Product Description
You can feel nature alive in the sound of the koto. Let its soothing energy surround and nurture you.
Most kotos have 13 strings, but the recordings for this album were made with a 25-stringed koto, and in its chords, one can hear sounds of refreshing spring breezes. There is a wide range of notes from the upper and lower registers of the instrument, and as such, it may at times remind you of the harp. The combination of notes produced by the 25 strings springing into the air and disappearing as they go is certain to let you forget your stress and tension, and allow you to enjoy a time of relaxation and ease.
To enhance your enjoyment of the music, fragrant incense sticks are included in the spine of the CD jewel case.

Country music had no bigger story in 2004 than the rise of the Muzik Mafia, a renegade group of Music City misfits led by Big & Rich (Big Kenny Alphin and John Rich, the latter formerly of Lonestar) and Gretchen Wilson. Both acts shook up Nashville's lethargic, formulaic format--Wilson with her take-no-bull brand of redneck chic, and Big & Rich with their eclectic, wild-haired blend of honky-tonk, rock, rap, ballad, and western, the shoot-'em-up motif for their traveling circus, i.e., Wild West show. Their debut, Horse of a Different Color, which showcases the pair's unusual high-low vocal harmony, is both funny and irreverent ("Kick My Ass"), not to mention clever. (They sing "bad word" in place of a rhyming epithet.) Boasting "music without prejudice" in their self-mythologizing "Rollin' (The Ballad of Big & Rich)," they reference Charley Pride as "the man in black," and trot out country music's first African American rapper, Cowboy Troy. Yet race turns to "racy" in the duo's hit single "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)," the disc's least interesting cut. The easy laugh and rapped stanzas overshadow the smarter lyrics on the rest of the record, which concerns itself not only with frontier justice, but, surprisingly, with old-time religion (Jesus, tolerance, and in a song about sexual abuse, "Holy Water"). Like many professional funny men, Big & Rich--accomplished songwriters and (now) producers--are dead serious beneath it all. Even if this horse opera of a novelty act doesn't last, look for them to shape much of what gallops out of Nashville for a good, long run. --Alanna Nash

Novelty Not country.......2007-07-05
People hype this band saying how great they are "oh they are outlaws" nothing outlaw about them period. this is not what country music needs and whom ever decided to give these guys a contract should be fired. Now Both of them outside of this concoction they put together are talented songwriters John Rich formally of Lonestar writes for Gretchen Wilson and others. Don't know too much about Kenny. Now, if this is what YOU LIKE then Buy it !!! 1 star is too much
YeeHaw!.......2007-06-06
Big and Rich bring their premiere album to the world, and they bring it with gusto. It has been years since the world of country music has been rocked by anyone this good and willing to break the boundaries of the standards of country music.
From the opening lines of bringing you Country Music Without Prejudice until the final notes waft away, you will be enthralled with this album. This is one of the best albums in my music collection.
Big and Rich.......2007-02-20
It's a really fun cd to listen to...you can tell they had a lot of fun making it, and it's a nice mix between country and rock...
What a fun CD!.......2007-01-09
This is the best CD! If you haven't heard of Big&Rich then this is the CD to get. This is their best CD!!!
Horse of a different colour-Big and Rich.......2007-01-05
Love it! You probably have to be a bit of a country music fan but these guys are awesome. The lyrics are great to listen to. I play it over and over again. Would love to see them in concert if they ever came to little old New Zealand!

On paper, this adaptation of Alice Walker's best-selling novel has all the markings of a hit. It makes Oprah Winfrey's debut as a theater producer, the libretto is by Marsha Norman (Night Mother), and the lyrics and music are by a trio of seasoned pop pros: Allee Willis (the eccentric woman behind "Neutron Dance" and the theme from Friends), Stephen Bray (who worked on such Madonna hits as "True Blue" and "Express Yourself"), and Brenda Russell (the smooth soul-jazz songstress behind "Piano in the Dark"). That team has put together a series of fairly catchy songs that may lack depth but adeptly handle various idioms like gospel ("Mysterious Ways"), R&B ("Push Da Button"), and African rhythms ("African Homeland"). Though the inspirational vibe can get a bit much, softening the edges and preventing genuine artistic complexity, The Color Purple is a great showcase for its cast. As Celie, LaChanze delivers one of her usual sensitive performances, but watch also for Elisabeth Withers-Mendes's Shug--who sings a passionate paean to Celie ("Too Beautiful for Words")--and Renée Elise Goldsberry's Nettie (duetting with LaChange on "African Homeland"). The chance to hear these women strut their stuff almost makes up for the show's weaknesses. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Where's Fantasia when you need her.......2007-07-23
Surprisingly void of any real emotion it is very easy to hear that there are 3 different composer/lyrisists at work here. The music is still very listenable but it's too bad Fantasia wan't in the original cast. If you heard her performance on the Tonys you will know what real emotion is about and what is lacking on this CD
Purple Passion.......2007-07-07
The next best thing to being there. Saw the show twice.... Fantasia is FANTASTIC!!!!!
If you get to NYC... this is a must see.
Just Like Being There!.......2007-06-26
Wonderful! Fabulous! Just like being there! This CD is true to the original production and every time I listen to it, I am back in the theater on Broadway where I heard it for the first time! Sensational score, vocals, and delivery. Can't miss w/ this one!
