Crossing the Line
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
At times elegantly sensual, often energetically upbeat with a decidedly modern feeling, Crossing the Line is a soothing and exciting exploration of mood, melody, and rhythm that somehow manages to be relaxing and energizing simultaneously. John Polito's debut instrumental album is a marriage of traditional classical training and an instinctive feel for melodic jazz, enriched and enlivened by cross-cultural influences and global awareness. A union of tranquil and euphoric moods, contemporary jazz and other complementary genres, traditional background and improvisational instinct, Crossing the Line is quite a journey; like any maiden voyage into new territory, it will leave you breathless, but ultimately at home.

Customer Reviews:
They're as great in person as they are on CD.......2005-06-16
Over the years, I've come across many bands and artists that are extremely talented - on the cd, that is, but not live. However, Buddahead is not one of them. I've seen them in person live at a small cafe here in Philadelphia and they are nothing less than amazing! After the show, my friends and I approached them and they were very friendly. Many bands who have a "cd out" are way too arrogant and self-centered to even talk to fans like me and like I said, Buddahead's not one of them. If you have the time, check them out on Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/buddahead) and go to one of their live shows! The one I went to was free, but even if there was a fee, it would've been worth it.
Outstanding!.......2005-05-21
Anyone who is interested in this album and is not sure whether to buy it or not: You have to buy it! You won't regret it. Raman aka Buddahead is an outstanding artist, as well as his band. They are on their road to becoming one of the best well known bands out there. Buddahead's voice is strong, energetic, and filled with deep emotion, and the lyrics are amazing. I've had the pleasure to see him perform live, and trust me, it's a rewarding experience. BUY IT! BUY IT! You don't know what you're missing out!
Wow!.......2004-08-09
Mind blowing. Absolutely beautiful! What a voice?! What music!! Check it out everyone, you don't know what you're missing!I am UK based and bought my copy from this site a couple of weeks ago. I haven't stopped listening and already know all the songs for a good hearty sing-along!
Absolutely Brilliant!!!.......2004-06-05
This is without a doubt one of the best pop rock albums ever put out. There is something sooooooo comfortable, yet deliciously inventive about these well-crafted, multi-faceted songs. The vocals are superb. The instrumentation flawless. You'll certainly find yourself singing along to some tunes, while at other times getting lost in thought and wondering how you managed to survive this long without the wonderfulness that is Buddahead.
Do yourself a solid and pick this up immediately.
Amazing group.......2004-06-02
I haven't bought this CD yet but I will soon, promise. So far I have the group's demos and have heard most of the songs on this disk, and I must say that Buddahead totally rocks. Really beautiful sounds and melodies, and absolutely amazing onstage. I'm glad I got to see them in as intimate a setting as The Quiet Storm in Pittsburgh last fall. It was certainly a memorable, special experience.

Album Description
A delicious blend of mellow, old-school Jazz and Rhythm & Blues in a contemporary format that truly blurs the lines between the genres. Earthy, honest and eloquent, the songs carry on in the tradition of the greats such as Marvin Gaye and Jon Lucien with a just a touch of blues mixed in.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome album!.......2004-05-29
How can you get enough of this amazing album? Bearde's voice is a combination of sensuous and penetrating--why have we not heard more from him?
I shared one of the songs (Miracle Lover) with a friend in Paris, who asked me to send more! So I am sending a copy to her.
Worth its weight, worth the wait!.......2003-05-02
CORRECTION: My apologies to anyone who saw my previous "star" rating for this CD; I ACCIDENTALLY gave it only two stars. I definitely meant to give it FIVE. So, here is the correction, and my comment, now that I've had a couple of weeks more to listen to it, is that it is SUPERB! It has tracks that remind me, of course, of Bill Withers and Jon Lucien. But, I also hear a little Luther, and the Whispers, and - I don't know, maybe even some James Moody or Billy Eckstine. There are that many styles on this CD.
It actually took me over three years to get my hands on this CD. I first started paying attention to it around 1999, which was kind of late to look for it in record stores - so I couldn't find it. After a while, I stopped looking, until recently when I was having heavy thoughts about that special lady it always reminded me of. I was looking for a Masekela CD on Amazon.com, when I decided: "hey, why not take another shot at Nicolas Bearde" and there it was. I bought it immediately, received it fast, and I can't stop playing it. I alternate between putting different songs on repeat mode - so many beautifully inspiring numbers to listen to. It was well worth the wait and the price.
Pleasingly Soulful.......2002-07-04
What a great way to start any session! Soulful stirrings of yester-year. Love inspiring songs geared to the ears of true connoisseurs of excellent music! What a musical treat for us old school folks! If your're looking for smooth, silky stylistic impressions, look no further. Put this on, sit back and visualize!
THE BOMB JAZZ C.D. OF THIS DECADE ACCORDING TO ME.......2001-05-21
HELLO PEOPLE I HOPE YOU BUY THIS C.D. BECAUSE ITS ONE OF THE BEST JAZZ C.D.'S I HAVE HEARD AND ON MY SHELF

Soul for soul conoisseurs.......1999-04-25
Quality music and probably one of the best albums of mid-tempo soul out now. Original words with real musicians moving away from stereotypical sound which so much infiltrates soul music. A definite must for the real connoisseurs. You will not be disappointed.

