Delerium's Rhys Fulber and Bill Leeb lighten up their sound on Chimera, as the darker fixations of early records like Morpheus retreat yet further into the background. After Sarah McLachlan's lovely turn on the single "Silence," and the massive success of 1997's Karma, the duo have dutifully embraced their winning combination of ethereal female vocalists and ambient dance-pop. On Chimera, the formula yields a few worthy singles, such as the limber and catchy "Love" and "Run For It" (featuring Sixpence None The Richer's Leigh Nash). And while the record too often settles for disposable, bland pop ("Touched" and "Magic," for instance), it also delivers potent hooks and moments of inspiration that will keep the band's fan base happy. --Matthew Cooke

Amazon.com essential recording

Good tenors are always in short supply, a particularly lamentable circumstance given the great demand for them in the operatic and symphonic repertoire. Thus, the advent of a good young tenor is always cause for rejoicing. A tenor of the caliber of Jose Cura--a composer, conductor and guitarist as well as a singer--is really good news. There is nothing wimpy about Cura's singing, nothing strained; he sings with baritonal beef and strong, chesty high notes. A protege of Placido Domingo, he shares some qualities with the older tenor, but is definitely an artist with something to say for himself. This is a career to watch. --Sarah Bryan Miller

1 out of 5 stars Very Bad.......2007-03-29

First of all, his voice does not suit for Puccini(I do not know what is fitting for him). If you buy this cd, you may listen the worst "Non piangere liu" "E Lucevan Stella" etc. He can not bring a little emotion. But Puccini demands it.

5 out of 5 stars Different is not always bad!.......2006-11-26

It's very interesting to read all the reviews smashing Jose Cura for his "baritone-like" voice and supposed stiff and unvaried interpretation. The first opera I ever saw was The Washington Opera's 1997 production of Samson et Dalila (I was 13) with Jose Cura and Denyce Graves. Immediately I was converted into an opera lover! (specifically an opera-goer-lover) I don't necessarily like listening to all opera, and a lot of singer's voices still annoy me, but Jose Cura's voice is different (the source of much of the controversy...). The richness and deep quality of his voice that so contrasts with most tenor's voices (which can be rather squeaky at times) is what attracts me. And you should see this man act! A refreshing experience against the stereotypical stiff opera singer standing in the middle of the stage bellowing his/her lungs out. So please, try to actually see the man before you form an unshakeable opinion. I think his voice alone is gorgeous (especially with Puccini's incomparable work!), but pared with his charisma and ability on stage, it's irresistable.

5 out of 5 stars Pay special attention to this new promise !.......2006-06-30

A talented artist, a potent and polished voice emerges to satisfy the Opera lovers all over the world.

Jose Cura is nowadays, one the most prominent figures of the Bel Canto. His charismatic presence and his timber have deserved him the best praises all over the world.

In this opportunity we may listen him singing a selection of Puccini's Arias, accompanied by Placido Domingo with the Philharmonia orchestra, a magnificent occasion to enjoy his art and impeccable timber.

2 out of 5 stars A tenor who wishes he were a baritone.......2005-12-14

I bought this CD because I love Puccini above all other composers, due to the sheer emotion that he could put into his music. I also wanted to hear Placido Domingo conduct and I'm always on the lookout for a good tenor. However, this is not the CD to buy if you're looking for a good tenor. I can't help but agree with the reviewer who gave only one star, at first Jose Cura sounds great. But after I really listened I had to change my opinion. Cura sings ridiculously heavy to be a tenor. If you listen to him with the mindset that this is a tenor it's really laughable how heavy and pressed his voice is. I was reminded of Placido Domingo (Ugh) or Franco Corelli who also depressed his larynx giving him a very baritonal sound but by the time he was in his forties, when most voices really blossom, his was declining do to the tremendous weight he sang with. Cura scoops up even to middle register notes because he is unable to start on the pitch, and has one tone to his voice (except when he goes bellow mezzo forte when he has almost no control) and very little in the way of vocal expression due to the restrictions this weight puts on the voice. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not usually an opera snob (I listen to and love Josh Groban, Russel Watson, and Andrea Bocelli), but Cura truly warranted a review. I gave it two stars because I didn't think Placido did a bad job at conducting (not the best by any means but certainly not bad) and despite everything I just said, I really like Cura's performance of Nessun Dorma (I don't get why it's weak).