Still gives me shivers..........2007-06-11
Hearing this soundtrack takes me back to being in the audience every time I hear it. Beautiful, beautiful words and music.
Excellent music from an excellent play.......2007-05-27
We really enjoyed listening to the music after we saw the play.
It was even better then I remembered!

Riding high on the phenomenal success of A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay is in peak form on Coldplay Live 2003. This CD/DVD two-pack was filmed (on Super-16mm film) and recorded in Sydney's Horden Pavilion on July 21 and 22, 2003, during an exhaustive year-long world tour, and the medium-sized arena provides a fitting stage for the London-based rock quartet, not so grand as to overwhelm the music, but large enough to indicate their large and loyal following, which includes enthusiastic fans of either gender. Especially when played in DTS 5.1 surround, this 90-minute concert is richer, thicker, and (of course) louder than Coldplay's studio recordings, lending a wall-of-sound expansiveness to the band's signature sound, which draws from such diverse influences as Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Verve, U2, and their own unique sonic landscape. "Politik" gets the gig off to a rousing start, and other impressive! highlights include "Daylight," "Yellow," the as-yet-unreleased new song "Moses," and the popular hits "In My Place," "Clocks," and "The Scientist." And while the concert visuals are slick and professional (perhaps placing a bit too much emphasis on singer/frontman Chris Martin), this DVD and CD--the latter containing a truncated 70-minute version of the same performance--are best appreciated for their pristine audio quality. Culled from 400 hours of home video, the 40-minute "concert diary" represents a wasted opportunity, enjoyable for hardcore fans but offering no insight into the band or its individual members. Much better, then, to play the concert at healthy high volume, and appreciate Coldplay in the prime of their young career. --Jeff Shannon
Description
The two-disc set includes a 90-minute, nine-camera, super 16 live shoot taken from their July 21 and 22, 2003 performances at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, as well as band commentary, a never before broadcast behind-the-scenes documentary, a special tour diary and the edited audio CD. The DVD and CD will also include two PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED live tracks- "The One I Love" and "Moses."

coldplay live....good background music.......2007-04-10
Coldplay is definitely a solid live band, the problem is, from a production; sound quality standpoint, how do intelligent musicians like this not realize that you need to increase the high end (treble) to maximize the low end (bass)....the way we used to do back in the 80's...the resonance of the bass is greatly reduced without the high end...this is how bands back then used to get that bright, echo-ee, clean live sound...man, i saw eddie money outdoors one october night at heather farms in walnut creek, ca, and his band sounded freaking awesome...bassy, trebly...crystal clear, the sound just cut through the night sky...anyway, when i hear the last two or three minutes of Politik...I'm in absolute heaven...as good as it is, it could have been so much better - along with the rest of the album, with a little bit stronger production / sound quality...This band is way too talented to suffer from sound like this...That being said, this is a solid live album, and you can't go wrong with the cd/dvd combo pak.
Quality Product.......2007-03-08
I received this product on time, and was very pleased with my purchase. This is a very good concert for those that really enjoy Coldplay and have not been fortunate enough to go to a real concert.
COLDPLAY LIVE.......2006-11-06
I went to a live Coldplay show and this DVD was as spectacular as the live show!! I reccomend this to any Coldpay fan or anyone that is a fan of live music. ENJOY!!
im listen to this genre too.......2006-07-29
coldplay is a great band. this album is for real fans.
the dvd is bangin ya'll
the songs are great and have a distinct sound only coldplay can produce.
Quite good concert but sloppy editing.......2006-05-03
It's always fun watching concert DVD's. For one thing, being a musician, I can actually watch not only how they play the songs but see the musicianship of the band without the benefit of redoing takes and overdubbing certain parts. It's still a bit too early for a Coldplay DVD but still it's quite a good one regardless, it's just marred by the MTV-style editing that I'm very much despising at the moment.
The show combines some tracks from first release Parachutes to 2nd release A Rush of Blood to the Head, as well as 3 non-album tracks. There's of course crowd favorites such as Trouble(with a huge end sing along), the Scientist, Clocks, Don't Panic, Yellow with a beautifully sung intro to album tracks such as Amsterdam, Daylight and Shiver. As for the 3 non-album tracks, I love 2: The One I Love, a big rocker with a catchy ending("sing it to me, oh oh") and See You Soon, a beautiful/melancholy acoustic ballad.
The editing problems are first evident in the Politik intro. While the track itself has that pounding beat, so does the editing and it's incredibly jarring. It reminds me of an old guy trying to get in the mindset of a young person by acting and talking fast so the hyperactive camera is a result of a "this is what the kids want" mentality. Like most DVD's, the lead singer Chris Martin tends to get the most attention. A talent yes but other band members get very quick shots before going back to Chris. At one point I almost thought I saw band member to Chris to band member to Chris rather than switching between the 4 of them.
It would've been nicer if they waited till X&Y came out so we can get Square One, Speed of Sound and Fix You live but that's alright. Knowing the record company, we'll get another one soon.

Album Description
The legendary Fishbone is back in full-effect! With a brand-new studio album coming out in the U.S. in April, the revolutionary ska/punk/reggae/metal rockers are blanketing the globe with their monstrous live presence. Going strong for more than 20 years, Fishbone has continually brought the house down at every live performance. This long awaited studio release is already buzzing around in Europe and has fans throughout the U.S. back in "FISHBONE IS RED HOT" mode.
