Excellent transaction. Would not hesitate to buy again from this seller. Product was delivered promptly and as described.
good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27
We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13
This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.
TV themes.......2006-07-05
Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

In the short time since they grouped together a few years ago to form their sensationally successful trio, the Irish Tenors have already put out an impressive array of recordings and DVDs, including some bona fide gooseflesh-inducing live concert performances. So, if you still have the enviable pleasure of discovering these amazing vocalists--or want to turn a friend on to their musical charms--this compilation CD will do the trick nicely. It brings together such classics as "Danny Boy," "Toora Loora Looral," "Last Rose of Summer," and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" (featuring John McDermott)--all rendered with the kind of passionate, heartfelt, and harmonious crooning that is their signature style, whether they're singing as an ensemble or as highlighted soloists. And even if you have the complete Irish Tenors, this anthology includes several numbers not found on their previously released CDs. Hard to think of a sweeter treat for a fan of singing too good to ever go out of fashion. --Sarah Chin
Customer Reviews:
Irish at it's best........2007-05-07
This album is really the number two album from this trio. It is very good and well worth the investment. The five star album by The Irish Tenors would have to be Heritage. Both albums rate high in my book.
Irish Magic.......2006-08-21
This is my first CD of the Irish Tenors. And what a joy! I played it as soon as it arrived. I like the blend of their voices, the passion and enthusiasm they bring to this CD. What I find is a real treat is the words to all the songs are in the booklet.I love this CD.
Just got your Kleenex.......2005-12-25
I suggest a box of Kleenex for each person in the room when you play this CD or VHS recording. Mom won't let me play it anymore because she...well, you know what I mean.
Wonderful!.......2005-12-12
When it's cold and frightful here, I play The BOYZ!
So wonderful. So much fun.
Up here in backwash Maine, there ain't much, believe me. But these guys are great. Sincere, care about what they're doing, true artists.
Ah, to go to Ireland again. Well, not unless the price of natural gas recedes!
The Very Best of the Irish Tenors is just that!.......2005-01-22
This recording is wonderful. Ronan's "last Rose of summer" is unique, the Percy French medley shows all three in great voice, Finbar's Maggie is wonderful and the laurels have to go to Anthony for his magnificent rendition of "She moved through the fair", wow!!!!
Well worth buying.

Like its predecessor, this score to director Robert Rodriguez's sequel to the charming, surprise hit Spy Kids is something of a pastiche of spy and action film clichés. More surprisingly, the director himself is credited with writing half of the largely orchestral score, with veteran John Debney writing and collaborating on the balance. To his credit, Rodriguez is quick to point out his novice status and credit the late, great Bernard Herrmann for much of his inspiration. Herrmann fans certainly won't hear much of the master echoed here, save for the Jason and the Argonauts tribute "Skeletons"--tracks like "Spyparents" better recall the original animated Johnny Quest--but it's nonetheless a breezy concoction (played with verve by the new Texas Philharmonic ensemble) that captures much of the film's sense of childlike wonder. Film villain Alan Cumming again gets a delightful vocal turn in the spotlight on "Floop's Dream," while young star Alexa Vega sends up the Bond theme with her vocal on "Isle of Dreams." --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Best CD ever.......2003-04-07
This CD is the best one I've ever heard!!! The best song is the bonus track, Isle of Dreams.
I spy a winner!.......2003-01-27
After the success of the first score that contained several composers contributing to it, the score to Spy Kids 2 is by the director Robert Rodriguez and veteran composer John Debney. This score contains an interesting Spanish flavor throughout most of it. The Texas Philharmonic is the orchestra that was put together with the best musicians from Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston and the performance is spectacular. The action adventure tracks, such as "The Juggler" and "Magna Men" are of note here with tons of brass, kettle drums, snare drums, and a wide assortment of percussion instruments. There is some comedic music that represents the track title perfectly, such as "The Giggles" which contains a nanny-nanny boo boo style for the brass and woodwinds. "Skeletons" sounds really cool with all sorts of percussion sounds to represent and sound very much like skeletons. If I had one word to describe this score, it would be "fun". "Floop's Dream" performed by Alan Cumming sounds a little cheesy, but i'm sure suits the film. "Isle of Dreams" performed by Carmen Cortez is a rehash of "Floop's Dream", this time with electric guitars and drums to make it into a pop song. Robert Rodriguez writes in the liner notes: "I wanted the design, the storylines, even the music to feel like it was made by a child. Since my playing ability is in its infancy, I figured it would actually be an advantage for me to write the themes and at least half the score! I'm hoping that between my simple orchestrations, and his lush ones, that we ended up with a balanced score." It is indeed a balanced score. It is cool to see a director write the score to a film because, besides John Carpenter who writes the score to the movies he directs, it is pretty rare. A cool and fun score that is enjoyable from start to finish.