5 out of 5 stars Finally, a SPINTO tenor!!!.......2005-10-14

I am SO happy that there is finally a tenor out there with the vocal power to sing over a Puccini orchestra but still keep the lyricism for the upper register! If your preference is for a sweeter, lighter sound, check out recordings of Carlo Bergonzi and Roberto Alagna. This is a voice meant for singing over large orchestras with some "muscle" in the low register and the ability to make high notes soar. (It also doesn't hurt that Sr. Cura is as gorgeous as his voice! :) )

5 out of 5 stars Another great album.......2007-01-10

Although many Delerium fans have said that this album is aweful, I have to disagree. It's among one of my favorites!

3 out of 5 stars Ecstatically Beautiful in Places.......2006-07-20

"Every time you go away
I will follow you
When you're running scared
and you hide away
I'm right beside you..."

An eclectic fusion of angelic voices and percussive elements mingle with exotic rhythms in an ecstatic dance of emotion. There is a heightening of the feelings of elation from the start as the rhythm takes off at top speed.

Love, Touched and Fallen have ecstatically beautiful moments. While there are moments on this album I skip over because they feel too heavy, the lighter textures in the songs I have found to love are especially beautiful.

Eternal Odyssey has nature sounds surrounded by world music, but the intensity seems to overwhelm the moment. Returning is also very heavily textured. My ears seem a little sensitive to their heavy beats.

"What I wouldn't give to feel the sunlight on my face
What I wouldn't give to be lost in your embrace..."

5 out of 5 stars I had no trouble ripping it with audiograbber.......2006-06-30

I'm not sure what reviewer Hank is talking about. I ripped the whole CD in less than 3 min and used LAME from within Audiograbber to make MP3s for my car MP3 player. There is nothing odd about the format of the disk. I believe that the disk is a dual format affair and has a video that you can play if you load some player. Otherwise, the audio tracks are normal, otherwise they wouldn't play in a CD player and I wouldn't have been able to rip them directly with Audiograbber.

5 out of 5 stars Another dazzled listener.......2006-12-12

All the other reviewers love this disc because it is, quite simply, dazzling. Twenty five years ago the voice of Carlo Bergonzi on a record borrowed from the library (along with those of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau) made me realize that opera was something worth listening to.... Things haven't changed. Bergonzi was among the handful of true greats and this recording does justice to his intelligent and passionate voice.

5 out of 5 stars Exquisite Music.......2005-11-15

This CD is a favorite of mine for two reasons, Bergonzi is magnificent and the Italian songs are gorgeous. Moreover, these wonderfully crafted Italian songs are arranged in a straightforward manner--the tenor sings with a piano accompaniment--which allows the listener to focus directly on the beauty of the music. Bergonzi is simply extraordinary, he has such subtle vocal control combined with real warmth. The result is refined, but lush music.

5 out of 5 stars Carlo Bergonzi - the tenor's tenor.......2005-07-28

This CD is for lovers of Italian "classical" Ballads, and is highly recommended. Most of the songs are sung by Carlo with a piano accompaniment, so don't expect to hear grand opera.

A very lovely CD

5 out of 5 stars Sheer Perfection!.......2002-09-25

This album is quite simply put, exquisite! Bergonzi shows in this collection that even late in his career he could still produce that wonderful lyric beauty he was so famous for. My favorite song on this abum Donaudy's "Vaghissima sembianza" is so perfect, so shimmering, just so very beautiful. This song is worth the price of the album itself. Bergonzi's stylings on de Curtis' "Non ti scordar di me" will send one back to the recording of Beniamino Gigli, and favorably so. Begonzi also demonstrates a musicianship on this album that is second to none. Bergonzi was truly a "class act". This is one of the most beautiful, most perfect Neapolitan collections ever. This CD is a must have for lovers of Bergonzi, for lovers of Neapolitan songs, or just lovers of perfect singing!!

