Weezer, those geek rockers who topped mid-'90s charts with those oh-so-precious pop fables "Undone (The Sweater Song)" and "Buddy Holly," were almost undone by 1997's bombastic Pinkerton. Their sophomore release turned its back on the band's clean-cut debut, with a thrash approach more influenced by Sabbath and Kiss than the Beach Boys. On their third album (self-titled, like their first, but referred to as the "Green Album"), the band makes a concentrated effort to return to anthemic '60s punky pop, demonstrating that, for Weezer at least, it's rather easy being green. In fact, one could say they're almost as green as Green Day, especially on "Knockdown Dragout." At their best, Weezer show such boundless energy and gleeful aplomb that you'd swear you were listening to a lost Badfinger album. Conversely, Rivers Cuomo's twisted genius makes its way onto the anxious and paranoid "Hash Pipe" and the jittery "Glorious Days," making the "Green Album" the most absorbing and rounded vision from these pop masters yet. --Jaan Uhelszki

Unfairly hated; if it were any other band it would be considered a pop masterpiece.......2007-08-03
Weezer's first self titled album, also called the Blue Album, was a massive event in 90's poprock music. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing "Ooo wee ooo I look just like Buddy Holly". There were a few more singles but none had the level of popularity as that one song.
Then, 2 years later, Pinkerton came...and, from what I've read, sunk like a stone. Gone were the polished Pavement sounds, and everywhere you looked there was nothing but misery & heartbreak, self loathing & self depreciative humor. It was not a success in any respect.
Rivers dumped everything he had into Pinkerton, and it shows a great deal, so when basically everyone took a dump on the album it didn't bring about any particularly positive results.
But between the time of it's release Pinkerton developed a cult following. People got it, eventually, it just took them a while to realize there was no In the Garage to be found.
It took another 5 years of members leaving & Rivers' nervous breakdowns and eccentric tendencies to see another Weezer album.
So, most likely expecting another emotionally raw & revealing album like Pinkerton, I can understand the backlash that this album got from people who absolutely dore the album prior to the Green one.
But, if looked at from the perspective of "well, it's a new album, not a continuation of another." it's a fantastically catchy, witty album, full of memorable songs, and barely any, if any at all, filler.
Maybe River was scared to death of releasing another Pinkerton, to have everyone say "Hey, you know that album you gave everything to? it blows, writer another Buddy Holly." that brought this album about, who knows?
I mean, this album was a success, more or less, and then the next album, although it had a few singles, went completely unnoticed, and is actually my 2nd favorite Weezer album.
;afjkasdpofjsd.......2007-08-03
i like weezer alright but hash pipe and island in the sun were the only two songs i liked on this entirely too short album. the rest sounded like filler to me. their blue album was better.
Beware of CD errors.......2007-06-27
Hash Pipe is occasionally mis-burned on copies of the Green Album so when you get your copy, make sure Hash Pipe is greater than 3 minutes long. Otherwise...talk about a brilliant album.
Joyous Little Record. .......2007-06-19
I've had this CD for several years and am only now taking the time to mention it but the Green Album is an even and invigorating release. It's short but it raises your blood pressure a little bit with every listen. I find it arousing and elevating which are emotions that all of us can use in the course of the day. I'd have to rate it slightly ahead of Maladroit on the Weezer scale--a good buy.
Nice, but the synapses are already there.......2006-08-12
Weezer know what you like because you have heard it before. I guess in a way I would give this 3 1/2 stars. It really is just a continuation of their debut. They could package the two discs together and you really wouldn't be able to tell they were done 7 years apart.
You get it with the first listening, instantly enjoyable. But that often means it will get old fast and this one does. They take the best of power pop and they do it well. I can't recommend the disc as a whole but there are some songs worth downloading.

