle, whom at the time worked for IBM, and told him the track sounded like modem tones. I met him at his house and played track 12 for him and he agreed and proceeded to connect it to his IBM AT PC and played it while connected to his printer. What happened next was totally ahead of it's time and 'til this day still unique. Pages flowed from the printer and I couldn't wait to read it. When it stopped, my uncle and I sat there and read through a story of how the band was in south america and the tour bus got stuck in the mud on a dirt road. It has been 15 or so years so that's all I can remember but it was a fun read. I printed it out tried to lug it with me over the years but no longer can find it. If anyone reading this has a soft copy, I'd love to see it again. Might have to dig up my CD and see if I am savy enough to do it on my own this time.
Also, their debut CD was a CD+G. The G stood for graphics and I always wanted to see what was on the CD. A couple of years go I found a CD-G player on the web (google it) and it allowed you to use your PC CD-Rom as a CD+G player. It was an evaluation copy so I only got to see a few seconds of each track. It was basically home made animated videos for each song, telling how each track was made, what equipment was used in making the songs. Again, very cool for 1988. I still don't think anyone else has done that.
Information Society was a very unique band, be it music, videos, dress or technology used.
I miss them.
Welcome to Peace & Love Inc........2005-02-14
Overall a great album from the group. I prefer Hack myself but that is not meant to take away from this album. The album rolls through the songs and is over before it even seems to get started, but that is a good thing. The songs all have the same basic tempo and it keeps you moving. I think this album is best used in the deck on a road trip. The last 'song' is a throwback to the modems. Info Society always made extra material hidden for hackers to find so this track was designed to talk to your computer which back on release day was cutting edge. I think (if I remember correctly) it gave you a story about ninjas and roller skates and remote controlled tour buses in Brazil... Enjoy the samples from The Outer Limits, Star Trek, Salt & Pepa and so on. This is a signature album for the time even though it sat somewhat underground.
Underrated masterpiece.......2004-03-11
It seems that after the hit "What's on your mind", one of their only singles to make it to the top ten, in 1988, everyone forgot about Information Society. Which is really sad, because Kurt Harland, Jim Cassidy and Paul Robb, far from sitting on their laurels, produced many other great songs, such as How long and Think, from the album Hack. And then, along came their third effort, Peace & Love inc. It did very poorly on the charts when released in 1992, and the video to the title song was never even shown on MTV. But saying that the album's lack of commercial success was due to its poor quality would be a great mistake. In fact, I believe that P&L inc. is by far InSoc's best effort. "Information Society" had nice, poppy, catchy, Top-40-friendly songs (as Kurt Harland said later), "Hack" contained good songs but it had too many different genres and was very uneven. On Peace & Love inc, it's as though InSoc finally knew where they were going. They could finally allow themselves to write electronic music and be their computer, keyboard-loving selves without being criticized for not using any "real" instruments. Peace & Love still has a strong pop feel (Crybaby is a beautiful midtempo ballad; Kurt had just broken up with his girlfriend when they recorded this song and you can really hear the sorrow in his voice) but the sound is generally more aggressive and electonic (the title song and Still Here are the best examples of that), and extremely fun to listen to (100 000 Watts of Love). And of course, InSoc wouldn't be InSoc without all those samples, right? Well, they can be found almost everywhere on the album, but if you pay enough attention, on Made to be Broken, you will hear two samples that originally were on Think (the radio-tuning sound and the voice saying "Oh Yeah", or something like that). All in all, P&L inc. is a great album and it's a shame that InSoc was forgotten so easily, when they deserved much more than that.
Information Society's 3rd CD.......2003-11-25
"Peace and Love, Inc.", Information Society's third CD, opens with the same-named single, an upbeat, pop/dance tune. The majority of songs on here are like this: airy and synth-heavy, except for filler tracks like #3: "To the City" (which I liked) and #12: "300bps N, 8, 1 (Terminal Mode or ASCII Download)" (which just gave me a headache; it's three minutes of high-pitched computer screaming). I wasn't too terribly impressed with this CD, but Information Society and/or '90s techno fans should like it. Lyrics are included.