5 out of 5 stars glad i came across this one!.......2002-01-18

I love this CD and recommend it to anyone who loves opera and clear, beautiful singing. The variety of songs ranges from meltingly romantic to playful and flippant. My Italian is not very good but his diction is so perfect I feel like I understand every word. Bergonzi's big, athletic voice gives the illusion of being barely under control. But of course it is under complete contol, never bellowing. John Wustman's supple, slender accompaniment is perfect, each introduction whets the listener's appetite for the song, which he then gently frames and supports. He does get to shine on "La Daza". This would be a great CD for those new to opera and is worth it for "Vaga luna" alone!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Black Metal CD's ... ever........2006-12-18

If there's anyone out there who shrugs off Mayhem, saying that they probably can't play a note and the only reason you hear about them is because of all the violence in the band's past, then I say you should have this masterpiece blasted in your ears for 666 days and nights!
Like the other reviews on this one, I agree that every member put out 120% on this recording. Every song is a classic, as far as I'm concerned. Even if you did not like Mayhem for whatever reason in the past, don't pass up owning this CD. Essential for any Black Metal fan's collection. 5 star devil-horned salute to the guys in Mayhem for making this one!

4 out of 5 stars More good stuff from Mayhem.......2006-05-29

Dating back to the early 1980's, this black metal band have a seminal but also very long, storied, and controversial career history. In 2004, after a four year silence, Mayhem returned with the fifth album of their career. And with a raw production, "Chimera" not only marked the return of Mayhem, it also marked a return to the band's corrosive and brutal style of old. From front to back, this album oozes with volume and fury, and it definitely rates an 11 on the intensity scale. These songs bristle with fiery, roaring guitars, super raspy vocals, and insanely fast blast beats. Songs such as the first track have buzzsaw guitar flurries and speed of light drumming, whereas cuts like "Rape Humanity With Pride" are bolstered by walls of propulsive guitars and Hellhammer's rapid, cracking drums, while vocalist Maniac spews tales of misanthropy from his gut. All told, this is a great comeback, and, after listening to this disc, one hopes Mayhem can keep up this level of aggression. If you're looking for some brutal black metal (probably the best brutal black metal album of this millennium), or you`re just looking for a C.D. to bring out the evil in you, "Chimera" should more than suffice.

5 out of 5 stars Surpassed Expectations.......2006-05-25

I had certain expectations when I went to purchase this. Upon the first listen, Mayhem blew that all away. Such musicianship, such ambience compared to other black metal. And the lyrics in the title track... I love the part that goes, "YOU ARE NOT DEAD! YOU NEVER EXISTED!" Now that is just awesome. From the first amazing song to the last anthem, I just can't get enough. Release another album NOW please!

5 out of 5 stars [title].......2006-05-12

Some people think the state of popular modern black metal is a bleak one, with the advent of CoF and Dimmu's unfortunate popularity. But with albums like this, Satyricon's Volcano, Immortal's Sons of Northern Darkness, and Darkthrone's The Cult is alive, all I have to say is this: Balls. Chimera is Mayhem's followup to the unjustly underrated Grand Declaration of War, and they're beginning to gravitate towards a more traditional black metal sound again. Archaic? Not really, Mayhem still know how to keep things fresh. (Or rotten, perhaps.) But even with intricate time signature changes and Hellhammer's electrifying speed, one can't deny the minimalistic underpinnings that place a clear emphasis on things like an incredibly sick and hateful bassy sound, and a sense of discordance that fluently bleeds through in crimson shades of anguish. Maniac's not quite as good as Dead, but his thin gurgle fits perfectly on Chimera. As another reviewer said, yes, he does sounds better than he did on Deathcrush. Blasphemer shreds, but very deliberately slows down to a sinister vibrato crawl that melts into a sprawling sea of loathing and disgust. Necrobutcher's uber-distorded bass guitar is finally audible, and well... Listen to Impious Leper Lord if you want to know why that's such a good thing. Groups like Emperor can find elusive beauty in the emotions defining black metal, while Mayhem takes pride in doing just the opposite: Expressing cold and ugly thoughts in cold and ugly music.

Say what you will, but Mayhem still have the chops to pull off a great and cohesive album. This is their best since Des Mysteriis...
- Thus says the Pellington

5 out of 5 stars Consistently good.......2006-03-15

From the first note to the last, Chimera is one of the best black metal releases. Containing the essential BM ingredients of hyper-fast drumming, shredding guitars, and raw vocals, this one ups the ante with solid production and a technical sensibility that showcases the bands' individual talents. Combine this with very well crafted songs and the results are a disc that doesn't just survive repeated listenings, but demands them. Highly recommended!