A dozen gem-Stones.......2007-02-14
BIG HITS (High Tide And Green Grass) is a solid distillation of the Rolling Stones' first few years. The album is heavy with hits, and stands the test of time-- a real tribute to one of the greatest bands ever.
Highly recommended!
Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass).......2006-07-27
This is one of the best CDs that I own. It brings back alot of memories and I love every song on it. I highly recommend buying it.
Every Song a Diamond.......2006-06-11
Everybody loves "Satisfaction" who can't get enough of that song? But for me, my favorite song on this record is "Heart of Stone." Of course, I love the last two slow ones too. I love all the songs in between as well. Most of the songs on this excellent compilation were written by Mick and Keith and playing them, you can see what really great song writers they were (and still are). These songs are all diamonds, glowing in a fire, especially the very beautiful "As Tears Go Bye." You can never go wrong with the Rolling Stones, that's for sure.
Play it Loud, but Turn it Down Toward the End.......2006-06-11
Every time I play this record I find myself reaching for the volume knob on my old, but still great McIntosh tube amp. Each song I seem to play a just a little louder than the last, till by the time I get to the Stones rockin' version of Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" the JBL speakers I inherited from my parents, when they retired and bought one of those Bounder motor homes, are blowing the house down. I generally turn it down after "Fade Away" preferring to sort of mellow out during the band's gorgeous song "Good Times, Bad Times" and the very excellent "Play with Fire." Yeah, that's the way you should play this record, Play it Loud, but Turn it Down Toward the End.
Satisfaction Still Guaranteed.......2006-06-11
This record was put together with songs that were on the British version of past records, B sides and a couple knock down, drag out hits. By the time this record came out the Stones had taken the world by Storm. Girls were screaming at their concerts, guys too, I'm told. But then how can you possible hold it in when Mick's on stage shouting out "Satisfaction." Boy I know I'd've been a screaming, wetting my panties too. "Big Hits" opens with "Satisfaction," ends with "Play with Fire" and every song between is a gem, especially their cover of Bobby Womack's "It's All Over Now." I've said it before, I'll say it again, you can't go wrong with the Rolling Stones, they come with Satisfaction Guaranteed.

Wrongs righted.......2007-05-27
There have been compilations before of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, the band he formed after leaving John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, but this latest one puts right most of the wrongs and omissions of those.
Everything you expect is here including Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 in its full 9 minute glory and without fading out in the middle, where you had to turn over the single, as previous collected versions had; and the previously unreleased US Version of Need Your Love So Bad, which is a superb extended six minute piece, with strings arranged by Mickey Baker (who played guitar on Little Willie John's original). Stop Messin' Round was on the flipside of Need Your Love So Bad, but it is here in the slighter shorter version used on the album Mr. Wonderful.
The towering magnificence of The Green Manalishi is also re-established by its inclusion. The compilation ends with a token track by Chicken Shack, because of Christine McVie's involvement with the band, and the then-recent hit remix of Albatross by Chris Coco, both of which I could have done without in this particular context, perhaps replaced by their first single, Rambling Pony/I Believe My Time Ain't Long.

The late '70s found Bonnie Raitt casting about for a new musical direction. Ironically, she found it on 1982's Green Light by going back to the basics. The album finds her using her road musicians, the Bump Band (including former Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan) and handling most of the guitar chores herself, resulting in a confident, high-energy set. The hard-charging "Willy Wontcha" rocks with abandon, as do Raitt's covers of a pair of NRBQ tunes, "Me and the Boys" and "Green Lights." There's also a Bob Dylan track, "Let's Keep It Between Us" and a little easy-in-the-islands charm, courtesy of Eddy Grant's "Baby Come Back." --Daniel Durchholz
Album Description
Rhino/Warner Bros. digital remaster of 1982 release. Features 'River Of Tears', 'Me And The Boys' & 'Baby Come Back'.