Album Description
Crossing The Line is a labor of love. It's about two guys having fun, adding totally free improvistions between several selections. Larry Combs and Eddie Daniels are legendary masters of their craft. Combs, aside from being one of the best orchestral clarinetists in the world, is a fine jazz player. He played with Chuck Mangione before joining the Chicago Symphony.
From "Ponchielli," (featuring the Chicago String Quintet) and the Pleyel duets to Gordon Goodwin's "Leblanc Suite" and William O. Smith's "Jazz Fantasy" this is a serious musical joyride!
Customer Reviews:
GREAT BUY!.......2005-06-24
I recently met Eddie Daniels and Larry Combs at the Oklahoma University Clarinet Symposium and WOW! They are both amazing characters at what they do. First off, Larry Combs is a classical clarinetist who has been Principle Clarinet in the Chicago Symphony since the early 70's. Eddie Daneils is a Jazz Clarinet player, but yet he still plays classical just as well as Larry Combs. Well, Larry and Eddie met eachother at a Clarinet Convention MANY years ago, and since then they have been great friends. These people are LEGENDARY! They will be in the clarinet recording archives probably until the day I die, which will be a looong time. This album is worth the the money, I suggest it for anyone who is a fan of EITHER or BOTH of these fabulous clarinetists. The Duos by Ignaz Pleytel are phenominol! They are beautiful! And whats even funnier is they play noodles, which is unedited made up on the spot music, which makes the whole experience even more interesting because they just follow each other with whatever they can come up with on the spot. Buy this album if you are a clarinetist, you won't regret it!

Customer Reviews:
from Solo Piano Publications.......2001-08-29
John Polito's debut recording is a fascinating blend of musical genres, mixing jazz, Latin, new age, and classical styles into a complex portrait of what promises to be an important emerging artist. Backed by an impressive ensemble that includes Doug Lunn on bass, Ramiro Belgardt on cello, and Charlie Bisharat on violin (only one track, darn it!) John Polito's composing and playing ranges are amazing. "Euphoria" and "Aurora Alegre" will have you up and dancing, while the gorgeous "Union" and "Heaven Knows" will elicit gentle sighs. I often find that albums I like immediately wear thin after a few listens, but this one just keeps getting better. The music is immediately accessible, but complex enough to keep unfolding as you get deeper into the music. My favorite pieces are those with Polito's piano and Ramiro Belgardt's cello. "Union" and "Heaven Knows" are in a classical/new agey style. Cello and piano is such a sensuous combination, and these two pieces bring out the best of both instruments and their expressiveness. The album is worth the price for these two songs alone, but the rest of the album is also great! "Time and Space" is almost ambient in the floating feel of Polito's piano and synth. Belgardt enters with his soulful cello, giving the piece a smooth and soothing solidity. "Aurora Alegre" is the most "Latin" of this collection, and is a toe-tapper. Charlie Bisharat gives his signature violin playing to "In Motion", probably the most abstract of the pieces. Very free, with an improvised feeling, this would be a great piece to see performed live. "Walk in the Clouds" reminds me a bit of Suzanne Ciani, who gave her endorsement for this CD. "Home" is a gentle, cozy piano solo that closes the CD in a very peaceful way. Highly recommended!
Amazing.......2000-09-22
If you like David Benoit, you'll love this CD. It's very classy contemporary jazz. Every song has a different mood, and each one is amazing. There is not one song that is less than astonishing, which is pretty unusual. This CD is really great to listen to when you want to relax or be inspired.
Awesome.......2000-06-25
This CD provides great listening music for all ages. It has enough different flavors of music on one disc, that you don't get bored listening to the same type of songs. This CD can make you stand up and dance and also make you sit back and enjoy the soft sounds with your friends or over a candle light dinner with your significant other. Anyway you look at it, it is absolutely awesome, there's not much more I can say.

Album Description
ASIA MINOR is a French Progressive rock band, led by two Turkish students, settled in Paris: Setrak BAKIREL (Vocals, bass & guitar), and Eril TEKELI (Flute, bass & guitar). Their music reveal influences such as KING CRIMSON's "In The Court Of The Crimson King", JETHRO TULL's "Stand Up", FOCUS, or JADE WARRIOR's first albums. Their brilliant Progressive rock is deeply mixed with rythms and atmospheres from traditional Turkey's music. "Crossing The Line" (1979) and "Between Flesh And Divine" (1981) are generally considered as one of the best international success for the genre. Beautiful themes, strong and original, are intricated with subtle arrangements, enhanced by a nostalgic and soulful singing. Flute's nervous and airy parts underline guitar's raucous or lyrical notes. A melancholic and sometimes furious music, with texts mainly written in English (And Turkish sometimes). To be rediscovered !