Amazon.com
Few collections are so aptly titled as The Golden Harvest, a rich survey of Shaker songs, chants, and spirituals dating from the mid-19th century. The music often recalls the shapes and cadences of English folksong, while its unaccompanied, unison performance tradition connects with medieval chant. Thirty-eight selections are partitioned into groups according to subject: there are songs about birds, heavenly spirits, and the all-important harvest. Joel Cohen, who transcribed much of this music from old manuscripts, mixes and matches performers drawn from the Boston Camerata in solo and group settings to ensure maximum timbral and expressive variety. Hear, for example, how the call-and-response patterns in "Pretty Home" build to a joyful climax. By contrast, some of the introspective, a cappella hymns quietly resonate with poignant simplicity. A bonus track features the six Shaker family members of Sabbathday Lake, Maine, in conversation with Joel Cohen. In sum, this disc is a beautifully assembled, excellently annotated follow-up to Cohen's 1994 Shaker anthology, Simple Gifts. Should you feel inclined to sing along, full texts are included. --Jed Distler
Customer Reviews:
Shaker Music at its best.......2002-03-18
For authenticity and variety, this is one of the best albums available. It includes both well-known and new songs done in proper Shaker tempo using voices alone to convey the feelings reflected in the songs. The comments by the Shakers regarding their thoughts about their music gives a special touch to the album. This album, along with the earlier one titled "Simple Gifts", is a worthwhile addition to any collection.
Simply Beautiful.......2000-12-02
The Boston Camerata is characteristically superb in interpreting this new collection of 19th century Shaker spirituals. Like their previous recording of Shaker songs, "Simple Gifts," the Camerata captures the hope and humility of Shaker belief, performing with bouyant movement and emotional clarity. By dividing the songs into thematic sections however, this CD is untimately stronger and more consistent than the latter. The Native American songs are particulary unique and the addition of a youth choir and the Shakers brothers and sisters add a freshness and reality to the smooth as silk voices of the ever professional Camerata. The tunes sound like a combination of folk and traditional protestant church music, but the lyrics reveal many elements of Shaker theology, some quaint, some still as revolutionary as they must have seemed in 1830. This CD offers an inspirational experience no matter what your religious background, the perfomances transcend definition.

Customer Reviews:
Neither Circus nor Spectacular, but it is Karl King........2006-10-15
Having played a number of times under Karl King, I had great expectations for this CD. Alas, it was not to be. The music is there, the musicians play all the right notes and the conductor keeps time. The recording is only mediocre, of Laserlight quality, and the performance is not what I expected from what they call a "Circus Band." Indeed, the liner notes state that the band is mostly students and professionals from the Philadelphia area. In other words, a "pick up" band. And the conductor seems to have no circus experience only small town symphony experience (from the puffery in the liner notes). From listening, it would appear that he has never even heard a real circus band. Both conductor and band would not last a day at a real circus. I do have a suspicion, however, that the musicians would do better under a better conductor.
Now, if they called themselves a concert band, that would be accurate and fair, and would not have dashed my hopes, as they are OK as a concert band. But just OK.
Of course, a concert band can indeed generate all the excitement of a bona fide circus band, as Frederick Fennell so aptly demonstrated on his Mercury recordings.
Now, if you want real circus music played by a real circus band, get a Merle Evans recording.
However, having said all that, I will keep the album, as I have always been a Karl King fan, and it is fine music decently played by an OK concert band.
Great circus music.......2005-08-12
I needed some circus music to promote a fundraiser our Lion's club was having (a circus). I got the CD on time and it sounded great. I could not find this type of music anywhere else. Thanks.
Good music, mediocre playing.......2001-11-19
It was indeed exciting to find so many of Karl King's marches on one disc. The band's playing, however leaves a lot to be desired, as does the sound quality of the disc. The balance is poor, with a very annoying tenor sax playing loud and out-of-tune on every cut. Buy this if you are a march collector (which I am), but I do not recommend it for its entertainment value. Get the "Screamers" disc by Fennell and Eastman for a far superior set of circus marches with great playing and sound.
Review of Circus Spectacular.......2000-12-07
Certainly the best thing about this CD is that there are many of Karl King's marches that have probably never been recorded previously, which is curious, since some of them rank with his best. The curious thing about this CD, on the other hand, is that it is supposedly a circus album, but only a few marches were actually written for the "big top". This band is not the best I have heard - recommend listening with headphones, to get a much clearer, less muddled sound. King was only kind of a contemporary of Sousa, having lived 35-40 years later. He actually published more marches than Sousa, and generally wrote in a style that was "softer" than the March King. Sousa wrote mostly military-style marches (better than anyone else ever has, of course), whereas King wrote many military as well as circus marches, and marches in a simpler style, suitable for school bands.
Circus Spectacular.......2000-08-12
This recording of music by Karl King is absolutely splendid -it contains 28 tracks most of which I have certainly not heard before - I particularly liked the tempos of the marches - not too quick but just right - the band is good (although I had never heard of them) - I came across this recording by chance and I'm glad I did - highly recommended