i thought that the soundtrack was great, and the movie was better than the second one. the part that i want though is the lyrics for the Alexa Vega song that she sings, so if anyone has em post them (thatd be awesum if u could)!!! and anyways...i highly suggest the sountrack. all the songs are great and fit well with the movie. soooo...i highly suggest it!~!~!

Thanks!.......2002-09-02
Wow! I love this spykids movie way better than the first one. I think of the first one as an introduction for the characters and the sequel is the big adventure for all the Cortezes and even more characters, like the Giggleses. We met Donnagon in the first movie, and he was the reason for the Cortez parents to go on the mission. Now we see that he has kids and we relize that he has bigger plans for the OSS. And what about Alexandra, the preisidants daughter? She is the main reason we know about the transmooker device, right? Also grandma and grandpa Cortez are joining us in this movie. I think Robert Rodregiuz did an execallent job on the sequel, Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams. ... The sequel is awesome!!!!!
Wow!.......2002-08-25
I loved the score to the first Spy Kids movie, but, like the movie itself, I am very impressed with its sequel. What impresses me the most, however, is the fact that Robert Rodriguez, the writer/director of the movie, also composed the majority of its score (talk about a triple threat). For a rookie composer, his score is one of the most entertaining that I have listened to. And his collaberation with famed composer John Debney makes it even better.
This score certainly does its film justice. It succesfully captures the film's "Jason & the Argonaut" feel, as well as reminding us why the child-spy feel of the first movie's themes was so good. It would be a mistake to miss buying this score.

Customer Reviews:
The Most Beautiful Recorded Tenor Voice?.......2005-06-22
Is any recorded, tenor, singing voice as lovely as Kenny Baker's? As a child, I often heard him during the 1930s on the Jack Benny show, but have scarcely thought of him since. Amazon.com offers him on four CDs: BABES IN TOYLAND, LOVE WALKED IN, THE STARLIT HOUR and WEILL FROM BERLIN TO BROADWAY. Over the years, I have heard the recorded voices of many tenors, mostly operatic. Their fine voices were excellently trained, often to a wider range and more difficult music. But note for note, their sound as recorded is not I think as sheerly beautiful as Kenny Baker's. A splendid, unspoiled, unstrained, natural gift, put to disciplined and tasteful use! His enunciation is remarkably clear, and his musical line, perfectly smooth. He makes each song a different story, as in the six pieces here from BABES IN TOYLAND.
My claim is easy to test. This website has CDs with excerpts for listening to the best tenors of the 20th century, including Enrico Caruso, John McCormack, Giovanni Martinelli, Beniamino Gigli, Tito Schipa, Richard Tauber, Richard Crooks, Jussi Bjoerling, Morton Downey, Mario Lanza, Giuseppe di Stefano, Nicolai Gedda, Jan Peerce, Leopold Simoneau, Fritz Wunderlich, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. Of course, the earlier the career, the greater the damage to the recorded voice from primitive technology. Heard live, who knows which voice was most beautiful? But at least we have what earlier centuries could only imagine: lasting copies of live performances. Listen to Kenny Baker's voice on tracks 2 and 8 of BABES IN TOYLAND, and then compare.
The numbers from THE RED MILL will make you want to hear more. This operetta, also composed by Victor Herbert, was first produced in 1906, three years after BABES IN TOYLAND. "Moonbeams" (well sung by Eileen Farrell) is lovely; "Because You're You" (a duet between Farrell and Felix Knight) is quite simple but surprisingly affecting. The last two are the best: "Every Day Is Ladies' Day with Me," and "In Old New York." They are patter songs, perhaps inspired by, and surely as deft, as the ones that Gilbert and Sullivan were writing two decades earlier. Both are sung by Wilbur Evans, in a rich baritone, with perfect enunciation and marvelous comic flair. Great fun!
The selections on this CD were recorded in 1944 and 1945, then released in 1946 on both 78s and 10" LPs. For this CD, they were remastered from wartime lacquered-glass originals. Baker and Evans emerge in radiant form, surely much closer to live sound than reached our family radio via AM transmission 65 years ago. The orchestral and choral sound is less attractive. Poorly miked?
Very, very truncated........2002-12-09
The scores of Victor Herbert's "Babes in Toyland" and "The Red Mill" are lovely classics, but the incomplete scores represented by this Decca Broadway remastering of its antiquated 78s are not the best reprentation. My advice: wait for the John McGlinn "Babes in Toyland" to be released. As for "The Red Mill", you'd do better to pick up the Ohio Light Opera's double-CD from Albany Records.
incomplete pleasure.......2002-11-09
Two terrible mistakes keep this from 5 stars.. BABES IN TOYLAND is not complete as they are missing the delightful IN THE TOYMAKER'S WORKSHOP. Why? In THE RED MILL they use a butchered take of EVERY DAY IS LADIES DAY WITH ME. Again, why?
John McGlinn will be out with a complete BABES soon - and there is a lot of music in it - so you may want to wait.
Finally available on CD!.......2002-08-01
Decca's 1946 album of selections from Victor Herbert's celebrated musical was a welcome addition to record libraries, covering most of the major songs plus some of the delightful dance music. The album was reissued as a ten-inch Lp in 1949. A later reissue in 1957 dropped 4 songs to fit the score on one side of a twelve-inch Lp backed by six selections from Herbert's THE RED MILL. That pairing is reproduced here but the CD contains the complete BABES IN TOYLAND program! It's nice to have it back too! Nice of Decca to give us this early Christmas present this year. But BABES IN TOYLAND is a score that enchants all year round. How strange that no other complete recording exists.
The six selections form THE RED MILL offer a nice bonus, and the selections are well sung.

