The Nature of Narada is a jumble of instrumental tracks mined from the label's extensive catalog and stitched together to form a value-priced two-CD package with the natural world as its thematic core. The final product is a largely agreeable, not quite stellar mishmash of music selected from recordings released over 20 years. Listeners seeking a seamless bliss-out disc in the vein of Narada's popular Wilderness Collection may be disoriented by some stylistic left turns here: the improvisation in "Trees" by jazz pianist Keiko Matsui, the urban vibe of "Desert Vision" from guitarist Randy Roos, the heavily sweetened tracks from Richard Warner and Spencer Brewer. A nice 2-disc collection of intriguing, life-affirming instrumentals that are alternately upbeat and soothing. Many are in major keys, and those that are minor are wistful and restful rather than dark. There are no super-imposed nature sounds here, as the title first led me to believe, but the titles of the selections reflect the composers' focus on the natural environment. Especially winning selections are those by hammered dulcimer player Paul Reisler and his jazzy folk group Trapezoid ("Big Salmon"), shakuhachi player Kazu Matsui ("Sign of the Snow Crane"), composer Michael Whalen ("Through the Parched Lands: Desert Flower"), pianist Kostia ("Snowy River"), guitarist William Ellwood ("Touchstone"), neo-Persian cross-over ensemble Axiom of Choice ("A Walk by the Lake"), flutist Richard Warner ("Mountains in the Mist"), harp-guitarist John Doan ("Winter's Eve), and oboist Nancy Rumbel ("Delicate Balance"). All in all, a good value, good introductions to the work of over 20 artists, and a pleasant, transporting mix!

I've had a lot of music from Narada Records, but this album is by far the best single album of piano music that they have ever realeased. Every song on it is a work of beauty, and it's a great album to relax by, read, meditate, talk, or be by yourself with. It's hard to find, so be sure to grab your copy!

This album contains no less than 17 beautiful compositions for piano by some of the best Narada pianists. Perfect music to play during a candlelight dinner, or for relaxing on the back deck. As well as track-by-track information, the booklet includes some beautiful poetry by the likes of Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron and William Butler Yeats. An album for everyone who has a touch of romance in their soul.

My boyfriend bought this CD two years ago and I was touched by the music immediately. I like to listen to it when I was alone. Sometimes when i listened to it, it reminded me of some places in my home land. Sometimes when i felt frustrated it calmed me down... Really i feel the power of music from this album. I love it!

I bought this album because I have enjoyed countless Narada releases, including some Arkenstone CDs. But I didn't expect something so moving, so uplifting and so wonderful! As a classically trained musician, I enjoy hearing "real" instruments along with electronic instruments. The mixture of traditional folk instruments, orchestral instruments, vocal instruments and electronic instruments has something for everyone. The album made me smile, dance and cry. I think it's an album best listened to in its entirety, since the cuts are handsomely long. What a wonderful blend of talent!

"Precious Waters" is one of the great examples to prove the fact that great music can still be written, and that amazing composers live to this date. I think that many of the Narada Wilderness Collections are great, but this one in particular is my favorate. If you want to travel through the forests, or swim through the world's rivers, or fly with the geese, listen to the jaw-dropping music, and you'll be there in a matter of seconds. The music effects create a new atmosphere that you will experience through your ears, and your imagination. A definite recommendation!

This album was a gift from my husband who knows how finely tuned my tastes are as I am a musician also. Michael Gettel's music is so visual that I can listen to it over and over and see different pictures each time. The artistry, creativity and production of his music is non pareil.

Michael is one of the most talented pianists and composers of imaginative music that I know of. Having started with George Winston at his very beginnings (including barefoot playing at concerts), then graduating on to Michael Jones, we now follow Michael's musical genius with great interest. Several years ago, Michael performed a pro bono benefit concert for the Colorado Ski School for the Blind. "Where Eagles Soar" was performed for a number of blind skiers in the audience - and I heard from many that it gave them a special taste of what they skied down, but could not "see". Tell your friends about Michael's music, he is not afraid to take chances and has managed to survive the homogenizing influences of the record industry to create his own unique style.

        This is one of my favorite compilations ever, with many original tracks by Michael Whalen. Especially "Kingdom of the Sun," where flute and drum reminds one of the simplicity and power nature beholds together. The entire collection is of the highest quality acoustic and electronic music, assembled for a television program by the same name.