Combining equal parts of deep funk, high-energy punk, and frantic ska, the Los Angeles-based Fishbone were one of the most distinctive and eclectic alternative rock bands of the late '80s and were spawned from the same circle of bands as Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. With their hyperactive, self-conscious diversity, goofy sense of humour, and sharp social commentary, the group have gained a sizeable cult following and have sold out shows across the world. Led by vocalist/saxophonist Angelo Moore, the group formed in 1979 while the band was still in junior high; the original lineup comprised Moore, Chris Dowd, Kendall Jones, Walter Kibby II, and John Norwood Fisher. After performing in local clubs during the early '80s, the group signed with Columbia Records in the mid-'80s, releasing a self-titled EP in 1985. The following year, Fishbone released their first full-length album, In Your Face. From here the band have had a prolific output - with over ten albums since their genesis. They've worked with the likes of Primus and Suicidal Tendencies, showing an eclecticism not seen in the independent scene since Bad Brains. Upbeat and surging with energy, "Still Stuck In Your Throat" crackles with the life of a band possessed. Now reaching over 25 years in the business, Fishbone still sound nothing less than fresh. With an experimental edge to the new recordings, the band have become anything but tired and predictable. And with a sound authentic enough to appeal to fans of The Specials and Sublime (of which, the classic track Date Rape is covered here) but creative and eccentric enough (Party With Saddam?!) to satisfy followers of DC-punk, post-hardcore and jazz, it seems that Fishbone have yet again transcended genre in the name of digression.
Customer Reviews:
Fishbone are back on track!.......2007-07-17
This latest incarnation of Fishbone is amazing, and this is a great 4.5 star album. I was blessed to see the band twice in April this year, and they are still the best live band on the planet! Let the shopping mall record buying public think it's the Peppers.
BEST LIVE BAND IN AMERICAN HISTORY.......2007-05-13
Just when you think that FISHBONE has sailed off into musical oblivion, they hit you in the face with a gem. This albumn represents Fishbone's finest body of work in almost a decade. Production failures prevent this albumn from reaching it's full potential, but the songs cannot be denied by bad mixing. Angelo Moore is at the top of his game as witnessed by an audience that was fortunate enought to catch his performance at the Pearl Room in Mokena IL, on May 11th 2007. The horn section sounded better than it has in a long time and Rocky played ax like a young prodigy with what appeared to be a cast on his picking hand. Norwood (actually seemed sober) kept the bottom heavy and frantic all night. The young guy (dre) is really finding his identity on the keys and bit part voacls. The albumn is good, but if you really want to capture FISHBONE, do yourself a favor and go take in one of America's last authentic treasures. FISHBONE LIVEON STAGE.
Fishbone is BACK!!!.......2007-05-06
If you thought Fishbone was dead, think again! This album is just insane!!! More horns, more craziness than ever! And most of all, the energy is back! This album really captures the band's sound, as if in a live setting. As a long time 'bone fan, I have been waiting a long time for a new studio LP. I figured I'd be disappointed. My expectations were somewhat low. The result: I was just blown away. This album serves as a better follow up to Reality, than Monkey did. go buy it. and go see them live.
Some Songs Shine But The Production Is Inconsistant.......2007-05-05
'Still Stuck In Your Throat'is as musically diverse as any classic Fishbone album however, only a handful of tracks could be considered classic tunes. One gets the feeling that the band were still adjusting and familiarising themselves to the recent personel that is now Fishbone.
It is an album with at least one song for everyone, whether you like the fratic punk metal, soul driven funk or the upbeat happy ska, Fishbone still know how to mix it up like the masters they are. The standout tracks are: 'Behind Closed Doors', 'We Just Lose Our Minds', 'Party With Saddam'and 'Forever Moore' with each and everyone of these pearlers ranking with the best Fishbone songs of the past. Apart from the quality of the songwriting on these tunes, it is the production that makes them shine. A tight and precise clearity within the mix allows all the members to stand out but it is the superb vocals of Angelo Moore and the new supersized horn section that also rates them up with classic tunes from the vast Fishbone back catalogue.
Unfortunately the production of the album is extremely inconsistant and nothing is more obvious to outline this fact when the beautiful rich production of 'Behind Closed Doors' is followed by a limp and mirky 'Premadawnutt'. The latter sounds like a cheap live bootleg demo when it really should have deserved more attention from the engineer. Unlike previous Fishbone albums, the balance of the guitar has been reduced making it one of the weaker Fishbone axe albums. It's a shame because Rocky George is cutting some fine work on the disk it's just the mix makes you have to really work hard to hear his skill. Another downer is the almost after-thought drum sound on about a third of the material on the album. The snare is buried and drummer John Steward is proficent enough behind the kit to also deserve more.
Some of the tracks such as the ragga metal dancehall punk song 'Let Dem Hoes Fight'display a band that hasn't softened or lost potencey in their latter years of playing. Their pursuit of energy and heavy power is still very much present. It's just that the production again takes away from such fine moments.
'Skank 'N Go Nuttz'is an older track revisited, as is 'Premadawnutt' but the energy of past demos or live recordings isn't captured and the guitars lack the bite it did with previous guitarist Spacey.T, mainly because of the lower guitar mix.