Album Description
The early compositions of the internationally renowned Finnish composer, Einojuhani Rautavaara, draw on the Nordic classicism of Sibelius and Nielsen, as well as the influences of Bartók, Shostakovich and folk music. Although, during the 1960s, Rautavaara experimented with avant-garde compositional techniques, the First Piano Concerto, written in 1969 (on 8.554147), marked another significant turning point as the composer sought, in his own words, to evoke "the entire rich grandeur of the instrument." In the Second Piano Concerto of 1989, Rautavaara finds an intriguing accommodation between traditional and more radical elements. His Third Piano Concerto, written in 1998 for Vladimir Ashkenazy, is reminiscent of Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 3 in its austere beauty, while the orchestral fantasia Isle of Bliss was inspired by a poem by the Finnish national poet Aleksis Kivi, depicting the mythical concept of the island paradise.

Exploring the Rautavarra Piano Concertos.......2005-06-29
I was fascinated by the recording of Einohuhani Rautavaara's (b. 1928) first piano concerto on Naxos and was eager to hear this recording of the second and third piano concertos. The pianist, Laura Mikkola, also was featured in the first concerto, and she performs these difficult scores beautifully. She is accompanied on this CD by the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Eri Klas.
After composing his first piano concerto in 1969, Rautavaara said that he wished to capture "the entire rich grandeur of the instrument." He has done that indeed. These two concertos feature beautiful and varied writing which reveal the soul of the piano. There are lengthy passages of delicate bird-like filigree in the upper register, cascading arpeggios, passages up and down the instrument in thirds and sixths, long exciting runs, cello-like themes in the lower register of the instrument, and beautiful accompaniment to many combinations of strings, winds, brass, and percussion in the orchestra. These are outstanding contemporary pianistic works.
The second piano concerto, composed in 1989, is the more challenging of the two. Rautavarra here combines his early serialistic technique with the unique romantic voice he developed in the 1970s. His combination of serialism and romanticism reminds me of the late American composer George Rochberg. Rautavarra's music, however, is more sinuous, sensual, and mystical that Rochberg's "hard romanticism". The second concerto is in three connected movements focusing on a lengthy middle movement The work opens with piano filigree and gradually grows in intensity to include swirling runs and angry chords. The middle movement opens with a slow, blusey piano solo, followed by a deliberate walking passage for the instrument. The movement again deepens as it progresses and features percussion and trumpet calls accompaning passionate runs and chords in the piano. The finale recalls the opening movement as it begins with filigree, proceeds to a passage featuring piano clusters and runs, and then fades away. This is a challenging and rewarding work.
Rautavaara wrote his third piano concerto in 1999 for Vladimir Ashkenazy. It is a much more melodic, accessible piece with little in the way of serialism. The piano writing again predominates as the music alternates moments of quiet shimmering reflection with sections of virtuosity and passion. This work is also in three movements with a climactic and extended middle movement. The work opens with a slow theme in the lower strings. The piano part varies from big chords, to running figures accompaning the orchestra, to lyrical melodic lines. The second movement opens with the piano playing chords against a growling background in the lower strings. The music assumes a singing character followed by a more dramatic section. The finale, marked "Energico" opens with a percussive passage for the piano followed by a reflective passage with long runs for the soloist and a return of the energetic section with huge chords for the piano before a fade-away close. This work, nicknamed the "Gift of Dreams" will have an immediate appeal even to listeners who may have hesitations about passages of serialism in the second concerto.
