well, i'm completely agree with Mike Ventarola's editorial review. this is pure classic gothic rock, which is really hard to find in these days. not proto-punk, not techno-goth, not whatever mutant alien genre. pure.

i don't know, there's something strange about them, like there's only two possibility : you'll adore them or you'll hate them. and it's probably you'll adore them if you like ethereal vocals but if you're a manson fan, if you like screams and swearwords and angst thing just leave, right now.

similar bands are not those listed above i must warn you also. maybe die form, black tape for a blue girl, this ascension and slightly inkubus sukkubus. yes, i know they are not goth and their (her) vokal isn't ethereal but melodically i find them similar, somehow...

my favorite songs; watching from the darkest places, withches gold, last opera-like song (i can't remember the title right now and i'm just too lazy to turn back) and a magic bean.

Good, but not inspired.......2005-02-06

This CD is one of those that I got interested in after listening to some MP3 clips; I was intrigued enough to plop down my money. The CD as a whole, however, just doesn't have enough depth of inspiration to hold up. It is good, no doubt, but I can't help but feel that these two have spent a little too much time studying Siouxsie and the Banshees riffs. One can hear some Siouxsie-like vocal stylings here, a very Steven Severin-ish bass line there (unfortunately though, no Budgie-inspired quirky drumming: the drums here are unimaginitive and serve only to keep a beat). So my feeling is, if you want this type of thing, go to the group that invented it: buy Kaleidoscope by Siouxsie instead. That CD is a classic, while this one is only adequate.

Emeth's debut album sounds to me like brutal death, made carefully. Besides being an extremely devastating album, "Insidious" shows that Emeth use several resources, such as permanent bass, guitar or drums solos, plus great job in the voice. There's an excellent instrumental part in every song, and all of them have a special place in the album. "Impermanence Of Being", the first track in the album, starts with an ascending intro, as "Aeon" closes the album softly, descending from guitar riffs to clear keyboards. All the other songs remain that idea, using different tempos and riffs. At last, I'd state that "Insidious" has shown that Emeth will have a great future inside extreme metal scene, not only because of the capacity of the players, but also because it has a lot of energy, and the sound engineering was excellent for such a great job.

Definitely A Cut Above.......2007-05-13

Emeth take death metal in a serious way. These songs are composed, not merely written. Excellent, low vocal delivery compliments the music majestically. As hard and as heavy as anyone out there, the riffs remain with you after the CD has been pulled. Supreme musical precision is displayed on all instruments. Drummer simply astounds. Slow parts are just heavy and crunchy as sin, and when they let loose, it's a sick ride into dementia. Beautiful outro is worth the price alone. Something different, yet retains and respects all the elements of the roots of this crushing and unstoppable genre.