Something that Fishbone have never really achieved in the studio through out their 25 year career is their extra explosive live energy that makes them still one of the most exciting and visually stimulating bands to see on stage. This was reinforced after witnessing the band over Easter 2007 and can I tell you the talent and tightness of this current line up just isn't captured on 'Still Still Stuck In Your Throat'. All the songs that sound "alright" on the record came to life on stage. If only they had caught that energy when recording this album!!
Sadly Fishbone's latest album is not the record to bring Fishbone back into the consciousness of a mainstream rock audience like they were back in the late 1980's and early 90's with masterpieces such as 'The Reality Of My Surroundings' however, there is some pure Fishbone magic in and amoungst the songs of 'Still Stuck In Your Throat'.
Q: Does it rate with 'The Reality Of My Surroundings' or 'Give A Monkey A Brain'?
A: No, not really but it would take something absolutely divine to compete with those jems.
Q: Is Fishbone still relevent?
A: Hell yeah! See these brothers live any opportunity you can because the the band hasn't been this tight for more than a decade.
With the positive vibes of the current line up and the way they are gelling together personally and musically, the next release should be spectacular.
Believe it or not...Fishbone's back.......2007-04-26
I just bought the U.S. release of Fishbone's "Still Stuck In Your Throat" a little over two weeks ago. Technically, I've been listening to the album itself for longer than that because I got the import version when it came out (It's exactly the same as the domestic version except for the cover, which I think has been improved). And I still can't believe it - they're back. I mean, they're good like they haven't been since "The Reality of My Surroundings." I've been a fan since "Truth & Soul," and I have bought almost all of their CDs at one point or another, but I've eventually sold back most of the post-"T.R.o.M.S." albums. And for the last several years, each time I buy a new Fishbone disc, I think to myself, "Maybe this one will be a return to form." [...].
So you can say I was skeptical of the hype this album was getting when it was released overseas. I still don't know why it's only just now being released here, but old-school die-hards who were frustrated with "Give a Monkey a Brain and He'll Swear He's the Center of the Universe" and pretty much tuned out after "Chim-Chim's Badass Revenge" are going to be truly shocked by this album. It may not be as good as "T.R.o.M.S.," but it's easily the best thing they've done since. If you're already a die-hard, then you know what to expect. Hard Rock, Punk, Funk, Metal, Ska, Soul, Hip-Hop, Dub-Reggae, Pop, Jazz...you name it, it's here. This is classic Fishbone. And if you've never heard Fishbone before, this is a good place to start. If you like Sublime, No Doubt, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, or bands from way back in the ska-core days (like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones), here's a chance to hear where they all came from. They were all fans and friends of Fishbone, and it's obvious in their music.
[...].[...]. Also, this is one of those albums you have to spend some time with before it gels (kind of like Radiohead's "Kid A," Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland," the Beastie Boys' "Paul's Boutique," or Fishbone's own "T.R.o.M.S."). But once you do, it all falls into place. I've read some critics who even said that parts of the album sounded "groundbreaking," referring in particular to the song "We Just Lose Our Minds," but if you're a long-time fan, you won't be shocked. "W.J.L.O.M." sounds like an Earth Wind & Fire track slowed down, like a record at the wrong speed, until there's a tension underneath the smooth soul (kind of a distant cousin to "Slow Bus Movin'"). For "G.a.M.a.B..." fans, there are metal workouts like "...Nerve Endings," (which sounds like they picked up a trick or two from System of a Down). [...]. And if you've never seen them live, do yourself a favor and go see them as soon as they come to your town. I just caught them on the tour for this album, and this is the best they've been in years. I never thought I'd be able to say this again, but it's a good time to be a Fishbone soldier.

EXcellent Package.......2007-08-02
I usually don't pay this much for CDs but based on how unique an item I thought it was worth it. I have to say once I got it and saw for myself I am more then satisfied. The overall package is excellent and it all fits nicely in the case of really good quality you just don't see stuff like this in the states. You get the original songs and the DVD with the openings, which is great I was able to get the modified songs off the DVD to enjoy on my ipod along with the full versions so I can have a complete BLEACH play list very good deal.
this soundtrack is amazing!!!.......2007-07-25
I love this cd! It contains all the opening and ending themes from the anime, also it has a dvd of all the opening and ending videos plus a few pictures from it as well. My only complaint is that most american dvd players won't be able to play the dvd due to it being Japanese, but otherwise I absoulutly love the music and if you like any of the opening or ending themes to the show then this is the cd for you.
I wish I could give it 10 stars!.......2007-04-30
I bought Bleach the Best for the CD alone. The CD is wonderful!!!! My children and I love the songs and have a great time. In the car or doing dishes at home, this CD has music that gets you pumped to watch the series! The CD songs are the openings and closings for the show and it is great to hear them in their true form. The CD set I purchased from Amazon came with the DVD for Region 2 or for Japanese DVD players, pin-ups of the captians and Renji along with a booklet with the lyrics of the songs in Japanese. As far as I am concerned, it is worth every penny!
Best Anime CD in awhile.......2007-04-19
I love this CD! I watched the first 118 episodes of the show and grew to LOVE the theme songs. I wanted them so bad but Amazon has too high a price for this cd, so I bought it used from one of the sellers. I got the cd in perfect condition for half the listed price for a new one, and just wanted to comment on one of the previous feedbacks about the DVD issues.
First off, this listing is for the CD ONLY, at least for the used copies. There is another listing with the CD/DVD combo here on Amazon. So if you want the DVD as well, make sure to look at both listings carefully or you will pay the same price and only get half of the packege, unless you buy used.