License and registration, Ma'am..........2006-10-12
Pedal down and drivin' hard, Bonnie knows how to rock and roll, too. Some hard-core fans saw 'Home Plate' and 'Green Light' as too commercial. (These are the same people who booed Dylan's electric guitar...) Throughout her career, she's done what she wants and if that honesty coincided with some more accessible music, I sure don't begrudge her. I think Sippie Wallace would approve...
Awesome (but little known) Bonnie Raitt Album.......2006-04-02
This has always been one of my favourite Bonnie Raitt albums! I'm so glad it finally came out on CD. "Keep This Heart In Mind" is in my opinion one of her best songs.
GO!.......2005-12-30
Bonnie Raitt is great and this is her best record. Get it and enjoy.
Great Bonnie Raitt Album.......2005-10-05
GREEN LIGHT is a great Bonnie Raitt CD. The songs are all great, with a couple of exceptions. Among highlights are the Lowell George memorial "River Of Dreams"; the rockers "Willya Wontcha" and "I Can't Help Myself"; and the NRBQ cover "Me And The Boys." Raitt's belief that the youg Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 for drug-smuggling was unjustly convicted makes GREEN LIGHT an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
Bonnie rocks those blues away.......2004-03-08
This album is predominately an up-tempo rocking album - it never slows below mid-tempo - although Bonnie's roots in blues music are still in evidence. This was the first Bonnie Raitt album I ever bought and is still my favorite among those I've heard. Apparently, the musicians used on this album were the ones that backed her on tour at the time rather than studio musicians.
Bonnie found some great songs here by noted songwriters such as Eric Kaz (River of tears) and Bob Dylan (Let's keep it between us, one of his more obscure but still excellent songs). Two songs were written by Terry Adams of NRBQ - the title track and Me and the boys.
To my ears, the standout track is Baby come back, perhaps because I was already familiar with the song even before Bonnie started her long and distinguished career. Eddy Grant wrote this song in the sixties, when he was lead singer of the Equals. Their original version of the song went all the way to number one in the UK charts in 1968. Bonnie's cover is faithful to the original but equally brilliant.
I love to hear Bonnie sing the blues but this album shows that Bonnie could rock too. It may not be typical, but it's great entertainment.

The music BEGS for the listener to interact........2007-04-08
I was lucky enough to buy this on cassette from Dr. Strange Records for only $0.25, which is outrageously low, especially for how great a recording this is. This recording has Skankin' Pickle covering thier favorite songs and bands, and adding thier own ska-influenced touch. Covers include: Bad Brains' Paid to Cum, Violent Love by Oingo Boingo, Don't Care by Stewart Copeland (drummer for The Police), Gorilla Biscuits' Start Today, Gates of Steel by Devo, and Bad Manners' Special Brew.
The recording shows a good range of style, from the ska you'd expect on songs like Gas In My Car; a slightly more rocksteady-ish sound on I Don't Care; or on a few songs that sound much more hardcore influenced above anything else.
But even with all those sounds, the music is something that makes you want to move, be it dance or just thrash around. And it makes you want to sing along with friends or driving down the road.
The music is fantastic, and a good introduction to the music of Skankin' Pickle, and in many cases, other older bands you may not listen to. I'd personally recommend it, but also ask that you check out Dr. Strange Records first - it's probably cheaper.
Good cd .......2005-06-16
This is a real good cd the only reason I didnt give this cd 5 stars is because I dont like the song my hair, but you need this cd!
...Pretty good.......2004-11-01
Actually, I liked the previous version of this album better, the demo copy. It sounds a little more rough.
Last one with Mr. Bruce Lee.......2003-10-07
The band got a call from Dr. Strange Records asking if they'd record some stuff for an EP. The album became an LP with the addition of a few songs. Recorded for under $800, each band member picked a few songs to 'cover' and made that song their own. Devlin, Devo, Gorilla Biscuits (for the hXc fans), Klark Kent, Knackstedt, Bad Brains, Bad Manners and Oingo Boingo are covered on here in a ska-style. Bruce left the band after this to do his own thing. It's cool enough that the album cover is pure green. But, this album really rocks.
Not Their Best...........2000-01-10
I got this album not that long ago and i think that it is an o.k album. The first track'Gas In My Car' is amazing and so is the cover of Bad Manners 'Special Brew' it is a covers album with a couple of their own songs but it could of been better....