Pure beauty.......2005-09-06
Ever since Charlotte Church turned into a tabloids' darling and a wannabe pop star, there's been a gap opened for a young, sweet-faced soprano. The best bet on filling it seems to be Hayley Westenra, a young singer/dancer from New Zealand.
The result: "Pure," an album that is reminiscent of early Sarah Brightman, back when she did folk songs and showtunes. Westenra sticks close to her classical sound with songs like the delicate "In Trutina" and the traditional New Zealand song "Pokarekare Ana," which is rendered with the backing of a a rather muddled male chorus and some swelling strings.
However, Westenra doesn't neglect more modern songs, and she does well in classical pop as well as straightforward classical. The big difference seems to be a bit of synth and a delicate guitar melody, in songs like the charming "Beat of Your Heart" and dreamy "Why Painted the Moon Black?" It's a smooth, thoroughly sweet crossover effect.
Westenra also eschews the usual round of classical-pop songs, like "Nella Fantasia." I love that song, but it's been done so many times. Instead, she opts for Maori lullabies, Vivaldi ballads, the neglected "Mummer's Dance" and the orchestral cathedral grandeur of "Benedictus." She even covers Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights," adding a modern feel to the finale.
That is not to say that every choice is an excellent one. "Wuthering Heights" has Westenra trying to sound more Bush-ian, while "Amazing Grace" is too simple vocally. Aside from those, her choices of song are excellent -- rich, uplifting and beautiful, and backed by a wide range of orchestral musicians, especially the strings.
There is also an accompanying EP, in which Westenra covers four Christmas ballads, and does them all justice. Her vocals are well suited to the dignified lyrics of songs like "The Mummer's Dance" and "Silent Night," although a bit less for the still-lovely "Mary Did You Know" and "Away in a Manger."
Her vocals themselves are not operatic, but they are strong, clear and sweet, without pretensions or dramatic flourishes. The effect is stunning, more given to magic and sweetness than to keeping to classical standards. Since this was recorded when Westenra was only sixteen, one wonders how good she'll be in ten years.
Despite comparisons to Charlotte Church, Hayley Westenra is more like Sarah Brightman -- a sweet-voiced singer, straddling the fence between classical and pop. An enchanting experience.
WHAT A GIFT!.......2004-12-20
I RECEIVED THESE 2 CDS AS A GIFT AND I LISTEN TO THEM FREQUENTLY. HER PERFORMANCE WITH RUSSELL WATSON (ON DVD)ON HIS TOUR IS WONDERFUL. I CAN'T WAIT FOR A NEW ALBUM. WOULD LIKE TO GET HER NEW SONG, BRIDAL BALLAD, FROM THE SOUNDTRACK OF THE MERCHANT OF VENICE
Incredible voice - Incredible CD.......2004-04-29
I recently saw Hayley on TV and had to immediately buy this CD. Her voice is so clear and pure, and her songs are filled with lyrical emotion.
It is an absolutely incredible CD that any music lover should have in their collection. My favorite song is Wuthering Heights.
The Best.......2004-04-27
Her album is the best, voice of an angel.......you can totally relakes to her music.
Charlotte is NO match..........2003-12-15
Hayley is just phenomenal. There is no doubt that she surpasses every other female artist in her genre. This CD is astonishing. My two favorite songs are "Heaven" and "Wuthering Heights". The first Hayley Westenra song I ever heard was "Heaven". It would not be the last. Her voice is like that of an angel. She has a smooth, serene sound, and she has an incredible range. If you want a more classical sound, you want her. It's not that gaudy stuff that people generally think of. This stuff has a beat... and it's not pumping with bass. If you're a fan of Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, Charlotte Church, or Mario Frangoulis... try Hayley Westenra, you won't regret it. I just can't wait 'til she comes to the states... that'll be a good day. She has a few Italian songs, but she's not heavy on the foreign stuff like some of the other artists of Opera / Classical. She's got a wonderful voice for a little girl... I'm a huge fan, Hayley! You roped me in, in about 2 minutes time!

ONe of the best CD music investments I have made. Use it primarily for relaxation/meditation but it will also work well with massage environment.
It goes from spine tingling inspirational to soothing and relaxing. Totally shifts my conciousness to a higher plane.

Great Classical Spectrum .......2005-03-21
These cd's are a great set of varied classical music. Pavane is my favorite. Additionally, Classical Chillout 2 offers theme music from Harry Potter and it is very well done.