But I do say that the price is worth it to fans of the show who are farther along then the english dubbed episodes, because many of the theme songs are from later episodes. Hope this helps anyone interested in the CD.
Greatest CD ever!.......2007-04-05
I love this CD so much. It's all I listen to right now. I play it in the car on the way to work and then put it into my computer and listen to it alla day at work. The artwork on the cover is very cool too. Well worth the price!

A superb punk album (AND a mediocre reggae record all in one!).......2007-08-05
The punk songs on this album are top-notch. A roaring adrenaline rush that races past at breakneck speed; fast, great and hard, but tuneful as well. What's the best punk song on this album? Why pick? They are all mind-bogglingly perfect.
Take out the couple of tepid reggae numbers that are planted near the end, and you have one of the best albums EVER! 5 stars? With modern technology, you bet! But take out the punk songs, and you have yourself a short 2-star reggae spinner.
If you love rock, you must add this to your collection. If you love reggae, well maybe not so much; but at least you'll know that there are times when rock definitely does not suck.
Rasta-punkian?.......2007-06-27
I thought that their first album would be pure punk and was slightly suprised to hear reggae music interjected between groups of songs. It gives the album a nice contrast but I'm not a big fan of reggae. I get the fact that both types of music have anti-authoritarian ideals, but it may be awhile before I decide to buy any more of their albums. Different Class Harmonica
PMA Mofo's.......2007-04-19
This is the real stuff right here. The Godfathers of hardcore. It was the craziest and fastest album of its time. The songs still influence till this day. They invented the breakdown, listen to Right Brigade... I want to show that to every kung-fu dancing emo jerk to teach them what real hardcore is. Banned in D.C. has the best intro to any song ever... nuff said. Filled with energy and positivity, this is a must have in any collection.
great stuff.......2007-02-05
So i got this cd on friday having only heard the song soul craft and at first i was a little dissapointed because it was nothing like i expected, but i listened to it a few more times and i love it if youre into any punk or hardcore this is a must have
i still have a tape deck in my car.......2006-12-10
and this goes in whenever the cd player runs out of batteries. who knows what punk really is and i'm not looking for an arguement about the subject but the people who say they like "punk" and listen to avril lavinge (spelling?) should have a copy of this record thrown at them from a moving car. this record, i think is their very best, the fastest record i've ever heard, even bad brains themselves couldn't keep the pace. rock for light has a lot of the same songs but i just feel like they're weak in comparison, maybe they were on better speed for this one, who knows...anyway, it's so much more raw and the tones of the guitars, particularly on the solos, have a marvelous presence. just one of the best records ever in any genre, it can be apreciated on the basis of sheer energy alone.

Interlude is great........2007-03-09
I wanted a CD that captured the mood and feelings of the movie. The score sort of recycles itself. Its important to know the title of the song so that you can understand the music. This is really a great Soundtrack.
My favorite part is the interlude, its a little long but how else can you capture the whole movie in just a few minutes!
great musik.......2007-03-08
This cd is the parfait double of the film.
You just have to lesson it for being in the film. Great tunes.
A must have!.......2007-02-21
This is a good cd, although it was not exactly what I was expecting. I was hoping for more lyrics in the songs rather than just the music, as it was sung in the movie. Although I love the music just the same.
Put it on and dream.......2007-01-09
The music is so pleasant. It is something that inspires thought.
Lots of instrumental pieces.......2007-01-05
This is a great CD, but if you are looking for a lot of gospel tunes you might be disappointed, there are many instrumental peices, that are pretty however.

Dated, but packed with '90s Goodness!.......2007-07-30
Listening to this in 2007, it sounds very obviously dated, but still, its a telling remnant of the early 1990s soundscape. The great part about this is that it has two songs that STILL sound amazing - "I Adore Mi Amor" and "Thinkin' Back", while most of the others sound very, very generic.
The early 90s pop machine was a strange thing indeed - much of it sounds terrible today. But this album still stands out because of its high hit quotient (six Billboard Hot 100 singles - a remarkable achievement).
Should you buy this? Yes. Its definitely more memorable than the later days output of say, the Backstreet Boys - but if you're looking for some wholesome 1990s goodness, you can do much worse than this.
Good Oldies Of The 90s.......2006-07-06
C.M.B. was the first concert I ever went to. I was about 19 years old and I took my younger brother with me. They came to Corpus Christi, Texas. The concert started off bad only because some bad woman behind me stole my purse, but I recovered it later in the trashcan. All she stole was my calculater and $30 in cash. Even with all that, I still enjoyed Color Me Badd. It's more like Color Me Good....sounds funny!!! Anyways, Marc Calderon and I locked eyes several times throughout the show. It was an awesome concert. Too badd, it has ended early for them. I hope they come back one day and surprise us all. This band was different and I never considered them a boy band. They were very under-rated. Great memories for me.
COLOR WHO WHAT??!.......2006-04-15
oh baby, this is precious, someone here is actually comparing CMB to The Beatles?!?! Is that why CMB's CD is selling for a whopping 21 cents? I'd love to continue but the urge for uncontrollable laughter is just way too much, ha ha ha ha ha ha..........