See my review for II=I for my Andromeda thoughts and notes. It will pretty much give you a good idea of my thoughts of any of the band's work.

This one just adds to the collection of fantastic work by the Swedish band. Original and inspired with fantastic song writing and musicianship.

Keep up the great work Andromeda!

5 out of 5 stars Worth ordering from oversees!.......2006-10-07

Nice follow up to II=I. Although I don't know if this album surpasses II=I, they once again display amazing odd time signatures, while not losing any kick. This album is a little more straight forward (no instrumental rampages quite like II=I). Fremberg's voice is certainly one of a kind and he could easily be found in a production on Broadway. The drummer, Lejon, is once again obscuring the time signatures with offbeat chops and is superb.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2006-09-17

F'ing excellent! They outdid II=I which was great itself. Great drumming. If you like Symphony X, Dream Theater, etc.. GET THIS ALBUM (get II=I at the same time)! You won't be dissapointed.

3 out of 5 stars Easy to listen to.......2005-03-15

The songs on this CD are pretty hit-or-miss, resulting in a rather patchy release from a talented pop rock band.

Chimera's sound is soft rock--melodic and layered--and makes for pleasant background music akin to bands such as The Cranberries and The Cardigans. The singer has a beautiful voice and each song features some great harmony; however, some of the songs just aren't as good as others. I feel that the CD really starts to drag toward the end, which is populated with relatively faceless songs that melt into each other, each about as good as the last (i.e. drab). Nevertheless, there are some fantastic compositions sprinkled throughout the first 3/4 of the CD such as "Catch Me" and "Night Song."

Overall, a pleasant CD if you don't pay too much attention and just let it play.

3 out of 5 stars Superb for Rainy Days; Good if you like this sort of thing.......2002-05-25

This is a nice album that bridges the divide between the Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine very nicely. Punchy without being abrasive, etherial without drifting away, it's grounded by some nice female vocals and some competent musicianship. The second half of the album lags a little bit, but the first few songs, especially "Tiago" and "Catch Me" have got some serious staying power. Chimera has a strong pop sensibility and the hidden track, a stunning cover of Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing," reminiscent of the Sunday's version of "Wild Horses," is worth the price of admission on its own.

Not exactly innovative, but still worth a listen if you like the above-mentioned bands, Mazzy Star, or some of the more mellow 4AD artists. Comparisons to the Cranberries have been made, but I don't think that really gives Chimera--a far superior band--justice.

5 out of 5 stars Early 90s soft rock at its best........2000-04-19

Luckily, I heard "Catch Me" on a compilation tape from some random record label. I immediately fell in love with Chimera and got this album. Yes, a guy can appreciate this music. Very nice guitar effects throughout the album. Don't forget the hidden track at the end of the album! It starts at 13 minutes of track 13! That is my favorite song.

4 out of 5 stars sweetly sung, beautiful pop songs with a twist.......1999-06-05

This cd has a couple of songs that i think are so radio friendly, and i am amazed that they have never been more known. I put "Catch Me" on a mix tape i made for my friend, and she told me that she kept rewinding and replaying it over and over, and she would belt it out in her car! That's how you'll feel when you hear this-you'll get the songs in your head, and you'll fall in love with the beautiful vocal style. The vocals are reminiscent of Doloris O'Riordan's of the Cranberries, with the quick shifts, almost cracksin Eileen Henry's voice, especially apparent in "All I Need." The sound can shift from sugar guitar pop to beat laden grooves("Catch Me, Blown Away"). Also of note: "Liquid Star", "Tiago"(so beatiful and sad you'll want to cry-very similar to "Night Song"), and my favorite, "2 Sunny", about lovers who want to forget about what everyone else says and live their own way-it's the happiest, catchiest, most upbeat song-just puts you in a great mood. So buy this now-cry, sing along, smile-it's a gem.

5 out of 5 stars Unique ethereal sound.......1999-05-11

It is a shame Chimera is not more widely known. Ive never heard anything quite like it. Their sound is uplifting but haunting at the same time. Not every track is the best, to be honest; a couple of them sound a little too alike. However this CD is SO worth the money if only for "Catch Me" and "Blown Away." As soon as you buy it, pop it in the CD player and listen to "Catch Me." Turn it up LOUD. The intro alone will give you chills. Then that voice hits you...