Noteworthy for the first album appearance of "19th Nervous Breakdown" and the hit version of "Time Is on My Side," this first collection in a long line of Rolling Stones retrospectives collects the early singles of a band that was slowly and surely becoming the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band. They're hungry here and they churn out a scruffy version of the Buddy Holly hit "Not Fade Away" as well as their own compositions ("(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Get Off of My Cloud"). Their ability to work ballads into their rough-hewn repertoire is apparent ("Play with Fire" and "As Tears Go By") and Jagger's persona as the devil incarnate is taking shape. --Rob O'Connor
Customer Reviews:
Probably genius in its day, but totally obselete now.......2007-05-16
For those looking to start a Rolling Stones collection (as rock fan should): DON'T GO HERE. The first of many Stones compilations? Yes. But all that does is make it completely obselete. You can get most this album on the far-better Hot Rocks: while it's missing two key songs (Tell Me; The Last Time) that show up here, those two can easily be found on England's Newest Hitmakers and Out of Our Heads, respectively - those are both worth picking up in the first place. The only surprise is Good Times, Bad Times, which in truth didn't belong here and could've been shunted in favor of The Little Red Rooster, which so happened to be a UK #1. Yeah, there's (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Time Is on My Side, As Tears Go By, The Last Time, Play with Fire, Heart of Stone, Tell Me, Get Off of My Cloud and numerous other goodies, but those can be found on better, more coherent compilations that were later released. Now, in its day this was probably a pretty big hit, since it did contain a BUNCH of awesome Rolling Stones hits in one place. But these days it's not really worth getting for any reason other than nostalgia.
All These Songs Shine so Bright.......2006-06-11
Everybody loves "Satisfaction" who can't get enough of that song? But for me, my favorite song on this record is "Heart of Stone." Of course, I love the last two slow ones too. I love all the songs in between as well. Most of the songs on this excellent compilation were written by Mick and Keith and playing them, you can see what really great song writers they were (and still are). These songs are all diamonds, glowing in a fire, especially the very beautiful "As Tears Go Bye." You can never go wrong with the Rolling Stones, that's for sure.