The CD also includes a short orchestral work, "Isle of Bliss" (1996) inspired by the work of Finnish poet Alexis Kivi (1834-1872). Sibelius also set the work of Kivi and Rautavaara has composed an opera based on his life. This is a sensuous swaying work in which a lyrical opening is succeed by a variety of dramatic passages for wind soloists and percussion before the idylic opening material returns. This is a romantic, luscious score.
This CD offers the opportunity to hear unique music by a composer who has rightfully become regarded as a modern master.
More Naxos Rautavaara.......2003-12-07
If you like Rautavaara's style, it's hard to dislike any of his compositions. Each one is so distinctly his own, announced from the very first notes or the orchestral coloration. That certainly holds up here, even though the works span a few decades. The pieces are recorded and played beautifully, and this is a wonderful disc to stumble across--I don't know of any other recording of Piano Concertos No.1 & 2 still in print.
The highlight here, to me, is The Isle of Bliss, which is also available in an Ondine recording. It's a beautiful, haunting piece written at the peak of inspiration--it creates an entire world in a very short space. The piano concertos are both great, though I find them, as a whole, slightly less compelling than some of his best work--even the First Piano Concerto. The Second is a rambunctious, volatile work, full of percussion and dissonance (yet not without deeply affecting moments). It's similar in style to his Violin Concerto and Sixth Symphony. Somewhat more tame is his Third, which is a glowing, reflective piece. Like the title, it has an "autumnal" sound, and seems closer to the sound world of his Harp Concerto and Eighth Symphony.
I highly recommend this work, but remove one star since it's not his absolute best work (which isn't saying much, since his less inspired work beats most composers' masterpieces). If you don't know him well, I strongly suggest the Seventh Symphony on Naxos, which features another amazing work, Angels and Visitations. Also grab the other Naxos disc with Cantus Articus, Symphony No.3, and Piano Concerto No.1 And finally, I think the Flute Concerto on Ondine coupled with the choral masterpieces On the Last Frontier is essential.

One Truly Golden Isle (of Dreams)!.......2002-07-15
Although Alfred Apaka wasn't quite the legend say, Don Ho (and perhaps other countless names in Hawaiian music) was and (still) is/are, this collection of island favorites does justice to this late, great balladeer's all too short life and career, which ended abruptly in 1960 at age 40, due to a heart attack while playing handball. Apaka puts a unique brand of spit and polish to his vocal abilities, adding a Frank Sinatra touch to his soaring vocals in selections such as "This Song of Love (Dahil sa lyo)" - [pronounced "Da Hill Sigh Oh"], "Hawaiian Love Call", "Bali Ha'i" and on "I Wish They Didn't Mean Goodbye", including other worthwhile compositions. With such a beautiful voice on display, Alfred Apaka would have possibly reached immaculate heights had he lived, perhaps sharing equal superstar status as Mr. "Tiny Bubbles" himself - the one and only Don Ho, who's still providing top notch entertainment to his many legions of fans the world over to this day. But, as loved as Mr. Apaka was (or is), this gifted performer left behind many wonderful island musical moments for his many beloved fans to cherish. His music is fondly remembered to this day, even after four decades after his passing, which is a testament of a great performer. May Alfred Apaka's legacy live on in infamy.