Color them badd........2006-03-14
Most likely when someone tosses out the term boy-band, N'Sync or Backstreet Boys come to mind. However, Color Me Badd was doing their thing years before those two groups, and much better. Ok, so New Kids On The Block were around too, but they weren't as badd. These guys have a "Best Of" out also, but the best of that is basically right on this album. Included is their biggest hit "I Wanna Sex You Up". That track was in the movie "New Jack City", and is also here in reprise form. Other hits were "I Adore Mi Amore", "Thinkin' Back", and the extremely catchy "All 4 Love". The bottom line is that these guys were so badd they were good, and where else are you gonna get George Michael, Terence Trent D'Arby, Vanilla Ice, and Kenny G on the same album?
One of My all-time favorites!.......2005-12-21
Way back in 1992 I first listened to Color Me Badd and ever since I have loved their music! What I like about them is their great voices and the cool variety of music mixed in with an urban feel. My favorite singer of the band is Mark Calderon. He has such a wonderful voice and I love the songs that he has a good amount of time singing in. If you love Color Me Badd or love to hear a band that you are not familiar with then I strongly recommend that your purchase this CD today!

At first listen, the low-throated Jaqui Naylor is reminiscent of Madeleine Peyoux; but unlike Peyroux, Naylor sometimes sounds as if she's trying too hard. Not vocally, mind you (the singer remains smoothly assured throughout) but in her choice of arrangements: Some of the selections are sung to other songs' melodies in what Naylor calls "acoustic smashes" (which are described as "orchestrated blends of two different songs, usually a classic rock tune with a jazz standard.") The Color Five is split three ways between traditional covers, the "acoustic smash" covers, and Naylor originals (which have a kind of Lucinda Williams vibe). The standards are all obvious, perhaps too much ("Blue Moon," "Summertime," "Love for Sale") but they're done nicely. It's on the pop-rock selections that the acoustic smashing sometimes goes awry. The Kinks' "Lola," done to Lee Morgan's "Sidewinder," is oddly winning as an organ-driven, conga-accented number, and Rod Stewart's "Hot Legs" is sung to Herbie Hancock's funky "Cantaloupe Island." But U2's "I Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" ("acoustically smashed" to the tune of Miles Davis' "All Blues") unfortunately brings to mind Bill Murray's old lounge-singer act on Saturday Night Live. It's nice to see Naylor take chances, but sometimes you have to find the gold within a song, not import it from somewhere else. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
San Francisco-based vocalist and songwriter Jacqui Naylor launches her fifth CD, The Color Five, with shimmering hints of jazz, pop, and rock while adding touches of gospel, folk, blues, and even a little humor into the mix. With The Color Five, Naylor has created an eclectic yet seamless recording of five original tunes, five impeccably-chosen covers, and five of her trademark "acoustic smashes." Acoustic smashing - a phrase coined by Naylor to describe this unique style - is the singing of a rock tune over a jazz standard or vice versa. For example, Naylor sings the Gershwins' classic "Summertime" over the groove of The Allman Brothers' "Whipping Post" or U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" over Miles Davis' "All Blues."
Customer Reviews:
Jacqui just gets better and better.......2007-05-21
I love this album. My girlfriend and I saw Jacqui at Yoshi's in Oakland late in 2006, just after this album was out. The wonderful thing about the album is that it gets better and better with each hearing. "Easy Ride from Here" is my favorite; some say its optimistic, although I think there is a bit of tongue in cheek cynicism in the song, but still very light hearted. "Hot Legs" and "Lola" are interesting covers, but Jacqui makes them work. There is not a bad cut on the album, and it is, in my opinion, the most approachable album overall that she has ever done. I look forward to her next album with great enthusiasm, and to seeing her perform live as often as I can.
Maddening Eclecticism.......2007-02-27
Whoo, Boy. I come on to this c.d., listen to it once, and am hit with a solid, unshakeable 4-star opinion. On second listen, it's an even more solid 4-stars. I then go to review this, and see that it has received 10 5-star ratings in a row.
Should I keep the score perfect, and suck up for more helpfuls that way? Or should I tell it how I feel, and risk the ire of the Ammyland neggie monsters?
Ah, to hell with it. Just tell it like I feel.
I reviewed Jacqui Naylor's "East West" and gave it a soft 5, basically because that was a 2-disc recording and I could pick out about half of it and turn it into a 5-star album for me. This c.d. strikes me the same way--but it's a one-disc release.
The issue is Ms. Naylor and her band's eclectisism. Does Jacqui Naylor want to be a rock singer, a jazz singer, or a soul singer? She can't seem to decide, and that's an issue. There are very few singers who can pull off such a combination. The one who readily comes to mind is Cassandra Wilson; but Ms. Wilson is truly one-of-a-kind. Most can't do it.
Ms. Naylor has a deep voice--not as deep as Ms. Wilson, Ann Hampton Callaway, Jackie Ryan or Janis Siegel, but deep and alluring enough. I really like some of these covers (e.g., the Kinks' "Lola"; the reflective read of "Blue Moon"; the funkified "Love for Sale", with Bill Withers' "Use Me" riffed over Cole Porter's tome to prostitution; and a sexy "Hot Legs"). I'm not as crazy about some of the others ("Summertime", "Losing My Religion", "You Don't Know What Love Is", or "Here's to Life.").
Actually, what I like best are her originals--and that was true on "East West" as well. "History of Love" is my favorite on this c.d., and merits becoming a standard of its own someday.
