Very relaxing to listen to .......2007-03-07

I'm a new fan to Andre Rieu. I didn't start getting into his music until I caught his Christmas special on my local PBS station last year. I found his performances highly energetic and playful which is rare in this often serious musical genre. After catching a repeat performance of "Tuscany", I decided to make the cd version my next Andre Rieu purchase. Whenever I listen to "Tuscany", I can easily see Andre Rieu performing with his orchestra. His skills as a violinist is exquisite. He is very subtle and is never out of tune. "Tuscany" begins with three of the most beautiful classical numbers I have ever heard. The beautiful orchestral melodies puts me at ease. I wished that the cd included "The Rose" (the Bette Midler tune) that can be seen on the dvd. I loved the operatic version. It would have been a nice addition to the cd. Of all the operatic numbers my favorite has to be "Ode to Joy". I have to admit though the singers have a terrible tendency to caterwaul on the songs which can be quite disconcerting for these ears. On the other hand the same can be said about a lot of opera singers as well as modern pop singers. There wasn't a single song on the cd that I didn't enjoy listening to. Andre Rieu's love for music really does shine through his music here. I hope some day I will have the opportunity to see him perform live. I don't think nothing can compare to seeing this talented artist live. Until then his cds will do nicely.

What wouldn't I give to have been enjoying this magnificent program in that beautiful square in Italy? Fantastic performance of unbelievabe quality and program choices. I wouldn't trade this DVD for anything.

Andre Rieu's Tuscany.......2007-01-10

Haunting melodies taking you to the hills of Tuscany where this concert was originally held. Plays well while travelling as well as at home.

I'm an Andre Rieu fan and can definitely review this CD as one of his best! It was well-recorded with good sound quality, and you can hear the excitement of that evening in Tuscany as you listen to this CD. I would also recommend the DVD/Video of that performance.

Andre Rieu is known in Europe as the King of the Waltz. He should also be known as the King of the Waltz here in the United States. Superb! He makes it fun, exciting and so refreshing as you absorb the love he has for playing the music. Thank you Andre Rieu - don't stop making your music. I vote you King of the Waltz of the World!

Spectacular Mantovani Music.......2004-09-20

This is one of Vocalion's latest re-issues of two original recordings made by Mantovani and his Orchestra in 1960. It pairs the folk songs of the "American Scene" composed by Stephen Foster and others, along with concert gems, all brilliantly arranged by Mantovani and his collaborator Cecil Milner. Stephen Foster's time-honored music appears to be having a comeback these days and so will the utterly appealing orchestral interpretations given to these chestnuts by the masterful brilliance of the Mantovani sound and the artistry and discipline of his musicians. Some 45 years ago, Mantovani's American Scene LP remained 30 weeks on Billboard's Top 40 List and rose to a high position of number 11. Listeners now, as then, will enjoy the melifluous string-laden arrangements of Beautiful Dreamer, I Dream of Jeannie, My Old Kentucky Home, Grandfather's Clock, and Goodnight Irene, and they will tap to the lively, full orchestra arrangements of Camptown Races, Ring de Banjo, and Turkey in the Straw. Decca's "Concert Spectacular" CD, never issued and rarely heard in the United States, teases the listener with a distinctive waltz time arrangement of the popular Sousa march, Stars and Stripes Forever. Many will shed a tear when they hear the cathedral sound of languorous strings and woodwinds in Danny Boy. This Concert Spectacular offers the listener a plethora of musical imagery. With extraordinary and unique orchestrations, one will feel the fiery excitement of "Granada", sense the clash of thunder and lightning in Strauss's Polka, and march step and "fall" with the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers. A Must For Operetta Lovers.......2006-11-04

This is the third volume of a trio of CDs containing songs and melodies from some of the most popular operettas from famous composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The operetta had its roots in Vienna, where it was brought to popular recognition by such musical giants as Johann Strauß, Jr.; Franz Lehár; and Emerich (Imre) Kálmán. The three volumes of The Best of Operetta, available through Amazon.com, contain some of the most beloved melodies by these great composers, plus works of Robert Stolz and Carl Zeller. No operetta collection would be complete without all three of these volumes. Operetta lovers will recognize such works as Die Fledermaus, Gräfin Mariza, The Merry Widow, The Land of Smiles, The Gypsy Baron, and others which are found in the three volumes of The Best of Operetta.