5 out of 5 stars Elegant, Lush, and Mysterious: Bill Nelson at his best........2007-02-24

Sure, its a short cd, a beautifully mastered rendering of what was not quite an LP but something more than an EP from the early 1980's. But what Chimera lacks in length, it more than makes up for in depth and richness. Its a sort of dream ensemble that includes some of Nelson's most soaring e-bow and other guitar work, complimented by the mighty yet precise Yukihiro Takahashi (from Yellow Magic Orchestra) on drums and the melodic, fretless bass of Japan's Mick Karn. Outstanding tracks include "Glow World", "Tender Is the Night", and "Every Day Feels Like Another New Drug". The addition of multiple versions of "Acceleration" seems a redundant afterthought, perhaps, but doesn't detract from the overall magic, somehow. The basics of Chimera became the backbone for the poorly pressed American LP "Vistamix" that not only sounded lousy but diluted the grandeur of the original by adding earlier tracks such as "Eros Arriving" and "Flaming Desire". Those of us who knew and loved Bill's amazing and vastly under-rated-in-the-marketplace music were already there.

5 out of 5 stars E-Bow Heaven.......2007-01-22

This album, along with The Love That Whirls, is one of my favorite Bil Nelson recordings. The graceful e-bow work along with Yukihiro Takahashi's steady drumming is so breathtakingly cool. He played as a support player for YMO on Naughty Boys but got mixed more prominently on Yukihiro's albums. Also, look for Masami Tsuchiya's Rice Music as Bill, along with Japan minus David Sylvian, back him up. More great Bill Nelson e-bow on that album. He still turns out quality music on his Sonoluxe label.

5 out of 5 stars He did it again.......2006-07-29

Chimera is futher proof of the genius of Bill Nelson. I remember hearing this back in 1983 and just being blown away yet again at the man's talent. Nelson once again demonstrates his incredible diverseness with electronic rock songs like The Real Adventure, the irresistable, Acceleration (which should have been a big hit), the funky Everyday Feels Like Another New Drug, the dreamy funk of Tender Is The Night...the guitar is exceptionally addictive in this song. It also features an oriental flavored keyboard solo. The progressive Glow World features some snakey bass playing by Mick Karn and incredible guitar solos from Nelson himself. Yukihiro Takahashi (ex YMO) is also featured on drums on certain tracks. Hard Facts From The Fiction Department wasn't originally on this album. It's a funky instrumental that features some taped samples, which Nelson was fond of using back then. I have to admit I could have done without all 3 extra versions of Acceleration but I'm still glad they were included.
I recommend getting Chimera as well as Quit Dreaming And Get On The Beam, and The Love That Whirls (Diary Of A Thinking Heart). Bill Nelson was, and still is, in a league of his own.

3 out of 5 stars hmmmm..........2006-06-23

Chimera was good it is true but it was the start of a wrong turn. Acceleration is a great single but the rest is really not up to what he had done on the three previous albums.

5 out of 5 stars Nelson on a roll.......2005-11-27

"Chimara" was actually a 6-song EP released in 1983. The songs are all first rate, with contributions from members of the Yello Magic Orchestra and others, particularly the shoulda-been-a-hit "Acceleration." The six songs on this EP appeared in the US in 1984 under the guise of a 10-track Epic LP called "Vistamix," with the remaining four tracks consisting of singles from "Quit Dreaming (And Get on the Beam)" and "The Love That Whirls (Diary of a Thinking Heart)," both of which, bless Allah, are also now available in souped up, remastered CD editions. This version is rounded out by 3 remixes of "Acceleration" and the great B-side, "Hard Facts from the Fiction Department," a hugely influential track and one of the first to make use of "found vocal samples," a technique that Nelson pioneered and brought to perfection long before everyone else and his brother. An entire book could be written on the techniques and styles that Bill Nelson pioneered, but that's another story. Buy this one, as well.

All About Jazz: Chimera - Russ Spiegel | SteepleChase Records (2007)
By Troy Collins
http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=26352

Chimera is guitarist Russ Spiegel's fourth album and first for Steeplechase. His previous releases include a rock record, a live big band recording and a mainstream date for Doublemoon (2001's Twilight). This sextet session finds him in the company of an adventurous and like-minded set of peers. Channeling the spirited energy of hard-bop with the progressive aesthetics of rock music, Spiegel carves out his own niche in the contemporary jazz scene.