I'd like to hear Ms. Naylor and Art Khu, her long-time piano and guitar accompanist, record a c.d. of just originals, with varying versions. They are talented; and if they are going to insist upon being eclectic, that might be the most impressive way to display their talent. RC
Singsongsaying the iambic riddles.......2006-11-10
Hence the this and that of the others was this and that of another so that many sound-as-images freaks your ear while blending and flooding and laughing and crunching and being a beautiful delusion.
A Great Singer With A Captivating Voice That Speaks Of Elegance And Confidence.......2006-10-13
"The Color Five represents a bringing together of the richness of my life and the celebration of my spiritual, musical and emotional communities. While I refer to the number five in many ways on this recording, perhaps the most significant to me are the five who made it happen. Art Khu and Michael Romanowski worked tirelessly to make sure the music tells the whole story with all its color. Jon Evans lent his impeccable taste and wisdom and Josh Jones always laid down the tightest groove. Add the sublime strings of my Buddhist sister Yoon Ki Chai and the five are complete." ~ Jacqui Naylor ~
"Naylor's voice is precise, languorous and very sexy. She has all the elements together...talent, looks and presence...I just don't think anyone can learn to sing like this; it must be a natural, organic thing that comes from the heart, from the soul." ~ Los Angeles Jazz Scene ~
Since I haven't heard any of Ms. Naylor's recordings, I thought I might not be able to give this CD a five-star treatment but after listening to it in its entirety with a few repeats on the tracks that impressed me most such as "You Don't Know What Love Is," "Summertime," "Blue Moon" and her original song "Easy Ride From Here," I came to a conclusion that this is a five-star material. She may not be a big star yet but she's very promising and has the qualities of becoming a great singer with her powerful yet charming and captivating voice, songwriting talent and a terrific style of singing that speaks of elegance and confidence.
After four remarkable CDs to her credit, Jacqui Naylor came up with a new-released "The Color Five," which offers a variety of classic rock, some standards from the Great American Songbook and five of her original songs which she co-wrote with her guitarist/pianist Art Khu. To me, the most notable and impressive from among her original songs are "Easy Ride From Here," "Drive On" and "Sit And Rest A While." This CD is a fusion of jazz, soft rock and pop music with outstanding arrangements. On all the tracks, she is ably backed up by her fabulous band: arranger Art Khu (piano/organ/guitar), Jon Evans (bass), Josh Jones (drums/percussion) and Yoon Ki Chai (violin), Zoe Ellis and Caitlin Cornwell (background vocals).
Ms. Naylor is such a versatile singer and she can render it like an ace whether she's singing Rod Stewart's "Hot Legs" or jazzing it up with Gershwins' gem "Summertime," which is superbly arranged by Jon Evans and Rodgers & Hart's treasure "Blue Moon" or simply mellowing it up smoothly on her take on Raye & DePaul's "You Don't Know What Love Is," a song made popular by Billie Holiday and covered by other artists, one of them is the talented George Benson. I think this is my absolute favorite here. She sings it so mellow and the arrangement by Art Khu is so splendid and typical of the technique invented by the singer called "Acoustic Smashing," where she sings a timeless standard with a rock-sounding arrangement and vice-versa.
"You don't know what love is
Until you've learned the meaning of the blues
Until you've loved a love you've had to lose
You don't know what love is. . .
You don't know how hearts burn
For love that cannot live yet never dies
Until you've faced each dawn with sleepless eyes
You don't know what love is."
Well, what else can I say but I'm a new fan! ;)
I wholeheartedly recommend this CD for your listening pleasure, you will never be disappointed and since a portion of the proceeds from this recording support organizations that promote healing and empowerment for women and children, it's such a worthy cause.
The Color Five is Jacqui's best work to date.......2006-10-08
I love this new CD from Jacqui Naylor. The Color Five is a delightful mix of original tracks and covers of classic songs. The title of the CD is a reference to all of the musicians who assisted Jacqui in making this album. Every track is superb on this disc. The piano playing is beautiful on the track Blue Moon. Jacqui's voice is filled with hope on this song. Jacqui sounds feisty and confident on the track Hot Legs. Art Khu's guitar playing is very energetic on this song. Easy Ride From Here is an optimistic song about a person taking charge of their own life. Summer time is an upbeat engaging rendition of a classic song. This track really gets me moving. Love For Sale and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For are two upbeat engaging songs Jon Evans provides a groovy bass on both tracks. I love the subtle romantic violin playing by Yoon Ki Chai on the track Angel Of Mine. This song is about saying good bye to a loved one. Sit And Rest A While is a simple song about slowing down and enjoying life. I like the violin playing on this track too. I love the beat of the track Drive On. The guitar playing by Khu is slick and cool on this song. Here's To Life is a celebration of life. Jacqui sounds so sensual on this track. The piano playing accompanies her vocals so well on this song. History of Our Love and You Don't Know What Love Is are two soothing sounding tracks. Jacqui Naylor is a talented jazz singer and song writer. The Color Five is her best effort to date.

