For Lisbeth Scott, her recent Cd "Fair Skye" is a departure from the norm. Well known in the Pop/New Age world for her previous and stunning release "Dove", and for her work on Windham Hill's "State of Grace for Paul Schwartz, Lisbeth takes a different turn with the music on "Fair Skye", creating a collection of pieces meant for healing, rejuvenation and a peaceful escape to one's inner landscape. Suitable for use with yoga and meditaiton, this music truly soothes the soul. The music on "Fair Skye" was created originally for the Sacred Lens recording "Healing Light" as accompaniment to the magical and physically healing guided imagery of Dr. Jan Berlin, and is now being released on its own. Turning to her Armenian roots, much of the text on "Fair Skye" is written and sung in Armenian, a lush and passionate language that lends itself to the spiritual nature of this release. For lisbeth "Fair Skye" represents her first journey into the world that combines both healing and music, her two greatest passions. Using the rich cello stylings of Nathn Barr, the intuitive and emotional fiddle playing Gave Witcher, and the lyrically organic flute work of Darryn Songbird, Lisbeth builds a beautiful tapestry of sound, the foundation of which is her own work on piano, guitar, harmonium, and of course, voice. This CD, along with Watching the White Wheat, is consistently a top seller on the group's US tours. Solid musicianship, great passion and emotion brought into the singing. There is some instrumental work done on this disc, but it doesn't overpower the singers.

To correct Mr. Beamer's statement in his review, the KS have indeed been doing pop and all genres of music since their founding in 1968. In fact, it was the inappropriateness of singing pop and light music with the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, that led a small group to branch off and sing all genres of music, including pop, on their own time ... this leading to the founding of the King's Singers.

The King's Singers got started a few decades ago doing exclusively classical material, and most of that was pre-1700. Now, many years on, (and after several changes in the group's membership) they have long since branched out into pop and other genres.

This CD (along with another similar one, "Watching the White Wheat") really show off their UK roots, with English, Scottish, and Irish folksongs. The arrangements are mostly quite good, and all the performances are excellent. Deserving of special mention are: (on the slow, poignant side) "Annie Laurie", and "The Ash Grove". [Note: the arrangement of "Annie Laurie" heard here is different from, and I think inferior to, the arrangement they did on an old out-of-print LP called "Atlantic Bridge", where they did both Britsh and American folksongs -- that LP is Highly Recommended (if you can find it -- good luck!)]

Anyway, back to the review: on the up-tempo side, two very fun tunes are "Going to Towyn" and "Mairi's Wedding". For you singers out there, the score for the latter is available in a 3-part arrangement, and is rather easy to learn.

I bought this CD after seeing the King's Singers in concert. Everytime I listen to it, it takes me back to a magical evening, and a magical place- the British Isles. These songs are beautifully arranged and sung. I never get tired of listening to these timeless folk songs that have been weaved into the cultural fabric of America and others around the world.

The cracked, maimed, and scuffed CD case that I am looking at right now is in itself testement to the addictive qualities of this recording. I have had this CD for almost a year and it has wandered the country with me (we just got back from No. Cal. ;) I listen to it almost every night before I go to sleep. The beautifully blended harmonies on this CD are gorgeous and I have fallen completly in love with the countertenor voices. All of the tacks are wonderful but my favorites are (#2)The Skye Boat Song (listen to this while reading Diana Gabaldon!) (#4) Annie Laurie (#6) Danny Boy and (#17) Eriskay Love Lilt. *Whew* that was hard, I can't pick my favorites easily. Buy this CD for it's gorgeous cover and fall in love with the music!

I love this CD, the arrangements for these folk songs are superb. The songs picked are fun and beatiful representatives of English Folk songs. One of my favorite CD's.

Beautiful relaxing harmonica and harp music. You've got to be a harmonica lover(which I Am) to enjoy this CD. I'm a chromatic harmonica student so this is right up my alley. Tommy Reilly displays wonderful technique and phrasing. If you are having trouble getting to sleep throw this baby on and you'll be having 40 winks in no time.

Fair Skye is a gorgeous record meant entirely for healing, meditation, and yoga. It is so relaxing, yet overflowing with introspective music and lyrics. Much of Fair Skye is sung in Lisbeth Scott's native language, Armenian, a luscious, soft language which lends to the quiet passion of this beautiful release.

Love: The word "love" repeated over and over. You would think it would get annoying, but it doesn't. It's a very good intro. 3/5

Looysuh: Absolutely gorgeous. Ethereal, but with quiet strength. Pure, raw, wild beauty. "Beneath a golden sky, come with open heart..." 7/5

Flow: This is mostly instrumental, best for meditation. Very, very pretty. 4/5

Water: Started with fluid piano and later joined by other beautiful instrumentals, this is absolutely transporting. So amazing. 6/5

The Light: Fragile and soaring, and so pretty. "Fear not, children of the light..." 5/5

Home: Instrumental with a Celtic feel, totally and completely amazing. Makes your heart go wild. 5/5

Fair Skye: Also joined by a Celtic sound, Lisbeth's voice finds its place in this as well. Beautiful and moving. "Take me to the sun, and wrap me round the crescent moon, and teach me to be the one." 5/5