Volume 3, which is the subject of this review, contains 14 beloved operetta melodies from the pens of Johann Strauß, Franz Lehár and Emerich Kálmán, interpreted by the magnificent voices of sopranos Ingrid Kertesi and Zsuzsa Csonka and tenor János Berkes and accompanied by the Hungarian Operetta Orchestra under the baton of László Kovács.

All three volumes are accompanied by a booklet with bountiful information about the operetta in general, the composers represented in these CDs, and the songs contained in each volume. You will find the English translations very helpful.

A knowledge of German is not required to appreciate the beautiful music contained in these three volumes. You will enjoy the fine operatic voices that interpret such songs as The Voices of Spring and Gern hab' ich die Frau'n geküßt, as well as the catchy melodies of Ob blond, ob braun and Komm mit nach Varasdin. And you can't help but be deeply moved by the haunting melodies of Franz Lehár's Wolgalied and Kálmán 's Komm Zigany.

If you have not yet done so, now is the time to purchase these three volumes of operatic masterpieces which you can enjoy for many long hours of relaxing entertainment. And remember: If there are music lovers on your Christmas list, this is the perfect gift for them!

A superlative collection of music & song for any lover of Viennese music. It includes the words to many songs that people hum, but these songs are even more wonderful if you know the marvelous words! They are clever, sentimental, and delicious! They're also in the original German and in good English translations. We bought our copy of Volume III in Vienna a few weeks ago and were delighted to find that Volumes I and II are available from Amazon.com for a song--so we've just ordered them! The performances by young artists and the recordings match the great content!

With the release of Take Back the Universe and Give Me Yesterday, San Francisco's indie-rock darlings Creeper Lagoon take a large directional leap into the mainstream alternative realm of full harmonies and slick production. Under the Tracks rocks.......2007-02-01

The song "Under the Tracks" is a standout perfect pop song, from O.C movie. It's a very happy song, it would be a good choice for a Hollywood cigarette theme, if cigarette ad were allowed in Brazil.

The other songs are forgettable, but are some OK songs, like the slower "Here We Are" and "Cellophane" and the upbeat "Wrecking Ball".

Some reference in Internet are assigning "Under the Tracks" to Coldplay. No chances.

Excellent Indie Rock.......2006-01-22

I've always had a couple random songs by these guys on my computer (Wrecking Ball, Under the Tracks) and loved them. I decided to finally pick this disc up recently and am very glad I did. If you are into Indie Rock that doesn't feel too Indie, then you will enjoy this disc. The songs are catchy, but don't ever cross the line into cheesy radio-type rock crap. The vocals are solid and the musicianship tight. If you're into some good chill stuff I would give this disc a spin.

This album shoulda been huge.......2004-06-30

On this album Creeper Lagoon unleashed a huge sound that more than fulfilled the promise of their debut. Big soaring guitars and catchy tunes that actually have something going on below the surface. I can't figure out why this wasn't all over the radio and didn't sell a million copies. Not that I wanted everybody running around in Creeper Lagoon shirts, but they deserved better. I know they're still around in a different form, but it just isn't like it was on this album. Ian (the ex-lead singers) new band On the Speakers is really good though, and if you miss what he added to the band check them out. They only have an ep out now, but it's got some great catchy stuff on it that's very reminiscent of Creeper. If you never heard this album, you need to get it. I've had it since it first came out and I still listen to it nearly every week, I just can't get sick of it.