In the wake of his Sixth Sense triumph, young director M. Night Shyamalan shrewdly marketed himself as a marquee draw, a thriller auteur in the vein of Hitchcock and DePalma. In the process he's also run headlong into one of Hollywood's truest adages: There's no such thing as a sure thing. But while his tale of an isolated hamlet ringed by mysterious, threatening 'others' met with tepid reviews and disappointing box office, it also underscored another filmmaking truism: So-so films can still be blessed with magnificent musical scores. This hauntingly beautiful, yet thoroughly contemporary orchestral soundtrack by James Newton-Howard distinguishes itself at every turn, becoming a clear standout in the ongoing collaboration between the composer and Shyamalan. While similar fusions of minimalist and post-modern musical influences can sometimes seem not much more than hollow intellectual exercises, Newton-Howard inhabits his hypnotic arpeggios and droning rhythms here with an evocative undercurrent of the mysterious and mystical. The composer leans heavily on solo violin to conjure a mock folk tradition of indistinct origins, wedding it to a contemporary classical sense that's as seamless as it is distinguished. -- Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Moody, haunting, beautiful -- brilliant!.......2007-08-02
James Newton Howard's Oscar-winning score for M. Night Shyamalan's remarkable film, The Village, is one of my personal favorites. By turns haunting, thrilling, and absolutely creepy, it completely embodies the spirit of the film.
The common thread woven throughout most of the score is a simple, monophonic melody on the violin, heart-rendingly lifted from the page by the talented Hilary Hahn. The melody strongly evokes Gregorian plainsong, which is very appropriate to the subject matter of Shyamalan's film. It may also remind listeners of twentieth-century composers who have returned to and incorporated those older musical modes (particularly the medieval Phrygian mode) into their own music; I'm thinking of people like Arvo Pärt and Ralph Vaughn Williams (also a film composer). Even more striking, however, is the debt Mr. Howard owes to Philip Glass. Listen to his (Glass's) Violin Concerto or to his own score for the film, The Hours, and see if you don't hear it. The minimalist arpeggiation on the violin is unmistakable.
A couple of the other tracks (e.g., "Those We Don't Speak Of" and "It Is Not Real") will absolutely make your hair stand on end. They still give me goosebumps every time I listen to them. It's some of the most effect "fear" scoring I've ever heard, making particularly good use of the percussion section. Altogether, this is a versatile, remarkable score I can very highly recommend.
tapestry of color.......2007-07-28
Rich, powerful and moving, Howard's score is an interweaving tapestry of a constant haunting undercurrent of a theme with Hilary Hahn's beautiful obligato's soaring above. This soundtrack will take you to the brink of yourself as you can feel your soul being pulled along with the music. An absolute `must have' for any serious music lover. If you doubt its majesty, sit down and listen - it's well worth your time.
Excellent Score -- Very Unique.......2007-02-22
I have long been a film-score aficionado. My favorite composers are Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams -- only the best of the best. I had always known about James Newton Howard and his work, and always respected his unique abilities and talents.
It was with this score that he really caught my attention. The central theme of the film is a love story, and the characters just happen to be caught up in a nightmarish scenario. The score reflects this perfectly; some of the pieces are classically romantic, quiet pieces, while others are thunderous and frightening to reflect the danger and terror portrayed in the film.
James Newton Howard's later works, like "King Kong" (2005) and his co-score with Hans Zimmer on "Batman Begins" (2005) continued to show that he is rightly considered one of Hollywood's A-list composers for big films.
One of the few good things about this wretched film.......2006-11-05
I admit I absolutely hated "The Village". The film started out rather good. The build up in suspense was flawlessly executed but then the second half of the film totally went downhill for me. One of the few things I enjoyed about "The Village" is the film score by James Newton Howard. The combination of the orchestral film score and dark cinematography was perfect. Both complimented each other. Violinist Hilary Hahn was what really gravitated me to the music. A lot of film scores have a terrible tendency to be loud and bombastic (like John Williams and Hans Zimmer) but James Howard Newton's score is subtle and never overwhelming to a person's ears.
The score elevates the film.......2006-08-09
'The Village' was panned pretty harshly in critical circles, but whatever you think of the film, James Newton Howard's score for it is a beautiful piece of work. It lends a haunting, lyrical quality to the film, and it is wonderful to listen to by itself, whether or not you like or have even seen the movie.
While there are a couple pieces in the score that are a little more high-octane in terms of suspense, most of the music is very low-key. Still suspenseful, even spooky at times, but in a very understated and thoughtful way. In some ways similar to Howard's score for 'Signs', which also used repeated rhythms and themes throughout in different ways, the music for 'The Village' differs from the standard "scary movie" score by having pieces which establish a real emotional depth and presence. 'The Village' is a film about love and loss, and much of the music expresses those themes perfectly.
A big part of how the music gets to the depths of emotion is the solo violin performances of Hilary Hahn, present to some extent in almost every piece. From the opening strains of "Noah Visits," the first piece on the CD, her violin speaks the language of the heart and draws the listener into a beautiful world of haunting music, inescapable and compelling. I am amazed by her versatility here. From the fast rhythmic notes of "The Gravel Road" to the high strains of "I Cannot See His Color" to the final, bittersweet tones of "The Vote," Hahn's violin creates a steady thread through the whole score, unifying it and making it unique at the same time. I've listened to several of Hahn's classical performances as well, but I have to say that of what I've heard, her performance for 'The Village' may be her most unique and most compelling yet.
The combination of James Newton Howard's compositions and Hilary Hahn's lush performance have created some beautiful music for 'The Village'. Whether you love the movie or hate it, or even if you're just looking for some rich orchestral music with a beautiful violin performance, this score is well worth owning and listening to many times over.