Big Scottish cliche.......2005-09-15
Boy, was this movie by the numbers. Liams character was a pussy most of the time. Cutty (his boxing opponent) was far too stoic considering he was thoroughly screwed by the end of the film. The "bad" guy acted really, really, badly. He was like some confused game show host. The end of the movie sucked really badly, too. The movie might have been salvaged if Liams character had used his loot to bribe an army of drug crazed Columbians to besiege the "bad guys" faux castle, force him to OD on his coke, then celebrate with all of the deprived local townspeople in a drug crazed orgy. Instead the film ended with Liams character being celebrated as some half-ass, soon to be deceased, loser "hero". I hated this movie.
Graced By A Nobel Actor.......2005-07-28
Liam Neeson is, above all, a brilliant performer. He dominates every scene that he appears in. Truly a living legend!
The Big Mang.......2004-01-23
This was a good movie starring Liam Neeson, and Val Kilmer's wife who also starred in Willo as Sorcia. Sorry, don't remember her name.
Neeson is an out of work miner in Scotland who cannot get another job due to his criminal/political record. His so-called "friend" introduces him to a business "gentleman" and they convince him to participate in an illegal bare-knuckle fight for money. Neeson believes the money is worth it when he gets an advance on his pay but his wife doesn't trust where the money came from and takes the kids to her parent's house leaving Neeson in the care of his so-called friend and the business "gentleman".
What you shall witness must be the bloodiest, brutal fight ever shown in a movie due to the superb makeup job and camera angles. There's nothing flashy or glorious about this fight. The sound effects and everything looks very real. Hell, I even started to feel nervous for Neeson as he's walking down the corridor to the fight due to the music. You may even feel sorry for the dirty Cutty (Neeson's opponent) once you see the damage he sustains, as they both take an enormous amount of punishment from eachother. If you'd just like to see what the fight is like, you can see it on the "Ultimate Fight DVD" which should be at your local Blockbuster, but I suggest you just buy this movie instead.
There was an ulterior motive for the fight taking place, not just money either so find out the true reason and if Neeson gets his wife and kids back. Give the movie a try
Bare-knuckled ROCKY.......2003-01-10
I knew Liam could act but boy can he fight (he actually did fight in his pre-acting days--that's where he got the broken nose). This movie is about a mobster who hears about the 'Big Man', Danny Schuler (Neeson) who has a reputation for being a fierce competitor. Danny is a redundant Scottish mine worker who accepts the money for fighting bare-knuckled for the mobster. If you have never seen a bare-knuckle fight, it is much more brutal than one fought with gloves. Be prepared to see lots of blood! After the big fight, Danny finally makes some good choices--I especially like the scene when Schuler visits his opponent in the hospital and does the 'right thing'. Liam Neeson is a born actor and this movie shows how good he was even early in his career. Try it!

Album Description
Garr Lange's new CD on Sentry Records, "Crossing the Line", is an artistically and skillfully woven collection of twelve songs that is powerful in content and performance. His unique and soulful styling, grounded in American roots music, will make this album a must buy for anyone looking for a new and fresh "sound". Born and raised in Washington State, Garr has come back home to launch this new direction in his career. Produced by Paul Speer in Seattle, "Crossing the Line" features some of the city's finest session artists, and may break new ground for this kind of approach in a city better known for its alternative rock.
Garr's songwriting and vocal prowess are immediate and catch the listening ear. The songs build dramatically from beginning to end, and tell stories with an honest emotion, rare in music today. His crossover approach will make this CD appeal to a wide audience. Garr Lange is a major voice with the production values and the musicianship on this album to match. "Crossing the Line" will be a force inside the industry, you watch. Listen, promote and enjoy
Customer Reviews:
One of my all-time favorite CD's.......2006-06-24
If you've never heard, or heard of Garr Lange then you're in for a real treat if you like soulful passionate songs and vocals. Garr can sing with the best of them and his songs don't all sound alike like many other artists. His styling is truly unique. I've had Crossing the Line for awhile now and it never gets old. It's one album where you can listen over and over and find something new upon each listening. His songs have a mature depth to them. So in short order, Mr. Lange is a singer/songwriter who should be at the top of the Billboard charts...if only somebody could peg his styling as this or that. That's his saving grace. He can deliver any kind of song he wants to...and does. A great artist.
Eclectic, surprising and good for the soul.......2005-03-19
Don't quite know where to place the style on this cd - is it folk? is it country? is it easy-listening? is it rock waiting to break free? Whatever it is, it was a nice surprise and the music grows on you with each new listen. The surprise last song on the cd, which isn't credited, but appears to be an off-the-cuff last minute add on is an accoustic gem with lots of heart and a great guitar riff that stays with you long after the cd ends. I found myself humming many of the tunes in the shower days after listening ... a definite good sign! Hope to see and hear more from Garr Lange with his new cd in 2005.