Spiegel is joined by a cast of talented, but relative unknowns, including trumpeter David Smith, saxophonist Arun Luthra, vibraphonist Nick Mancini, bassist Gary Wang and drummer Anthony Pinciotti. While their names might not ring a bell now, time will tell.

Opening with the brisk Blue Note styled title track, Spiegel's fleet, clean-toned guitar and Mancini's euphonious vibes lead the way for a string of enthusiastic introductory solos. "Polychrome World" reveals a lyrical side, a moody acoustic meditation on the bossa nova form. "The Last March" follows, clocking in at over 11 minutes, demonstrating an entirely different aspect of the sextet.

Revealing his rocker past, Spiegel churns out distorted power chords and searing, single-note embers as the sextet grinds out a rubato march cadence. The rhythm section balances nuanced, conversational interaction with a surly web of forward momentum while the ensemble unleashes soloists from a collective sonic vortex. Invoking the simmering electro-acoustic fury of Miles' Filles De Kilimanjaro (Columbia, 1968) Spiegel's sextet burns bright with roiling energy.

Demonstrating his traditional chops, Spiegel reharmonizes "Cherokee" with the tricky chord changes of Coltrane's "Countdown," yielding an intense variation on the old chestnut. With empathetic interplay, the sextet stokes a monolithic groove on "Wo Bleibt Die Seele," as Spiegel's soaring guitar feedback knits to Luthra's circuitous soprano saxophone wails in seamless polyphonic unison.

Whether bouncing through the resonant optimism of "Good Night" or digging into the rambunctious collective frenzy of "Herr Boehnke," Spiegel's sextet demonstrates an all-embracing concept. Chimera is indicative of its title, a satisfying hybrid of post-modern chutzpah and traditional know-how.

Personnel: Russ Spiegel: guitar; David Smith: trumpet, flugelhorn; Arun Luthra: alto and soprano saxophones; Nick Mancini: vibraphone: Gary Wang: bass; Anthony Pinciotti: drums.

New York-based guitarist and composer Russ Spiegel releases his fourth album as leader and the first under the SteepleChase label with Chimera. Except for one standard the album features original compositions in an essentially progressive mainstream style delivering a generally up-tempo sound with sophisticated melodies and colors. Spiegel assembled a fine sextet incorporating an excellent blend of instruments. Joining the leader here are David Smith (trumpet), Arun Luthra (saxophones), Nick Mancini (vibes), Gary Wang (bass) and Anthony Pinciotti (drums).

I really enjoy listening to an album that starts off in blistering fashion as this one does with two of the best tracks setting the stage for rest of the music. The opening cut and title tune, "Chimera," begins with warm vibrations from Mancini which almost immediately explodes with phrasings from Smith's trumpet sharply engaged by Spiegel's clever chords leading to a Luthra sax solo on a superb opening number. The music only gets better with the following track "Polychrome World," a beautiful ballad style piece featuring Mancini's delicious vibraphone playing leading to a Luthra expression on the soprano as Spiegel gently joins in on one soft and mystifying melody for what is clearly best tune on the album.

The third cut, "The Last March," is not exactly one of the more memorable numbers here. This almost twelve-minute very progressive and sophisticated free style jazz sound may only appeal to the die hard aficionados. The music gets back in gear with a striking rendition and only standard on this disc of Ray Noble's "Cherokee." The album rounds out with the a dark piece in "Wo Bleibt Die Seele," the lovely slow ballad of "Good Night" featuring the trumpeter and the finale, "Herr Boehnke," another hard-driving almost fusion-like tune.

If Russ Spiegel wanted to make some sort of musical statement with this recording, I believe he succeeded. Chimera is one very special album delivering a unique sound that sets it apart from other groups. Intellectual to the core, melodic and elegant, the music will engage and challenge you at the same time. A fine session of introspective progressive jazz.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

RUSS SPIEGEL/Chimera: Back when there was a real record business, labels would sign cats like this for the prestige, or to keep others from signing them, or to have them handy if they needed a session cat to clean up a session that needed something extra. A killer guitarist that's simply welcome all over the world, Spiegel lays it down without pretense or drama and let's his clean lines and solid playing provide all the drama and dynamic tension non-smooth jazz should have, even when he's playing it light and easy. A tasty cat you should definitely get to know.