Try something new!.......2004-02-20

An unusual more sophisticated slant on punk rock. It's amazing some of the bands that make it to main stream, while ones with actual talent, like Creeper Lagoon, go largely unnoticed. Don't miss out on this one.

One of the best CD's ever released!.......2003-09-26

1/3 Guided By Voices + 1/3 Bob Mould + 1/6 U2 + 1/6 Fig Dish = Creeper Lagoon. Plain and simple, this is one of the greatest CDs ever created. If I were stranded on an island and could somehow only get my hands on one CD, this would be a strong contender for that CD. Not only is it one of the best CDs ever, it also contains "Wrecking Ball", one of the greatest songs ever written. If you have any love of indie pop rock, then I can promise you that you will fall in love with this CD from the first listen, and you will always be able to put it in without getting bored. GREAT!

Black lagoon was a compelling series, and like most good anime, the music was an integral part of that. Though I rarely noticed it while watching the series (another good sign, it meshed well with the action), hearing it by itself reminded me of its quality.

A few standout tracks (though each is worthy of its own description)-

"Red Fraction" is the opening theme to each episode, and sets the tone at a furious and fun pace that matches the series perfectly.

"Tear Drops to Earth" will forever remind me of the South China Sea as beautifully animated in the episodes as a contrast to the dirty violence of the city. If I ever manage to visit that area, it will probably be playing in my head.

"Don't stop!" is an incredibly upbeat frenetic track that I can't sit still while listening to.

"El Sol Se Recuesta" is an unexpected acoustic piece with a southern european sound, reflective and peaceful.

"Seasonal Wind" is another mixed acoustic piece, but is driving and high-spirited.

"66 Steps" will undoubtedly recall some tense/dark moments from the series to those who listen to it.

"The World of Midnight" is the distinctive and tragic requiem-style ending to the twin assassins story arc.

"Don't look behind" is the ending theme to the series, presented in two similar versions with different endings. It has a melancholy sound that will remind everyone of the episode endings, and usually also reminds me of my disappointment at the ending of the series that there were no more episodes!

It's not a perfect set; some of the music is more or less your average anime soundtrack stuff, but no one's expecting Cowboy Bebop here, and I enjoy listening to the soundtrack by itself. It's varied enough that you don't get tired of it, alternating beautiful and intriguing melodic tracks with powerful and fast-moving electronic rock sets. (It's pricey here on Amazon, but I found it much cheaper -same version, not a rip-off- elsewhere)

Though it weakens a bit towards the end, starting it with the opening theme and ending it with the ending theme was a good decision, too often OSTs have only alternate versions of the main themes, or place them at other positions within the track listing. Here the beginning is at the beginning, and the end is at the end, as it should be.

It is also balanced well, moving between "hot" and "cold" tracks (not sure how else to describe it) and also between hard-hitting and reflective tracks. In doing so it avoids the monotony that many anime soundtracks have, and is excellent for repeat listenings.

In summary, it's a well-balanced album that strongly evokes all that is best about the series. It has a wide range of styles and instruments, and has become one of my favorite soundtracks to listen to at work.

Music feels like the anime itself.......2006-12-06

I've been listening to a wide variety of anime soundtracks - this is one of the best I've listened to. Watching this series in Japanese with English subtitles, and the tunes anywhere from the opening to the credits from any episode are simply awesome. Specifically the first track entitled "Red Fraction" reminds me of "Two Hand" Revy (whom I'd tag as Angel of Destruction) while Track No. 11 which is "The World of Midnight" is simply a cold song.

Romantic Paradise.......2004-06-10

Andre Rieu's Romantic Paradise with selections including "The Godfather," "Strangers in Paradise,"The Rose," etc. is absolutely lovely. His violin brings out the best in these familiar songs. There is a second CD with the same title, with "Dances with Wolves" as the first selection, that will blow you away. I got mine in Europe. Hope it becomes available in the USA.