The Blue Horizon box distilled to one disc..........2007-03-04
...and kudos to Sony UK for having done such a fine job. While the 6 CD box The Complete Blue Horizon Sessions 1967-1969 contains the complete contents of the albums Fleetwood Mac, Mr. Wonderful, The Pious Bird of Good Omen, Blues Jam in Chicago (alternately known as Blues Jam at Chess and Fleetwood Mac in Chicago 1969) and The Original Fleetwood Mac, this compilation goes beyond those albums to Then Play On ("Oh Well," here broken up into two tracks, the A- and B-sides of the single; and "Rattlesnake Shake") and the band's Immediate singles "Man of the World" and "The Green Manalishi" (one of my favourite tracks of the Peter Green lineup), plus adding Chicken Shack's recording of "I'd Rather Go Blind" (pointing the way towards the later lineups of Fleetwood Mac, with Christine McVie) and a remix of "Albatross." I rather felt that remix to be unnecessary--nice, but unnecessary. I agree with other reviewers that other tracks could have been included instead, but there you go.
Either way, you finally have the tracks from Then Play On without massive amounts of tape hiss (such as is audible throughout the whole of that CD, a situation Warners has yet to rectify, 20 years on), plus a whole series of thoroughly essential tracks from this first (and IMO, best) edition of Fleetwood Mac, all together on one disc. The only other way to manage this is to buy the individual albums--thankfully, all are in print and available on CD--and create your own mix at home, something not all of us have time to do. Again I say, kudos to Sony for pulling this particular feat off.
Now when the day goes to sleep and the full moon looks...................2006-09-17
Since other reviewers have already addressed the casual and curious fans of the original Fleetwood Mac, let me speak to those of you who are more serious followers of the genius of Peter Green that now find yourselves on the rocky road of foraging through the many repackaged recordings of the early band.
First and foremost:
this disc represents the one and only place you will find tracks from the Mac's labels; BLUE HORIZON, WARNERS /REPRISE and their intermittent shortlived stint with the doomed English label, IMMEDIATE all in one place.
Most of these songs have appeared in sometimes differing versions on other compilations, but these are the final studio mixes. AND digitally remastered for the first time! Thank you, Sony International.
I'd begun to think Green's final mixes of the two songs from the IMMEDIATE sessions(Man Of the World, Green Manalishi) would never make it to disc. Well, here they are.
Yes, there should of been a couple of tracks here that aren't;Love That Burns(Blue Horizon)Before the Beginning, ShowBiz Blues(Reprise) but alas! the Jeremy Spencer material is kept to a minimum and Danny Kirwan has just two cuts(the splendid blues track, Something Inside Of Me and the rare, interesting Dragonfly)so, I won't complain.
Nothing from the Live in Boston series(Jumping at Shadows)appears here but that no doubt, is due to another licensing snafu with the owner of those tapes(SNAPPER MUSIC?)
In any case, these tracks are pristine sounding remasters and the fact that Sony put up the $$$ to compile these recordings from the various labels is a good sign for the future. For a huge fan of Peter Green like me(you?), just having Man of the World and especially Green Manalishi here in their final mixes(my old vinyl copy is toast), is enough to purchase the disc.
Some Reservations.......2006-07-24
This is an interesting compilation, but is marred by some bizzare choices of material. There are at least two glaring omissions - for some reason that I can't comprehend, two of Green's most beautiful, haunting and personal songs, "Jumping at Shadows" and "Show-Biz Blues," are omitted. If the last two tracks had been dropped, these could easily have been included.
It's not clear to me where this set is directed. Fans of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac will already own most of this material, and novices would be much better served by picking up the classic "Then Play On" and disc one of the three "Live in Boston" discs on Snapper (and then following up with the next two).
This seems to me to be a missed opportunity - only three stars, I'm afraid.
British Blues Genius.......2006-03-25
A superb compilation and excellent recording .... having not heard some of these classics for decades...its like meeting up with old dear friend...fantastic.....heaven on a disc !
Neat and tidy starter set!.......2005-12-07
I was quite throughly impressed upon my first listen to this set, considering there has never really been a comprehensive single disc set featuring the mark I line-up of the band. Bascially, it's a single disc comp of the Blue Horizon box set, but has some nice single mixes and some nice bonus materials. Enjoy the US version of "Need Your Love So Bad," as well as the blistering "Shake Your Moneymaker." Included as well is the epic (read: SEVEN MINUTE) "Albatross" consisting of both parts of the double sided single. Loved my first taste of Chicken Shack with Christine Perfect doing "I Would Rather Go Blind," which inspired me to buy more Chicken Shack. Plus, the fantastic version of Chris Coco's remix of "Albatross." You get a kind of "bookend" of their storied career. If you further enjoy Peter Green, check out his solo catalogue and his Splinter stuff. Otherwise, this set rocks!

A 24/7 compilation.......2007-03-17
I have had this CD for several years and it is, hands down, my favorite album. From the soaring "Theme for Earth Day," to the top-tapping, sing-along "This Land is Your Land," to the swelling cresendos of "Make Our Garden Grow" and the melancholy of "The Green Leaves of Summer," the music inspires, the arrangements stir the spirit and the Boston Pops Orchestra delivers superb performances. My only complaint is (at least on my CD) there are some inconsistencies in recording, so I have to adjust the sound to match the intensity of the arrangement. Still, I love this CD.
A superb collection of songs, well played and sung........1999-05-01
John Williams' renditions of these marvelous works are truly inspiring. The Theme for Earth Day; Shenandoah; Deep River; Make Our Garden Grow and The Promise of Living are particularly poignant. The work of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus in some numbers is a perfect counterpoint to the swelling strains that Williams brings from the Boston Pops. Driving through dramatic landscape such as the Blue Ridge with this CD at concert volume makes such an experience something to remember.
